Audio/video sync with h.264 - players affected

Hi there,
I've been trying to do a sound mix in Audition CC and have been sent a video reference (h.264/AAC). I noticed the audio going out of sync with the video and so checked the file in a few players (PotPlayer, VLC, Quicktime). I found video was also lagging behind the audio with all these players so I was about to contact the person who sent me the clip but decided to do one more test. Weirdly, in Window Media Player the video stays in sync all the way through!
I understand this means that my problem's more to do with my system than Audition, but I find this problem occurs sometimes in Premiere with other source clips too and instead of tweaking it to work temporarily as usual I really want to get to the bottom of it.
I tried using AME to encode to different codecs and have tried uncompressed video and audio. This makes no difference, and I imagine that's because all my Adobe software is using a dodgy codec to read the video, could this be the case?
Has anyone else had an issue like this? And why is Windows Media Player suddenly the only thing immune to this problem?
Here's the mediainfo for the clip in question, thanks for any help!

Hi,
When encoding live in H264 with the FP 11  then playing it live on another client (through FMS r) the video sometimes (1/3 of times) has major skips or jerks. It's almost as if the video goes back to some older keyframes and then returns to live. Same experience with non-h264 produces smooth video.
If the server (FMS ) records the video, the replay looks smooth, which is strange because I would have assumed the FP was not encoding well with H264.
Has anyone had this issue? please reply
Thank you.

  • 'Source play' and 'audio-video sync' problems with PE8 on fast WIN7 64 bit computer

I am transferring Hi8 videos, about 2 hours long, to my WIN7 64 bit computer with PE8.  [Dell Mobile Precision M4400 Computer Workstation (Intel Core 2 Duo T9900 500GB/4GB); NVIDIA Quadro FX 770M, 512MB] I seem to have several problems:
First, after importing the file (.avi), I get a message about ‘dropped frames.’
Secondly, when I try to play the video in the source monitor, the audio plays but the video doesn’t; it only shows the first frame [this is after waiting until the video is ?recognized? ]   I can use the shift-arrow key and see that the video is there.
Thirdly, I can play the .avi file in other players, e.g., avidemux or PE pro CS5 on another computer.  There, I see that the audio and video are not in sync; the audio can be up to 300 ms ahead of the video (as determined using avidemux).
    Questions:
    1.  Why doesn’t the source monitor play the video? Is this a problem with PE8 (latest update as of 3 March 2011) on aWIN7 64 bit computer (intel duo core. 3 GHz).
    2. Is the audio-video sync problem the result of the ‘dropped frames?’ How can PE8 correct this? Avoid this? Or, is it coincidence?

"I think you're telling me you're using a backwards compatible Digital8  camcorder to capture your video as DV-AVIs. Is that right?" YES
"Are you using  Premiere Elements to do this capturing?" YES, AS ABOVE PE8
"Go to the File menu and select Properties. It should show a standard DV codec being used for your video and audio."
WMP v12 is dumb. Under properties, media, it says 'video.'  However, avidemux gave me the information state above: video -- Codec 4CC: dvsd, frame rate: 29.971 fps; audio -- codec: PCM, channels: Stereo, frequency: 48 kHz.
    So, back to the Questions:

  • Regular problem with video playback & audio video sync

So, I am regularly having two problems (I wonder whether they are connected) that I cannot solve and am hoping someone can tell me if I am out of luck or if I need to do something or add something.
For example, because it happened again today. These are details about the file stuff:
    Type:AVI
    Bit Rate:133kbps
    Dimensions:624x352
    Audio format: LameMP3
    Frame rate: 23 frames/second
    Data Rate: 1131 kbps
    Video Sample Size: 12 bit
    Video Compression: XVID
First Problem: If I play the file - I use Media Player Classic - it plays fine. Open it in Windows Media Player and it plays fine. Try to edit it in Premiere and the file loaded into Premiere is filled with what I believe are called audio video sync problems, so I have to constantly unlink audio and video and adjust it. It loads and does not need to conform.
I have the same problem on my laptop(Windows XP Home) and desktop (XP Pro), the desktop with twice the RAM. I have the K-lite Mega codec pack installed. I would call myself a beginner when it comes to video editing. I understand generally what codecs are but I am not capable to making any tweaks to the K-lite Mega codec pack (if I should have) so it is setup as installed.
Second Problem: The video in the playback box never plays back normally. I have tried adjusting the playback settings: have changed the aspect ratio between the software and harware option and adjusted between the three desktop display options. Occasionally it is "ok" but most of the time not and never just normal.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thank you.

