Audio Working but No Visual
I have multiple movies on my mac all saved as .avi and when i open them to watch in quicktime the audio works perfectly but I get no picture, just a black screen. Help me!
Welcome to the forums!
Download and install Perian from http://perian.org/
You should read this support page http://perian.org/#support in case you need to delete older codecs. In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/

PC is showing realtk high definition audio working but not showing not plugged in
computer is a hp pavillion a6763w desktop PC.
i had installed a ati video card and all worked perfectly for a while after updating the drivers for it my onboard sound went out. the sound would play through the hdmi output but no other output. i uninstalled video card and drivers and reverted back to old drivers. did a restore point. reset the bios to enable onboard sound. reinstalled drivers for onboard sound. tried installing a sound card and it was not recognized by the computer. but still PC is showing realtk high definition audio working but nothing plugged in when it is. also i have tries several different devices being plugged in and none of them worked.Hi,
When installing a discreet sound card, you should disable on board audio.
With HDMI, you have to chose speakers or HDMI but not both. It's one or the other.
What ATI video card are you using and did you upgrade your power supply?
Did you go to www.realtek.com and download the latest audio drivers when using the on board audio?

Audio works but video is solid green
The audio works but all videos are solid green
Green screens are nearly ALWAYS an indicator of outdated or corrupted video drivers. See: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/945765

My audio works but not the video
My audio will work but when I want to watch any video on any different app the video doesn't work.why?
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

IChat Screen Sharing: Audio works but video is a white screen.
I am having a problem using iChat screen sharing with a specific computer. We are both running OS 10.7.4. I have a Mac Book Pro (fall 2011) and he has a iMac one to two years old. We have tried contacting apple support but no luck yet. We tried setting up a test user to see if the problem was user specific but encountered the same problem. Again, video and text chat work fine. He can share my screen with no issues. Only when I ask to share his screen do I get a blank white screen. Audio works and I can manipulate his curser but all I have is a white screen. I have tried changing the resolution on his iMac but this has not helped. Also we are both using Google Talk as the chat server.
Hi,
Historically iChat Updates came in OS updates.
Not every OS update had an iChat update but that was the way they were delivered.
Only twice during the lifetime of iChat 3 have there ever been standalone Updates outside of this.
Most Updates are now through the App Store but Software Update can still be used (I have mine set on Daily despite Apple's Updates normally coming on Tuesdays)
One person stated he thought there had been a change with OS 10.8.1 saying the Build number of Messages had changed.
In my experience it has not and when Apple do update something the build Number and Version number change.
It is widely know that Apple send Developers and others advance copies of the OS to try out.
Those people sign NDAs (Non Disclosure Agreements) so you will not see any discussion of any up and coming stuff on this site.

I have audio working, but not the microphone on my toshiba satellite
Hi there, I'm a newbie to the arch way, but I'm not a newbie to linux, however I'm pretty stumped with this one (I'm not used to having to look after everything, but I'm loving it!) I have a Toshiba Satellite C650D-10W, and it has a very annoying soundcard built into it. I have the sound working, thankfully, however I cannot get the inbuilt mic to function. Some info here:

looks like we've got the same chipset.
one stupid pdf-file found on hp.com sais that the codec is ADI 1984AJCPZ High Definition CODEC, but I can't be sure...
i tried different model= parameters to snd-hda-intel module, but nothin helps
i can capture external jack-in microphone only if external jack-out is free (which is completely stupid for home audio studio experiencing)
internal phones are not mute automatically until jack-in freed (but i can easily mute them in alsamixer instead)
if anyone find a workaround or anything useful, please report here or use my contacts -
Why is youtube audio working but not video?
Youtube worked well 2 days ago but since then only the audio has been working with a blacked out background....I haven't changed anything just updated software in App Store... any suggestions?
First to do is to uninstall all previous versions of flash player by using Flash Player Uninstaller.
After you update directly from Adobe Flash Player Software website, repair permissions and restart your computer. -
Audio working but not the video?
I have iChat AV 3.1.8 (v445)
And OSX (10.4.11)
I am trying to connect to a user using AIM, and the video connection is establishing but it wont show the video, only the audio.
Things I think you would need to know.
Using Wi-Fi connection.
The other user does not have a camera attached.
Have my restriction set to 200.
Using Comcast.
Now when the user connects their camera I get a error message saying "There was a communication error during your chat" with a send to Apple option.I've been having this problem since upgrading to leopard. On my iMac with Tiger i could video chat with AIM users in a one way chat without any problems. Upgraded to leopard and all they have is a black screen, but the audio is coming through. The only thing that was changed was the OS Version.
I am also having the same exact problem on my new MacBook, which came with leopard installed.
On a side note, i can nolonger video chat with Tiger users, but everything seems to be fine with other Leopard users.
Seems like there are a lot of these problems going around. Any idea on an ETA for a fix? -
Video and Audio work but not screen share
I am able to connect and video chat with a mb running 10.5.4.
When I request screen share, they authorize, seems to start to connect then I get the message "screen sharing could not be established."
Is this a port issue?
Thanks in advance!Oh My !! You are doing things the difficult way.
Hopefully you have got both ends set in System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming to 1.5Mbps
(if you have to change iChat will need restarting).
In the iChat Menu >Preferences > Video Section > Bandwidth drop down both ends need to be on 500kbps to get around what Comcast and Road Runner do to manage their Data Stream. This can be set in a chat. The two ISP s do things to try and stop people using File Sharing apps like BitTorrent but it impinges on iChat.
The reason why I say it is a port issue.
I run an App called Little Snitch.
It tells me the ports and the IPs applications are connecting to.
In a successful Video chats I see port 16402 on people's Public IP and if they have a Router a LAN IP as well.
When in a Screen Share situation I also get another port.
Screen Sharing in iChat iss related to the way it is/was done in Apple Remote Desktop (ARD).
in fact in the iChatAgent .plist you can see the Setting
(It is in fact Off in this Pic)
Apple Remote Desktop uses port 5900 and 5988.
However, Little Snitch reports to me a fairly random port when I use it and shows a number in the 50000 range.
I use UPnP in my combined Modem/router which seems to cope with this random port.
UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) allows any port the App wants to open to be open - control is with the App.
This Doc by Apple tells you the ports to open if Port Forwarding for iChat 3
It includes the Bonjour ones, the Jabber ones the AIM ones and the A/V ones.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1507?viewlocale=en_US
This second Doc by Apple is about the port changes to iChat 4
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2282?viewlocale=en_US
This one only tells you about the A/V ports and not the other you need.
AS it is short on info that is known about it stands to reason the info on Screen Sharing ports is also missing.
This link is about the Linksys WRT54GS
http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Linksys/WRT54GS/iChat.htm
Near the top of the page is the Info to use in a web browser to access the set up pages.
Follow the Instructions to to access the device and set the Unblocking of Anonymous Pings in the Security page.
Stop following the Instructions and go to the Administration page.
In here you will find UPnP.
This should be Enabled (Save Settings if you need to)
You will see in the rest of the Instructions that Port Forwarding is in Applications and Gaming as a sub tab. If anything is set here it will need to be Disabled.
As will anything in Port Triggering and DMZ tabs.
The Linksys WCG200
I can not see the one with cc at the end on the Port Forward.com list so I have picked version 2
http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Linksys/WCG200v2/iChat.ht m
You can see the pics are similar.
Although it does not say, also disable the Block to Responses to Internet Pings on the Security page (as well as having the Firewall Off).
Then do the same as above. Enable UPnP and Save Settings - Disable anything in Applications and Gaming and again save settings.
As I said before UPnP will allow the apps to open the ports they need and will therefore cope with the fact we don't know the precise port iChat is supposed to use.
Out of the Box list.
Apple have a list that was started at iChat 2
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1787?viewlocale=en_US
Although the Doc was updated in June this was only for the new numbering system.
You will notice under the table that some still need tweaks.
Realistically most devices will need some tweaks and turning on UPnP can be the smallest.
Most Netgears have UPnP on by default.
However they have the Internet Ping Blocking and they have a DOS or SPI firewall that can impinge on iChat 4 as all the data is on one port and Faster internet speeds mean more data can be sent bumping into the threshold that these work (And get in the way).
MIMO devices that tend to come with two or more antenna are a problem for iChat as the Wireless signal is effectively duplicated and iChat see this as two network connections and can not use them - if you are thinking of being wireless.

