Audiobooks mp3 files not showing up in iTunes or on shuffle?

I recently purchased some audio books that are mp3. They were a zip file, and I extracted the files, but they won't show up in iTunes. I attempted to just drage the files onto my shuffle (which appeared to work, as I received a "copying" message), but they aren't showing up there either. Help!

Starting from scratch...
Extract the files from the zipped folder. In Windows 7, right-click the zipped folder and select Extract All...
You should be given an option about where you want to put the extracted files. If not, or it you need to move those files, the usual place to put them is in the Music/iTunes/iTunes Music folder. I suggest that you put audiobooks in a folder named Audiobooks (to keep things organised). You must move them before importing them into iTunes. If you move them afterwards, iTunes will lose them. If there is not currently an Audiobooks folder in iTunes, then create one. So looking into the folders, the path should be as follows:
Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/Audiobooks/<artist name>/<album title>/ and then the individual MP3s.
Once you have the MP3s where you want them, it should be possible to drag the folder into iTunes. Alternatively, in iTunes;
so that you can then select Add Folder to Library;
and simply navigate to the folder that has the audiobook files in and add.
That's it. They are now in your iTunes Library.
However, you will probably find that the files import into your iTunes as Music files, and you may want to change them to Audiobooks. To do that, in iTunes, find the files you have just imported, highlight all of them and then select File/Get Info/Options>Media Kind and change the Media Kind to Audiobooks.

  • MP3 files not showing in iTunes on new iMac

Hi - I have recently purchased my first Mac computer.  I have copied over all of my music but it seems that all the MP3 files are not playing.  It's strange they show in my folder list of itunes and it lets me play them, but in the main itunes folder itself it shows the item with an ! (exclamation mark) saying file could not be found.  Any ideas greatly appreciated
    Thanks

First, iTunes' default settings are for it to copy music to the iTunes folder structure when you add them (but leave the original in place, although it no longer refers to it), and for iTunes to manage your music for you in a very specific folder structure.
Second, the listing you see in iTunes is not generated by iTunes directly referring to your files.  It keeps a library database of the files you have added and in those listings it keeps all the information about that track, including its location on your drive. When you play a track, iTunes uses that listing to go find the media file and play it.
If you do any file renaming, manually deleting, or moving of files and folders, or anything to break that link between where iTunes' library thinks your file is and where it actually is (or was, if you deleted it), you get "!"
You say you are able to play them but iTunes cannot find them.  It would help to know how you are playing them if iTunes cannot find them.  Are you playing them in Quicktime?  Also, you say you see the files, but are they in the iTunes folder structure (assuming you use default settings), or are these the originals?

  • Ringtone file not showing up in itunes

when i open itunes, the file where ringtones goes on the top, next to apps, movies, or music, does not show up. how do i get or create a file for ringtones so that i can sync with my iphone?

Open Edit > Preferences > General tab, make sure Tones (formerly Ringtones) is ticked.
This label changed with iTunes 10.5.1.42 which also changes the folder used to store Tones in the media folder.

  • MP3 files not showing up in published folder

    Hi everyone,
A newbie question here: I have completed my site and published it to a folder, for later uploading to a webhost. I took a peek in my published folder and could not find any of the MP3 files that I had put on to my site. While I was creating the site, I dragged the MP3 files from iTunes to iWeb. Everything played just fine. But I'm figuring if I don't see any MP3 files in the published folder, they're not there.
    Suggestions?
    Thanks!

Oy -- never mind. I found the files. See, I am a newbie...

  • Audiobook purchased is not showing up in iTunes

I purchased an audiobook on my iPad and it is not showing up on my iPhone or my MAC computer. I went to iTunes on my home computer and I see the receipt for the purchase but it doesn't show up in my library? Any ideas? Thanks.

Thanks Neil. I was told I should purchase/download audiobooks to my computer first if I want them to sync to my other devices (apparently there's some glitch with audiobooks). I wasn't aware of this but I just tried it and downloaded it to my computer and now it shows up on my iPhone, etc.. Thanks.

  • File not showing up inside iTune

Hi. I have some albums I bought from iTunes store that came with a pdf album liner file. The pdf liner used to show up inside iTunes, but they no longer do, even though they are inside the correct folder and can be seen via Finder. When I add them to iTunes library via File -> Add to Library the liner just gets moved to Unknown Artist/Unknown Album folder.
How do I add the pdf liner files so that they can be seen from inside iTunes within the correct album? Thanks.

  • MP3 files not showing in iTunes after importing from Windows PC

I have my MP3 music files saved on my computer. For some reason when I try to import a particular folder to iTunes Library, only 3 of the 11 files in the folder show up. Why aren't the other 8 showing up? Can anybody help me with this?

For one of the problem files, right-click it and choose Open With > iTunes.
If the file is compatible, it will start playing and be added to the library.
If iTunes "errors silently" (i.e. does nothing) it means the file is incompatible.  If you are sure it is a valid MP3, treat it with a 3rd party tag cleanup program such as Mp3Val.  That usually suffices to make iTunes happy.

  • Pages files not showing up in iTunes

I have documents that I created on the iPad using Pages.
I have manually backed up using iVloud and This Computer in iTunes.
In iTunes when I go to Apps, File Sharing and click on Pages, no files show up.
Can you tell me how to get them to show?
    Cheers, Mike

I don't have the Pages app, but it's help page says :
Export a document to your computer:
    1. Open the document you want to export, and then tap in the toolbar.
    2. Tap “Share and Print,” and then tap “Send to iTunes.”
    3. Tap the document format you want to export to: Pages, PDF, or Microsoft Word.
    4. Connect your iOS device to your computer and open iTunes on your computer. After a moment, your iOS device appears in the left side of the iTunes window (under Devices).
    5. In iTunes, select your iOS device, and then click Apps.
    6. Scroll to the bottom of the Apps window, and then select Pages (in the Apps list under File Sharing).
    7. Select the name of the document you want to transfer to your computer and click “Save to.”
    8. In the window that appears, navigate to the location where you want to store the document, and then click Open.

  • The burn command does not show in the iTunes file.  I recently upgraded to Yosemite.  How do I retrieve the burn function? thanks

    Have Macbook  late 2009
    2 GB
    iOS 10.10.2 (recent,y upgraded)
The 'burn to disc' function does not show in the iTunes 'file'.
How can I restore this feature?

Where are you looking for the "Burn"?
You should be seeing it, when you select a playlist or a smart playlist in the sidebar and then use the command "File > Burn Playlist to ..." or ctrl-click or right click the playlist and select the Burn command from the pop-up menu.
    Does it not show there?

  • Sync'd files not showing up in Podcasts

Having two issues with podcasts. I am using OSX 10.10 beta and iPhone 6+ 8.0.2
I have many mp3 files that i import into iTunes and then change media type to podcast so that i can use the Podcast app on iPhone to play them with the skip ahead / skip back buttons.
First problem is that it sometimes takes multiple syncs before the files are transferred over to iPhone even though they are marked as new and unplayed.
Also, sometimes the file will be synced across to the iPhone and will NOT be shown in the pod cats app although they are there when i do spotlight search on the phone and are listed under podcasts. I have checked all the settings on the podcast app to show all episodes, etc but still having this issue.
I tried changing type to audiobook and again same issue arises in that takes many tries before the files are actually synced over and then not "seen" by the music app as audiobook files although they are clearly on the phone.
    Any ideas?

When you say you "have podcasts", how did the files get on to your computer?
I have subscribed to Podcasts in iTunes and I can confirm that (like RobHoward7) I also have some of those Podcasts showing up in the *Music library*, but mine also appear in the *Podcasts library* . I was under the impression that all the tags in a Podcast were added by the Podcast's creator, not iTunes. This is because Podcasts are not specific to iTunes and not controlled by iTunes, it simply lists them and +goes off to download them+ if asked for by the user. If so, that seems to suggest that it's not iTunes at fault.

As a workaround, you may want to just create custom playlists...
As an enthusiast of Podcasts, I can say that for various reasons workarounds are definitely not the answer.
My older iPod, (30Gb video) has just returned from "battery replacement surgery" (well actually, the whole thing has been replaced, not repaired) and now some Podcasts are showing up in the music library whereas they did not do so before the repair. Perhaps this is a software problem, because I noticed that my "replacement" iPod has a different model number to the one I gave them.

  • Imported songs not showing up in iTunes

Just imported a CD. They are not in my iTunes library, but the files are there in the directory on the back end. I even watched iCloud upload them, but the tracks are not showing up in iTunes even when searching for them. Any ideas?!?!?

I have this same problem. Import songs from CD or from a MP3 Folder or if I add a movie, nothing shows up in itunes.
If I do a search of the media folder in iTunes I can see it there. Even My Apple TV can see the uploads and play them.
This all seems to have started after the latest update to Lion.
I have downloaded iTunes again and reinstalled it but it made no difference.
iTunes is importing ok it's just not displaying the newly imported items :-(

  • Having problem with playing audiobook .mp3 files

I have downloaded some audiobook mp3 files. I can transfer them fine to the Ipod, but when I choose the file to play, it goes through all the steps right up to the playing of the mp3 file, then the backlight shuts off, the screen wipes out and the white apple logo comes on and reboots into the main menu screen list.
As long as I continue to choose these audiobook mp3 files the Ipod will continue to reboot and not play the file.
I have downloaded the same audiobooks on 2 different occasions, and the same thing happens. The files do play through the iTunes library list from my computer.
Any ideas on how to solve this?? I don't have any problems playing any of the other audio book mp3 files that I have dragged and dropped onto the Ipod.
