Audio won't play on top of video

I have shot a simple interview style video and edited it in FCP. I created a simple acoustic guitar loop to play in the background using Garage Band and made it into an .aif format.
I've dropped the file into FCP, but for some reason the audio won't come out for the loop. I still have audio from the video, but the loop doesn't come through. When I watch the audio meter as the video is playing, I can see it responding during silence as if the loop actually is actually playing, but it's not coming out. (I've even listened with headphones to ensure this.) I have turned off the audio from the movie, played the video, and I still SEE the audio for the loop playing, but it isn't coming out of the speakers. I've tried renduring, and still the loop doesn't come through. I have ensured that my Audio rate from my file matches the audio rate from my sequence presets. I've tried changing my audio outputs from all stereo to all mono, to 2 stereo and 2 mono, and I still can't get the audio to for my loop.
Could someone help me out with this?

I know, it's shocking that no one has responded to this.
Anyway, No, I haven't created a new project, but it wouldn't matter because it would have the same settings as my original project. It's interesting to note that only the top two audio tracks will come through, and it's like anything below that will just simply not come out, even though the audio meter still registers the sound from the loop. (I've muted the sound from my video to ensure that it wasn't just background or room noise I was picking up.)
The track I created doesn't show a need to render, but you are correct in that I already checked this. I did, however, take another look at all of my audio clips and the sound of my video is apparently in a mono format as well as my sound loop. (Not sure HOW those became mono, but nothing a simple remixing won't fix.) Anyway, seeing that all of my sound files were mono, I went into my settings and changed all of my audio outputs to mono. So I even have 8 -That's right, count 'em... 8 - mono channels for sound and the loop STILL wouldn't come through.
I swear, sometimes this program makes me want to cus.

  • Audio won't play after replacing the video clip with after effects composition?

I am using CS5.  Still new to this stuff so let me know if you need extra info. None of the faq guides have been helpful.

The audio is still in the project, but won't play in the canvas... this was solved by Richardttt... see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1491870&tstart=0
I tried this and it works but still don't know why it happened: Under Object Menu, select Unsolo>Video Only.

  • Premiere Elements 4 audio won't play on mp4 files, codecs missing/unavailable on .mov files

I dowlnloaded Premiere Elements 4, and when I import mp4 files, the video plays but the audio will not. I've also tried to import .mov files, and an error message pops up that says "Codec missing or unavailable." I downloaded the latest version of Quicktime, but that didn't change anything. The files will play back on the video camera, but I"m having trouble with them on my computer. The audio on the mp4 files plays in Quicktime, but not the video, and vice versa when I import them into Elements. Any suggestions?

Does Quicktime Pro also edit .mov files on a PC?

Premiere Elements 4 pretty much works with tape-based digital video. That would be video from a miniDV or HDV tape-based camcorder. It doesn't handle other formats very well.
If you plan to edit MP4s, you definitely want to upgrade to a more current version of the program. If you can't install a current version of the program, you may need to address issues on your computer (such as an outdated operating system or underpowered hardware configuration).
Short of that, you could buy Quicktime Pro from Apple for $29. It will edit MP4s, even on a PC platform.

  • Help!! AVI audio won't play - Premiere Pro v.7

    Hi!
I captured footage from my DV camera into Windows Movie Maker in the form of a DV-avi. (I use WMM because Premiere crashes when I try to capture DV video). And when I import the AVI into Premiere Pro v.7 the audio won't play in the project window. However, when I scrub the slider back and forth the audio does play (kind of).
I have never had this problem before. I've captured video many times and this never happened.
I tried re-capturing it 6 times, but still the audio doesn't play (except when I scrub).
Is there an option I clicked accidentally?
Any help would be really great.
    Thanks a lot!

