Audiobook issue

I have put an audiobook on my iPhone 4s that is 5hrs 08mins long. This audiobook plays perfectly on iTunes on my laptop and successfully transferred to my iPhone showing up as 5hrs 08mins. However, when I select the audiobook to play , the screen shows 5:08:00 momentarily then changes to 10:16 and begins playing. I thought the book might then be sectioned into chapters or something and checked the album display (top right hand side) but it just shows one object. When the audiobook reaches 10:16 it continues and has gone up as far as 45mins of play whilst the timer sits at "00:00 remaining" but if I try to fast forward to any time passed 10:16 it just stops as if the audiobook is complete at that point. This means if I lose my place or listen to something else I have no way of getting back to the point where I stopped. I've never encountered this before and cannot see a similar subject on the boards. Anyone else have this or able to offer any suggestions? Thanks in advance

Hi.
Have you found out anything more on this issue?
I have 8 audio books (ripped to MP3, converted to M4B using MP3 to Ipod Audio book converter) and loaded into iTunes. Everything works perfectly in itunes but when 6 of the books are sync'ed to the phone either they have no audio at all or they stop at some point into the book. (The counter never stops, just the audio).
Just to add to the confusion - my test file works on an 8gb Ipod v.1.1.3, but fails on a 32 GB Iphone 3GS v.3.1.2 and fails too on a 16Gb IPhone 3G v.3.1.2.

  • Strange audiobooks issue

I have a strange audiobook issue. For background, I'm running iTunes 7.1.1 on Windows Vista Business, and have a 30GB video iPod.
Ok. I bought the audiobook of "The Great Gatsby" from iTunes. It is in my iTunes as an audiobook, is checked to sync and everything. Also, when my iPod is plugged in, and you expand the little arrow over in the left hand (so you can see what's actually ON the iPod, as opposed to in iTunes) and click on the Audiobooks under the iPod, it shows up, all three parts of the book.
However, when I look on my actual iPod, scroll to Audiobooks on the device, it's not there. But it says it's there (over iTunes) when it's plugged in.
Another audiobook, one that has been on there forever, apparently syncs just fine.
    Anyone experience this?
(Please, for the love of Christ, don't anyone post on here and tell me that iTunes is not fully compatible with Vista. I know this. You know I know this.)

Ok, for anyone coming across this in the future.
I resolved this by changing up the way I was running the MovUser command a little bit.
Previously, I was using MoveUser with the -u option, it would migrate the mailboxes, as far as I could tell, successfully. Then I would update the mailhost ldap attribute myself.
I changed to using the -l option with an ldap url and -A to have MoveUser update ldap, and it seems to be working just fine.
Not sure why first command doesn't work though...

  • Audiobook Issues

Running IOS 7.0.4 on both iPhone 5 systems and OSX 10.9 (fully up to date) on my 2012 Macbook Pro.
My wife used her iPhone 5 to download a Dr. Sleep (Audiobook). I synced her phone to the computer and all that is showing up on the computer is Section 1 of Dr. Sleep, there should be 4 sections. Also, her phone now only has section 1. I put it onto my iPhone 5 and only have section 1 as well. On her phone and my comptuer going to the iTunes store and looking it up; her phone says downloaded and I don't have the option to re-dowload and the computer only gives me the option to Buy Again. My phone says the same as the computer "You have already purchased this, do you want to buy it again?" Why can't I download. It's obviously linked to my account.
Another Audiobook issue... my wife used her phone to purchase another Audiobook and it downloaded to her phone but I can't see it. Looking in the itunes store on her phone it says "downloaded". It's not showing up in the spotlight search and I can't find it anywhere in her phone. Tried to sync her phone to my computer and it didn't transfer over. Both computer and my iphone give me the option to buy again, I can't just re-download. I already hit the Check for purchases button on my computer and it says everything associated with my account is downloaded.
I've soft and hard reset both phones. I've searched both phones, and the computer thuroughly. I see the purchase of both Audiobooks under recent purchases and I have the receipts for both in my email. This is driving me up the wall. I tried calling Apple but they are closed. Maybe someone here can help faster.
Has anyone had this problem and found a solution? Thanks in advance!

