Audiobooks in iTunes is playing at high speed

I recently downloaded some audiobooks onto iTunes but when I play them back they're are high speed. Any ideas why and how I can stop it! It's very annoying!

  • MP3 imported, but being played in high speed?!

    Hello community,
    Having Captivate 2, I'm wondering why this happens... It
    worked in Captivate 1 perfectly.
    I record and modify the audio recordings externally from
    Captivate using Adobe Audition (1.5 or 2; depending on the machine
    I'm working on).
    In Captivate 1, to have a low file size of the SWF file, I
    imported MP3 files in 48 kbps, 41,100 KHz, 16 Bit Mono quality.
    Using Captivate 2 in editing mode, when I import MP3 files,
    everything seems fine. I hear everything OK. But once I publish the
    project the audio is being played in high speed!!
    Now, I tried importing plain WAV files, sure. But there is
    another problem.
    I can easily modify the audio quality from within Captivate
    2, and this is great! I publish the project's audio in the above
    48kbps quality. However, the end result is a kind of blurry audio.
    Just poor quality. It seems the narrator is speaking half into
    water.
    Now, once I publish the project in an audio quality of 96
    kbps the blurry effect is gone. But the file size increased
    dramatically, which is not good.
    Anyone aware of a solution? :-)

    But my issue is that they sound great in preview but slow way
    down on playback. I suspect that in the import/converting process,
    the bit rate or sample rate is getting corrupted.
    I do not use the record function of Captivate, using Audacity
    and a Lexicon Alpha sound card. I can set any number of options
    during recording and have the ability to export in a number of
    formats (WAV, MP3, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, MP2).
    Does anyone have a 'best practices' suggestion for the
    recording settings that would prevent any need for
    import/converting and therefore reduce the possibility of
    corruption?

    OS, version of iTunes, etc....
    Is this on a computer or iOS device?
    iPods can change the playback speeds, but in iTunes on desktop/laptop, it could be caused by other programs.

  • P2 clip imported through FCP plays in high speed

    I shot an event a week back and have close to 300GB of interview footage. I logged all the footage in FCP and all is fine except one clip imports in super high speed.
    I have trashed prefs, repaired permissions ans reset the in out points but this clip just keeps getting sped up on import.
    Anyone else have this problem?

    Open up the converted Quicktime file. How does that play?
    What about importing it with FCP...how does it look then?
    While I'm thinking aloud, why can't clips be logged without being captured?
    Because that it the nature of P2. It isn't tape. Why would you log and not capture?
    And I for one am very against logging anything less than the full clip. Why? Well, what if you lose your hard drive...it dies? What then? Since you manually marked IN and OUT points, you won't be able to get the clips to reimport and reconnect unless you to it again...manually. If you import the full clips, and the drive dies. You import the full clips again and reconnect and BOOM...done. Fast.
    But that is me.
    Try importing using FCP...and also, see what the raw QT file looks like.

    Why does my new out of the box Apple TV play everything fast forward?

    I wondered that, can't see another reason unless the video is encoded oddly or with a very low fps and is being played at 25/30 fps somehow.

  • Is there a "replace files" bug in iTunes?  Plays fine in iTunes- not on Pod

    Hello, all. Long story short, I'm re-ripping all my CDs at a higher bit rate. I'm going from 128 Kbps AAC to 192 Kbps AAC (variable bit rate.) Now I'm having issues.
    So far, when iTunes asks me if I want to replace my existing files before I rip, I say "yes," but now I'm wondering if that's a big mistake due to a bug in iTunes. Why? Well, although the newly ripped album plays fine in iTunes and through my iPod (using it as a hard drive through the computer), once I disconnect my iPod and make it portable, the iPod will skip track #2 (for example) of a 9 track cd.
    I've reset my iPod - no change.
    I've deleted the album from my iPod and dragged it back on there - no change.
    I'm trying to track down the root of the problem. The replacement file is obviously fine, and even plays in another media player. Someone said "replacing" files is bad because iTunes doesn't replace gapless playback information, and it uses old data for your newly sized files. Is that the root of my problem? Does iTunes have a "replace existing files" bug? It's the only thing I can think of. A solution would be to have iTunes re-analyze all my iTunes tracks for gapless playback and other data, but that doesn't seem to be an iTunes option. Any ideas? Re-ripping the cd is not an option. (But for all you whistle blowers, rest assured it was a cd I bought, so everything is legal.)

    Have you updated your iPod and iTunes sofware?
    most cases, iTunes can play these high quality songs, which is meant for newer mobile devices like  iPhones, iPod Touch, nano and iPad, which the older iPod cant play, but only playable with iPod classic sofware version 2.0.4
    most likely it is an incompatible song format, read this Apple support article.

    If  your iPod software is version 1.1.2, then you have to use lower quality format.
    Can you select the problematic song, and Advance -> create iPod version

    Welcome to the Apple community.
    Try deleting the problematic tune (electing to remove original file if/when prompted) and then re-downloading the file from the iTunes store.
    You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.
    You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option at the bottom of the screen of the iTunes app on your iOS device.
    If the problem re-occurs, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History using your computer.

  • Helium: Audiobooks play at Fast speed on startup

    Lately my otherwise well-behaved 4GB Nano has defaulted to the faster of the three voice speeds for audiobooks when I switch it on.
    I can cure the effect by temporarily stopping/pausing playback of the audiobook in question and selecting 'Normal' in the Audiobook Setting menu.
    Anyone else have this - and know of the reason and a fix?

    FYI I brought my 1stGen 1Gb Nano back to a Genius at the AppleStore at Westfarms in CT, 9/22/06.
    Same problem ... after long sleep (at least a day) it does a quick (less than 2 seconds) black apple, reboot then the audio book (from audible) plays back at very high speed (sounds like chipmunks).
    This Nano was purchased new in June 2006 and has AppleCare.
    I was told that he checked the genius database and that "Apple is awhare of the problem but, is NOT repairing or replacing the defective units.".
    I was then told, "AppleCare repairs or replacements are strictly at Apple's discretion and in this case they will not do either."
    I asked if this was a problem that I caused and was told, "No. Apple is 'studying' this issue and has not determined if it is a hardware or software problem."
    I asked if I would be notified when it was fixed and was told, "No".
    The red faced tech suggested I Revert the Nano from the v1.2.1 and I did, to v1.2 but it made no difference.
    I even offered my Nano, since the problem is completely reproducible and he said, "No. We have plenty of them."
    I asked how long before I should check back for a fix and was told, "it shouldn't take years".
    In other words, don't hold your breath! They've moved on to the second generation Nanos and don't support the 1st gen anymore, obviously!
    3 months old and obsolete! Amazing.
    Sorry to be the bearer of such bad news! I plan to use my Amex Gold Card's 1 year warranty on electronic purchases. Unfortunately, this won't do anything for the $50 I invested on AppleCare. For that, I am just stuck!

  • I downloaded audiobook from iTunes. It comes in 2 parts. Part one will not play, only part 2. When I tried to sync to ipod or iphone it prompted,"file could not be reaf from or written to".Can I fix this issue?

    I just purchased and downloaded an audiobook from iTunes. I tried to sync it to iPhone 4 and iPod Classic but with both devices got a message"file could not be read from to written to".  Then I tried to play the audiobook in iTunes and realized that only part 2 of my 2 part download will play. Part 1 will not play. Is this why I got the message? Is there any way to get another try at downloading my audiobook I just paid $15 for??

    As long as you use your computer like King Penguin stated for Report a Problem, you should be fine. If you can't get to your computer, are not using your computer, or your computer is not longer in the mix since you have been using your iPad, email iTunes support about the problem.

  • I've installed bootcamp 4.0 on my iMac 27. Everything works superb, but for playing need for speed run or battlefield 3 I need catalyst driver 11.7 or higher. How can I update my graphics? Is there a possibility except waiting for a new bootcamp version?

    But how do you install the drivers if Bootcamp is running interference?
    Bottom line, I'ev tried to install three different versions of updated ATI driver sover the last few momnths and on each and every occassion have ended up with the original Bootcamp driver. A number of current games are unplayable on a Mac running Bootcamp as a result.
    And if I can't run the software I want, then Bootcamp is as useless as boobs on a bull.

  • Unable to play or import audiobooks in iTunes 12

    Since installing the latest version of iTunes (12.1.1.4 x64) in Win 7 I have been unable to import Audible audiobooks into iTunes.  Also Audible books already in my iTunes library won't play.  When I try to play them I receive a message stating I must authorize this computer for my Audible account.  When I enter my name and password they are accepted, but the book selection does not play.  When I try again the same authorization message appears - an infinite loop!  Similarly on trying to import books I receive the same message for each section being imported, but after filling the info nothing is imported.
    I have uninstalled and re-installed all of the iTunes components several times and I have tried deauthorizing both my computer and Audible account and then authorizing them again.  All to no effect.  My laptop is running iTunes 12.1.0.74 and has no problems at all.  Has anyone else encountered this difficulty?  I can't find 12.1.0.74 and I would like to install it.  The place where Apple has earlier versions doesn't seem to include 12.1.0.74.  If anyone can direct me to this version I would be grateful.
    I have had other problems with 12 and wonder if it has introduced more problems than it solves.

    My contact with Audible produced a solution very quickly.  Obviously the changes in iTunes 12 took Audible by surprise as well.  I quote below the solution as it was sent to me by Audible.  After installing the new version of Download Manager I found that everything worked as it should so didn't have to follow the last three instructions.
    "With the release of iTunes 12.1 there have been reported issues with the automatic import feature for the Audible Download Manager which forces customers to manually import their titles. To address this, Audible has released an update for the Audible Download Manager. Please follow the steps below to install the update.
    → First ensure that your current Audible Download Manager is closed.
    → Click on this link and save the file: http://download.audible.com/AM50/AudibleDM_6.0.0.18_iTunesSetup.exe
    → Locate the file in your Downloads folder. Right click on it and then select the option "Run as administrator" and follow the installation process.
    Once that is done:
    → Head back to your library: http://www.audible.com/lib/
    → Click on download for one of your books.
    → Please allow it to download and check to see if it automatically imports into iTunes."

    What happens when playing the same books in iTunes. Is there sound after 15 min?
    If also silent in iTunes, check the info tab where you can see the item is an audiobook, etc. Check the volume bar, this normally is on the zero point.
    When an audio book is really low in audio, I tend to move this to the plus side (+1=max), but for some strange reason this bar was at -1 in some books I had and they also seemed to play in absolute silence.

    We just bought the ipad and when we play videos on vimeo or youtube they play at an ultra high speed like the fps is messed up - it sounds like a record being played too fast

    Have your rebooted/restarted your iPad? you do that by pressing the Home and power/sleep button at the same time until the slider to power off the iPad appears. Slide the slider and when screen activity stops depress the two buttons again until the Apple logo appears. When the iPad completes rebooting try again to see if that solved your problem.