You might Google for a converter
You might also use the free http://www.headbands.com/gspot to find out the file details, and report back so someone may be able to help
I installed that program. Very helpful and interesting. Thanks for the link.
I assumed, like you, that I had simply captured the AVI files as Type 1. But I guess they are Type 2, after all.
I don't know if this helps, but the AVIs play just fine in Quicktime, Windows Media Player, WMM and Winamp.

  • Hype widget; audio won't play when previewing on iPad

    Hi,
I've come across a strange 'bug' in iBooks Author. Hope someone can help.
    I made a widget using Tumult's Hype software. It has multiple scenes, audio and animated text. When previewing the widget in Hype everything works fine. But here comes the strange part;
When I insert the hype widget in an empty iBooksAuthor book the animation and audio works fine when previewing on my iPad2. But when i insert the widget in my iBook, wich has already ten pages filled with text, reviews, etc., the animation work, but the audio won't play when previewing on my iPad.
People from Tumult helped me, but were not able to fix this.
So in an empty book the widget from Hype works fine, but when inserting the widget in a book that has some pages the audio won't play! How can i fix this?
    Thanks for the support!

  • Some flash video/audio won't play

Hello, I'm using 10.6.7 and the lastest Flash plugin.
I've troubles with playback some flash video and audio in all browsers: Safari, Firefox 4, Chrome.
For example, Soundcloud.com works fine, but as a widget on other web-sites it doesn't work. Youtube and Vimeo — perfect, but BBC's videos won't play (ex., http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-13054205).
    Any ideas?

Your link works fine for me in Safari.
Check your "extensions" (browser add ons) for your browsers. Some may conflict.

  • Audio won't play on slides containing Flash video

I've wasted pretty much a whole day on this issue, and it's
driving me crazy. I have a presentation that includes 2 flash
videos (screen demos). When I publish the presentation to our
company's web server, the audio for those 2 slides won't play, the
rest of the presentation works fine. If I publish to my hard drive,
    the audio plays fine.

The audio for the FLV and the slide should be playing at the
same time (unless you put a delay on the video). To verify, in
Presenter, go to the slide that you are having issues with, select
Edit Video. At the bottom you should see the effects options. Tell
the video to start after the audio. Republish and see if your auido
is there, but was some how drowned out by the FLV. If that was the
case you may just need to boost the volume of your audio to be
louder than the video, but that may cause it to sound like noise.
As a final option, try putting the FLV on a slide following
the problem slide. This will disassociate any relationship between
the audio on your slide and the FLV,

  • Video and audio won't play in Itunes...just a gray screen

i put my digital copy of the hangover on itunes but it won't play. it says it is playing but it's a gray screen and no audio. whats wrong??? it plays on my ipod touch fine though.

There is an issue with the latest iTunes version that is causing downloaded movies/songs from not playing on your computer, but should work on your iPod. Until Apple releases an update that'll fix this, this problem will probably not go away.

  • Audio won't play after audio render

I have an MP3 on audio track 1 in Premiere/CS4, placed underneath video clips which I've unlinked from the audio and deleted/cleared those unlinked audio files.  The MP3 file plays fine until I render the timeline and then it stops playing.  If I 'double click' the file (placing it back in the source window) it plays fine there, but won't play in the timeline.  I've included the file properties below.  Does anyone have any idea why this is happening and what I can do to fix the problem?
    Type: MP3 Audio
    File Size: 4.2 MB
Source Audio Format: 44100 Hz - compressed - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 44100 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
    Total Duration: 00:03:03:32868
Average Data Rate: 23 KB / second

I could do a MP3 to WAV conversion, but that defeats the
purpose of storing my (growing) music library in MP3 for space conservation.
I understand the space problem. Only do this for files that you are using as Assets, Imported into PrPro, if they give you a problem.
Seems I'm finding I have to do a lot of 'work arounds' with CS4.
Well, it does seem that you are not alone on this one. However, my problem came with PrPro 2.0. In my case, it only happened once, but did affect about a dozen Audio files in several Sequences. Did not realize the magnitude of my issue, and only observed it after a busy day of trying to Keyframe some Effects and doing multiple Renders to check things out. One moment all Audio in that section was playing well - next moment (after one more Render) dead. Others, who replied to my thread indicated that it had happened to them too, in similar circumstances. Trouble was, none of us could duplicate it and some had this happen on their first Render, while I'd probably done a dozen that morning. Have never had it happen again, and finished that Project with hundreds more Renders, just like I'd done, with not one problem. I certainly can not call it a Bug, as there was no way for anyone to reproduce it. Still, whatever allows it to happen, under the right (or wrong) circumstances seems to be around two generations later. Hey, phases of the Moon?
Good luck, and let's hope that neither of us sees this behavior again,

  • Audio won't play on MPEG files from camera?

I'm having issues with my new video camera. I want to use my final cut express to edit the videos, but the audio on the video files won't play. The videos play just fine, just no sound. I've turned the volume all the way up on my mac, but still nothing.
Any suggestions to make the audio work?
(I'm not the most familiar with computers, so simple/specific instructions would be best)

You have to separate out the audio and video tracks (referred to as "demuxing") of an MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 file before you import it into FCE. Try MPEG StreamClip to convert the MPEG files into an editing format (DV Stream, for instance). If your camera outputs MPEG-2, you'll also need the MPEG-2 Playback Component.
    Hope this helps.

  • Final Cut Pro Audio won't play

I am making a slideshow with final cut, and every now and then I run into a song that won't play audio. I looked at the audio levels on the clip and they just aren't there. The music will go into final cut from itunes, but the actual audio isn't there. It works well when I play the song (in Itunes, or out of the final cut music and sound menu), but not when it is in the video. This only happens for a few songs though, any help??????

    Hi Druw77
I have had that for months and months , I have found now a quick way to get around it, but it's not a solution is to press cmd f12 at the same time and then hit render again. I should get you around the problem for awhile but I suspect you need to reboot the software as i have done on many occasions!
Sorry no one has helped me with the solution has yet and seems to be a problem with a few editors I know as well.

  • Audio won't play when I'm skimming through clips on iMovie

The audio of the clips I have on iMovie won't play when I'm skimming through them, but will play when I play the clips. I made sure the volume of every clip and on the computer works (it does) but this is getting really annoying. Can anyone please help me out?

To Reboot your computer, select /Shutdown... from the top menu. Wait a few seconds, then turn your computer back on with the on switch.
You don't really have to know what a swapfile is, but here is a simplified explanation.
Your computer comes with a processor (Intel 2.8 ghz in my case), memory (2GB in my case), and a hard drive (500GB in my case).
The processor is very fast. The memory holds the instructions and the data that the processor will work on next. Long term storage is kept on the hard drive, which is slower. Think of the following metaphor: You are sitting at a desk. You are the processor. Your desktop is the memory, which contains the stuff you are ready to act on. Stuff you have already acted on, or will not need until later, is in the drawers or in a file cabinet (the hard drive).
Let's say you are working in several applications at once: iMovie, Microsoft Word, iTunes, Calendar, and Safari. Each of these programs needs some of your memory to function, and to get stuff to the processor for action. If you add all the memory requirements up, it may be more than the 2GB of "real" memory that you have. Fortunately, OSX lets you use virtual memory, so your programs can pretend they have as much memory as they need. Your programs can address memory as if they had a whole bunch of memory all to themselves.
This is done through swapfiles. When there is more virtual memory than real memory, the programs and data that have been used least recently are swapped out to hard disk in a swapfile. This file is not the permanent storage. It is the temporary parking place for memory when the real memory is being used by another application.
So lets say you want to use iMovie. It might take up 1GB out of your 2GB. There is not room, so OSX looks around and sees that you haven't used iTunes in a while. So the itunes instructions and music about to be played is swapped our to a swapfile on the harddisk.
If you decide you want to listen to iTUnes, you will have to wait a few seconds as iTunes is swapped back in to real memory, and something else is swapped out.
This is a simple case. It can get more complicated.
But, as you run more and more programs, the real memory gets used up and there might be seven or eight swapfiles out on disk. At some point, OSX gets sluggish and has a hard time dealing with this. For example, if two large swapfiles needed to be paged in at the same time, there might not be room. Also, the real memory can get fragmented, and have open space, but the open space is not big enough to swap something in.
I run a free utility called Memory Stick that shows me how many swapfiles I currently have. If I am working on something critical in iMovie, and I notice that I have a lot of swapfiles, I will usually just reboot and start over with 1 swapfile. In doing this, I hope to avoid the spinning beach ball that happens when OSX can't handle it any more.
You don't really need to know this. OSX handles it for you. But understanding how it works can help you self-diagnose some problems from time to time.

