Audiobook wont fast-forward.

Hi, I recentely accquired Harry Potter and the half-blood prince Audiobook and my trouble is when I fast forward it to where I left off the night before it doesn't do it. It plays the first chapter even if I fast forward it to right at the end it will play the first chapter over and over till the audiobook ends but its ok if I leave it but I dont feel like playing my Ipod for 10 hours just to listen to the bit I want plus the battery probably wouldn't last anyway. This doesn't happen with my Harry Potter and the order of the phoenix audiobook so what can be the problem?

Yep, I have the exact same thing happening with my podcasts encoded with Lame 3.97. It occurs on both of my 8GB Nano's, so I assume it would happen with all. It is quite annoying.

  • My Ipod starts a song ten seconds before the songs before that finished. Also it wont fast forward.

When I listen to a song, ten seconds before its done, the song after will start playing. It's actually very annoying. I don't know how to E-mail Ipod support. >.< Also, when a song starts, and I click the center button, it goes to the screen that I can move a song forward or backward. Whenever I move a song forward, It just replays a few seconds where I was before. So I can't go forward at all.

  • Scrubbing/fast forward not working

i have an mp3 file that is 18 hours long. It's an audio book.
when i try to use the scrubbing or hold down fast forward it wont go to any other parts of the track. it doesn't matter where i put the slider, even if i drag it all the way to the end it still plays near the beginning of the track. when i hold down the fast forward button it just sounds like a skipping CD, looping over the same part of the track over and over!
I tried restoring the iphone. still wont fast forward.
could this be a bug in the ipod software?

I did some research and found a great little app called "MP3 Scan+Repair".
I used it to repair the MP3 audio book file and all is well now

  • Why wont imovie let me fast forward?

I make youtube videos so I know how to use iMovie really well. anyways, I tried to fast forward a clip and the screen just becomes gray. I saw some other posts that said to make sure the timeline isn't wrapped. first of all, I don't know what that means. second of all, I don't think that's the issue because I haven't done anything different than what I always do.
this is how the screen looks when I try to fast forward a clip

does anyone have any ideas? I've restarted my computer, restarted iMovie, started a new project, etc and nothing has worked

  • How can I fast forward in Podcast?

I want to know how to fast forward in a podcast?  I can hold down the fast forward button and it goes a few seconds and I can rewind for a few seconds.  However I want to fast forward minutes.
Any suggestions?  I see in the manual on page 62 about podcast and audiobook controlls but I don't have playback speed or a skip to any point in the timeline.

To skip to any point on the timeline, drag the playhead along the scrubber bar.  While dragging, slide your finger down to slowdown the scrub rate.

  • Problem with fast forward of trackball in media player of 8330

I'm a fairly new BB owner of a Sprint 8330 Curve.  I've checked the newbies site on Crackberry and checked here also.  Can anyone help with this problem:
I've downloaded some MP3 audiobooks from my local public library.  They play fine, but the problem is that it always starts at the beginning every time.  The book is in multiple parts, each of which is 60 minutes long, each of which is treated as a single song.  I can see the reverse, pause, and fast forward buttons but I can't get the trackball to work with them.
When I scroll the trackball to the right to fast forward, it scrolls to the next part of the book, not within the same part (song).  When I scroll the trackball left, it goes back to the last song.  When I scroll it up or down, the whole playlist shows up on the screen and I can scroll through those.
I found one post that talked about how to fast forward video, but it showed a different screen that mine.
I just can't get the trackball to position itself on the progress bar or on the controls.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks.

I've got the same problem with my BlackBerry 8330.  I have v4.5.0.169 (Platform 3.4.0.51). Once i start an audio file, I am unable to select the scroll bar above the play so that I can fast forward through the song, book, etc.

  • Unable to fast forward through podcasts

I've recently noticed that I can't fast forward through podcasts on my iPod touch, specifically with NPR All Songs Considered ones (I don't listen to any other ones, so it may not be specific to these ones). Its annoying because I can't pick up from where I left off listening. Every time I try using the bar to move through the podcast, it starts over from the beginning. Is this intentional? Is it specific to the podcast?

This is a long standing problem with iPods and appears to be specific to podcasts that get encoded using LAME, arguably the best available encoder anywhere.
From what I can tell from searching over the years, this is due to the iPod looking at a very old style header (XING) instead of the proper field in the LAME set header. This is as near as I can figure out from the posts.
This causes problems like the iPod thinks the track is shorter than it really is (a good example of this is a long MP3 like one disc of an audiobook) and stops prematurely. Very annoying.
In the case of the NPR podcasts, the bug in the iPod causes crashes when you try to fast forward or seek.
Neither of these problems appear to be related in any way to "remember playback position", so don't necessarily go down that route.
An easy way to check for this issue on a podcast is to highlight it, and then right click, select Get Info. If you see LAME as the encoding, look out, your iPod will possibly not play it correctly.
These same podcasts play back absolutely fine on any other player, and over the years it has been consistently narrowed down to a bug in the iPod.
I sure wish Apple would fix this. I just had the same problem with a recent podcast on my 2nd gen Nano, so we loaded it onto my son's brand new iPod. I thought surely Apple would have fixed this by now, but sure enough, still broke on the latest Nano version!

