Audiobook playing out of order

I have audiobooks purchased from the iTunes store and many that I have transferred from CDs borrowed from the library. Books I have transferred are suddenly not playing back in order (some of these books I have had for several years), the tracks seem to be playing in "shuffle". I have saved each book as a playlist then in Get Info/Options have selected audiobook, part of compilation, remember position, skip when shuffling and gapless album. This has worked really well until recently though I am not sure if it coincides with the iTunes update. I have 32GB iTouch (original). Please help!

Ok. I spoke with an apple representative today because I was having the same problem.
Apparently if you have used genius or smart playlist this can throw your audiobook order off. All you need to do is
#1 - Place your audiobook in a playlist
#2 - Make sure the tracks are in order in iTunes
#3 - Right click on the 'playlist' file. Press 'Copy to Play Order'.
#4 - Sync your i-Pod
If you still have problems you might need to create a new playlist and drag the audiobook
tracks into it and then repeat the above steps.
Hope this helps.

  • Opera arias and recitatives played out of order

Operas are played out of order.  Also broken up and saved in itunes as albums.  Some albums are 1 piece, others are as many as 7-8 pieces.  Any ideas?

Have you checked your iPod's Settings to make sure the Shuffle setting is set to Off.

  • Songs Play Out of Order

When I try to play music through iTunes, the songs play out of order. It jumps around to random songs instead of playing a full album or artist in the order the songs appear on the screen. I do not have "shuffle" turned on. I don't know if this has anything to do with the little checkboxes next to the song name, but some are checked and others aren't, and I can't figure out how to control that either. Some tips would be much appreciated. Thanks.

So I'm going to have to go into my playlists and enter in track numbers? WEAK! I've made playlists of audio recordings, etc., that were not on CD, so they have no track numbers, then just plugged in some graphics as "album art."
All because apple didn't forsee that some people would have made their own playlists and given it an "album art" graphic? That's a rather obvious thing, isn't it?

  • Audiobook files out of order

    Hi,
I have spent probably three hours on this help site, first figuring out how to classify an audiobook I burned as such on my iPod (which I did), but now the files are out of order - it starts with Chapter 23 then goes to Chapter 9, Chapter 14 and so on. I have tried EVERYTHING and read all relevant posts I can find on this site. It's driving me nuts.
I have re-numbered the tracks/disks by hand and tried having the "part of a compilation" box checked and unchecked. I sort it in iTunes by Album order, but on my iPod it's all messed up. My iPod is not on shuffle. I have re-set my iPod and my computer.
I cannot believe it is so difficult to get an Audiobook into iTunes and then onto your iPod. Why does Apple make it so difficult? I've already wasted so much time and really hope there is somebody out there with the heart to help me. : ) Sorry for complaining - but it's frustrating!
    Thanks!

Kristy: I have no experience of audio books...hoever logic tells me to try this.
Create a new playlist and drag the chapters to the playlist in the order that you want to listen to them. Then update your iPod.

  • Why is the track order of my album being played out of order?

The track order of my album appears correct in iTunes and on my iPod Classic 160 but.......... it plays the tracks out of order. frustrating when listening to stand up comedies.... I checked the "info" of each album and the track listing/order is correct..... help?

Have you checked your iPod's Settings to make sure the Shuffle setting is set to Off.

  • Audiobooks play in random order

    Hi,
I am having an issue (it's quite common, according to Google), where audiobooks appear to play in random order om the iPhone, while playing fine in iTunes.
I could not find any fix or workaround on the net, so I'm wondering if anybody here knows the answer. It appears to be some kind of bug in iTunes 9.x and iPhone 3.1, as the same audiobooks used to work fine before. And no, it's not just a question of turning shuffle off.
    Thanks in advance,
    Nike

I've only just bought into the iPhone so I'm not sure how it handled audiobooks before but it's possible that changes in the treatment of Album Artist or the number of discs field may be causing your problems. Using iTunes 9.0.2 with my 3.1.2 iPhone I find it groups the chapters of a multi-track audiobook together and in the right order, although sadly the chapter titles have been replaced with Part X of Y.
You might find some of the techniques I describe in Grouping Tracks Into Albums useful. A workaround would be to use playlists for your multi-track Audiobooks as described in Audiobooks on iPods, or just treat them as reqular albums.

  • One track played out of order

I've noticed this problem since one of the last updates: I have my settings on shuffle by album and the albums normally play from 1 to the end. However, certain albums skip a track in the middle and play it last. ex. 1-4, 6-10, 5 (My Morning Jacket, Z) It doesn't do this with every album, but quite a few. I've messed with the settings and album info, but can't find anything that would explain why it does this. And it does it on both my mac and PC...
    I'd appreciate any suggestions!
mac book and dell   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Alright- figured it out.  Each out of order track had an "album artist" filled in (a field under artist when you click "Get info) and the others just just had "artist" filled in.  By filling in an "album artist" on all the tracks in addition to the already filled in "artist" field, I got them to arrange themselves properly in the album order.  I assume blanking out the "album artist" field on the tracks that had it also might have worked.  I think the key is making sure all the meta-data is exactly the same.
Just posting this for the sake of anyone googling for answers to the same issue.