  • Exported MPEG2 Audio Won't Play in Quicktime - is there a workaround?

Just completed my first video edit in Premiere Elements.   Working with 720p HD footage from a Sony Cybershot.    Tried various preset outputs, HD 720p 25, among others.   In all cases, picture looked good but audio did not play back.   Just discovered after some searching that Quicktime will not playback MPEG2 audio without a $20 add on.  That's not going to break my bank, but do I really need it?   Is there a workaround for this?   Can I export in Dolby Digital?   My goal is simply to have a finished project that is the most universally playable as possible.  Will eventually archive on tape and DVD.   Obviously, want to maintain the best sound as possible.

Instead of using Apple's QuickTime Player, I would suggest looking into another player, such as VLC Player, or MediaPlayer Classic HC, both of which are free, and both of which have a very full set of CODEC's included in them.
For the best possible Audio, it would be best to choose PCM/WAV as the Audio CODEC. This is almost totally universal, and unlike all MPEG Audio (including AC3), is uncompressed. The file will be a bit larger (Audio does not take up as much space, as does the Video), but should give better quality, and not require additional CODEC's for users to play the file w/ Audio. This might not be an option in all possible Export/Share schemes.
For either PCM/WAV, or AC3 Audio, this will be set from the Audio Tab in the Export/Share settings. Remember setting the Encoding for the Audio might not be available in all formats, so just check that Audio Tab in the settings dialog screen (usually under Advanced).
As for DD Audio, you can set the Audio Encoding to AC3, wich is Dolby Digital, but that option might not be available with all possible Export/Share formats, so it gets down to an "it depends." This will be stereo (2-channel) Audio.
PrE cannot Encode to DD 5.1 SS (6-channel), as it lacks that Encoder. Even PrPro needs the Minnetonka Audio SurCode Encoder plug-in (US$300 option) to do DD 5.1 SS Export.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • VO Audio Won't Play

I've just downloaded v10.2 and I can't get my VO audio to play.  I have several clips in the project, and I hear their audio just fine with any of the video clips.  But I've recorded several VO audio pieces and I hear no audio for them, skimming or playing back in the timeline.  The clips show plenty of waveform in the clips view, but nothing gets them to play.  I've checked their properties, played with the pan mode, with the channel configuration, nothing.  They show up as mono by default (that's right), but nothing I do to play with them works at all.
Running a Mac Pro (late 2013) using 10.10.3/
    Help?

"Do you have any other devices connected to the computer?"  Seriously?  No, it's just a stand alone trash can, no monitors, no keyboard, no trackpad, no CD-Rom drive, no ethernet cable, no speakers, nothing.  Just a bare box...
As I noted above, the issue is that when the VO box is set to Input -> System Setting, I get nothing -- with the waveforms displaying content (shouldn't they be empty?).  Even though when I use this same setup, same devices in QT or in Garage Band, it records just fine.  And those clips can be brought into FCPX and they work.
I have found the correct setting for that Input selector -- to select the input device explicitly -- I have it working.  Still seems like a bug that settings that work in every other program do not work in FCPX.