I tried this already and then we had a blackout so going to try again and hope it goes through before a second one...lol
    Hello:
Thank you Robert J. Johnston, the_wine_snob, Paul_LS and SteveGrisetti for your help so far.
So this is where I am at now:
Files all seem to be of the same type, so I will just say "the file" for the one I am working with right now.
Loaded file into VirtualDub.  I like that program.  Well done, whoever made it.  Did some basic cutting of unwanted stuff.  Saved as AVI.  Saved both a Direct Stream Copy and a Full Processing Copy.
Opened the FP copy in Premiere Elements and it plays without audio sync problems that I can see. Have edited it some so far and still no problems.
Before I do any more editing work, I decided to save it (SHARE) in different formats to see what happens.
Goal: Looking for no audio sync problems.  Best quality I can get with a 1GB file size limit.
Saved as DV-AVI:  plays fine.  no audio sync probelms.  love the video quality.  2.95GB, so too big
Saved as Flash:  Do not see any audio sync problems.  Do NOT like the quality (flips back and forth between clear and all pixely (is that a word).  32 MG
Saved as Mpeg: Media Player won't play it (thought Media Player with KL Mega Codec played everything?) (It loads it but doesn't play?); Quicktime won't play it.  Windows Media Player just did.  Do not see any audio sync problems.  Like the video quality. 631 MB.
Saved as Windows Media: Do not "think" there are any audio sync problems; if there are, they are very subtle.  Not crazy about video quality.  Better than flash video option though still flickers between two types of qaulity (if that makes sense) . 52MB
Any suggestions as to what I should do at this point to meet my stated goal.  I assume [share]ing is what I should do?  Is there any exporting or any other options I do not know about.  Without your help I figure I will Share to MPEG?  Not sure why Media Player won't play it and Windows Media Player will?
Any thoughts on the best choice for me?  Thanks for your help.

  • Monitoring audio in sync with video when capturing in FCP studio

Is there a way I can monitor audio in sync with video when capturing in FCP Studio? I know you can plug headphones into your tape deck but that sound is not in sync with the video in the capture window due to time delay. I tried plugging the headphones into my Powerbook but could not get any audio coming through these, nor audio through the Mac's inbuilt speakers.

The preview checkbox is ticked and the audio monitor indicates that sound is being picked up (the levels rise and fall) but I still can't hear anything! The audio/video sync on the external monitor is ok, but because there is a time delay between that and the video capture window, I can't use that as a reliable monitor for sound sync. If I could resolve the video sync problem there, then I could monitor the sound through the external monitor.

  • Audio/Video sync drift in Premiere CS5.5, but not in CS6

I have a QuickTime file with the following specs:
    Video: H.264, 854x480, 29.99fps
    Audio: AAC, 44100 Hz
When I open the file in QT player, or in Adobe Premiere CS6, there is no issue with Audio/Video sync.
However, when I import the file in Premiere CS 5.5, there is a drift in the Audio/Video sync.
Is there something I can do in Premiere CS 5.5 to avoid or fix the drift?
    Thanks.

I had a similar problem and these are the steps I took to fix it.
First I deleted the files in "Adobe Premiere Pro Preview Files" for the project in question. I reopened Premiere and it appeared that deleting those files didn't seem to do anything as everything in the project looked the same.
I then disconnected the drive with the footage on it and opened Premiere. When it asked where the footage was, I told it to Offline All. I then went into Preferences > Media and hit Clean for the Media Cache Database. This had to be done because it only cleans the cache for files that are no longer connected with the project (as noted above). I closed and reopened the project, selected everything in the Project window, right clicked and chose Relink Media. I located one file and it relinked the rest automatically.
Now, finally, Premiere is re-conforming all the audio. Hooray!

  • Audio/Video sync program for Power PC G5

Greetings to ALL,  I am attempting to determine if there is a audio/video sync program for my PPC G5 running 10.5.8?
Suggestions would be great because if I cannot locate a program I am at the end of the road for this little project.
Working with a Nikon D7000 and RODE Pro Mic and looking to get the Tascam DR 100MkII recorder if I can figure out how to get things to jell.
    Thank You, pc

Even if syncing directly is not practical, iTunes can manage audio files, has many organization features for audio, such as playlists and folders of playlist, and tags that can be applied to multiple audio and video files are supported by it.   MPEG4Streamclip offfers a variety of conversion tools that are available for PowerPC for video and will bring videos to work with iTunes.  H.264 MPEG4s are the best for iTunes.
And http://www.lemkesoft.com/ GraphicConverter lets you browse Finder folders, which you can tag by month, and year, and even time, in a hierarchy that makes sure you don't do any duplication.   Since the Nikon D7000 does write to standard SD cards, you just need a Mac OS X 10.5 supporting SD card reader.  Many SansDisk readers supports it.

  • Reporting an audio/video issue with a TV show from a Season Pass? How?

I would like to report some audio/video issues with the latest The Unit and The Seeker episodes but I can't find them in my Purchase History??? I own a Season Pass for both. Any idea how to do it? I'm lost. Thanks!

