Audiobooks computer to ipod classic problems

Okay.  Nothing seems to help.  I have followed all the directions I've read and I still cannot get the audiobook I purchased to go to my ipod classic.  I've updated the device. I've reauthorized the computer. I've made sure the audiobooks setting is "on" on the ipod.  I've made sure the auto sync is selected.  The book shows on my computer.  I even tried dragging it into a playlist but it still does not show up on the ipod.  Additionally, my ipod will not charge now when I plug it into the computer.  It used to automatically charge and sync.  What a hassle!  I prefer the old itunes.

Audiobooks:
Connect device to iTunes, select the device either from the device icon at the top-right or from the sidebar (enable with CTRL+S), select the Books tab, then scroll down for options to make sure the book is selected to sync, and sync.
Charging issue:
In some cases you can get a small piece of fluff in the port that can prevent the charging lead making contact. Canned air or a good strong puff should dislodge if present. Poking around in the port should be avoided, but if it must be done use something flexible and non-conducting, e.g. a thin strip of card, and only if you can clearly see that something unexpected is there.

Correct. When you update via iTunes all synced media that is not in your iTunes library will be lost.
    As IO said before:
You can redownload most iTunes pruchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
I do not think it included audio books.

I just purchased a used ipod classic 5 gen. After resetting the ipod as noted on itunes, I went to sync an audio book to the ipod and get an error message that the audiobook was uinable to be loaded on ipod. What am I doing wrong?

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Continual Ipod classic problems

I would like to say first that I have been very patient waiting for an update to supposedly fix the problems of not being able to use mt ipod classic 160 I have owned for about a month and a half and it has been replaced about 6 times one of which time was at the apple store where it also crashed for them. I have tried everything loading it manually sometimes day by day slowly it would reach a point and just do the same thing over again. I am at my wits end, thank god I still have my rugged old click wheel ipod to get me through the day. A couple of days ago I saw that there was itunes update 7.5 so I downloaded it that said it fixed some ipod classic issues, I went to this discussion forum for a couple days and didnt see much activity about the ipod classic so I thought maybey there was a cure. I then today went to my closet where the last ipod I received from the apple store was and proceeded to load it. Everything seemed fine until the end when the ipod ejected itself it said it was safe to disconnect... I disconnected it and it went into a continual crash with the apple logo displayed. I then connected it again this time putting it into disk mode and did a restore halfway through the restore I got a message saying that the ipod was corrupted. The ipod ejected and again went into the apple screen crash and I connected it and put it into disk mode again and reconnected it and proceeded to restore it. The fist restoration attempt gave me a message of unable to restore the ipod error 1419 so I tired it a second time. The second restoration was succesful and the ipod began to load. It then disconnected and did same thing over again continual crashing. So the last step was to again to start it in disk mode and I restored again only to be able to not load anything onto it and restore back to the factory settings so it will turn off so I can return it back to the closet and continue to be frustrated and disappointed in my purchase. it is pretty bad when you spend close to 400 dollars for something and you cant use it. I need a solution.

Thanks for your concern. I am using Vista and its a bummer because I have a G3 ibook and probably wouldnt be having this problem if I were using it. But I have to use a PC for work and I wanted all my music on my computer also for traveling on business. I just think there are some bugs for Vista and they can't iron them out yet. There silence on issues is quite frustrating I am very disapointed in my purchase. I was going to bu an Archos player and decided to be loyal to apple because even though I am on a PC for work I have had nothing but Apple computers from the beginning. I think there support is lagging a little on the ipod classic. I guess the only thing I can do is wait for another update from Apple. Because when i take my computer and my ipod classic to them they get the same result I do and they don't know how to support it. I have no options at this point. I was looking forward to buying movies and music videos too. Back to the closet shelf.

  • HT1351 Using OverDrive Media from my library I can't transfer audiobooks to my ipod classic

Can anyone tell me how to configure my ipod Classic so I can transfer audiobooks from the library using OverDrive Media.  These particular books are labeled "ipod compatible" but when I try to transfer, after downloading to my computer, I get an error message saying they can't be transferred to my ipod.  I selected the option on my ipod to manually manage something which I know requires that I eject my ipod before disconnecting it from the computer.  Any other help?

