Audiobooks Library

Audiobooks downloaded from disk not appearing in Audiobooks subcategory of Library?

Hi and Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Where have you downloaded the Audiobooks from? Are they from Audiable.com of iTunes Store or have you ripped an Audiobook CD?
For directions on how to rip an Audibook CD check my earlier post:
RIP Audiobook from CD
Hope this helps.

  • Audiobooks from CD not appearing in "iTunes Audiobook Library"

I have the iTunes 7, I recently bought some audio books that were on CD & uploaded them to iTunes, they only appear in the Music Library in iTunes. I would like to have them only appear in the Audiobook Library in iTunes & in the Audiobook section in my ipod. Is there a way I can do this?
Note: I've already tried some suggestion from the web such as renaming the file extension from .m4a to m4b, removing the old tags then re adding them back to iTunes with no success.

I am having the same problem. It also exists with videos. Some video pieces that I create appear under "Movies" and the rest are scattered in my music library. All have a m4v extension. Weird!

  • Can my own audiobooks show up in the audiobooks library?

  • Audiobook from CD not in Audiobook Library

    Hello,
I've spent the last hour and a half trying to find an answer to this question on the support page.
I bought an audiobook on CD and imported it into iTunes as AAC. The book won't show up in the "Audiobook" library. I've arranged the info file in proper order and check it against my online purchased audiobooks; they info formated in the same way, ie order number, audiobooks as the genre etc. The only thing I could see, looking at the actual file in Finder, is that books bought on iTMS are .m4b, books from audible.com are .aa and the book I imported from CD are .m4a The CDs, 26 of them, were aiff files, not mp3.
So the question is: Can I get these files into the "Audiobook" library? Is there a trick in the file name? I have the CDs so I could rip again if there is something special I need to do for this.

Here's the very basic version of my method of importing audiobooks:
I import the CDs in AAC, which gives me .m4a files. I then run a script called "Make Bookmarkable" to change the file extension to .m4b. You could do this manually or with a file renamer and achieve the same result. I then remove the files from my library and re-add them.
Please note, iTunes will ask you what you want to do with the files you're deleting from the library. PLEASE make sure you click "Keep Them"! Moving them to the trash won't hurt, but if you accidentally empty the trash before you re-import the files you're sunk.
    You'll find the files in ~/Music/iTunes Library/Author Name/Book Title
    Hope that helps!

  • Where has my Audiobooks library Gone - 7.7.1.11

Upgraded to 7.7.1.11 yesterday and my audiobooks library has disappeared and I seem to have lost several books. I haven't yet synced my ipod as I don't want to lose the library on there. Anyone any idea on how I can either get it back or I can revert to a previous version??

Wait until Apple release a version of iTunes that works. DO NOT Sync with this release unless you want to wait an hour or two for the restore to run.

  • Music CD is in Audiobook Library

Yesterday I sat down to rip all the CDs my wife and I had bought over the past few months. Accidentally I imported the content as .mp3 rather than .aac which is what makes the next part odd. Just one of the CDs I imported lists in the Audiobook Library rather than the Music Library (I was under the impression only .m4b files could reside there).
I've tried all the settings I can find and all the Google/AD searches I've tried are guides on how to move items from Music to Audiobooks and not vice versa.
Does anyone have any idea how I can move this Album into Music?
    Cheers

    Once I engaged brain I:
    Converted to AAC
    Found files in Finder
Added to Library (they of course entered the Music Library)
Deleted MP3 files from Audiobook Library.
I don't know why this one Album got in that section but in the end it didn't take too long to fix.

  • Switching items from the Podcast  library to the Audiobooks library

I have several Podcast downloads that are actually serialised novels, and would prefer to have these stored in my Audiobooks library.
How can i change either which library they are originally allocated to on download, or (ii) move them from the Podcast library to the Audiobook library after download?
I have tried changing the Genre information etc to no avail. Drag and drop does not work.

How complicated this gets depends on what format the files are. To get into audiobboks section they have to be audible (.aa I think, never bought from iTunes) or AAC (more specifically .m4b extension). Most podcasts are mp3 format. If this is the case then you would have to convert them to m4a format then change extension to m4b.

  • How do i Add An Audiobook file to the Audiobook Library Folder????

I have an audiobook I've downloaded and want to put it in the folder under Library called Audiobooks so they are all together. How do I do this??? The Audiobook is currently in my music folder. Both the audiobooks and music folders are under the Library folder. I can't seem to move this file into the audiobook folder from the music folder. How is this done?????

You didn't indicate the source of your audiobook, so I'll try to cover both bases.
First base: If you bought your audiobook from Audible.com and have authorized your computer correctly, the audiobook should go into the built-in Audiobooks folder automagically after you've imported it. This is how I purchase audiobooks – I buy them from Audible, download them directly from Audible's site, then import them into iTunes. Audible spoken word files end with .aa .
Second base: If you did not get your audiobook from the iTunes Store or Audible, it appears you're out of luck. The Audiobooks folder in the Source Pane is for audiobooks from Audible or the iTunes Store only:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304706
However, you can make your own smart playlist for your audiobooks. Use 'Get Info' (command-I), choose 'Info', and set the genre of your audiobooks to 'Audiobook' or 'Spoken Word' (or whatever suits you). Then, make a smart playlist to catch them and ignore the default Audiobooks folder from then on.
When you sync your iPod, that playlist will show up under Music/Playlists, not on the iPod's Main Menu. You can then change the settings on your iPod to not show the prefab Audiobooks folder on the Main Menu.
It's not an elegant solution, but you'll have all your audiobooks together.

  • How do I get audiobooks into my audiobooks library

There is an audiobooks folder on my itouch but no corresponding folder/library in my itunes directory on my pc. Thus when I am on shuffle I suddenly get a chapter of a book instead of music. How can I get the audiobooks tab in my itunes folder please?

    Hello cardoacj,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
There are two different things you can do here. Each of these changes can be made from under each track's Options tab from the *Get Info* window in iTunes.
First you can tick the option to "Skip when shuffling" so that way you will never hear an audiobook chapter/track come up while on Shuffle.
Secondly you can change their *Media Type* to Audiobook as well using the drop down list under the same Options tab for each track.
Then sync the updated changes to your iPod.

  • Importing Audiobooks to iTunes-how to get them into "Audiobooks" library?

I own a lot of audio books I want to import into iTunes instead of lugging around the hardware anymore. If I insert a disc, it imports it as a music album, not in the "Audiobooks" section in the Library. I want to import in smallest mp3 size (fidelity is not an issue with audiobooks) and be able to access the files as Audiobooks rather than titled music albums. How do I do this? I can scan the covers, etc, as I do with Music when iTunes doesn't have the right cover art, but still don't know how to access the Audiobooks section in Library.

The definition of what is an Audiobook and what isn't is in the encoding of the tracks - I recall that files with m4a, mp4 or mp3 file extensions are tracks and not audiobook files.
Only files with .m4b can be audiobook files but that still isn't enough - the file properties also have to have their file type set to be audiobook and not music tracks.
Its a PITA but the encoding from aCD has these issues whereas the purchased audiobooks I have from iTunes, come in the right format and end up in the right place.

  • How do you transfer Audiobooks into the 'Audiobooks' library?

My audiobooks join the 'Music' library as soon as I import them from CD's and I don't know how to transfer them to 'Audiobooks'. Please help me, thanks.

Import as AAC. I combine tracks so that I get 1 file per CD. delete imported filed from library without deleting files. In Explorer, navigate to where files are. Change .m4a extension to .m4b. In iTunes use add file or add folder function to re-add files to library.