Is this the lack of audio on "Shadow Riders"? I've just got to that episode, and I tried to report the problem, but the whole series of hoops you have to jump through seems to have changed. Rather than get to the page where you add comments for the problems, it merely sends you to an internet link on apple that has no bearing on the problem.
If you open your account information (store > View my account) you can click your purchase history there. The theory is that you find your program, click the arrow next to it, then click "report a problem" and it should allow you to enter a comment, or the problem... Anyone else having this troubvle?

  • Audio not sync with Video

I am using a Sony DVMC-DA1 to convert VHS tapes into Final Cut Express. After I finish capturing is says,
"The audio sample rate of one or more of your captured media files does not match the sample rate on your source tape. This may cause the video and audio of these media files to be out of sync. Make sure the audio sample rate of your capture preset matches the sample rate of your tape."
I have looked in books and feel that I have tried everything. The audio is still not in sync with the video. I am out of ideas. Does anyone know how to fix this?

What is the audio settings of your sequence? It has to match that of the video you're importing
I'm not familiar with the unit you're using to import but basically, if your video is 16 Bit 48K then your sequence, your timeline, as to be the same, say NTSC (or PAL) DV. If the video is being captured at 12 Bit, your sequence should be NTSC (or PAL) 32K.
Having mismatched audio rates in your timeline will usually lead to out of sync audio

  • How to shift audio to sync with video

    Friends,
I have a clip (actually a collection of clips) that I exported from Final Cut Pro Express and imported into FCPX for editing.  I recognize that it's cumbersome but I prefer to edit in FCPX, even though I had to string together a bunch of separate clips for the export, thereby creating a long single clip.
The problem is that the audio is slightly out of sync with the video.  Is there an easy way to detach the audio and shift it about ten frames to the left?  If I do that, will I be able to use a blade to chop the long clip into smaller clips for editing?
    Thanks!
    Steve

Detach audio is something you do in the Timeline to detach the audio so it's completelky separate from the video and can be movede to wherever you want. The only way to reattach the video is to make it a compound clip. When you open in Timeline, the audio, even is shifted, remains attached to the video and still appears as a single clip in the Timeline. You can't detach audio for a clip in the browser.

  • Audio not syncing with Video when live streaming.

Hello, i was wondering if i could get a possible fix for a problem that's been keeping my streaming back. I am using a Dazzle capture card to stream video games, and Flash Media Live Encoder 3.2 to send out the feed. My video source is of course the capture card and i use a MAC program called "Audio Midi Setup" to create an aggregate device of both the dazzle audio and my microphone as an audio source for FMLE. This way, the viewers could hear both my voice and the game audio.
Everything works really well, except for one problem. The audio always occurs 6 seconds before the actions in the game that correspond to it, and my voice will mention something first before it happens, again off by 6 seconds. I've played around with a couple of the settings for audio and video, but no matter what, it's always a 6 second delay. I've had this problem for a while and am unsure if the problem stems to FMLE at this point, but would appreciate any possible help. Thank you

This is common for separately recorded audio.  Sync the start of both clips. then go to the end and adjust the speed of the audio clip until it get's back in sync at the end.  It should then be in sync throughout.  You'll have to experiment to get just the right adjustment.  My device's clips had to be adjusted to 100.4% speed to keep sync.

  • Audio loses sync with video on HD footage (CS5.5). 'MPEG decode error'

    HI All,
I'm trying to cut this vox pops video together but the audio seems to lose sync. i noticed that there was a red circle in the bottom right of the screen with a cross in the centre. After clicking on it, i was greeted with this message...
I have a fairly powerfull machine so I'm unsure as to what the problem is. Any suggestions as it's making this task virtually impossible!!!
    machine specs...
    Please, any help appreciated!!!

    Had this occasionally myself.
For me it was drop-out on the tape (at the very start of some sections luckily), even though CS5.5 did not register any drops when capturing.
If you're not using tape then you've got a card error. Checkout the video at or about Frame 32106. Check out the source material. Although Windows 7 Media Player is likely to show no errors and with your audio in sync - very mis-leading - a false positive.
Fix for me was to simply re-sync audio/video manually but upstream of the error. If not, you will likely find you will also get export errors when trying to export via AME.

  • Audio not synced with video on movie downloads

The audio is not synced with video on movie downloads from the ITunes store.  I have downloaded many movies in the past from the same PC with no problem.

    Hi Jimmyjoefl,
I understand that you are having playback issues with videos you have purchased from the iTunes Store. After doing some research, I found the following resource that describes your exact symptoms:
Troubleshooting iTunes for Windows Vista or Windows 7 video playback performance issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1718
Here are some things to check if, when viewing a movie in iTunes for Windows Vista or Windows 7, you notice that a video appears distorted, intermittently pauses, or has audio that is out of sync with the image on-screen.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.