Youtube seems to load multiple times, audio works, no video
Youtube works on IE. In Firefox it seems to load multiple copies. The time bar at the bottom has many segments. The audio works, but no video. I disabled Flashblock, does not help.
I have the same problem, with vista, on an intel iMac.
I tried uninstalling the driver, restarting, and then bootcamp automatically reinstalls the driver, but that didn't fix it. The driver is there and everything appears to be as it should but just no sound comes out unless I set headphones to the default, in which case the audio is way too quiet.
I'm trying to repair my bootcamp install from my leopard disk but I got an error code 2727 and couldn't even attempt to try fixing the issue that way.
It's so annoying, because I'm trying to play starcraft ii, which is impossible macside because mac os insists upon having ridiculous mouse acceleration. I managed campaign macside but now it's time for some serious competitive play and I just need to do this on windows, but no sound. -
Getting HDMI audio working (ASUS P5E-VM HDMI mATX)
Hey everyone. So I'm trying to create a HTPC using this ASUS P5E-VM HDMI mATX motherboard with a 3.0 GHz E8400 Core 2 Duo and 4GB RAM. I've installed Arch 64-bit on it and have full 1080p video showing nicely on my HD TV with Gnome set up quite nicely. I've gone through the Wiki for the documentation for getting ALSA working but I cannot get any audio working. I have 3 outputs on this board, the line-out on the back, the headphones on the front and the HDMI audio on the back.
I admit I am an ALSA/Linux Audio newb but it seems like everything is set up properly comparing it to the Wiki document. I get very faint audio from the headphones but nothing else. I'd really like to get the HDMI audio working but I am completely and totally lost as to what to do. I don't even know what devices and modules I should be looking for. I'm pretty sure the sound chipset is Intel HDA Audio. Although, under Vista it comes back as Realtek audio controller.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! While searching for the solution myself I stumbled over this rather old thread and having found the solution it might be interesting for someone out there :-)
HDMI audio is working fine with the Asus P5E-V, the problem is that the IEC958 device has to be unmuted on the command line (since it is not showing in any mixer):
(1)amixer --card 0 |grep 958
Then unmute the devices (in my case to unmute "'IEC958',1" was sufficient):
(2)amixer --card 0 sset 'IEC958',0 unmute
(3)amixer --card 0 sset 'IEC958',1 unmute
(4)amixer --card 0 sset 'IEC958 Default PCM',0 unmute -

Macbook pro to HDTV, video is working but audio is not working, how to make audio work as well
If you use an HDMI cable, the audiostream will be integrated, so there will be sound when using an HDMI cable!
Not necessarily. That only works as stated if you have one of the most recent MBP's that has a built-in HDMI port.
If the MBP only has a Thunderbolt or miniDisplayPort, you need an appropriate adapter cable and even if you use an HDMI adapter or cable to connect to your HDTV there is no guarantee it will carry audio. You have to determine if your specific MBP model supports audio out through its miniDisplayPort or Thunderbolt output, and whether the adapter does likewise. -
Looking for a reading App.
iPad (iOS 7.1.2) - Kindle.
I am looking for a good app that can help a college student with reading books that cannot be found on audio book. I have tried voice over and it works but it's very monotone and it really strings things together.
- I'm willing to pay for a good app but I can't seem to sort though the many that are out there. Any suggestions.Ah. I'm surprised, but there we go.
Have a look here ...

Didn't have time to do more than skim, but 'Ardour' looked promising. Protools is the only one I've used, the full product is one of the industry standards, but the free 'lite' version listed here seems to be limited to 2 in/out as well.
Referring to your original post, I'd think trying to write or 'script' something would be a nightmare ... synchronisation of streams within something like Applescript would be a major issue, quite apart from anything else.

I want to use a FM radio app to Airplay music through my Apple TV (by using the synchronizing function). Works, but after some minutes, the Airplay audio output setting switches back to iPad. Why? Solution?
Why don't use iTunes? Because this just needs to many handling in order to get it where i want it (in general, this whole idea of doing everything online just works likes... ). An app is easier (that's why it is invented).Hey AKfishgirl,
Thanks for the question. The common variable here is your Wi-Fi router. Let’s check to see if the commonly used ports are being blocked by a firewall on your router:
