Audiobooks not working

After powering on, I can listen to music just fine. If I then switch over to listen to a Audiobook (form Audible), the books show up just fine but will not play. When I click on the play button nothing happens. If I hit the play button a second time (which should switch it to pause), again, nothing happens - the play button is still there Finally, if I go back and try to listen to regular music, the music plays but there is no sound.
I have 1.1.3. I never tried this under 1.1.2.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

I've got exactly the same issue... had three audiobooks on my 16gb iTouch, updated iTunes yesterday, and now they have been removed from the pod following a sync. Biggest issue is I can't find any Audiobooks folder to select to sync anymore!
Whats happened? I've managed to employ a fix of creating by creating an Audiobooks music playlist.. but would prefer the previous method.

  • Audiobook not working correctly on iphone 4

Hello, I downloaded and audiobook that is over 10 hours and came in two parts. The first part played fine, I listened and got into the story, but now the second portion is not working. The first part was in black and the second part is on my phone but in greyed text. I can't select the second part to listen. When I do to check in itunes, it stated that the book is downloaded. Sorry I am not very technical so if there is more information needed, please let me know. Any advice would be appreciated!

Do you sync Bookmarks? if so do any of your other devices contain similer entries?

  • Audiobooks not working after new iTunes installation

My hard drive recently crashed and I've had to setup all of my iTunes library again. The problem I am having is on my audiobooks. iTunes will not allow me to add them to my library and when I try to open the files manually I get the following error...
"Error -2048: Couldn't open the file **.m4b because it is not a file the QuickTime understands."
I made sure that my software was updated and it is. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

The type of password protection you use to protect your wireless network, in your case WPA-PSK/TKIP, has no bearing on whether iTunes Home Sharing can work or not. That type of password protection is there to keep other people within the vicinity of your wireless network from being able to join your network and gain access to the files on your computers.
The key to Home Sharing is that every computer or device that wants to participate must be on the same network and that they are all using the same Apple ID. Provided you are all joining the same network, you will know you are if you are all joining a network of the same name, and using the same password, then Home Sharing should work. The other thing is that all the computers and devices have Home Sharing turned on using the same Apple ID.
If nothing else changed other than the router, the network name, the password to join the wireless network and the type of encryption used to secure that network then once those computers joined the wireless network Home Sharing should have continued to work as it did before.
What I suggest is that you turn Home Sharing off and then on again on each computer or device making sure you are using the same Apple ID.
Also, turn on Library Sharing, this is done in the preferences for iTunes, as see if you can access each others shared iTunes library that way. Library Sharing only works between computers, iPhones can't participate, and does not require Apple IDs or a link to iTunes to work.
See my post in the thread I've linked to below to learn how to turn on Home Sharing, Library Sharing and how to identify the difference.

  • Audiobooks not working properly

I'm doing a software restore on my ipod touch right now but I transferred all my files from my old computer to a new one and when everything was working fine I found a problem that in my audiobook when I start up a book normally it does it thing by "your listening" but then when I swipe to the time I needed on screen it moved but the audio didn't change at all so I removed the books and reinstalled them and problem what am I doing wrong?

Dennis, the first thing you should do is check what happens when you rip the CD. If the name of the book, the author (or reader) and a better title than "track 01, track 02, etc" doesn't show up, Gracenotes hasn't got any info on it.
To solve that relatively quickly, you can type in the info and send it to Gracenotes, and then it will be available for everyone (including you).
Now, that won't take care of iTunes and your iPod still seeing them as music, but at least you'll know what you have and can sequence it properly. Someone tipped me off to this site http://oakroadsystems.com/genl/itunsabk.htm and I've used their method with great success.
    Hope it helps you!

  • Audiobooks not working on iPhone

I'm having a problem adding audiobooks to my iPhone 4S (iOS 8.2). When I add the file it will play fine when listed under music as soon as I change it to audiobook (get info>options>media kind=audiobook) the book will no longer play on the iPhone or through the "On My Device" section of iTunes. It will try to play once on the iPhone but close soon after without playing the file at all, which will then disappear, and iTunes just shows an exclamation point that provides no information at all. Does anyone know how to fix this? I can play audiobooks fine on my iPod Touch using this method but it cannot be updated beyond iOS 5.1.1.

I have the same problem. I have tried selectively quitting the Videos app and restarting, to no avail.  Rebooting phone does not solve it either.
In addition, I have one movie, which played perfectly on my iPhone 4, but which does not play beyond a certain point.  It crashes the Videos app.

  • New audiobook not working

Yesterday I downloaded an audiobook from the App Store using a gift card I received from Apple when I purchased my computer.  When I went to play it, I would hear the first second of the book and then it would stop playing.  I even tried resetting my Mac but no matter how many times I try to listen to it, the same thing keeps happening.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

If you downloaded an audiobook from iTunes, those apps are designed for iOS based devices such as iPad,s' iPhones, and the iPod touch.
They can't be used on a Mac. Two different operating systems.

Hmm.. Thank you for the response.
Have you tried using the iPod with another user account or computer, to help narrow down whether the problem lies with the computer, account, or the iPod itself?
Maybe try reformatting it, using the tools provided by Windows. Instructions on how to reformat your iPod can be found in this article.

Downgrading the iOS is not supported by Apple.Have yo tried:

  • HTML5 does not work in Android 5 and Ubuntu

Hi! Today my tablet Google Nexus 7 updated to Android 5, and I noticed a problem with Firefox. I noticed that does not work HTML5 mp3 player / It can be seen on the website http://audiobook-online.com/?page_id=2971. Instead of playing a song, it is suggested to download the file. This same problem in Ubuntu system on a netbook Emachine M350. In Google Chrome everything is fine. This can be seen in the screenshots.

Yes this is a known issue. You will need to use Firefox Beta until Dec 1 or so to get h264 video playback. There are two other codecs webm and ogg video that continue to function. So sites that support multiple formats should continue to work.

  • Ipod touch 5th generation overheating and now sound is not working properly

Got an ipod touch 5th gen a few days ago and it has been working well for the first few days, then last night it came up with an 'overheat' message and turned itself off.  I was surprised as it wasn't working particularly hard when it overheated, just plugged into a speaker system playing an audiobook.  After cooling down and recharging the battery, I was able to turn the ipod back on again, but realised this morning when I tried to watch a video on it that there was no sound coming from the internal speaker.  Also when headphones are plugged in the sound is really crackly.  (the level of crackle changes when you change the volume - it is most crackly in the middle of the volume range and clearer when it is louder).  Before it overheated, it had none of these issues.  Also, it now seems to take longer to charge the battery, and the battery doesn't seem to hold it's charge as long.  Is there anything I can do at home to fix these issues (as we live in a remote area)?

Try the following but I thing your iPod is defective
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store if it still does not work OK

  • ITunes 12 - old style Get Info using Shift-Click not working

I've become accustomed to using iTunes 12, but because I have for a number of years utilised most of the fields available in the older version Get Info screens (not available by default in iTunes 12) in order to create and manage smart playlists, I have been relying on retaining that access by using <Shift-Click> to bring them up.  Alarmingly today I've attempted to access the old style Get Info screens only to discover that the <Shift-Click> option is seemingly not working!
As I hadn't heard of a change to this feature, nor can I find anything on the net about it, I am just wondering if anyone else is having this problem, and if so, does anyone know of a workaround?  I keep my versions of iTunes up to date and recently downloaded the latest version (to 12.1.0.71), so perhaps a change was included in that update?
Without easy access to those fields I may as well give up iTunes and go fly a kite, so any advice will be gratefully received!
    Cheers.

Access to the "old style" metadata editors has been dropped from iTunes 12.1 - I suspect that it was left in 12.0, with the shift right-click option, only because the new style editors were somewhat unstable/unfinished.  In most cases all the fields that were available pre iTunes 12 are available in 12.1.  Admittedly, the layout is a little counter-intuitive as you may have to scroll up/down, or expand the window by dragging one of its corners, to see everything.  One issue that some have noted is that the available metadata elements are now more constrained based on media kind - for example, track and disc number fields that used to be universally available are no longer displayed or editable for TV Shows and Movies.  There are also some strange inconsistencies - for example, that the Description element for audiobooks is only available for single items but not for groupings of two or more items, including albums.
For Music it looks like 12.1 has all the same fields available as were in iTunes 11.  For a single song you get this (Details and Sorting tab):
and for an album (or any selection of two or more songs) the corresponding tabs are:
Depending on the fields you use for your smart playlists you may find that the editors in iTunes 12.1 will work fine, though it may take a while to get used to the new layout.  If there still is a "back door" to the old style editors in 12.1 I've not seen any reports of what it is!

  • Overdrive Media console not working with iTunes when transferring audio books.  Any suggestions?

Overdrive Media console not working with iTunes when transferring audiobooks.  Some parts don't transfer.

Robin, I have the 4S too. Here's wha I've been doing. Well, I am downloading wma books, but it is super time consuming and annoying. First, shut off genius in your preferences in iTunes. Also change to spoken podcast for speed. Then, you start to transfer from Overdrive. It will create a playlist with your book title. Open up books though because you need to keep an eye on it. It may download like three parts and then you may have a grey one. When you get the grey, cancel the transfer, delete the greyed part, exit iTunes, re-enter iTunes, and then try to download the remaining book parts. I usually have to re-enter iTunes three or four different times during a book. When your book is downloaded, all black and none grey, open up the playlist folder and double check that all parts made it in there. If not, carry them from the books folder to the playlist and then move it into numerical order.
Re non bookmarking problem. I now have a new habit of checking what part I am on before i shut off my phone or switch to another book. It does save where you were, it just doesn't show you. For instance, if I start part three and then play music, and then go back to the book playlist, it will appear as if we are back to the beginning, but if I go to part three, it will start up from where I was. So, just start checking and then it is easy. I am flabbergasted that no other proper solution has been offered by Overdrive. This has been a problem since October. I also wish they would acknowledge the problem on their website as well as post what version number of update they have. I have 3.2.1.0 and think that's current. Does anyone have newer than this. Good luck, and happy commuting!
An easy, quick workaround is to plug external speakers into your laptop and take it with you in the car. A bit unwieldy, but I can't commute without books.

  • Audiobooks not transferring

I had 2 audiobooks on my iPhone 4s that worked up to today.  When I clicked on the one I was listening to the phone went to the screen to play and then directly back to the list of audiobooks and did not play.  I hooked up my phone up to my computer (windows computer) and synced and now I don't have the audiobooks page listed at all in my music app.  In my "on my iPhone" page in iTunes it shows 2 audiobooks in light grey but nothing is showing up on my phone.
I have tried to not sync the audiobooks and then also synced the audiobooks sections but neither idea worked.
Please help!  I need my books.

Audiobooks not appearing in Audiobooks on iPod but do display in Music
I had this problem also. I eventually did get the audiobook to appear in the audiobooks folder. Step 1) Start iTunes and Connect iPod → Highlight Devices for iPod → Select Open iTunes when this iPod is connected → Select Restore (make sure all your music and audiobooks etc are stored in the iTunes application → Wait for iPod to complete the updating process → Check automatically sync songs and video to my iPod and press done → Wait for iPod to finish updating. Step 2) Select language on iPod → Settings → Main Menu → Turn Off Music, Artists, Albums, Compilations, Songs → Turn On Playlists and Audio Books → Press Menu 2 Times. Now you should only see the selections that you have turned on; Playlists, Audiobooks etc. 3) Under Playlists select Front Row Play List, this should contain your Music → Audiobooks should contain your Audiobooks.
    Hope this helps