Audiobooks are a one-time only download from the store, they won't appear in the Purchased links for redownloading.
Does she know whether the other parts of the audiobook downloaded on her phone, or are they in the Downloads tab in the iTunes store app on her phone still waiting to download ? If thy didn't download then try the 'report a problem' page to contact iTunes Support : http://reportaproblem.apple.com
If the 'report a problem' link doesn't work then you can try contacting iTunes support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption
For the other audiobook, if you or your wife don't have a copy of it anywhere, then you can try the above contact link to contact Support and see if they will grant you a redownload

  • I'm an expert - still can't fix this Audiobook issue

This problem is killing me. I am an expert mac problem solver and have spent days resolving issues, never to be stumped. This I have been at for a week with no success. Props to anyone who can figure it out.
On my mac I have an audiobook in .m4a format. There are over a hundred files that combine to form the book. They load into my main iTunes library just fine. They play just fine. The problem arises when I select them all, hit "get info" and change the "media kind" to Audiobook. I do this so that they appear in the "Audiobooks" playlist and not with my music, obviously. It works, except for a handful of files from the middle of the book. iTunes makes these files into a second Audiobook with the same title, same author... same everything. So then what I have is two different Audiobooks (same title, same author, same cover art) one of which is the beginning and end of the book and the other which is just the middle. As you probably are aware, iTunes does not allow the user to edit Audiobooks by adding files, so I cannot combine them by simply dragging the files from one book to the other.
I have checked and rechecked the fact that all the files have identical information, i.e author, album, composer, media kind, equalizer preset, genre... everything. I did this to see if iTunes would combine them on its own once this info was the same. It did not. All the files are named properly (chapter 1.1, chapter 1.2 ...chapter 10.1 etc.), so I know they would all show up in order once placed together.
When I go into my iTunes music folder on my hard drive, the beginning/end of the book is listed in the correct place (Music/iTunes Music/Author/Book Title), whereas the middle of the book is listed by the same title under "Compliations" (Music/iTunes Music/Compilations/Book Title). In other words, in order to find the middle section of the book in the iTunes music folder, you would scroll down all the artists alphabetically until you got to "Compilations," and inside there would be the book title file containing the files that make up the middle of the book.
I have tried deleting and re-importing. I have tried physically moving the files from "Compilations" to their proper author's file then quitting and restarting iTunes, but this does nothing to combine the two Audiobooks into one single book. When I click on the files from the middle of the book to play them, the iTunes music folder undoes the work I just did, putting the files back into "Compilations" one by one as they are played.
Now I realize I could just leave the files in my main music library, organized by name, and they would all play in order. However, this should not have to be the case. I want my Audiobook in one piece, in the Audiobooks playlist so when I get to the middle of the book I wont have to open a second Audiobook (same title), play it, and then go back. Why the iTunes creators made Audiobooks so much less malleable than the other media I have no idea, but it aggravates me. Being able to click and drag would be an obviously simple fix to this problem.
If you or anyone you know has an idea for me, please do not hesitate to post. Thanks.

thanks 0Ari0, your suggestion of labeling all the files as part of a compilation worked. After I did this i changed the media kind to audiobook, and voila, one single book appeared in the Audiobooks submenu. The individual files aren't listed under their proper artist in the iTunes music folder, but I don't really care about that. I'm ok with having the book listed in Compilations as long as it's all in one piece.
    thank you

  • New Audiobook Issue

    Hi all,
I've been having a problem recently with differnt audiobooks I have on my phone. The issue is that while the audiobook syncs to my phone and displays the length, when I get to the play screen it only acknowledges the first few minutes of it. For example, I am currently listening to a book that is 5:08:23 long. When I play it the playback only reads 10:16, and once it reaches the end of that time continue to play the book. Then when I pause and then start playing it again it jumps back to the 10:16 mark. I'm very confused as to why it is doing this. Any suggestions? I'm on version 7.1
    ~Mike

I had the same problem with a recent audiobook. Plays in iTunes OK, but it doesn't play on the Nano. You might try these steps; they worked for me. (I'm using a Dell, in case that matters.)
    1. Select one of the audiobook's tracks and hit "burn" to burn it to a CD. ITunes will say the track won't fit onto a single CD. Click "Audio CDs" to break the track into new, shorter tracks and burn them onto multiple CDs.
    2. Once the CDs have burned, put each one back into the drive and import the new, shorter tracks into your library.
    3. Find the new, shorter tracks in your library. Right-click on them (if you're using a PC) and select "Convert selection to ACC." The ACC copies will appear under the originals.
    4. Copy the ACC copies into a new playlist for your audiobook.
    5. Synch the new playlist with your iPod. The new playlist will have several times as many tracks as the original audiobook, but it should play on the iPod.
I'm sure more tech-savvy iPoders will find a better way of handling the issue without burning up CDs, but this worked for me. I wonder if the problem is that the tracks are too long -- more than two hours in one case -- but I didn't have this problem with "iWoz" several months ago.

  • TS1424 Audiobook issues

I downoladed an audiobook it shows up in itunes and my iphone, however, it plays out of order and skips parts??

If it's the same problem on both devices, the book tracks are almost certainly corrupted. Go here:

and follow the instructions to report the issue to the iTunes Store.

  • IPod Nano 6 - audiobook issue

I have a 6th generation nano.  It works great, with one exception... whenever I try to play an audiobook when the nano is hooked to the usb in my car it plays for a second and then shuts down.  It will play music, podcasts and etc., but will not play the audiobook.  Any ideas?

On my 5th gen nano, there is a Setting, under Playback, for Audiobooks, to make it play Faster, Slower, or Normal.  For your 6th gen nano, is that setting there, and set to something other than Normal speed?
I was about to suggest doing a Restore, but I looked back at your original post, and you tried that already...
Compare one of your older audiobooks (that play properly) to an audiobook with this problem.  Do a Get Info (right-click - Get Info) on the audiobooks.  On the Info window's Summary tab, are their significant differences, such as for Bit Rate and Kind.

  • 7g nano audiobook issues

Old nano (3g) just died so I upgraded. I use the iPod exclusively for audiobooks. The "improvements" are making me crazy, so if anyone has suggestions I would love to hear them. Possibly I just haven't figured things out yet.
Why do audiobooks have to be under the "music" icon? Can I get an audiobook icon on the front page?
Why are audiobooks -- which starts with A, BTW -- off the page so you have to scroll? Can I move the link to the top to make it more accessible?
Why is cover artwork more important than knowing where you are in the book? Why do I have to tap the page to see progress? Can I get rid of artwork?
Why can I only see progress for a chapter at a time rather than the entire file/book?
Why can't I get directly to audiobooks when I am already listening to an audiobook? Once energysaver is on, you have to start from the beginning?

Let's start with just one of those, because it may solve several.
In iTunes on the computer, when you look at one of those audiobooks, it is listed as a "book" or as a "song."  First, if the iTunes sidebar is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
In the sidebar, under LIBRARY, select Books.  Is the audiobook in question shown on the list to the right?  If it is not, is it listed under Music (as a song) instead?
If so, select the item on the list.  Do a Get Info (right click -> Get Info).  On the Info window, go to the Options tab.  Set Media Kind to Audiobook.  Click OK.  The item should now appear under Books in the iTunes library.
"Audiobooks" that are synced to the nano should appear under the Audiobooks icon on the nano's screen (second screen).  That icon will only appear on the nano's screen when there is at least one audiobook loaded on the nano (and that audiobook needs to be categorized as an audiobook in iTunes).

  • IOS 5 "media kind" audiobook issue

Upgraded to ios 5.0.1 from ios 4.  Now setting "media kind" to audiobook for mp3s makes them non playable in the ipod.  iPod skips out as if they are 0 seconds long.
This has never happened before and is very very annoying because I use my ipod mostly for books.  Setting standard mp3s to audibook so it remembers the position and shows up in the audiobook section is the feature I use the most.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Stephane,
Looks like it is the case for a lot of people. I've been trying for nearly two days in my case... (that is via iTunes, iPhone/iPad and direct download links). I guess there's a lot of people trying to upgrade and would just recommend to try and try again. Or wait a couple of days when the servers are less overloaded

  • Managing itunes library (how to put an audiobook in the audiobook folder)

All of my audiobooks (my personal audiobooks, not ones from itunes)import to my music folder and not into the audiobook folder. Moreover, I can't move the files there after the import either. It "looks" like I can click and drag the file into the audiobooks folder but when I do, nothing happens. The genre is recognized as "books or spoken" but I can't seem to "manage" my library like I thought I would be able to do.

