Audio-visual synching

im just getting to grips with my new macbook pro and final cut express. have a fairly basic problem with the latter as when i capture video, the video and audio are not in synch when played back. the video runs about four five seconds after the audio. help anyone??!
thanks.

This happens sometimes, and can happen for a variety of reasons. Most often it occurs when the camera recorded 12-bit audio but the FCE Easy Setup used to capture the video was DV-NTSC, which expects 16-bit audio.
The first thing you should do is check your sequence settings to see if that was the case. If so, you should change your camera settings to 16-bit audio for all future filming.
To fix your current problem you could do one of the following:
If your original film was recorded in 12-bit audio, change your FCE Easy Setup to DV-NTSC 32KHz (32KHz = 12 bit audio) and recapture your video. (This would be my choice.)
As an alternative, you could try Unlinking the audio tracks from the video track in the FCE timeline and reposition the audio track to align it properly with the video. It takes a lot of noodling to do this, but it can be done.

  • HT1657 Why do my movie downloads recently playback with no audio/visual?  I just get a black screen.  It's happened to 3 movies I have downloaded in the past week or two.  I never had this problem before.  Why do I now?

Why do I have download issues all of a sudden:  black scrren, no video, audio, visual, just a black screen.  It's happened 3 times in the past two weeks!  After two downloads, it was still an issue.  At least iTunes gave me a refund, but this is frustrating because I like to download and watch films and tv shows!  Thanks for any helpful feedback.  iTunes reps don't tell me why there is a problem.  They just issue a refund and send me on my way!

I noticd the problem after I downloaded the new update to MacKeeper. I had no issues with the last version of MacKeeper. I don't know if that is the problem or something else.
It is easy enough to try. Drag the MacKeeper.app to the trash. It should pop-up a message asking if you really want to delete. You do. If the problem goes away then MacKeeper was the cause and your problem is solved. You don't need any antivirus or cleanup software. They only cause problems on Macs.
Keeping Flash up-to-date is always a good idea. Download it only from Adobe. The best add-on for Flash is the ClickToFlash Safari Extension that keeps flash turned off until you run it.
Go to the Youtube HTML5 page to make Youtube give you HTML5 videos instead of Flash. Your videos will be higher quality and will make your machine run cooler.

  • Optimum workflow for creating an audio-visual from scanned slides?

I'd like some suggestions as to the best workflow to adopt when generating an AV from scanned slides. I'm transferring my 3-screen audio-visuals from slide format to Blu-ray. The slides are being scanned on a Nikon Coolscan, and after editing end up as ~100 MB, 5400 x 3700, Tiff files with seven layers. These files are then archived, separate from anything I do with them in Premiere. They'll be imported into Premiere, along with the original soundtrack, and eventually output to Blu-ray disk. Then I hire the local cinema for an evening or two, let the word spread, and we reminisce and party!
I realise that pre-conditioning the images – flattening, cropping, down-sampling to a suitable size – would be a good approach, but I'd rather avoid that if possible for two reasons: (1) so that I only have one image to keep track of, instead of the original and a Premiere version; and (2) if I decide to edit colour or contrast I can do so non-destructively on the original. The latter is an important consideration. Images may be used in more than one project. If I decide to alter the look of an image (not because of the look of the image within a particular project, but because I decide the original edit was inherently flawed), it would be better to alter the original and have that change reflected in all other uses of the image, than to alter, say, two copies of the image plus the original.
A finished AV will range from 30-400 images. The longer shows will be broken into sequences of no longer than about 20-30 images. These are some of my concerns:
    Cropping
The scanned images include a small amount of the slide mount. That way I know I've scanned the entire slide. So that has to go. And given that slides are 3:2 and Blu-ray is 16:9, something else has to go as well. I've been through most of the Premiere PDF but have yet to come across a cropping tool. I know how to position, scale, rotate, but how do I crop? Scaling is not a substitute because I may want certain images to not fill the screen and not show the slide mount.
    Flattening
Will layered Tiff files cause difficulties in Premiere or Encore?
    Resolution
Will 5400 x 3700 files (versus resampling to 1920 x 1080) have a serious impact on the time in takes for any part of the process from importing into Premiere to encoding in Encore?
    Image Order
Is it better to order and renumber images using Adobe Bridge, or should I just shuffle images around in Premiere? Working with Premiere alone would have the advantage that I can import the originals (if that is an acceptable workflow).
    Packaging
When a project is finished, I want to package all the assets via Project Manager and archive them. And I'd rather not archive 100MB image files. Now, this is going to be a big ask, and I'll have to jump across to InDesign to explain. When I've used scanned images in InDesign, I link to the original 100 MB files. No problems whatsoever. Come archiving time, I package in one of two ways: use an InDesign script to crop and resample the original images, and then package; or I simply export to PDF, and during the export all images are automatically cropped, resampled, and saved within the PDF in whatever format I choose. A simple and elegant archive.
Does Premiere have the ability to crop and resample the stills it uses, and either overwrite the original or save as a new file?
That question has just made me think: if I do need to crop, flatten and resample before importing into Premiere, or for archiving, maybe I should be mocking up my Premiere projects in InDesign set to a page size of 1920 x 1080. I could drag in all the images, then shuffle, crop and size them. When I'm happy with the sequence, I export as jpegs, and get the cropped, resampled images that way, ready for Premiere.
    Any comments most appreciated.

