Audio / video sync issue in playback

for every recording i've made, when i play back the archive there is noticable lack of sync between the audio and the person's mouth.   the video seems to lag behind by almost a second.  the good news at least is that the delta is constant.
has anyone else experienced this?  it's happening in any scendario i try, even if i'm just recording myself.
is the LCCS dev team aware of this?  since audio and video streams are recorded separately, is there any way for me to programatically 'nudge' the streams into sync?
it's currently a show stopper, it looks really bad when the sync is so obviously absent.

finally getting back to this..
i did as you suggested and recorded a video of myself using the recording and playback examples provided with the SDK (the 2.2 newest version btw).
the de-syncing of audio and video is definitely there.  it seems especially bad for longer recordings.  however, an interesting thing i discovered in playback:
- sometimes, if i drag the playhead somewhere in the recording, pause, and then hit play, video and audio fall into sync.
- if i start playback from the beginning of the recording, audio/video is always out of sync.
i understand that the video and audio streams are recorded separately and thus played back separately.  my guess is that when those streams are retrieved and playback begins, one starts before/after the other because they're not retrieved at exactly the same time.  it seems some extra work is required to ensure that their playback commences at exactly the same timestamp within each stream.
i can provide my recordings as an example if required.
this is a total showstopper for me.  it renders the entire recording service useless if the playback can't have sync between audio and video.  i would be happy to help with testing this more.  can someone from the LCCS team comment on this issue?
thanks

  • Why Wont Apple Fix AUDIO / VIDEO Sync Issues

This has been a problem for awhile. Thank god there is a application fix but im receiving an iTouch very soon and I'm not sure if the same problem is going to be on that to..
It might be how Quicktime reads .MP4 and .M4V Files but i can play the videos on VLC and Zune Software fine..
I see other people posting this exact same problems. I see no answers... Apple Knows this is an issue. Why wont they fix it.
From what im hearing it is the audio that is going out of sync from the video.
    Now my Final Question is
"Is this just a Software issue for the computers or is it also a Software issue (Assuming that quicktime is the software on these devices) for the iTouch / iPhone ?

well i got my itouch today and it seems that the audio and video sync issues are only on the computer distributions of quicktime and not the hand held device versions

  • Audio / Video Syncing Issues

    Hello Everyone,
I own a 2011 MacBook Pro with a 250GB SSD and 8GB upgraded Ram. I'm currently using iMovie to create an hour long movie with images / audio / and voiceover in certain sections.
I have been working on this for quite some time and would like to be able to export it the same way I'm able to view it inside the Application. However, when I export the movie the audio / video / voiceover is off and it does not match with what I have worked on inside the project.
I have also tried breaking down the movie and exporting it in sections but the audio is still not syncing correctly on the export.
Please can someone help me out and help me explore my options.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Mauricio

Sorry for the confusion. To clarify:
The Video and Audio are OOS. Let's say that at the beginning of the Clip, the difference is ~ 12 frames off. Is it still that ~ 12 frames off at the end, or is it now ~40 frames OOS?
Though the best is to Capture with no OOS issues, the former is fairly easy to fix. The latter takes more work.
Also, whether the OOS is constant, or dynamic, might lead to figuring out where this issue is being introduced.
    Good luck,

  • Audio/Video sync issues after exporting

    Two quick issues:
    1. I've recently exported a project from FCE4 to quicktime and am finding that the audio is slightly out of sync with the video everytime.
Is there an ideal format or setting I need to export at to avoid this?
    2. Also, I've edited two projects using the same clips and keep finding that the second one I make seems to make the video very narrow when I export it. Is there a setting I need to use to avoid this, or does the problem lay in the setup?
    Cheers!
    John

From what I see in your info, the clips don't match the Sequeunce.
Furthermore, the clips are not FCE freindly. Probably required rendering?
I'd suggest using Streamclip to convert the H.264 clips to the exact specs of one of the FCE>Easy Setups, audio and video properties, then start over.
    http://www.squared5.com/
BTW: Whatever you convert the clips to must match the Easy Setup, so that you work with Clips and Sequence being the same. The best way to acheive this is to start a NEW Project, set the Easy Setup first, then bring in the the matching clips.
Using Item Properties in Browser>Seqeunce/Clip is one way to confirm matching specs for both.

  • Final Cut Audio/Video sync issues

Yes, I realize this has been discussed before, but for the life of me I cannot find the answer. So here we go.
    - FC version is 7.0.2
    - OSX is 10.6.3
    - Processor 2.8 Ghz Intel Core Duo 2
    - Memory 4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
I have used FC before and well acquainted. Recently I took a brush up course and used material provided in a book DVD. Had no issues while practice editing with this material.
Now have material saved I want to edit with. All video is saved on an external and in MOV format. No worries getting in imported in FC. However, every video I use starts to audio slide and by the time it reaches around halfway, full blown out of sync. Not by much, but it's definitely there.
I even took these videos and re-saved them in MOV format and same thing. With all this RAM there should be no need to shut anything down, but I did so. Same thing.
The interesting part is when using the test videos that were supplied on DVD and were imported into the MAC, no worries. Now I AM bringing those videos over from a saved file on the MAC itself, but that should make no difference. When bringing over the external movies into FC, they should react without a hitch.
Here's the fun part. ALL of these videos play perfectly on IMovie. All of them. So this makes me think there's something in the FC settings at work here. Then again, why did it not fault before?
One more thing. I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard and have seen a few glitchy items here and there. But this is the oddest.
Would really appreciate thoughts and suggestions. Frustration is setting in. And thanks

The first thing I'd check is to make sure the audio clip's settings and the FCP Sequence settings match. For example, if you use AIFF 32khz, 12 bit audio in an FCP Sequence set at AIFF 48khz, 16 bit, the audio WILL be out of sync as you describe.

  • Audio/video sync issues at chapter points, on certain DVD players

I created a DVD using DVD Studio Pro 4, had it replicated at a manufacturing facility, and have now sent out copies to approximately 600 people. About a dozen or so of my customers have experienced issues where at the chapter points for the film (a 60-minute documentary) the audio and video go out of sync. Unfortunately I can't describe this issue any more accurately than that because I haven't seen the problem. The disc plays fine on the vast majority of players. The people that are experiencing the problem have DVD players like the Sony DVP-NC655P and the Samsung DVD-R120.
Does anyone have any clue at all as to what the issue could be?
    Thanks very much.

Is your audio PCM or AC3? If the audio is going out of sync on onlyl a handful of set-top players, the build is probably OK, and your media is probably starting out in sync. I suspect that your bit rate may be be too high, and the audio is chiking the buffer on the player, making the audio go out of sync. What format of audio is on the disc, and what is combined average/maximum bit rate?
    Hope this helps -

  • Audio / video sync issues

We are using JMF with FOBS4JMF - on some computers our player has an issue with the audio and video getting out of sync with FLV files - any ideas? Is it related to frame rate?
Also, if we capture to a MP4 - the video plays but we do not get any audio - but the same file played in QT plays just fine. Any ideas?

JMF doesn't support MP4 or FLV videos, the support for those are coming from FOBS4JMF, which is a 3rd party add-on to JMF. It's the policy of these Sun forums that 3rd party add-ons and libraries are not supported here.
As such, you'll need to get FOBS4JMF support from the FOBS people.

  • Audio/Video Syncing Issues on Capture

    Hey guys,
I've imported several tapes from my Sony V1u HDV camera, and I've been having the same issue.  I am capturing the video over Firewire, and every tape I capture, the resulting MPEG file in Premiere Pro is not in sync.  The video and audio are there, but they are not lined up at all.  Any ideas as to why I'm having this issue?  Thanks!

  • Capture Now Limits- Audio Video Sync Issues?

In a creative cow podcast the author mentions that if you capture in FCP for more than 30 minutes, your audio and video can go out of sync, and recommends limiting capture now to 10 minutes.
I was wondering what the communities thoughts or experiences were on this.....
    Thanks!

I'm having similar problems although I never used to. But note:
I'm having sync drift problems with material shot with and capture from Sony DV Cam devices. Different clips have different degrees of drift from 1 to 12 frames.
For now, I think I shall resort to a 10min log and batch capture approach.

  • Audio video sync issues with iMovie 11

Hi: I've been using Roxio Video Capture software to convert VHS tapes to digital (quiktime) movies in preparation for saving them on DVDs. Most of my clips seem to have synchronization issues and I am at a loss as to how to fix them. Most of the historical blogs and forums get either very technical or simply do not work for me. I am far from being expert at using iMovie or performing editing tasks so I could use specific expert help with this problem. So far I have learned how to detach the audio, but am at a loss as to what to do with it once I detach it

    Hi socalhkc!
I have a couple of articles that might be able to help you adjust the audio in your iMovie project:
iMovie '11: Set the beginning and end of a sound or music clip
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2258
iMovie '11: Extend a video clip’s audio over the next clip