  • Prob with fast forward

I only use the mini to listen to audiobooks. Sometimes it loses its place and when I try to fast forward or rewind it either goes all the way back to beginning or 1-2 hours ahead. I've noticed a "bar" that is segmented that appears below the name, title of book, etc and it I have a 5 hr book, then there are 5 bars and when I push ff, it goes ahead by an hour. How did I get this bar on there, or better yet, how do I get it off so that I can at least ff in increments of minutes. Nothing in manual about this that I've seen. Thanks so much for helping me.

The segments should represent chapters. Pressing fast forward once quickly releasing it should cause it to jump to the next segment.
To fast forward without "jumping" press and hold the fast forward button. You should hear it as it skips ahead.
Alternatively, you can press the select button (center button) and you should see a diamond appear over a bar. You can then scroll ahead or back and the diamond will indicate the play position. Press the select button again to return to the previous display.
    Regards.

  • I use my IPod for Audio Books, how do I 'fast forward', I use my IPod for Audio Books, how do I 'fast forward'

I use my IPod for Audio Books, how do I 'fast forward',

While listening to an audiobook, click the Center button twice to reveal the scrubber bar. Use the scroll wheel (like you do to move up and down the menus) to fast forward or rewind through the audiobook or audiobook track.

  • IPod Touch Fast Forward

Ok so I have a few audiobooks on my iPod Touch. Most work great. However, on one of them when I try to fast forward (FF), the bar will drag, but when I let go, it jumps back to the beginning of the track. It is very annoying seeing as how they are over 1 hour long each. I have tried to restore, but it did not work. Any ideas? Using iOS 4.0.1.
    Thanks!

I fixed it. Re-encoded all the songs. Stupid Lame 3.97 encoder screwed everything up.

  • Auto Fast-Forward when buffering airport?

    Hello,
I have noticed a problem in iTunes ever since I upgraded to iTunes 7.
It is, that when I begin to play music on my Airport Express, iTunes will begin the song in fast-forward, and not in play. To correct, I have to pause and un-pause. Once I fix it, it wont happen again until iTunes stops completely and starts again, (usually when I quit). Not a huge bug, just want to know if there are any common fixes.
    I have 7.0.2.
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I have that problem all the time with synced HD video. If I fast forward or rewind, the video will start sputtering after that. I don't think it's your network, it's probably a glitch in the ATV.
In any case, if you're streaming from a Mac via wifi, make sure you turn Time Capsule off. If it starts running while you're streaming, it will definitely degrade performance.

  • Fast forward problem in iTunes 6.0.1.3

    Hello
I am using iTunes 6.0.1.3 on Windows XP Pro.
The situation is this. I have a song that is 7:30 long. When I play it normally it works just fine. However when I use the fast forward and advance to time mark 6:45 and start playing it is actually playing the part of the song that is at 6:00 (within a second or two), I let it go ahead and play and when it gets to 7:30 it just stops and jumps to the top of the menu tree (both it iTunes and on my ipod (40 gig 4g).
I have tried the fast forwarding in Music Match and Adobe Audition and it works just fine. I have tested the mp3 file with all the editors and players I have and it works great.
It appears there is some type of synch issue with fast forward and I don't really know where to start.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank You.

Well, I've noticed this problem at work (while using my work laptop on a network with other users -- some who have iTunes 5 and some iTunes 6) and at home (using a completely different laptop).
At first I thought it was a configuration problem on my work laptop, but now I'm thinking it has something to do with iTunes itself.
The weird thing is: People at work who use iTunes 5.0 can see the shared drives without a problem. Those with 6.0 cannot. So this problem is replicating itself in two completely different environments -- leading me to believe it's something in iTunes 6. Hmm....

  • ITunes starts fast forwarding tracks after 1hours continuous play?

Hi I have recently updated windows XP on my computer to service pack three. After this update when I am listening to iTunes it suddenly started playing the songs in my library too quickly as if it was stuck on fast forward.
If you stop itunes playing then press play or select a different track it continues to play too fast. The only way to fix the problem is to close itunes and re-open it.
I have now found that this problem starts after iTunes has been playing music for just over an hour, so currently I'm having to close and re-open itunes ever hour to keep listening to music.
Any Idea why this might be happening?
I'm running XP SP3, 3GB ram, 3GHz processor, 200GB HD no where near full. Its iTunes version 8.2.1.6.
    Thanks
    Liam

Anyone else have this problem? I have now timed the problem to exactly 1hour 9minutes of continuous play, so if you play for 30 mins, pause for 15 then play iTunes starts fastforwarding 39 minutes later.

  • Firefox crashes when I try to rewind or fast forward netflix?

I have a weird problem with netflix I've been dealing with for awhile and it BUGS me to no end.
Whenever I try to fast forward or rewind on netflix, the browser freezes up and then my whole computer is frozen and dead.
I can click on the progress bar of netflix to wherever, and the little red circle appears and spins for about 4 seconds, and then it just freezes up and a few seconds later my whole computer is pretty much useless and I'm forced to just shut it down improperly.
It's not a huge deal I guess, I just try not to ever need to rewind a little bit when I miss something, but when I do need to, it's annoying as heck.
I use firefox, because I also have a problem watching netflix on chrome (it's choppy and I can't figure that out either, I've tried everything) so my preferred browser of choice is firefox for netflix) but this issue is getting annoying. (If it makes a difference, I can fast forward or rewind netflix fine on chrome, I've tried it just today).
I've figured out that if I rewind and give it like 3 seconds (right before I know its about to crash) and then hit the refresh button, usually my video will reload to the place I wanted to be at.
Anyway, help would be awesome. Thank you :)