Thank you everyone for all your help. I have one last question in response to the solutions put forth about my audiobook issues.
Is there a way to change multiple file extensions at once? Some audiobooks have a track every three minutes of "book reading time". This allows users to quickly get to the last place they were in an audiobook. The problem though is that this can lead to hours worth of work to change one file extension at a time. Can I change multiple extensions (m4a to m4b) at once or can I take multiple tracks and combine them into "larger" tracks? Like I said, some audiobooks consist of hundreds if not thousands of tracks on some of the larger novels. It would take days to rewrite the file extensions.

  • "All Music" syncing all audiobooks.  How to avoid?

I want my entire music library on my nano (I upgraded to a 16Gb), but I don't necessarily want all my audiobooks on there. The problem is that when I choose "Entire Music Library," every single audiobook I have adds as well (this is 5-6 Gb). If I choose "selected playlists, artists and genres," the audiobook issue is solved, but then the sync is driven by my playlists which are set up to rule out things like "Spoken word" (like radio dramas) to keep my iPhone from being too full (ah, the joys of having multiple MP3 devices).
Aside from deleting audiobooks or changing their type to, say, iTunes U, (which would in turn remove them from the "Audiobook" menu item), is there a way to control which audiobooks are synced while ensuring that anything NOT considered to be an audiobook IS synced?

    Hello Xian,
I'm not sure what you mean by driven by playlists, but I am assuming it has to do with Smart Playlists, correct? Otherwise, if not, I don't know why or how syncing one iPod would affect another that you also happen to be syncing to the same iTunes library.
When you sync your entire library to your iPod, have you tried enabling the option to only sync "checked songs and videos" option from under the iPod's Summary tab? This will keep your iPod from syncing anything in your library without a check mark next to it.
Perhaps, you would like to check out this article as well, for more information and methods regarding how to manage multiple iPods/iPhones, with one computer.

  • Catagory changes when sync

When I sync my 80gb ipod with my computer all my podcasts and all but one of my audiobooks become "music" on my ipod. They are catagorized properly in itunes. This makes "shuffle" a pain on the ipod and makes it hard to find the books and podcasts. I noted some others have this problem with audiobooks or movies too, but not podcasts. My movies and TV shows sync'd fine (and so did one audiobook, but not 3 others)???

I found the post below under other questions related to audiobook issues similar to mine. I followed it with a couple minor changes and it fixed my audiobook problem. I deleted the audiobook file from itunes (but kept the file instead of moving it to the recycle bin). I sync'd my ipod to remove the file from it. Then I changed the file extension as describes and added it back to itunes. Then sync'd my ipod again and everything is where it should be.
"Re: Audiobooks - Not showing up in iPod Music > Audiobooks playlist
Posted: May 16, 2007 12:02 PM in response to: DC Hero Fan
I think this has been covered in several posts (search under "audiobooks"). Basically, even the stuff you download from iTunes Store is not always formatted correctly for your iPod to place in the correct spot.
Downloaded books show up in iTunes under Audiobooks, but not on your iPod under the same. Close iTunes. From windows explorer, find the audiobook in your My Documents/My Music/iTunes/iTunes Music folder and change the extension on the file from .m4p or .m4a to .m4b and then relaunch iTunes. Find the audiobook and play it for a few seconds so iTunes properly recognizes the file. Make sure that it is listed under the genre "Audiobooks" - if that genre is not available, pick custom and create it. Right-click the file and pick info, then options and make sure that the buttons for replaying from last position and skipping during mix play are selected. Re-synch and it should show up on your iPod under Music->Audiobooks.
Books that you import from CDs have to be manually configured to show up as Audiobooks - again, details can be found by searching these forums."

  • Issue with a corrupt audiobook

Has anyone had an issue with a corrupt audiobook on iPad?  Ironically it's with my download of Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson.  It will not play.
I've deleted it and re-synced but now only one of the three parts is downloading.

If you downloaded the audiobook from the iTunes Store using your iPad, that might account for the issue. Audiobooks are larger files and sometimes if you download them over a WiFi connection, the connection can break and the file may be corrupted. It's not possible to delete and redownload audiobooks via your purchased page the way you can do with some other content, so you should contact iTunes Store Customer Support via
http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ and see if they can maybe send you a new copy.