  • Regular problem with video playback & audio video sync

So, I am regularly having two problems (I wonder whether they are connected) that I cannot solve and am hoping someone can tell me if I am out of luck or if I need to do something or add something.
For example, because it happened again today. These are details about the file stuff:
    Type:AVI
    Bit Rate:133kbps
    Dimensions:624x352
    Audio format: LameMP3
    Frame rate: 23 frames/second
    Data Rate: 1131 kbps
    Video Sample Size: 12 bit
    Video Compression: XVID
First Problem: If I play the file - I use Media Player Classic - it plays fine. Open it in Windows Media Player and it plays fine. Try to edit it in Premiere and the file loaded into Premiere is filled with what I believe are called audio video sync problems, so I have to constantly unlink audio and video and adjust it. It loads and does not need to conform.
I have the same problem on my laptop(Windows XP Home) and desktop (XP Pro), the desktop with twice the RAM. I have the K-lite Mega codec pack installed. I would call myself a beginner when it comes to video editing. I understand generally what codecs are but I am not capable to making any tweaks to the K-lite Mega codec pack (if I should have) so it is setup as installed.
Second Problem: The video in the playback box never plays back normally. I have tried adjusting the playback settings: have changed the aspect ratio between the software and harware option and adjusted between the three desktop display options. Occasionally it is "ok" but most of the time not and never just normal.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thank you.

I tried this already and then we had a blackout so going to try again and hope it goes through before a second one...lol
    Hello:
Thank you Robert J. Johnston, the_wine_snob, Paul_LS and SteveGrisetti for your help so far.
So this is where I am at now:
Files all seem to be of the same type, so I will just say "the file" for the one I am working with right now.
Loaded file into VirtualDub.  I like that program.  Well done, whoever made it.  Did some basic cutting of unwanted stuff.  Saved as AVI.  Saved both a Direct Stream Copy and a Full Processing Copy.
Opened the FP copy in Premiere Elements and it plays without audio sync problems that I can see. Have edited it some so far and still no problems.
Before I do any more editing work, I decided to save it (SHARE) in different formats to see what happens.
Goal: Looking for no audio sync problems.  Best quality I can get with a 1GB file size limit.
Saved as DV-AVI:  plays fine.  no audio sync probelms.  love the video quality.  2.95GB, so too big
Saved as Flash:  Do not see any audio sync problems.  Do NOT like the quality (flips back and forth between clear and all pixely (is that a word).  32 MG
Saved as Mpeg: Media Player won't play it (thought Media Player with KL Mega Codec played everything?) (It loads it but doesn't play?); Quicktime won't play it.  Windows Media Player just did.  Do not see any audio sync problems.  Like the video quality. 631 MB.
Saved as Windows Media: Do not "think" there are any audio sync problems; if there are, they are very subtle.  Not crazy about video quality.  Better than flash video option though still flickers between two types of qaulity (if that makes sense) . 52MB
Any suggestions as to what I should do at this point to meet my stated goal.  I assume [share]ing is what I should do?  Is there any exporting or any other options I do not know about.  Without your help I figure I will Share to MPEG?  Not sure why Media Player won't play it and Windows Media Player will?
Any thoughts on the best choice for me?  Thanks for your help.

  • TIMECODES are important for audio and video sync issues

Hello, just wanted to pass on what I learned so that others can avoid the trouble that I've had to go through. Perhaps this may help someone who is stuck on the launch pad. :)
BOTTOM LINE: Info for the beginner. Audio and video not in sync in Premiere Pro CS3 V3.2.0
PROBLEM: Capture works great it seems. When I go to the folder that contains the captured file and view in Windows Media Player audio and video are in sync. BUT when viewing the video asset in the source and program monitors, the audio and video are not in sync.
    SOLUTION:
Before capturing a tape make certain the following is checked:
    (1) Edit->Preferences->Capture->Use device control timecode
    (2) Edit->Preferences->Device Control->Options->Timecode Format
    (3) Project->Project Settings->General->Video->Display format
As for the devices timecode choose something other than Auto Detect. Then match the project timecode with what was chosen during capture. The projects display format could of course be set to frames.
I searched everywhere for audio and video sync issues in google, adobe forums, F1 help, and hv20.com and everyone was talking about:
    (1) Presets: 1080p30 vs. 1080i30 (60i).
    (2) brakes in the tape where timecode for the audio and video get misaligned during capture.
But choosing the correct hardware settings and timecodes to solve audio and video sync issues never popped up.
    MY HARDWARE: Canon HV30, HDV

    >Audio and video not in sync in Premiere Pro CS3 V3.2.0
Must be an HDV only issue because my synch is always perfect.