What format are these audiobook tracks in? If it's the WAV format it will not work with the iPod Classic. You'll want to use the MP3 version instead from OverDrive.

  • How can I organize my audiobooks on my iPod classic?

I just bought a 160gb iPod Classic, but I'm disappointed to find that the audiobook feature is rather lacking. Instead of organizing my books nicely into "author" - > "book" -> "chapter list" like it does with my music, it just throws all the chapters into one long list regardless og which book it belongs to. I listen to audiobooks quite often and found it annoying that when I put my iPod on shuffle, audiobooks would come up; so I changed them from 'Music' to 'Audiobook' and now I have this problem.
Has anyone got a nice solution to this?

  • HT1386 How can i get all my songs transfered onto the computer from Ipod classic so that my new ipod and my spouse can get the songs??

    Hello
How can I transfer my songs off my old Ipod classic to the computer so that I can pick them up with my new Ipod 4.  Also I want to transfere some songs to my spouses Ipod 5.  Please let me know what I can do...
    Thank you..
    Alexandra

You can try the steps in that support article, but I doubt they'll help: you're trying to copy from an iPod Classic, to an iPod Touch.  As far as I know, that can't be done using backup and restore.  (But you can try—it wouldn't hurt.)
The question I have is, do you have the songs on your computer also?  Or do you only have the songs on your iPod Classic?  (Maybe from an old computer that crashed or something?)
If you have your songs on the computer, all you have to do is just set up your new iPod through iTunes on your computer and sync the songs from iTunes to your new iPod.  You don't have to do anything with the old iPod Classic.
    (Does that help?)

  • IPod classic problem syncing

IPod classic syncing very slow with updated iTunes program, fix?

I've encountered the same problem. For some reason either it be the Firmware on the iPod or iTunes program - it doesn't automatically sync updates to the iPod.
The only solution I've found is to have the Manually manage songs and videos in the Summary window checked.
That way I can add or delete off the iPod itself and update accordingly.
It's a more tedious process but it's not like the 'old days' when you could plug your iPod in and it did all the changes. I guess Apple is placing less and less value on these players.

  • New computer, new iPod Classic - doesn't sync my purchased tunes

In a perfect storm of technical catastrphies, my desktop PC went belly up, followed by my iPod. When I bought a new PC, the dealer transfered all My Documents, including Music to the new PC. 2 weeks later, my old iPod likewise demised but my wife bought me a new iPod Classic for my birthday. It was easy to sync my iTunes library to the new iPod except I have notice that many tunes are not being synced to iPod. Looks like none of my purchased tunes are being transferred and I get a message informing me something to the effect that this PC wasn't liked to this iPod or somesuch.
Any body know how to get around this?

    Hey there,
Before you can transfer of play any songs from iTunes you have authorize your computer first. To do this just head to +Store->Authorize Computer+ and see if that does anything for you. Hope this helps.

  • Serious iPod Classic Problems

Alright, the problem begins with a "no music" error that I received when I looked at my iPod. Further investigation revealed that, while there was no music, there was 32GB of 'extras' data present. The music was there, but the iPod was not registering it as such.
Plugging it into my computer resulted in either a frozen iTunes or completely lack of recognition that the hardware was there at all. When I finally managed to coax my computer into believing that, yes, I do in fact own an iPod and it is plugged in (by switching to my Windows partition and reformatting the device so my Mac would acknowledge its existence), I tried to sync the iPod, and, after a painfully slow process of uploading all of my music, I looked and discovered that, once again, I had 32GB of 'extras,' with absolutely no music.
So I did the reformatting thing again, this time on the Mac partition, and decided instead to sync my music playlist by playlist, artist by artist, song by song. There came a point, however, at which the uploading no longer progressed at the acceptable speeds of dozens of songs per minute. Upon further investigation, I discovered that uploading ANY songs after this point resulted in the same "no music" problem, but if I stopped the syncing right before the upload slowdown, then all the songs (about 300 or so) are registered by the iPod and play fairly normally.
With a few exceptions, of course. Playing many of these songs will freeze my iPod, and trying to re-sync these songs to clear up the data and allow for smoother playback will result, once again, in the "no music" problem.
There are no permissions problems in the music on my computer, my iPod is physically undamaged, all of my cables and ports are fully functional, and no amount of reformatting of the iPod, either on my Windows or on my Mac, has solved the problem.
    I need help. Badly.

I have a similar problem regarding a frozen Itunes. When I connect my Ipod, it freezes the whole Itunes program. I can't restore it, or do anything with Itunes while my Ipod is connected. Everything was working fine prior to my updating the itunes program and restarting my computer, but now it's all a mess. When I managed to get in and sync, it wiped all my music and added only some videos I'd purchased. Let me know if by some miracle someone develops a solution, but I'm feeling pretty sketical.

  • Ipod classic problems: screen and connecting to windows..PLEASE HELP ME!!

Ok, so I know many people have problems connecting their ipod classics to computers, it seems like it only happens to classics. But anyways, lately my ipod screen has also been doing weird stuff like cutting words in half..(example: instead of music it would show usic. etc.) Has this happened to anyone else? It has also erased some of my music, but luckily I was able to get it back. Does anyone know how to fix any of these problems?
    thanks!
    -krenny

I definetley think apple should work on that model, I've have friends who purchased a zune and haven't had problems with it at all since then. They did say it is difficult to find cases and car plugs, etc. for zunes though, I don't think I'd purchase one just because I like the way ipods work better ( controls, screen layout, etc.) but besides that I'd say they're pretty nice.
I just realized it was probably a bad idea to mention zunes on an Apple forum, but what the heck!

  • IPod Classic problem with BeoSound 8 Dock

We bought a Beosound 8 yesterday. The sound is wonderful, but it only works properly with my iPhone. My iPod (Classic 80GB) menu can't be accessed - the screen and 'click wheel' appear to be locked, with the display showing "OK to disconnect". The only way I can get the music to play is to select the desired album/track before docking the iPod, which rather defeats the object. The iPod works fine when not connected to the BeoSound. I've tried re-setting the iPod but that doesn't seem to change anything. The iPod software is up to date. Please can anybody help?

I didn't respond to your first post because I wasn't sure that I could give you any useful information. However, since you have posted again and have yet to receive any reply, I thought I would chip in.
You can confirm the software version on the iPod by either of the following methods:
    1. On the iPod, go to Settings/About and when the "amount used" bar shows, press the centre button twice to move to the screen that shows the serial number, model and version.
    2. Connect the iPod to iTunes and look at the Summary screen which will show you the *Software version.*
However, you need to be aware of the following; my 160GB Classic has *1.1.2 for PC* on it and is up to date. As far as I can tell (and I'm not expert at this) the Software 2.0.2 and later is only for iPod classic 160GB _*(Late 2009).*_ So for example, my iPod's software "is up to date" because it has the latest version _for my model,_ which is older than "late 2009". Likewise, I'm not convinced that your iPod will have 2.0.4 on it because it isn't for the 80GB Classic. If anyone knows differently, I suggest they add to this thread and let us know.
So that begs the question "are B&O correct to imply that your 80GB iPod can have that software?" If they are not, and their Beosound only likes iPods with that software, perhaps that's why your iPod doesn't work correctly - because B&O have got it wrong. (It's not impossible! I've seen one car stereo that the vehicle manufacturer claims to be iPod friendly, but it isn't. I tried using it and found it complete rubbish.)
Anyway, back to your situation: once you start the iPod playing, if you then connect it to the B&O, does it continue to play the rest of the tracks that you expect it to? For instance, if I connect my iPod Classic to my car's stereo, I start it playing the section I want (usually all songs on shuffle) and just let it do its thing. I can skip to the next track and back to the beginning of the "now playing" track, but I cannot use the playlists (despite instructions suggesting that I can) nor can I access the menus or change to a different selection (such as changing from one genre to another or one album to another.)
So I've got used to this quirk and simply decide what I'm going to listen to, start it playing and then connect it up.
By the way, when your iPod is coneected to iTunes, there is a button to check for software updates. I've not known it to be wrong.
    Phil
