Audio vs. video podcast playback

At the end of watching a video podcast I am returned to the episode menu of the podcast I just watched. At the end of listening to an audio podcast I am returned to the main (iPod) menu.
Is there any way to make audio podcast playback act like video podcast playback (meaning return me to the episode menu instead of the main menu)?

  • Video Podcast Playback Problem

I have an issue where a single video podcast cannot be found by the iPod app on my iPhone.
+ The video Podcast is downloaded to my PowerBook's iTunes Podcast library and will play from there.
+ The video podcast in question is checked.
+ The iTunes and iPhones settings are correct, other video podcasts download and play.
+ When I sync the iPhone I can see the podcast is being downloaded to my iPhone in iTunes.
+ I've tried resubscribing and have looked at the file details on my PowerBook and it doesn't differ from any other video podcast.
The problem is that when I open the iPod app on the iPhone and click Podcasts the podcast is not listed. It is only true for this one podcast. Others, like The Onion video podcast are listed and play.
Searching the iPhone from the top level the iPhone finds the video podcast by name so it is for sure on the phone. Clicking on it starts playback like any other video podcast, but there is only a blank screen.
One workaround I found was to create a playlist on my PowerBook that contains podcasts. If I do this then the podcast can be played on the iPhone from this playlist and from the top level search. This is a workaround though and I would like to understand why the iPod app can't seem to find this one podcast.
    Thank you for your help.

This problem was fixed with the iPhone 3.1 software release. For those who are curious the video podcasts that were not showing up were from SnapStream's Beyond TV.

  • Any  Quick Way to Strip Audio from Video Podcast

I like the Mad Money podcast. All I can find is video podcast only. I really don't care to look at Jim Cramer's ugly mug everyday.... I would prefer just to have the audio only so I can put on an iPod shuffle.
Does anyone know if an audio podcast of the show is available or, if not, of a quick way to strip it from the video?
    Thanks!

You can also open the file as an audio file, and save it as an MP3, in Amadeus Lite ($24.99 from the Apple App Store - requires OSX 10.5.5) or Amadeus Pro ($40 - requires OSX 10.4 or higher, Snow Leopard compatible). Both are available in trial versions. (Unfortunately Audacity won't open these files.)

  • No audio on video podcast

    Hi all.
Just got my first iPod a few weeks ago and absolutely love it! Just started subscribing to podcasts and am having trouble with a particular podcast - "Green Bay Packers Official Podcast". I have no audio when played through my iPod and no audio when viewed on my G4. The video comes through great! So, being that I am new to podcasts, I hope I am simply making a mistake. Can somebody please download the latest video podcasts. Either "Mike McCarthy Press Conference" or "Brett Favre Press Conference" and let me know if it works for you?
Thank you in advance for your help!

    Hi
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you
I download podcast direct in to iTunes from the podcast sites like mac break, BBC etc. I have the latest upgrade for quick time too.
There is a second problem. From Mac break site some of the old podcasts are not downloading at all and some say downloaded but no video and audio. I haven't got a clue why it is not happening.
Can some body help me please

  • Video Podcast Playback Issue

I am having trouble with downloaded podcasts showing "This movie format is not supported" when I try to play the successfully downloaded video podcast on my iPhone 3G. These movies are .mov QuickTime files, but they will not play in the iPhone's iPod. I am running software version 2.2 on my iPhone. Is this a bug or does the iPhone's iPod not recognize Apple's own movie codec?

There have been several issues with the "In Rainbows" video podcasts. Originally (first week of December, 2007), they were released as (thumbs_down versions), which were huge files and had transfer errors (iTunes would eventually stop downloading after hours of hanging time...). I submitted feedback to iTunes which forwarded it to Radiohead. Since then, the files download perfectly, however the only podcast that is ipod ready is the "In Rainbows" Promo episode. The podcasts need to be MP4 or M4V files. Since Radiohead's revision to their podcast files in mid-December, the files are all MOV files, which will play great within iTunes but need to be converted to play on ipods. Kind of ruins the idea of a video podcast when it can't sync with ipods without some kind of funny business...
The transfer should work fine, but I wouldn't doubt if there are issues with the latest podcast files posted online (by the band or whoever handles this sort of thing). One suggestion is to search for SCOTCH MIST: A FILM WITH RADIOHEAD IN IT. This is the final video (52 minutes) by Radiohead that combines all of the released podcast files and includes other video. It is on youtube as of midnight, Jan. 1. Radiohead released this final video project in celebration for the New Year.
    Enjoy.

  • Audio or Video Podcast?

Is there any way that I can get iTunes to show which podcasts and iTunes U content is video and which is audio only? I only want to transfer the videos to my ipad and only the audio to my ipod.

Video episodes for Podcasts and iTunes U have a small TV screen icon to the right of the episode's title. Expand the Podcast information by clicking on the right-facing arrow which is to the left of the series's title.

  • Video Podcast Playback

Hi, downloaded an Extras episode from i-tunes which started to play ok and i was able to view the programme. When I went back to it a couple of days later the video would not play - I only had sound and a picture clip showing on screen. Also, as the podcasts played back the sound was jumping.
    Any help appreciated, thanks.

Hi, thanks for your response. The setting was already as you said. The podcast disappears from the ipod once you have viewed even a little of it - even though i have it set to 'keep all episodes'. Couldn't check if the Extras episode was in the video section as it seems to have disappeared - it is showing in itunes under 'recently added' but i can't find it on my ipod. HELP please!

  • Separating Audio & Video Podcasts in the Same Feed

Slightly complex question here ... with several possible solutions.
I have a few podcast feeds that combine both audio and video podcasts. I would like to synch only the audio episodes to my iPod.
If I try to synch manually, I have to choose every episode of every feed I want to synch in one go ... I haven't figured out how to add to an existing set of podcasts on my iPod. I don't seem to be able to synch everything then manually delete the videos.
If I synch automatically, I get all the video too, which eats too much disc space.
I've thought of the following possible solutions, though I don't know if they will work.
    - subscribe to the a/v feed twice, and delete the video feeds from the feed I synch to the iPod;
    - move the videos out of the podcast section to someplace else;
Any help? I'm an old Mac user, and have been using iTunes for a long time, but podcasts and iPods are new to me, so I may be missing something obvious.
    Thanks!

  • Can my iTune channel have both audio & video podcasts?

Quick question from a newbie getting feet wet, can I upload audio and video podcasts into 1 single subscription channel?
    Thanks!

You mean audio and video episodes p the podcast is the overall collection of episodes (sorry to be picky but if you don't get the terminology right it causes a lot of confusion).
You can mix episodes in the feed: episode lives within an 'item' tag, and there is no technical reason why you shouldn't alternate audio and video, so that both appear. What you can't do is put two episode media files into one 'item' - the second will be ignored.
However your subscribers won't thank you for doing this: it means that even if they only want the audio version they still have to download the video version. I would suggest having two separate feeds (which you will have to submit separately), one for audio and one for video - treat it as two separate podcasts though the basic content would otherwise be the same: you will probably have to make the titles slightly different (put 'audio' or 'video' in the title to make things clear).

  • Problem with Video Podcasts

Hey, I have been looking at the Video Podcasts recently, wanted to download a couple, but everytime I try, nothing. Regular Podcasts are okay, but I like to see what the BBC is talking about. Oh, I have the Nano 3G 8GB. I think that is how I should write it.
    Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

    I'll also confirm this oversight.
I doubt its an outright glitch, I'm sure its designed this way as an oversight.
i.e. The iPod app assumes that Podcasts are audio, and that any 'Podcast' that is video will be accessed through the 'Video' button.
I know that this is a point of contention for me, since I have both audio and video podcasts that I listen/watch through the 'Podcasts' section of iTunes, so I figure I would do the same on the iPhone. (I don't have a video iPod, so I don't know how it works on there.) I have a few TV shows synced to my iPhone, as well as a movie, and all of my music videos. My Video section is a little cluttered to be constantly needing to scroll to the bottom of the video list for my latest video podcast episodes, when there is a perfectly good 'Podcasts' button to be tapped!
I must say that I do like the fact that you can play music videos as if they were just songs in the music section, though. I have a few songs that I only have as a music video, not as just plain audio, so they wouldn't sync to my 3G iPod or iPod nano. In Front Row on my Mac, I have been able to play them as 'music' in addition to as a video, so I appreciate being able to do that on the go now, too.

  • Video Podcasts streaming window size problem since upgrade to 9.0.3

Since the upgrade to 9.0.3 on Windows Vista SP2 when I go to the iTunes store and play a video podcast (Tekzilla, ABC news, etc.), a small window opens up without any controls to stop/start, show time played, expand window, etc. It seems the play must be initiated from a small button to the right of the specific podcast, not the play button on the upper left as before.
I have not found a way to expand the small window to full screen as worked before.
I have played with the options on the iTunes and tried Cntl + F, 1, 2, etc. Set the view option to full screen, etc. In short, every option that I can think of.
I have tried large quicktime and HD podcasts with the same result.
If I download the podcast, as opposed to steaming the podcast; and then highlight and hit the upper left play button, the podcast plays full screen and everything works as before (previously streaming and download playing worked the same).
I have a 6 MB DSL connection which works fine for Hulu, etc. and previously worked fine for full screen video podcast playback in iTunes. I am using a core 2 T5500 CPU with Vista SP2. This machine is a couple years old but is still relatively quick for non-gaming use.
Has iTunes changed? Is there a setting that I need to reset?

Likewise. I started having the problem before 9.03. The upgrade helped for a couple of days, then it started happening again. And then I upgraded to 9.1, and not only do I have to log in and agree to the settings page EVERY SINGLE TIME I LOG IN but the "remember password" box is now completely missing.
Any time I have iPhone apps to update, I have to click on "download all", which then pops up the login box. I enter my password, click on OK to agree that my settings are OK, then I have to click on "download all a second time.
    This is getting very annoying.

  • Audio and Video on the sme RSS feed

I'm trying to place audio and video podcasts (MP3 and MP4) on the same rss feed. The feed validates. When I do audio only, it works fine. When I add a video to the feed, only the video displays in iTunes.
Do I have to run two seperate feeds?
    Thanks

You can't play both the audio and the video simultaneously, you'll need to merge them.

  • Video podcasts - no audio only playback

    Hi,
I have the original iPhone and am a very active podcast user. Several of the podcasts I frequent are video format and it appears with the new 2.0 firmware the ability for audio only playback of video podcasts has been lost. It used to be that if you accessed a video podcast in iPod mode from More/Podcasts they would playback audio only. This was tremendously helpful as I often want to check email, surf Safari etc while listening to these podcasts. Now they will only playback in Video mode so if you navigate out of iPod mode to any other apps the podcast turns off. This was also helpful for saving battery life when walking around or unable to view the video.
Is everyone else using 2.0 firmware experiencing this? Does this sound like bug or lost feature?
Apple please fix/re-enable what was a great feature!
    I appreciate hearing from others.
    Thanks,
    Steve

It seems to be doing the same on mine. I also used this feature and loved it. What's worse is that you can't turn off the screen with the sleep button, as that turns off the podcast playback too. So it seems you must be playing the video in order to hear it (wasting battery if your phone is in your pocket).
I can only guess they removed it as people got confused over why their video podcast was playing back in audio only. Make it an option that we can choose at least, rather than reduce the functionality this way.
PS. While I'm complaining, why is there still no "Shuffle by Album" option...

  • How can I change a audio podcast into a video podcast?

    Hello,
I'm currently using the lastest version of iTunes and have successfully imported all my music, movies, home videos, books, etc. I'm having an issue with iTunes U and Podcasts. The reasons is because I don't actually use them for the real purpose. Instead, I keep home movies in one and sporting events in another. I don't want to mix them in with the movies, so I thought I found a nice work around. Since these movies are my own, nothing was purchased through iTunes. The problem I'm encountering is that some of the videos have been recognized as videos and some others as audio versions of Podcasts or iTunes U. They are all labeled in as either podcasts/itunes u in the media type field, but I can't seem to find any option to get them solely as Podcasts > Video or iTunes U > Video.
P.S. I also converted the files to Apple TV format, so file type shouldn't be the issue as they would all be the same. Can anyone shed some light? While they do transfer, the ones that show up in music only plays sound without the video.
    Thanks for any assistance!

I figured out a workout around for anyone who may run into a similar problem.
    1) Delete Files from iTunes
    2) Use MetaX and Open Files (Choosing "Movie" as the type)
    3) Save Change to Files
    4) Load Files into iTunes
    5) Change Media Type (it will stay as video even if podcast or itunes U is selected).

  • Video Podcast no longer plays audio

Within the last week, (Possibly the last update), I can no longer get audio to work on Video Podcasts.  No audio in iTunes or on iPhone for Video Podcasts.  However, Audio Podcasts play just fine and no other issues with Movies, etc.