  • Audio/Video sync drift in Premiere CS5.5, but not in CS6

I have a QuickTime file with the following specs:
    Video: H.264, 854x480, 29.99fps
    Audio: AAC, 44100 Hz
When I open the file in QT player, or in Adobe Premiere CS6, there is no issue with Audio/Video sync.
However, when I import the file in Premiere CS 5.5, there is a drift in the Audio/Video sync.
Is there something I can do in Premiere CS 5.5 to avoid or fix the drift?
    Thanks.

I had a similar problem and these are the steps I took to fix it.
First I deleted the files in "Adobe Premiere Pro Preview Files" for the project in question. I reopened Premiere and it appeared that deleting those files didn't seem to do anything as everything in the project looked the same.
I then disconnected the drive with the footage on it and opened Premiere. When it asked where the footage was, I told it to Offline All. I then went into Preferences > Media and hit Clean for the Media Cache Database. This had to be done because it only cleans the cache for files that are no longer connected with the project (as noted above). I closed and reopened the project, selected everything in the Project window, right clicked and chose Relink Media. I located one file and it relinked the rest automatically.
Now, finally, Premiere is re-conforming all the audio. Hooray!

  • Audio Video synchronization issues

    Hi,
I have a video application that I am building - and
previously I used FMS and TCP connections for video. Now expecting
the latency to be much lesser with UDP, I implemented UDP in my
application and stratus as the RTMFP capable server. I used the
sample video phone application's tutorial do a simple sendStream
    and receiveStream for video.
However, unlike the hosted sample application itself, my
audio and video are completely out of synchronization - about 4
secs!! I tried to look at the sample code to see if there were any
special settings that were made. I could not find any.
    My questions:
    1. Did Adobe make any special tweaks in their hosted sample
application? If so, what are they?
    2. Are there any known synchronization issues with using
    RTMFP connections for video?
    3. Does anyone else also face audio video synchronization
    issues?
    4. If none of the above is true, what do you think my
mistakes are? Please let me know if I need to add more information
    to answer this question.
    Thanks in advance.
    Rohan

with RTMFP, video and audio can go out of sync if the data
rate of your stream exceeds your network capacity. video is
currently sent with 100% reliability, so once it's queued for
transmission, it's going to be sent (eventually). video is lower
priority than audio, though, so your audio data gets first dibs on
your network capacity. if the video stream's data rate is higher
than what fits in your network (after audio), the video data will
back up until its send buffer is filled, and new camera frames will
stop getting captured. in the steady state, this can look like a
multi-second offset between the video and audio.
try turning your video rate/quality down so that it fits in
your network capacity. video and audio should stay in sync.
with RTMP, there's one network transmission buffer (TCP's)
for all of the parts of your stream (audio & video). when you
have insufficient network bandwidth, the TCP buffer will eventually
fill up and video frames will stop being captured to compensate. so
while audio and video might remain in sync, the total end-to-end
latency will go up. when using RTMFP, the audio and video have
independent transmission buffers, so in cases of insufficient
network resources, the higher-priority audio should remain more
timely but video may fall behind.

  • 'Source play' and 'audio-video sync' problems with PE8 on fast WIN7 64 bit computer

I am transferring Hi8 videos, about 2 hours long, to my WIN7 64 bit computer with PE8.  [Dell Mobile Precision M4400 Computer Workstation (Intel Core 2 Duo T9900 500GB/4GB); NVIDIA Quadro FX 770M, 512MB] I seem to have several problems:
First, after importing the file (.avi), I get a message about ‘dropped frames.’
Secondly, when I try to play the video in the source monitor, the audio plays but the video doesn’t; it only shows the first frame [this is after waiting until the video is ?recognized? ]   I can use the shift-arrow key and see that the video is there.
Thirdly, I can play the .avi file in other players, e.g., avidemux or PE pro CS5 on another computer.  There, I see that the audio and video are not in sync; the audio can be up to 300 ms ahead of the video (as determined using avidemux).
    Questions:
    1.  Why doesn’t the source monitor play the video? Is this a problem with PE8 (latest update as of 3 March 2011) on aWIN7 64 bit computer (intel duo core. 3 GHz).
    2. Is the audio-video sync problem the result of the ‘dropped frames?’ How can PE8 correct this? Avoid this? Or, is it coincidence?

"I think you're telling me you're using a backwards compatible Digital8  camcorder to capture your video as DV-AVIs. Is that right?" YES
"Are you using  Premiere Elements to do this capturing?" YES, AS ABOVE PE8
"Go to the File menu and select Properties. It should show a standard DV codec being used for your video and audio."
WMP v12 is dumb. Under properties, media, it says 'video.'  However, avidemux gave me the information state above: video -- Codec 4CC: dvsd, frame rate: 29.971 fps; audio -- codec: PCM, channels: Stereo, frequency: 48 kHz.
    So, back to the Questions:
