Audiobook Bookmarks

Audiobooks are supposed to remember where you left off when you return to them. This seems to work most of the time for me. But there are still some times that I return to an audiobook and it starts at the beginning instead. Is this a known issue with ipods in general or maybe just a bug in the ipod nano?

Same problem here. Is there no way to bookmark mp3's on an Ipod Nano?

  • Problems with audiobook bookmark?

Anyone else having problems with audiobook bookmarks? I'm listening to an audiobook and whenever I turn off the ipod (hold the top button for 3-4 seconds and slide to shut off) it would loose my place when I turn it back on again.
It seems to happen to my other audiobooks also. I think this is a bug?!

I have the same problem. The only "solution" I found so far is to first play another audiobook. As soon as that other audiobook resets and starts from the beginning it is save to change to the audiobook I want to listen. This audiobook then remembers were I last paused, plays from the correct time on and keeps playing. If I don't choose another audiobook first, the desired audiobook plays for 1-3 seconds and then resets to start from the beginning.
Very annoying. I use audiobook builder to build all my audiobooks. Is there anybody out there using audiobook builder that doesn't have that problem? In other words, is this a problem of the iPod touch or audiobook builder?

  • Audiobook bookmark reset after playing music

Does anyone else have this problem? My iPod (5G 30gb) plays audiobooks just fine, except when I play music and return to a bookmarked audiobook. At that point, it will play the audiobook for about 10 seconds then return to the main menu. When I try to load the same audiobook, it loses its bookmark and starts from the beginning.
I've reset the iPod, restored the software ... basically did all the usual diagnostics, but it doesn't seem to resolve it.
I did a google search and found another user who has the same problem. Has anyone else encountered this bug?
    Thanks for your help!
    Sincerely,
    Ernest

No, the option is already selected. It's not that the iPod isn't able to remember the position, it's just that it blanks out after switching from music to an audiobook (in particular, audiobooks of large sizes [over 150mb]).
This is not an issue with smaller audiobooks. It just seems to happen on the larger ones. I suspected that it might be a bug with the buffering optimization, but I thought I would see if anyone else has this problem.

  • How to work audiobooks + bookmark

    Hey!
I've recently got an audiobook (.m4b) for my iPod mini. So far i've listened for about 3 hours (8h total) without any serious problems. But yesterday when i was out walking the dog, listening to the audiobook my battery went dead. Today when I started to listen to the audibook my bookmark had not been saved from yesterday?
I tried to skip one chapter forward, my iPod then froze and some VERY LOUD jitter/glitches came in my headphones (seemed like the iPod was trying to make me deaf?). Then the iPod restarted.
When I started the audiobook again there were no bookmark at all. And when I try to skip a couple of chapters foreward the same thing happens all over again. Then I tried to "scobble" about 3 hours forward. It seemed to work at first, but after a few seconds the iPod crashed again....
I tried to skip a couple of chapters forward in another audiobook of mine, but she same thing happend again. It this a known bug? What can I do about this? I dont wanna start from the beginning again...
    Please help me
    Best regards
    Johan

Am I the only one experiencing this?

  • Audiobooks & bookmarking

Added audiobook to music folder, can you use bookmarks to keep track of where you are?

you can change the 'media kind' to either an audiobook or a podcast. right click the track in itunes, go to get info, then options.
you also need to set the 'remember playback position' option here.
as far as i'm aware there is no way to bookmark them. but the remember playback position will mean the next time you go back to it it will be at the same point.
you can delete podcasts directly on the touch by swiping your finger over the title. a delete button will appear.

  • Multiple audiobook bookmarks

Is it possible to set multiple bookmarks in one audiobook so that two people can listen to the same book and pick up where they each left off? If so, how is it done?

This sounds like a good idea for some people.
One way I can think of it working would be to Mod the iPod to have a user interface whereby you 'log in' as a user (just click a name with the click-wheel) then carry on with the bookmark and audiobook, so it saves the position for each user. I don't know if that would be possible on an iPod/portable device like that.
This link talks a little about it not happening - please scroll down to the message posted by "Fofer".

  • Audiobook Bookmarks that Drop

    5G (Video) iPod
You listen to a bookmarkable-audiobook. You stop listening and put the iPod away. Later, You return to listening to the book. Within 5 minutes, the sound stops and the iPod display has reverted to the top-most menu screen. When you navigate back to the audiobook, the bookmark has been cleared and it starts at the beginning.
I have found a workaround. If, after stopping the audiobook, you go to another track (track type does not matter) and play a few seconds of it, when you return to the audiobook later, the bookmark is retained.
    Anyone else seen this ?
Is this a bug or an undocumented feature ?

I've owned a 1st, 3rd, and now a 5th generation iPod, and they all have had this bug.
For me, it happens with m4b files I've created, as well as Audible audiobooks. The one thing that hasn't been affected by this bug is are bookmarkable m4a files created by Audio Hijack Pro (apparently they set the file type to be bookmarkable even though they're m4a files). But these have been relatively short (under one hour), while all the files I've seen this problem with have been well over an hour. Not sure if they're set up in a way that they don't have this bug, or if they're just too short to show the bug.

  • How to recover audiobook bookmarks after upgrade to iOS 7?

I just upgraded my iPhone 5 to iOS 7 and here's one of the issues that this brought up:
I used to listen to audiobooks in the built-in Music app and the app would show the bookmarks or a time-code where I left off listening to my audiobooks and begin playing from that same spot even if I switched to listen to something else in the meantime. I'm concerned now because after this upgrade it doesn't show my bookmarks anymore.
How do I get them back?

Had you backed up the phone via iTunes or iCloud? If so, the backup includes audio book bookmark in the iCloud and you will be able to restore that backup to a replacement iPhone.
If you had been syncing your phone to back it up, you can use 3rd party software like iPhone Bookmark Recovery to try to recover some of your data from your backup.  However, if your audio books are not fully included in the backup (they are only backed up as necessary to maintain call favorites and recent call lists).  This article will show what's included in the backup: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946.

  • Zen Vision 30 Gb Audiobook Bookmarking and Resume Questions/Probl

Hi and thanks to everyone in advance for your responses.
I have spent some time searching the message board concerning my situation, which I will explain in a minute, but first I wanted to let everyone know that I have tried to do some research, but I am interested in the way in which these problems apply to my situation, and if anyone has suggestions or fixes. (Whew! quite a runon)
I spent a significant amount of time (~ 2 years) saving for a MP3 player, and after much debate decided that the most important feature was the ability to bookmark audio books. I have a 30 minute dri've to work, and have access to large amount of audio books and lectures in my profession. I therefore like to listen, depending on my mood to ) my music, 2) one of my audio books, or 3) one of the many audio lectures I have in my collection. Some times I may go for a week and stay with one thing, or I may switch things around and listen to one thing in the morning and a different thing in the evening. Since most of my time I am in my car when I listen, I had considered buying a MP3 capable CD player only, but Creative assured me that their product would meet all of my needs, and be portable.
The first part of my experience was just a promised. It was summer and I was also in the yard a lot, so I used the player constantly as a book and loved it. As my schedule has increased and as fall has approached I am now doing what I had initially intended and listen mainly in my car. So as you can imagine here is what happens:
)? I get in the car in the morning and turn on the player.........player loads...........and starts at the last track I was currently listening to. Except that I listen to audio books, and depending on the books some have 6 minute tracks and others have 45-50 minute tracks. As some of you know the track has reset. I now have to start fast forwarding through the track to find my previous spot. I know what some of you are thinking. You bought this player for the bookmarking feature that you spent considerable time talking with creative reps on the phone about and if you use that then you won?t have this problem. (Hold your horses; I will get to that in a sec.)? So you can really imagine my frustration when I get to work....come back after working 9-2 hours and turn on my player to discover....you guessed it. Player remembers the track but not the spot. So repeat the process above OR....
2)? Well as we all know, the main reason I was told that other players such as an Ipod and many other brands would not meet my need was because what I needed was a bookmarking feature. So let's run thru this scenario. Now in the morning I get in my car and find that the track has reset. I have "hot keyed" my short cut button for bookmark feature so that in a short click I can now reach my books that I have saved. I can now choose:? last listened to ) music? 2) chapter in book 3) lecture. This is great
!!! So let's start with the 45 minute chapter in a book. I restart in the chapter I was in (approximately 20 minutes into the chapter) and begin driving. Now in the middle of rush hour traffic 5-0 minutes from work I reach the end of the chapter and BOOM. Track dies and I am enjoying the sweet sound of silence. I can now just enjoy the relaxing silence until I get to work, or I can pick up my player and go back through my "now playing" tab to find the playlist, then locate the next track. This works GREAT!?
After explaining what happens above you can imagine that my original intention of listening to a lecture in the morning, and then relaxing by listening to a book in the evening has completely gone out the window. I now listen to my audio book only, and spend a great deal of time fast forwarding to find my last spot. Some of you might say "What's the big deal?"? Well, first I asked creative about the bookmarking feature, and I promise you that if you call a rep they will not tell you about it working this way even under considerable questioning, and secondly I think if I pay the amount of money I have for this product a software update should be available.
I'm wondering how many people have this problem, and if there are any fixes (including third party).
Thanks for reading this exceptionally long post,
    ?Michael

