Audio volume low after wake-up

After I wake the Mac from sleep, the audio volume from my external speakers is very low and the keyboard volume controls do not work. The volume is low and cannot be adjusted.
After a restart everything works correctly -- until the Mac goes to sleep again.
Computer: Mac Pro - late 2013 - 6,1
System: OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)
Speakers: Bose Companion 2 Series II (plugged into audio output of my Mac Pro)
Thank you for any help you can provide.
John
Mac Pro (Late 2013), OS X Yosemite (10.10.1), Thunderbolt Monitor

Thank you, lllaass, but it was to no avail. The problem persists: When the Mac wakes from sleep the audio from the external speakers is low and cannot be adjusted up or down using the keyboard volume controls.
I did some more research and others are apparently having the same problem. One suggestion I found does work -- temporarily. That is entering a Terminal command (sudo killall coreaudiod) that restores correct audio function. Unfortunately once the Mac goes to sleep again the command must be reentered again. But at least it saves a full restart.
Hopefully Apple will issue a solution to this issue.
Thanks again!

  • Audio volume low when computer wakes from sleep - os x yosemite

I've been having an issue ever since I upgraded to OS X Yosemite, where the audio volume coming out of my external speakers is extremely low after I wake my computer up from sleep.  The only resolution I have found is restarting the computer.  Once I do that, the audio volume is great.  If I were to boot up my computer after it has been completely shut down, the audio volume is also great.  The issue only occurs after sleep.  Anyone else having a similar issue?  Is there another fix besides restarting the computer?

This is a BUG.  It has been submitted to engineering many times - unfortunately Apple has not done anything about it.   We have 5 Mac Pros,  all 5 do the same thing after updating to Yosemite.   The  PRAM / SMC reset is useless -  we even  installed a fresh  OS on one of the machines (a suggestion of the level 2 Apple tech)  same problem.   Clearly this is a system level bug.   Only way to get it resolved is to keep pounding the bug report site with requests.     The squeaky wheel gets the oil.   The problem is 100% repeatable on the machines that exhibit the bug.
In the mean time  set up an applescript with this command and it will reset the sound - do not include the brackets :
<do shell script "sudo killall coreaudiod" with administrator privileges>
Run it every time you wake from sleep and you won't have to deal with the problem ever again.
Pretty lame that Apple has not fixed it even though the problem appears to be pretty widespread.

  • Audio volume low

Could domeone help me with audio recorded in QT directly from the video camera? The audio volume of the .mov file is very low although it's turned to maximum. When the same clip is uploaded from camera to Final Cut Pro the volume of audio is normal. When this clip is exported from FCP to QT the audio of the .mov is loud and clear.

  • IPhone 3GS Audio Volume Decrease After iOS 5 Update

The Audio/Volume on my iPhone 3GS has Decrease SIGNIFICANTLY After iOS 5 Update.  Oddly, the volume of the ring is fine, and as lout as it used to be, and as loud as all other audio should be, but when using any 3rd party applications, the volume output is significantly less (about 40% less) than it used to be.
I am NOT the only person to experience this problem.  Apparently, the issue has been around since this past summer, when iOS was still being developed / tested.  There is a post about someone experiencing the same issue, here:
    http://modmyi.com/forums/general-iphone-chat/768919-ios-5-low-volume.html
And before you ask .. I did a language change and reset, and I am still experiencing the SAME issue.
Any help or advice with this problem would be greatly appreciated.
    In advance, thank you.

I have a similar or related problem with iOS5/3GS and volume:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/16413964#16413964
In my case I can hear nothing from the internal speakers although I can use headphones. The volume slider bar is unavailable unless I plug in headphones.

  • Call volume low after using blue tooth

I have an issue that I have not seen a response for.  After nearly 2 years of perfect use, my call volume (that is the sound of a caller's voice) is now too low.  The volume button on the side of the phone is at its peak (when I am on a call).  No water or other debris has gotten into the phone speaker that I can see.  The only think that did happen before this problem is - I had been on a blue tooth call in my car.  I have used this phone with blue tooth for over a year without any problems, but I mention this as it is the only think that I can think of that might have caused this glitch.  It is though the call volume is purposely very low and I thought that the blue tooth use may have caused this.  Any thoughts?

It sounds like it is still connected.
    Try disconnecting it here:
Settings > Bluetooth > Select the Durango and disconnect.
    If that does not work:
Reset: Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons and don’t let go until the screen goes dark and the Apple logo appears (no data will be lost)

  • Volume low after restart since Lion has been installed

    Hi,
Since I have updated my iMac to Lion, all the time I start or restart it the volume of the integrated speakers is set to the minimum. I read other forums where people had the opposite, volume very high after each restart and I tried what was proposed (set volume in System preference/Audio or in Applications/Utilities/Audio MIDI setup) but nothing works.
Before Lion I never had this problem. What could be wrong?

  • All AAC Audio Files Lower After 6.0.2 Update

Just checking to see if anyone has had this problem before. I did the update two days ago (6.0.2) and noticed that my AirPort Express output was noticeably lower afterwards. I checked through my iTunes Library, "Get Info", and discovered in "Summary" that all of my AAC files had a volume reduction of about -10 decibels. For example, where a file had been -5 decibels for the purpose of 'Soundcheck', that file was now -15 dbs. I've discovered that I can solve the volume problem by unchecking "Soundcheck" in the Preferences --> Playback menus, but, in doing so, I've lost normalization of playback. Is there any way to control this feature across the board? Can I expect, with the next update, to have the volume decrease again? Any thoughts on this problem? Thanks.

It's good to see that I am not the only person having this problem. A fairly detailed database of the problem is in this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1619465&#1619465
I've been trying different things. I noticed that Apple Lossless gives a nice sound, but ***** up space. I have also noticed that many people have talked about the combination of MP3 and AAC in their libraries. It seems that the MP3 files play louder, and sure enough, the decibels for the ten MP3 files that I had were signicantly louder -- in the +decibels range. I converted them to AAC and removed the MP3 versions. I unchecked Soundcheck, played a few songs, and then checked Soundcheck. The sound seems to have gone up.

  • IPhone system wide audio volume issues after iOS 5 update...

I have an iPhone 4 (CDMA) that I updated to iOS 5 on launch day. I didn't notice it at first, and maybe it's just my imagination, but the volume of everything on the phone seems to have gotten a bit lower. Not only music, but also all ringtones, SMS tones... everything. I checked to make sure all the volume sliders are up; they are. I also made sure volume and accessibility settings are set appropriately; they are as well. I'm stumped on this and unfortunately I don't have another iPhone running iOS 4 to test this with. I have searched the forums here and on Google to no avail; it seems that either people haven't begun posting about this yet, or it's not a problem with most users. Is anyone else noticing this and if so, is there a workaround?

    Hey there,
Thanks for the tip. I tried it, but it doesn't seem to have made any difference. I noticed a glitch a few days ago - when I unlocked my phone and went to listen to some music (through an ihome), there was barely any sound. I touched the volume slider (which was already at max volume) and it shot back up to normal. I still think that ringtones/smstones are softer than iOS 4 though.

  • Hp omen audio volume so low after windows 10 upgrade

i upgraded to windows 10 and i find that the audio volume level is really low compared to how it was on window 8.1 i checked that realtek high definition audio driver is properly installed the volume now even when i max it out is really low  its so hard to watch even youtube

It does appear the drivers were not included in the Windows 10 operating system and are not available for download on the driver page. They may be added in the future but for now we can only try using Windows Updates to install. If you go to Start > Settings > Update and Security > Make sure you're on the Windows update tab and select the Advanced settings button. Make sure the box to install optional updates is checked, and then check for available updates. Install any available updates and restart your PC.  After this go into Device Manager and right click the WWAN adapter. Select Update driver software and let it search automatically. If it does not find the driver automatically try it again but select the option to specify a driver. You will get to a page that asks to select a vendor and model. Click the Windows update button to refresh the list of available drivers and look for your WWAN adapter.  If you do not know which WWAN adapter is in your model (it should show the name but may show Unknown Device or Network adapter) right click on it, go to Properties and select the Details tab. Change the drop down to Hardware Ids and give me the first ID in the list. Thanks.

  • Please help.  My audio track is too low after exporting movie made with Premiere Pro to YouTube.

Hello.  My crew and I recently completed post-production on an  independent film.  We used Adobe Premiere Pro 5.0 for video and audio  editing.  We had a very low budget for production, so we didn't have the best audio equipment to record sound with.  So in editing, we had to do quite a bit of sound mixing to minimize background/ambient noise and interferences/distortions caused by large electrical appliances in some indoor scenes, such as taverns and cafes.  We managed to clean up the audio, and the audio ultimately sounded great.  However, when we exported the film to YouTube, the entire audio track sounded low.  To hear the film at an adequate level on YouTube, the volume has to be turned all  the way up.  I'm wondering what can be done to export the film to YouTube and maintain strong, optimal audio volume/quality.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you and take care.

As Jeff of Safeharbor noted, you really need to check the audio meters in Prpro with your "final" project. I found that I could have a sound level that played fine on my computer, but ... on exporting to a DVD ... was way low and required a very high setting on any other computer or a tv to be able to hear. I hadn't actually looked at the audio meters. On checking them ... yeah, the peak was down about -18, the main content of the talking-heads was below that. After raising it with PrPro's audio tools, the sound was fine.
I'd bet your sound is showing low on the meters ...

  • X-Fi Xtreme Audio - Volume goes low, static, then comes back.

Hi all, I have a problem that just developed with my sound after 3 years of owning this PC. Is this the infamous static problem with the card or something else I can fix? Thanks.
I was playing a game the other day when the sound 'cut out'. If I turn the volume on my speakers up louder I can sometimes hear what should be playing, it's very quiet and sometimes distorted. There is also a loud hiss and static when the volume is at standard levels whilst the sound is doing this. Sometimes I can't hear anything if I turn it right up even, it's just the static.
There have been the odd pop, crackle and even strange noise coming from it on occasion over the last few days.
After a while it just decides to go back to normal and will work for a while and then do the same thing again. Will happen when playing games or even just on the desktop (listening to music to test this)
I have unplugged my speakers (2 desk speakers with subwoofer) and put headphones in, they are doing exactly the same thing so it is not the speakers.
I have updated the drivers. No change.
I'm baffled. Sometimes even restarted the computer doesn't fix it, it just decides to work again.
It's almost like it's getting inteference or picking up a staticy radio, and then cuts out again, but obviously i know that's not what it's doing.
Any solutions or am I looking at buying a new sound card here?
I'm not using two gfx cards, and the mobo is ASUS p5n-e sli. I have an Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTS gfx card.
Any other info you need let me know, thanks in advance.
Oh and I believe it's in PCI. Not PCI-E.

@Re: X-Fi Xtreme Audio - Volume goes low, static, then comes backu Hi
Did anyone solve this - I have started getting exactly the same problem today. There is a fairly loud pop and then the sound that normally should be coming form the machine (game or music) is very quiet and distorted. After a short while (a few minutes), it pops again and starts working again. I built this machine a few months ago and this is the first time that I have had this issue. The specs are as follows:
    XFX ATI Radeon HD 5870
Asus P6X58D Premium Intel X58 Motherboard,
    Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping 2.66Ghz (Nehalem)
    Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-2800C9 (600MHz) Tri-Channel
    Hitachi Deskstar 7K2000 2TB HD
    Intel X25-M Mainstream 80GB SSHD
    X-Fi Fatalty FPS
The X-Fi card is from my old machine and it worked perfectly in that one.
    Many thanks,
    Dave

  • SX80 Audio Volume Became low

I am using SX80 unit with projector connected with 50' HDMI cable, and the main audio also comes out from projector over HDMI. I am also getting another audio out to external amplfier+ speaker set to the back side of the room ( this is faily large room).
Suddenly I came across that the audio volume over the projector ( though HDMI) became very low. But the audio over "line out" was still OK. I was not able to figure out why this became low; I even tried TC console, and nothing I could do there to get normal audio out.
Everything became normal after a factory reset. Does anyone had similaro experience with SX80 ?
    Thanks, Nick.

At a guess, I'd say that the SX80 is echo cancelling as it's hearing itself back through the microphones too much.
We've seen this quite a few times on various models of endpoint - and the end users usually think "I can't hear, so I'll turn the volume up" which often makes the problem worse.  Turning the volume down on the display device, and the endpoint, usually resolves the issue.
PS Your question would be better placed in the TelePresence section of the forums where these devices are more actively discussed than in the Other Collaboration section you have posted in.  If the above has not answered your question, I'd suggest you move your discussion over there.

  • Audio volume drops in FLV file after inserting into Captivate 4

The audio volume drops almost 50% in FLV files inserted into Captivate 4.  Is there a solution for this problem?
    Thank you.

    Hi Sony,
That was the first thing I ever tried when I discovered the default setting for FLV and slide video (variables and advanced actions are my favorites, as you know perhaps). Perhaps I missed something, and did not try in CP 5.5 or after the latest patch on CP5.0, but this system variable seemed only to have effect on the normal audio clips, not on audio for video?

  • Low audio volume in DVD SP

I've been experiencing low audio volume with burned DVDs in DVD SP 4.
The audio volume is fine in FCP, and also in the self-contained exported QT file.
But once imported into DVD SP and burned to a DVD, the volume is almost cut in half on multiple projects. The DVD's are short (< 30 minutes) so the audio is left as an AIFF file rather than converting it to an .ac3 with Compressor.
I don't see any way to control the volume in DVD SP.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,

There's no way to control volume in DVDSP.
I had the same problem, but I had an ac3 file through Compressor. And there was this feature in it called "dialog normalization" that I had to turn off (setting it at -31dB), and my levels were good.
If you can't solve your problem with AIFF, maybe try ac3, and see if it suits you.
