Audio & Video synchronization in PE4

Audio is late. What steps to do to synchronize it with the video.
Thanks

Benjamin,
As Steve points out, this is usually do he AV file. DV-AVI Type I's exhibit out of sync issues often. Xvid & DivX can also, though usually one only get Audio, or Video. Conversion to DV-AVI Type II usually eliminates most sync issues.
Now, it is possible that you can "fix" your sync problem, if it's a constant offset, and doesn't drift over time.
Before you do a lot of cutting of your Clip, Zoom in on your Timeline. Find something that is pretty obvious in your Video, like a CU of someone talking, a Clapper/Slate, an explosion, etc. Turn off Snap (remember to turn it back on, when done). Alt-click on your Audio to Select only it, and not the Video. Now, slide the Audio along to match up with that point in the Video. You may have to experiment a bit, depending on what you have to sync to. I'd also monitor the Audio with a good set of headphones, and expand both the Timeline and the Program Monitor to as large as you can for this.
Once you have the Audio in sync to your visual spot, test the entire Clip, to make sure that the sync stays, and does not drift. If you've got it, then turn Snap back on, and edit. You might want to make a notation of the offset that is required, as it is likely that all other Clips will require the same, or nearly, amount of offset. As Audio sync problems seem to have the Audio late, you might want to add a couple of seconds of Black Video in front of the Clip, to allow you to slide the Audio to the left, to match sync.
The best way to eliminate this issue is to Capture in PE from a miniDV tape camera via FW, creating a DV-AVI Type II file, or convert your Assets to this, before Importing into PE.
Good luck,

  • Audio Video synchronization issues

    Hi,
I have a video application that I am building - and
previously I used FMS and TCP connections for video. Now expecting
the latency to be much lesser with UDP, I implemented UDP in my
application and stratus as the RTMFP capable server. I used the
sample video phone application's tutorial do a simple sendStream
    and receiveStream for video.
However, unlike the hosted sample application itself, my
audio and video are completely out of synchronization - about 4
secs!! I tried to look at the sample code to see if there were any
special settings that were made. I could not find any.
    My questions:
    1. Did Adobe make any special tweaks in their hosted sample
application? If so, what are they?
    2. Are there any known synchronization issues with using
    RTMFP connections for video?
    3. Does anyone else also face audio video synchronization
    issues?
    4. If none of the above is true, what do you think my
mistakes are? Please let me know if I need to add more information
    to answer this question.
    Thanks in advance.
    Rohan

with RTMFP, video and audio can go out of sync if the data
rate of your stream exceeds your network capacity. video is
currently sent with 100% reliability, so once it's queued for
transmission, it's going to be sent (eventually). video is lower
priority than audio, though, so your audio data gets first dibs on
your network capacity. if the video stream's data rate is higher
than what fits in your network (after audio), the video data will
back up until its send buffer is filled, and new camera frames will
stop getting captured. in the steady state, this can look like a
multi-second offset between the video and audio.
try turning your video rate/quality down so that it fits in
your network capacity. video and audio should stay in sync.
with RTMP, there's one network transmission buffer (TCP's)
for all of the parts of your stream (audio & video). when you
have insufficient network bandwidth, the TCP buffer will eventually
fill up and video frames will stop being captured to compensate. so
while audio and video might remain in sync, the total end-to-end
latency will go up. when using RTMFP, the audio and video have
independent transmission buffers, so in cases of insufficient
network resources, the higher-priority audio should remain more
timely but video may fall behind.

  • Audio/video synchronization in QuickTime

Is it normal for their the audio and video to be out of sync when recording a movie in QuickTime? My setup is: Mac Mini 1.42 with 512 MB RAM, 10.4.2. I am currently running the iSight through a Macally firewire hub, but I have also tried taking the hub out of the equation and plugging straight into the firewire port on the Mini with no appreciable difference. Quicktime (7.0.2 Pro) is currently set up to record in the Better (H.264) format. Is it problem with the processing power of my machine, the simple inherent latency in the firewire connection itself or could this be some other problem.
    Thanks for any suggestions,
    Todd

    Hello Todd,
I do not think this has anything to do with iSight. If you are not certain that your iSight is working properly, you can check it using the hints in the How To Ensure Your iSight Is Functional FAQ.
Even with my DP G5 processor, I occasionally notice some sync difference while recording in QuickTime and iMovie.
The saved file plays back fine, though. I think this is just how the software works. It maintains quality of the recording, even, if necessary, at the expense of the recording monitor view.
If your saved files have good video quality, perhaps you can live with the situation.
If the quality of your recorded files is inadequate, you may be able to help your mini's speed as suggested in Apple's My Mac runs slowly Mac OS X 10.4 Help article.
You might also want to try a different compression setting in QuickTime Preferences or ask for advice in QuickTime Discussions.