Your last paragraph makes the most sense. Although a script in Photoshop would easily do what you want.
Before you resize them, make sure you don't really need to pan across them. Resizing down to around 4K or so might avoid problems.

  • Audio not synching during publish

Hello everyone. I'm working in Captivate 4, (purchased, not
trial). I'm relatively new user, but have been working intensely
for about a month developing my tutorial.
My project previews correctly, (entire file is 117 slides, 9
    minutes long.)
However, after publishing to an AVI file, the audio does not
match up with the video - the audio playback is slightly slower,
and after 2 minutes, has lapped the slide.
I tried different publish settings, but have not found
anything to work, although changing some settings have improved the
    output somewhat.
Does anyone have any suggestions for me?
This file will be published on YouTube. This is a
    demonstration video only.
My audio was developed using text to speech, (so no music
quality sound is required) and each slide has one audio file per
    slide, (nothing embedded.)
    Settings I chose were:
Video Format: MJPEG Compressor (tried Indeo, but syncing was
    worse)
    Audio: PCM (only choice)
Encoding: FM Radio (64) and 11.025 KHz Frequency
    Encoding Speed 5
I restarted, and do not have any other program actively
    running (except Kasperski)
We recently reformatted the hard drive on this machine, took
every program off, defragmented, so the system is very lean and
    clean.
Added more memory, so now we have 3 GIG of memory.
Running XP, the only installed programs are MS Office,
    Kasperski, and Captivate.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

  • Audio visual books

I'm wondering if there is such a thing as an audio visual book app? For the iPad Air
Meaning can I read the book at the same time I'm listening to someone read it to me?

As you'll note, I've had the moderator move your thread.  Before 2006, Apple's consumer notebook was called iBook, and hence the delay in your reply for posting in the wrong forum.    Hopefully now someone can answer it.

  • Audio visual presentation using photo's.

I am looking for software for the iMac to make an audio visual presentation using photo's. I want to be able to show photo's at different length to match the music.

There are many ways to produce slide shows using iPhoto, iMovie or iDVD and some limit the number of photos you can use (iDVD has a 99 chapter (slide) limitation).
If what you want is what I want, namely to be able to use high resolution photos (even 300 dpi tiff files), to pan and zoom individual photos, use a variety of transitions, to add and edit music or commentary, place text exactly where you want it, and to end up with a DVD that looks good on both your Mac and a TV - in other words end up with and end result that does not look like an old fashioned slide show from a projector - you may be interested in how I do it. You don't have to do it my way, but the following may be food for thought!
Firstly you need proper software to assemble the photos, decide on the duration of each, the transitions you want to use, and how to pan and zoom individual photos where required, and add proper titles. For this I use Photo to Movie. You can read about what it can do on their website:
    http://www.lqgraphics.com/software/phototomovie.php
(Other users here use the alternative FotoMagico:  http://www.boinx.com/fotomagico/homevspro/ which you may prefer - I have no experience with it.)
Neither of these are freeware, but are worth the investment if you are going to do a lot of slide shows. Read about them in detail, then decide which one you feel is best suited to your needs.
Once you have timed and arranged and manipulated the photos to your liking in Photo to Movie, it exports the file to iMovie  as a DV stream. You can add music in Photo to Movie, but I prefer doing this in iMovie where it is easier to edit. You can now further edit the slide show in iMovie just as you would a movie, including adding other video clips, then send it to iDVD 7, or Toast,  for burning.
You will be pleasantly surprised at how professional the results can be!
To simply create a slide show in iDVD 7 onwards from images in iPhoto or stored in other places on your hard disk or a connected server, look here:

If you have any further question please state what version of OS X you are running.

    Hi!
I just downloaded QuickTime Pro and when I made a "new movie recording" my voice is not in synch with my lips—there's a lag.
Why is that? Is it my processing speed? Memory issues? Preference settings I need to tweak? Or, am I just talking to quickly!?

  • Audio/Video Synch Problem

I have the motorola HD DVR and am using it with the Zenith 19" LCD HDTV I finally got from Verizon.  After watching a channel for a few minutes, the audio and video go out of synch.  If I switch the channels back and forth the problem is corected for a few minutes.  Has anyone else experienced this problem?

In regards to an A/V sync problem, I've just noticed in the last two or three days that the voice is no longer synced with the lips on both of my DVR equiped TVs.  One's an HD unit (but TV is Std) and the other is an Std unit.  Will rebooting the units fix or improve this problem?  Is there another way to correct this if that doesn't do it?

  • Possible to split Audio/ Visual for apple tv

    Hey,
I have a projector in my room and was wondering if i could airplay movies through itunes to the apple tv (connected to my projector) and then keep the sound coming out through the headphone port (the speakers on the projector are average). As i have my laptop and stereo on the other side of the room and dont really want to have cables running along the floor. If this isnt possible are there any cheap alternatives.

I was considering buying an Apple TV to do something similar, but after looking everywhere, it seems that iTunes on a Mac doesn't allow to Airplay Videos to multiple Airplay devices or split the Audio and Video signals (where one device would be AppleTV for the video portion, and other devices would be an Airport Express connected to my sound system for the Audio portion, or to play the Audio part on my own Mac - like you want to do).
I don't know if it can help you, but I can describe the system that I am currently using, which works, but is not as elegant:
About 4 years ago, I have purchased and installed on my Mac a software called Airfoil (http://www.rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/).  This capture software allows you to connect any numbers of Airplay enabled devices to your Mac via Wifi, and stream the captured content (Audio and/or Video). They have been doing this, way before iTunes could give you that capability for the Audio stream.  This allows me to stream music from my Mac, with the Pandora app, for example  (not just iTunes) to the multiple Airport Express I have distributed thoughout the house, where each AE has a differnet sound system connected to it.  The beauty about it, is that Airfoil ensures that they are ALL in synch - which is not always the case with the multiple speakers function which is built-in iTunes.
Airfoil also comes with a built-in Video Player that can capture a DVD on your Mac, or any Web application like NetFlix, Hulu, etc, and output the video throught the Mac display port (where your projector could be connected), and at the same time stream the Audio portion through all your Airport Express (or any Airplay-enabled devices, like an Apple TV).  Airfoil also have an App on the iPhone (Airfoil Speaker), where you can stream the Audio from your Mac to your iPhone or iPad.  They also have Airfoil for iPhone, where any Audio playing on your iPhone or iPad can be steamed throughout the house via Airplay.
In summary, for the Video feed, I have my projector connected to my Mac on one side of the room (using a mini-display to HDMI adaptor).  For the Audio feed, I have an Airport Express connected the sound systems accross the room (could be an Apple TV), or iPhone or iPod Touch....  Airfoil on the Mac ensures that the video stream to the projector is in synch with the Audio stream to the sound system(s) - so that the viewing doesn't look like a badly translated Japenese movie...  :-)
The only draw back to that system, is that it requires a lot a CPU from my Mac for Airfoil to capture, slip everything, synch and stream to the Airplay device(s) - and have noticed that the Mac CPU fans run to high speed after half an hour or so into the movies.  It works great, but I have the (bad) feeling that it stresses the CPU/GPU of my Mac, and will shorten its life over time.  That is why I would have preferred a $99 Apple TV to be able to do the same thing - but apparently not (as of yet).

  • Option to Remove Explicit Audio/Visual Album Artwork

    Hello,
I'd like to request the option to remove the album artwork, perhaps from any currently playing song. Explicit artwork (such as from suggested songs) shows up when I am listening to clean music.
For example, when I make a radio station based on a Trance song that I like (that is very clean), the artwork may be explicit/racy/offensive for a random new song that I have no control of. In addition, suggestions of other popular songs pop up in the edges of the interface that I have no control over.
Thus, it would be great if I could turn off artwork during radio mode, or completely. (Or, if there was a filter for radio play that blocked explicit material--audio or visual.)
Thanks very much as this would provide a cleaner environment for the majority youth that is using Spotify.