  • Playlists playing out of order

I have a 4g 64g ipod touch.  I recently noticed that whenever I make a playlist in my computer and drag it into the ipod, the songs do not play in order.  I am positive that the shuffle isn't being used.  For example, if I start the playlist on song one then press the forward arrow to jump to the next song, it might jump to track number 16 or 47...but never track two as it should.  This also happens when I let the song play through and the ipod moves on to the next track itself.  The next track it plays is never the next in line as it should be.  I've tried to find a setting on the ipod and computer that could be causing this but have had no luck.  HELP! Thanks!

That's your opinion and you are entitled to it.
However, another way of looking at this is that the charge is high enough to discourage customers from using the phone-an-employee option and instead read the instructions that Apple have spent time and money writing, or use the forum. It's cheaper than having an employee on the end of a phone providing basic user advice. The additional cost of the phone service would be reflected in a higher purchase price for an iPod.
Consider yourself lucky that you have the choice of paying for that advice, isn't it only available to those of you in the USA?

  • Slides play out of order on Apple TV

My sides are in a fixed order in my windows file. When they play on Apple TV through Home share, they are in some random order. Several others have had this problem. Is there a solution?

Good to know that someone else is having this issue.  After several weeks of trying to use this feature I have given up.  There doesn't seem to be any correlation between what's on my Photostream on iOS devices (I have three and they all show identical Photostream content) and my new Apple TV which just randomizes the content.
I have discovered one interesting thing.  Although the photos that show up in my automatic Photostream on Apple TV continue to be randomized, shared Photostreams that I have created seem to behave as they should.  What shows up on my iOS devices matches what is on Apple TV and in the correct order.

  • Properly numbered tracks still play out of order

    Here's a strange one:
iTunes has stopped playing songs on albums in their proper order. This, despite the fact that I did a "Get Info" on the tracks and determined that they all have the proper "X of Y" numbering sequence, and that the album name is the same from one track to the next (no extra spaces, typos, etc.).
And what's really weird is that the tracks are listed in their proper order when I select the "Album" view in iTunes.
Nevertheless, when I play the album, they skip around, as though there was some mysterious "shuffle songs within album" setting. (Is there?)

That could be it. I'm away for the weekend and not near the computer on which I keep my iTunes library. I'll check on Monday, and if that's it, I'll be sure to mark your answer as "solved."
    Thanks for the pointer!

  • Albums playing out of order?

    I'm using iTunes 12.1.2.27 on OS X 10.10.2.
Something very funny is happening. In album view, whenever I double-click on an album, it will play the tracks in a random order. If I double-click directly on the first song in the album, it will play that, but the following tracks are in a random order.
The only way I've found to play an album in the correct order is to either use the search and double-click on the album, or to click the play icon in album view.
What's up with this behavior? Why do albums not *always* play in order? These albums are properly tagged, with each track having the right track number.

    Play a song.
Tap the artwork (center of screen while playing)
In menu that appears for Repeat, Progress, Shuffle, Genius....is shuffle on (blue means on, white is off).

  • My pictures are playing out of sequence on my project.  Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get them to play in order?

Hi.  I'm using iMovie for the first time.  I put in only pictures.  No videos.  When I hit play, my pictures are playing out of order and some repeat.  Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong or what I need to change so they play in order?  Thanks!

  • Help playing out order

Ever since I download the recent itunes update to my iPOD songs either play out of order or the song I start on just plays over and over instead of moving to the next song.  How do I fix this?

I am at work, so I don't have Itunes in front of me. Anywho, you should be able to sort on any of the columns that you have set up in your library or playlist. Just click on the header bar of the column you want to sort on. Is that the issue......

  • Audiobooks out of order on iPod

I want to play audiobooks in a specific order. I've set the sort by field and they are correct in iTunes but out of order when downloaded to the iPod. I might mention they were were in the desired order until I recently updated the software and replaced one of the books.

This is what I did to fix the same thing with the order of podcasts...
I Can’t take credit for this, someone (riffraff)posted it long ago, but I’ve had to use it each time iTunes updates.
    1. This will erase your play lists and music list. May want to have them saved somewhere to import from later
    2. Close iTunes
    3. I went to music folder then to iTunes and under this directory
    4. I deleted iTunes Library files, library, extras, and genius
(Actually I just moved them to a new folder on the desktop if things go wrong)
    5. started iTunes.
    6. Got shaken when no songs in the music list
    7. select add folder to library
    8. select your music folder-probably iTunes Music folder
    9. let run
    10. I plugged in my shuffle, copied 5 podcasts to a playlist. Arrange in the order you want. Sync to the iPod. Detach and check. It worked for me.
