Audio  waveform image in timeline

Other than in the preferences, is there a shortcut for turning off the audio waveform in the timeline?

Create a button that you can place in the timeline.
or Press Option-Command-W.
or Choose Show Audio Waveforms from the Track Layout pop-up menu in the Timeline.

  • Why can't I see audio waveforms on my timeline?

    Hi,
I was just upgraded to CS6 Production Premium from CS5 and I can't see any audio waveforms on my timeline in Premiere Pro. Is there some setting I need to change?
    Thanks.
    S.

    There's no setting for this.
Have you waited for all media to finish conforming?

I can't see the Audio Waveforms in the timeline. No triangle button to click. Just switched from FCP. Help!

When I click on the wrench or right click to customize the box, these are the options I'm given.  I don't see waveform.  I've edited in Adobe Audition for years, and see the waveform panels in all the Premiere Pro tutorials, am I missing something?  (besides a brain?)

  • Can you 'zoom' the audio waveform in the timeline?

Unable to find a solution in the help or the FAQ, so I'll post my first question here :-)
I would like to vertically zoom into the audio waveform in the timeline. My situation is that I have a 24-bit audio mix of a classical concert with a fairly large dynamic range, i.e. very loud bits and very quiet bits in one single audio file. I don't see enough waveform detail in the quiet parts, even when I enlarge the track vertically. I haven't found an official way of zooming in, at least in the timeline. The audio-waveform-only display in the source monitor does offer a vertical zoom.
The official help only offers this:
"To see more volume detail when viewing an audio waveform in a Timeline panel, increase the track height."
Which seems to imply that 'zooming' in further to bring out the really quiet parts is not a feature.
I found a bit of a workaround, which is to adjust the clip gain -- the audio waveform changes accordingly. However I'd prefer not to be changing the audio volume every time I need a different vertical zoom on the waveform.
    Thanks,
    3p

While you can't zoom and the vertical adjustment is limited (which sucks because you can zoom in Audition)` there are still a few more options that might help increase the vertical size of the tracks window.
First, to adjust the vertical space of each track in the timeline place your selection tool over the line between the tracks over on the left side of the track where audio controls are and drag the track bottom up or down. You can also increase the workspace of the timeline by dragging it up using the same technique, or if you have another monitor put the timeline over there and make it much bigger.
Second, use the tilde key to expand the entire timeline window. It's the key to the left of #1 key at the top left. Hit it again to return. It will expand any window that is selected. I use this one to get a better look at the waveform. You can also drag the tracks to make them larger.
    good luck!

  • See only one (single channel) audio waveform in the timeline

Hi, is it possible to see only one waveform in the timeline for a stereo audio file? By default you see one waveform per channel. In many cases those channels are almost the same. I would like to see mixed or only channel in the timeline to save some space and remove clutter from my screen. Thanks

I don't think this is possible.

  • How can I make the audio waveform in the timeline come back?

    Hi all!
Please, excuse my -more than possible- nonnative spelling and grammatical errors beforehand.
For some days, I've been having this problem: the timeline of Premiere Pro CC won't display the audio waveform of the audios I use, no matter if it's music, video sound... It just shows a plain line, as if it was silence:
I wait till the project is fully charged and it never shows.
I'm used to synchronizing the camera audio with the clean audio using the waveform as guide, and even if it's not the only way, it the easiest for me.
I downloaded the latest version, hoping that this issue would be solved (or that whatever configuration I may have accidentally changed, would be reset), and the thing keeps happening. Maybe it's something simple, some option I couldn't find but it's there (I hope so!).
    Can someone help me?
    Thank you!

Wow, a lot of responses overnight (the time difference showed!).
Thanks everyone! Problem solved! =) As expected, it was just an option I didn't knew about. In my case, in was shooternz who nailed it. I just went to the wrench Icon > show waveform (don't know exactly the name in English, I use Premiere in Spanish) and voilà...  I feel dumb.. but happy it's solved nevertheless haha
Best luck solving your issue jonny9091!

  • I accidentally hit some button that made the audio waveforms in the timeline dissappear.

Even though I've selected "Show Audio Waveforms" in the toolbox, the waveforms do not appear.
Is there some other setting to make them re-appear?
    Thank you,
    Patrice

    Hi Patrice,
Did you accidentally minimize the audio tracks?
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • Audio Waveforms Not Showing In Timeline - Bug Report

When I send P2 Footage from Prelude to PP, the audio waveforms on the timeline do not show, even though the settings are correct. I have to close PP and then reopen it and then they show.  It is some sort of a bug.  I'm on Mac OS 10.9, latest version, fast computer. Anyone else having this issue?

There are three kind of audio tracks, stereo, mono and 5.1. Mono can only be placed in a mono track, stereo only in a stereo track and 5.1 only in a 5.1 track. By default a new sequence has three stereo tracks, so when you enter mono material, a new mono track is created in track 4.
In your case you probably have 6 audio tracks of one kind and the 'lost' one is another kind of track and that is the reason it ends up in track 7. You can of course delete empty audio tracks, which will cause track 7 to move up.

  • Showing audio waveforms in Timeline?

I am trying to access show audio waveforms in the timeline, so I can edit to music. I am checking the option in the user preferences, but it is not showing up on my audio. Am I missing something?

Or click the right pointing arrow (marked red) and choose Show Waveforms from the popup menu.

  • Audio Waveforms (On Certain Clips Only) Not Displaying

Long time forum-lurker, first time poster.
Here's the situation: The nighttime assistant editor created a sequence of B-roll clips for an editor. On both the editor's and the assistant editor's computer, the audio waveforms for these clips are not displaying correctly. Specifically, the symptoms (on both computers) are:
    - Waveforms do not appear in timeline unless zoomed in to maximum or second-to-maximum zoom. When zoomed out farther than that, the "X"es appear.
    - When viewing the clip in the viewer's audio tab, either by double-clicking the sequence clip or match-framing from the sequence, the waveforms do not appear at all until I zoom in to near maximum level. When zooming out after that, the remnants of the zoomed-in waveforms remain on the screen.
    - The waveforms of other clips display correctly.
I have tried deleting the waveform cache on both computers, changing the location of the waveform cache and restarting, and deleting the preferences on the editor's computer. I have not tried recreating the sequence from the original clips because the daytime assistant editor has more sequences to create and needs to use her computer.
If anyone can help me, that would be great.
    Here are the specs:
Assistant Editor's Computer: eMac running Final Cut Pro 5.0.1 and Mac OS 10.4.something (I haven't gotten a chance to run software update).
Editor's Computer: Dual Processor Power Mac G5 running Final Cut Pro 5.0.4 and Mac OS 10.4.8.
Both computers are sharing the same media which is located on our SAN. The Editor's computer (along with two other G5-based editing systems) is connected via FibreChannel. The Assistant Editor's computer (along with a whole bunch of other computers) is connected through our server, which serves the SAN drives as network volumes. Assistant editors create sequences on the eMac and upload the project file to the server, where they are available for the editors to download.
Power Mac G5 and eMac   Mac OS X (10.4)   SAN: Xserve RAID, CommandSoft FibreJet (not Xsan). Server: Xserve (Intel model)

Don't know what's going on, but tell us the format of
    the audio.
It's the audio track from a video clip. All video on this project is DV NTSC. The audio is 48.0 Khz, 16 bit, 2 mono channels.
    Also, try copying
one audio clip to a local drive and see if the
    problem persists.
Copied one of the offending clips onto the desktop. Dragged it into the project. Opened it in the viewer and hit the Audio tab. Whaddya know, the waveform appeared.
I cut a chunk of it into the sequence that is full of clips whose waveforms don't work and turned on "show audio waveforms". Waited for a long time and I still just got the Xes unless I zoomed in really close to the new sequence clip.
But then I cut a chunk of the newly copied clip into a brand new sequence, turned on audio waveforms in the timeline, and they showed up.
I don't know if any of this will help to solve my problem, but hopefully it will give someone an idea. I've got an editor who says he's used to editing from waveforms and needs the ability to see them. (Unfortunately, copying media to local drives is not a viable workaround. The media must stay on the SAN.)

  • Audio Waveform Just a Series of Dots

The audio waveform on the timeline appears like a series of tiny dots with the thinnest line going thru it. And this is with the track expanded. On the same computer my Premiere 6.5 Audio waveform is thick and easy to read. Any ideas?

Try streaching out the size of the audio track - making the track size bigger should increase the size of the waveform.

  • Dissapearing Audio Waveforms in Viewer

I am running Final Cut Pro 7.0, and I have seen some posts about this issue, but not with Final Cut 7, and it is really driving me mad.
Of late a bunch of my shots have lost their waveform in the viewer, though I can still see the audio waveform in the timeline, and it is random, with it happening to some clips and not others. There are even some clips where it goes in and out.
I have trashed my Prefs, and I have deleted the Audio Waveform Cache, to no avail. I have also fixed system prefs, and that did nothing.
Does anyone have any ideas how this can be fixed? I have had this crop up before, and have never found a solution, and this is driving me mad!

    Hi Jonah
Okay, I don't have a solution for you, sorry, but just wanted to let you know you are not the lone ranger. I have seen this problem before, but not since I upgraded to FCP 7. Also, I like you don't remember ever coming up with a solution short of accepting that my audio was somehow corrupted. It still worked just fine as I recall, but it just wasn't being displayed. I'll be curious to see what solutions you come up with and will sure let you know if I see this in FCP7.

  • Audio waveform refreshes display slowly on timeline (PrPro CS6)

    Is it just me.
I LOVE so many things about this new release. The one persistent, "always dealing with" issue I have is I have to wait for the audio waveform to refresh most times when I zoom in and out or even just scroll back and forth on the timeline. This is a huge slowdown/impediment issue for me.
    1. This never happened in previous versions
    2. This is not during indexing ... it's all the time
    3. It happens even when no effects are applied
    4. No, I do not have a slow workstation (CPU, mem, drives all optimal) ... remember, this never happend in previous versions
    5. I have preview files/cache and project/source video on different hard drives
    Anyone else experiencing this?

Since all their posts at the CreativeCow are completely lacking any useful information, it seems that OE (Operator Error) is the common denominator. OE in terms of using outdated drivers, lacking hardware, incorrect setup, background processes, improper configuration, and name all the other OE's one can think of.
There are many issues which are in CS6 and they are not Operator Error. My computer exceeds the minimum requirements of Premiere Pro and still have the same issue. On the other hand I have reinstalled several times but can't get Encore DVD menus, and also the title templates is buggy because I can't access the wedding templates. Supporting the application will not yield any further development to correct these issues. The bottom line was that CS6 was a rushed release since Adobe are giving themselves less time to develop the next version as compared to what they used to do. In less than 9 months they will be releasing 6.5 with fixes to all these issues and we will be forced to pay for the upgrade again becuase there will be no support for 6?? I think Harm get the upgrade for free so that you can continue to support Adobe, even if the software is messed up you will simply turn a blind eye. You should test this on an average system most users use not on your monster!!