I'm surprised this is an issue. Parental controls to block the display of explicit album covers and tracks should have been implemented a long time ago. I do not understand how this option does not yet exist, especially since Spotify has a music category labeled "Kids". Why would anyone want their kids surfing Spotify for music when there are album covers showing scantily clad and/or completely bare breasted women, often posed in sexual positions. These types of albums pop up randomly, especially while you are searching artists/tracks. I'm tempted to get rid of my account, after seeing an album cover displaying topless women, while using Spotify on my PS4...I was looking for different versions of "I Heard it Through the Grapevine" (not an explicit song) and BAM...bare boobs in my face. Good thing my kid was not there listening to music with me...a ritual we enjoy doing together. Apparently, this is not an option with Spotify.  Please please please implement the option to block explicit album art. I believe this functionality exists on the iPhone version...or did at one point. I would like this option on the desktop and PS4 as well. Otherwise, I will strongly consider canceling my subscription. Almost every other entertainment app/platform I've used has had these types of parental controls available. It would not stop others from seeing the artwork...it will just allow the opportunity to create a safer and less sleazy atmosphere for impressionable kids/young adults. Thanks.

  • Audio not synching with video when capturing

When capturing video from my Sony DV camera, the audio is always out of synch with the video which has forced me to move the audio in the timeline to manually synch. The amount by which it's out of synch seems to vary, i.e. not always out of synch by the same number frames.
I'm sure there's a capture setting to fix it but have yet to locate it.
    Thanks.

A separate issue perhaps, but after my recent upgrade to CS6 I need to render out a stacked 18 minute timeline done in CS5 (Win 7/Matrox MXO2). All 7 tracks of audio are out of synch 8 frames late.  When it comes to common backwards compatibility issues that I feared, it's a pretty simple fix after a render, unlink and re-render.   I don't see this mentioned in the archives, so if anyone has an explanation or quick fix I'd appreciate hearing about it.

  • Is this an audio/video synching issue of flash?

    Hi,
    Good day.
I am having synch problems with externally load FLV and audio
on my flash presentation (which is not online, but for CD)
    Scenario:
    - My presentation is 10 mins long with animations, embedded
    audio, and externally loaded FLVs.
    - the FLVs are loaded from flvplaybacks, and are set to
autoplay: true (because they load on certain timelines) and
    autorewind: false.
    Problems:
    1. the loading of FLVs won't stick in synch with the
timeline. For example, when I readjust the timeline to fit the
length of the FLV movie, it works for awhile. But when I reload it,
or plays on second or third loop, or play on another machine, the
    synching is off.
    2. the audio won't stay in synch with the animations or
video. When I readjust the timeline, it would sync for awhile, but
the same happens with no.1 above (the synching goes off again on
second or third loop of the presentation, or when played on another
    machine.
    3. I can see the first frame of the video when it reaches the
end of the film. The original video (on .mov) does not have it.
By the way, it gets worse after a few minutes. Like after 5
minutes of the 10 mins presentation, the synching of audio and
    video are completely off.
Any response or discussion would be appreciated. Thanks in
    advance.

    Hi,
I am able to solve this using the FLVPlayback.playheadUpdate
    event. I set the FLVPlayback.playheadUpdateInterval to 2000
milliseconds (or 2 seconds). FLVPlayback.playheadUpdate event gets
triggered every two seconds. In this event I check what is the
frames of the swf file that shold have been loaded (No of seconds
the video has played * 25). Then I gave a Gotoandplay command to
play from the appropriate point in my swf file.
To summarise, I am synchronizing the animation and the video
    every two seconds.

  • Audio Book Synch

I recently purchase an audio book from itunes. It's in order on itunes, but when I synch it, it's out of order. Any suggestions??

    Hi. Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Unless you want to turn your audiobook into a single monolithic file, just make a playlist for it and sync that. The iPod's audiobook section was designed to work with single file audiobooks, listed in alphabetical order by title, and has not been updated to reflect the recent improved support for multi-file audiobooks in iTunes. I have playlist folders for each author containing playlists for each book. It's still worth marking the files as audiobooks within iTunes, both when listening on your computer and to keep the files out of the main music section. If you're interested in linking your chapters into a single file you can find more information at Aldo on Audiobooks.