The steps to enter recovery mode can be found on top of the board.

  • Audiobook bookmark sync: 1 way only?

Today I was listening to an audiobook on my iPod Touch, and later on my iPhone 4.  Both are registered to the same iCloud account.
When I finished listening on the Touch, I was pleased to find later that my iPhone 4 knew exactly where I was up to in the audiobook (which chapter, how many minutes left) and I continued listening.  Later still, I got back home and found that the Touch audiobook was still at the position I'd left it.
What's more, when I went back to the audiobook on my iPhone 4, it synced back to where the Touch was.
So it seems that whenever the Touch Music app is opened, it sends out sync info and overrides the iPhone.
Perhaps I have set something up wrongly.  Is there a hierarchy of devices, such that one overrides the other in iCloud?  The problem seems to be that the iPhone isn't updating iCloud with where it's up to in the audiobook.  The iPhone is letting itself be bullied by the Touch!  How do I fix this?  Thanks in anticipation.
    Rob

Strange.  Seems to be working today.  Just listened to some more of the book on the iPhone while cleaning the car.  Came back inside, checked on the iPod Touch, and it synced to the same place within a few seconds.  I haven't changed any settings.

  • IOS 6.0.1 Audiobook bookmarks

I recently puchased Neal Stephenson's "Reamde" via iTunes on my iPhone 5.  It's a fun book, but  the iPhone won't remember where I last paused the audiobook if I close the Music app.
I sync with the cloud, NOT iTunes on the computer.. bad idea?
    Anyone have any ideas?

  • Scared to use my shuffle

At this point I'm so disappointed in apple. I just updated to iTunes 6 and wanted to check out the new ipod prefs, etc.
But then I thought, am I going to lose my audiobook bookmarks? am I going to lose my podcasts? what's going to get put on my shuffle? what order are they going to be put on? have I listened to everything?
in short... I'm scared to plug my shuffle into my computer because I don't know what's going to happen!
I've loved apple since 1985, in short, because of the simple, predictable behavior of their products. But now, with my shuffle, I'm totally unsure what's going to happen when I plug it in.
When are the unresolved Shuffle issues going to be fixed?
    1 - lost bookmarks
2 - random order of podcasts
3 - intermittent "disk cannot be read from or written to" errors.
these are the important one to me, but I know there are others.
    Saddened and disappointed.
    Derek

Well, when I bought the other, older Ipods I had, they wiped Itunes clean of all of its music the first time you synchronize. I guess the computer would default to the new Ipod and since its hard drive was blank, it just blanked out all my Itunes content.

  • Adding chapters/bookmarks to audiobooks

    Hi,
How do I add chapters and bookmark my audiobook? Right now, its one huge file of 10 hours long. I want to break it up into chapters, so its easier to navigate. Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance

    Easy.....go to Doug's Scripts:
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/scripts07.php?page=1#makebookmarkable
You want "Make Bookmarkable". It is the #1 script on the web site. While there, load up on the other twenty or more scripts to make your iTunes life a tad easier. This link shows what is available, click on the topic of interest:
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scrxcont.php
I have maybe 60 scripts for iTunes, I use at least 10 of them a day. Every now and then I do donate to the site, something to consider if you are a happy camper post-Doug.
    Cheers, SZ.