  • Audio/Video Synchronization Issue

I am running iTunes for WinXP version 6.0.4.2 and have been unable for the past month to watch any more than ten seconds of a downloaded video before the audio and video become unsynchronized.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the latest versions of iTunes and Quicktime (v. 7.1) without success. All of my video drivers are up-to-date, and the transfer mode for my hard drive is set to "DMA if available" per the instructions in the troubleshooting guide found at:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303706
Is this a known issue with the latest versions of iTunes and Quicktime? The Apple commercials on the apple.com website are also out of sync, leading me to think that this might be a Quicktime-specific problem. Any suggestions (short of buying an iMac, which I have already considered)? This has become really frustrating!
    Thanks!
    Dell Inspiron 5100   Windows XP

Quick follow up, I just uninstalled iTunes and Quicktime and installed the standalone Quicktime referenced in this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=529813&tstart=15.
Quicktime is working as it should now.

  • CS4 to CS5 audio video synchronization problem

    Hello,
I have a issue when i am opening CS4 Premiere Projects (Win) with CS5 Premiere (Mac), the problem is that the sound and the video is not in the correct time place.
Everything is not synchronized and even the videos are not appearing like they should be in Premiere CS5.
In CS4 all is perfect but when i open this CS5 they are not.
    Any solution?
    Thanks in advance

What are the specs. of the Assets in this Project?
The ideal is to address the OOS (Out Of Sync) at the beginning, which you are doing. However, if thing fail, then this ARTICLE might be useful for fixing the problem down the line.

  • Audio/video out of sync on project, raw okay

Okay, I have a project where the Audio and video get out of sync in cs5, but the original file is just fine.
So, my file is an mpeg 1440/1080 4 hour 40 minute, 53Meg file.  When I preview it in a viewer like media player, it plays perfect, no video/audio
    sync issues.
But, with this file in a Pro CS5 project, the video/audio lose sync.  I have found this has messed up a lot of my final products which I had not seen.
    So, any ideas?

Have you installed the recent updates?
There was a bug fix in a recent update for audio/video synchronization issues. The bug was in the indexing and conforming phase, so you would need to clear the media cache and re-index the assets for the fix to take effect.

  • Audio/Video Not Synchro when capturing

    Hi,
I'm having an audio/video synchronization problem when capturing HDV material onto IMovie. There is probably a 1/2 sec delay. How can I resolve this problem?
First thing iMOVIE says: Cpsturing HD at 3/4 SPEED. Should I worry about this?
I have updated my Imovie and camcorder settings according to my sony camcorder instructions. Camcorder: SONY HVR A1E.
    Your thoughts?

First, make sure your camera is exporting with 16 bit sound and not 12 bit.

I know that In Midlet development using MMAPI there are APIs available to synronize the players like
    p1.setTimaBase(p2.getTimeBase())
But I am not using Players. Through http connection I m getting the raw image data and displaying it through ImageItem i.e no players required.
Therefore If i stream the audio like this How to synchronize that.

  • Unlink Audio & Video greyed out in Premeire Elements 13 (Windows 8.1) [new user]

I posted (or at least I thought the post worked) this question Mar.27th but I can't find it or any replies I may have gotten so if anyone knows its whereabouts I'd appreciate you're telling me how to see it so I won't have 2 threads running for the same question. My question is: why is the option to unlink the audio and video tracks greyed out when I'm trying to substitute part of an audio clip (without ruining the synchronization between the existing audio and video). I'm working with a saved "projectX.prel" file. I noticed when I opened a new project that the UNLINK option is active. This seems contrary to logic i.e wouldn't the unlink action be more likely to be needed when working on an existing file as opposed to when working on a brand new file? How can I separate the 2 components (audio & video) so I can edit just the audio clip without the UNLINK procedure working? Would really appreciate any help anyone can offer with any of the foregoing. Thanks.

    garryw
Thanks for the reply. Glad that suggestion C worked for you.
Is there any remote possibility that the video and audio are really unlinked to start.
Let us take suggestion A, you say that Link Audio and Video is active choice for what you believe to a linked video audio on the Timeline.
You have your clip in the Expert workspace and the clip is not selected as represented in screenshot 1.
If you click on the Video 1 portion of the clip, does the video portion and audio portion highlight to look like what you see in screenshot 2
where the video and audio portion both look highlighted.
Or, if you click on the Video 1 portion of the clip, is it just the video portion that looks highlighted and the audio part
continues to look unhighlighted? As seen in the next screenshot 3?
Depending on your answers, we may next delete the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file which can be found
    Local Disk C
    Users
    Owner
    AppData
    Roaming
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
    13.0
and in the 13.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file which  you delete. If that does not work, then delete the whole 13.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. Be sure to be working with Folder Option Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives enabled so that you can see the complete path given.
As your schedule permits, looking forward to learning of your progress.

  • Separate Audio/Video Question

I'm in the midst of transitioning from iMovie/iDVD to Final Cut Studio. In the last chapter of FCP6: Beyond the Basics, I sent a sequence to Compressor and generated an Audio file and a Video file. The book didn't really say anything about what happens next. I tried it with my first FCP video, (which I had previously simply exported as a QT file and dropped into iDVD, and as I write this I can see that it processing a Dolby Digital file and an MPEG-2. Admittedly, I haven't cracked the book on DVD Studio Pro yet, in fact, I haven't really opened the app except to glance at the interface, and my question will probably be answered there, but what's going to happen next. When I open up DVD Studio Pro, will I be selecting both of these files for the project and then they'll just automatically sync?

Hi, and welcome to the Palm Community Forums.
Let's keep this thread focused on the dialing issue, and I suggest you take up the picture/messaging issue in a separate thread in the Audio, Video and Photos board.
First question is whether the phone has behaved this way from day one, or if it just started after working correctly for a few weeks. You could try soft-resetting the phone...remove the battery and wait a minute, then reinsert, start it up and try again. If that doesn't work, a Hard Reset might be in order, which wipes everything clean and lets you start over. This can correct issues relating to corrupt data or conflicting third-party applications which may have found their way onto the Centro. This article discusses the various types of Reset for different Palm devices.
After the Hard Reset, do not synchronize the phone with your desktop. See if the phone works normally.
Another issue might be a bad SIM card, but I don't know enough about that...the folks at the AT&T store should be able to verify whether the card is good or not.
If all else fails, return it to your AT&T store for a replacement. AT&T has a 30-day return policy for any reason.
Good luck, please let us know how it turns out.

  • Audio/Video out of sync on export

I am trying to export a music video I made back to my camera but the audio gets slightly out of sync. Any explanations? thanks.

    HiSoup:
    Welcome to discussions!
iMovie Guru Lennart Thelander put together a pretty good list here:
    The problem:
    http://www.dvformat.com/htm/features/2000/800/dv_formatfaq.htm
(Scroll down about two thirds to "What's the difference between locked and unlocked audio?" )
    The solution:
    Always use 16-bit/48kHz audio.

  • How can I display & split the audio & video from the same digitized clip?

I digitized a scene into iMovie that I edited on a professional system which I don't have access to anymore. The whole scene is 1 clip. Now I see a few tweaks that I want to make, so I was hoping to do them in iMovie.
I want to "pull up" the audio in one section - meaning I want to take cut about 20 frames of audio from the end of a shot, and then move all the other audio up to fill the hole. To compensate for the missing 20 frames, I'll cut video off the head of the next shot. Some call this prelapping. Some call it an L-cut. Some call it asymmetrical trimming. Either way, I can't figure out how to do it in iMovie.
My clip appears in the timeline as one track - a single track that contains the video and 2 audio tracks. How can I display the audio that's tied to the video on its own track? Then I think I could split audio & video wherever I wanted and trim things up - but I can't figure out how to do it.
Am I asking too much of this software?
BTW, I never see the option to "Split audio clip at playhead". I'm not displaying clip volume or waveforms. Choosing to display waveforms doesn't show me anything. Maybe iMovie thinks I'd only want to see waveforms of audio that isn't tied to my video-and-audio clips?
Thanks in advance for any help...

    Jordon,
"Am I asking too much of this software?"
    No, you're not.
You first want to select your clip(s) and choose Advanced>Extract Audio.
This will copy the audio from the video clip and place it on one of the two separate audio tracks while lowering the audio level to zero in the original video track.
You can now edit and move the audio independently of the video.
With the audio clip selected, you'll find you now have access to Edit>Split Selected Audio Clip at Playhead.

  • IDVD 08 audio/video sync drift toward end of DVD movie - fix/workaround?

Anyone know how I can fix this issue? It's driving me crazy.
I've just spent a few evenings in iMovie 08, editing together the video of my son's birth. All looked & amazingly good in iMovie. The "Large" .m4v file output by iMovie - Shared with the Media Browser - plays perfectly in Quicktime too.
However, after adding that shared movie to iDVD 08, and burning a DVD, I noticed that the audio sync drifts toward the end of the Movie when plated back. At the start of the DVD all seems well, but by the end of the ~1hr 20 minute movie the audio is unbearably out of sync with the video. Completely unwatchable.
After a little Googling I came across some reports that iDVD might not deal well with video that's been recorded with 12-bit audio. I've confirmed that my camcorder is (was!) set to 12-bit rather than 16-bit (the default, I'm sure). So if that's the problem I'm hosed... it's not like I can get a retake on that footage
Is there a reasonable workaround for this issue? I'm obviously unable to re-take the video (or the other 10 hours of DV video tape I've yet to use in an iMovie project). Ideally I'd like Apple to release a patch for this. Shouldn't it be possible for iDVD to account for audio that was originally recorded in 12-bit... even if it's just a checkbox you have to select to tip it off?
Then again, perhaps this is totally unrelated to the 12-bit issue, and this is just a run of the mill bug?
As I said... iMovie generates a MPEG4 video file of the Movie that looks/sounds perfect, so it seems this sync issue's being created somewhere in iDVD as it's rendering the audio/video to burn to the DVD...
    Thanks in advance.

I've tried most of the options I can think of, and the audio sync drift issue continues on this ~1hr 12 minute iMovie/iDVD 08 project.
A couple of promising ideas tried used QT Pro, to export the audio track from the iMovie generated MPEG-4 file - as a WAV file, resampling to 48kHz and 16-bit... then Adding this back to the video track in the MPEG-4 file (having deleted the original audio track). In another test I also tried the Add to Selection and Scale option. Oddly enough I think the Add to Selection and Scale attempt generated more sync issues than before in the final DVD movie... so I stuck with the MPEG-4 file containing the video track and the added, resampled at 48kHz & 16 bit, WAV audio track.
This was saved as a self contained Movie file, producing a QT .mov file. I moved this .mov file into the iDVD projects directory structure so that it was avalable in iDVD's Media Browser. I then reworked the iDVD project to use this QT large.mov file, instead of the original iMovie large.m4v file.
As a reminder... the original large.m4v file has the following properties:
    29.97 FPS H.264 Decoder, 960 x 540, Millions
    AAC, Stereo (L R), 44.100 kHz
    0:01:12:07.16 duration
The resampled and saved QT MOV file has the following properties:
    29.97 FPS H.264 Decoder, 960 x 540, Millions
16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo, 48.000 kHz
    0:01:12:07.16 duration
BOTH versions of this Movie file play flawlessly within QT Pro... there's no audio sync drift evident toward the end of the movie unless I use iDVD 08 to burn either movie file to a Physical DVD (or DVD Disk Image). In both cases the resultant DVD Movie exhibits significant audio sync drift as the ~1hr 12 minute movie progresses. The sync goes out by ~ <= 1 second based on a rough visual assessment.
I've not yet tried to burn either the original iMovie produced MPEG-4 video file or my QT Pro tweaked audio track .MOV file version to a DVD on my PC...
... But I have used an application called Burn (referenced in this earlier/archived iDVD sync drift forum post: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1332100 by user F Shippey - http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net/) to take the QT Pro tweaked .mov file version of the original MPEG-4 file and burn it to a DVD...
    Results:
The Burn app burnt DVD plays with NO audio sync issues!... Even though it was generated from the same audio tweaked (48kHz/16-bit resampled) QT Pro .mov file.
However, whenever I burn a DVD using iDVD 08 the audio sync gradually drifts. It matters not whether I use the original iMovie 08 generated MPEG-4 movie file, or the QT Pro version of that file with the resampled audio track (the same one that works fine with Burn).
It sure looks to me like iDVD has a problem... Again, refer to http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1332100 for someone else who seems to have run into similar challenges.
    Am I overlooking something?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Audio / video sync issue in playback

for every recording i've made, when i play back the archive there is noticable lack of sync between the audio and the person's mouth.   the video seems to lag behind by almost a second.  the good news at least is that the delta is constant.
has anyone else experienced this?  it's happening in any scendario i try, even if i'm just recording myself.
is the LCCS dev team aware of this?  since audio and video streams are recorded separately, is there any way for me to programatically 'nudge' the streams into sync?
it's currently a show stopper, it looks really bad when the sync is so obviously absent.

    finally getting back to this..
i did as you suggested and recorded a video of myself using the recording and playback examples provided with the SDK (the 2.2 newest version btw).
the de-syncing of audio and video is definitely there.  it seems especially bad for longer recordings.  however, an interesting thing i discovered in playback:
    - sometimes, if i drag the playhead somewhere in the recording, pause, and then hit play, video and audio fall into sync.
    - if i start playback from the beginning of the recording, audio/video is always out of sync.
i understand that the video and audio streams are recorded separately and thus played back separately.  my guess is that when those streams are retrieved and playback begins, one starts before/after the other because they're not retrieved at exactly the same time.  it seems some extra work is required to ensure that their playback commences at exactly the same timestamp within each stream.
i can provide my recordings as an example if required.
this is a total showstopper for me.  it renders the entire recording service useless if the playback can't have sync between audio and video.  i would be happy to help with testing this more.  can someone from the LCCS team comment on this issue?
    thanks
