Audiobooks questions

I have a second generation nano. I am running iTunes 7 on a XP PC. I have a few questions about audiobooks. First, I have 3 complete books bought from iTunes that I have transfered to my nano. From the documentation I have read, it sounds to me like you are able to skip "chapters" by pressing the FF button. When I do this, the nano skips to the next "part" of the audiobook. What I mean is when I bought these books, they came down in multiple parts (ie. Rainbow 6 part 1 of 3...and so on.)So, since I have 3 books all with multiple parts when I hit the ff button it skips to the next part in line whether it is part of the same book or not. Is this normal? It would make sense to me that hitting the FF button would skip to the next chapter in a selected book and then stop at the end of that book. I have read on a few posts that some folks are combining the parts into one mp4b file (if I got the file extension right). This makes sense to me but how do you go about merging the files into one.
I am more concerned with the chapter question. I have both a printed version and a iTuens downloaded version of the same book which I would like to read and listen to. It would be great if I could skip chapters on the audio version instead of trying to seek to the desired spot.
I know this is a little long in the tooth but I wanted to be as clear as possible.

I'm not a big audiobook user, but does anything here help?

I figured it out ... I turned off Shuffle and the books flow straight through now. (I didn't think Shuffle affected these files since they were saved as audiobooks instead of as music, but it did.)

  • Importing CD Audiobooks question

    Hi
I was wondering if there is a way to get audiobooks on CD that I import into my iTunes library to be included on the Audiobooks library?
I have the genre chosen as audiobook, but it's still included in my Music library. I'd like to have it in the audiobooks library for easy access.
    Thanks!

Go to this page for a script to make them bookmarkable files so they will show up in the Audiobooks Library. It works well.
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=makebookmarkable
Or the best solution I found was to use Join Together also by the same guy. It takes your files (every track from one audiobook cd) and joins them into one file then makes them bookmarkable and adds them as an Audiobook. That way you don't have so many files and you can still pick up from where you left off in the larger file because it keeps track of that for you.

  • Audiobook question before buying x fi style

    Hi all,
I'm thinking about buying the x fi style. I currently have a zen vision which I use mainly to listen to audiobooks on but
there is a problem with it playing long tracks where fastforward, rewind and bookmarking don't work with tracks over about 20minutes. Can anyone that has the player tell me if they have this same problem? Also I was wondering if you can bookmark videos or put videos in a playlist with the x fi style.
    Thanks!!!
    BON

I'll say one thing, based on subjecti've listening tests and compared to my Audigy 2 ZS...it does "sound" better, the X-FI that is...the sound is more "punchy" and upfront, low frequencies are more audible.
Thanks for answering about the 2meg on the Xtrememusic. I am gonna hold out for a PCI Express version of the X-Fi. By that time more games will support X-RAM + independent reviewers will be able to test and see if there is any real world advantage by then.
Right now i think alot of people are playing a waiting game and can't justify the high price of the Fatalty, which is a pitty as i am sure lots of people would have bought the X-Fi with the X-RAM if it came on it's own without the I/O panel and extra $$. If it retailed around $80 i guarantee people would have chosen that over the Xtrememusic or Fatalty.

  • Audiobook question (PLEASE HELP!)

I know now that it is impossible to download audiobook cds and put them on an audiobook fille on your ipod (But if this is possible please tell me how). But is there any way to keep these downloaded audiobooks out of your songs file in your ipod and put them in another file?

I know now that it is impossible to download
audiobook cds and put them on an audiobook fille on
your ipod (But if this is possible please tell me
    how).
It is possible. What you need to do is to encode the audio from the CD's into an AAC file, and then rename the *.M4A file into an *.M4B file. That's basically it.
I usually rip each CD to a single WAV file (using ExactAudioCopy), then combine the WAVs together with a program called WAVCat. Then I put the WAV in iTunes and encode it to a low bitrate AAC (like between 32 and 64 kbps.. voice doesn't need a high bitrate). Then I rename it, play it in iTunes, and voila. Works just fine, and the iPod will recognize it as an actual audiobook and treat it accordingly.

  • Audiobook Question

I just noticed that my audiobooks show up in both the "Audiobook" category and the "Songs" category. Not surprisingly, I can play an Audiobook by selecting it in "Songs." I'm unable to duplicate and/or confirm this condition in iTunes.
    Is this normal?

If you are going to music>songs on iPod then yes this is normal.

  • How do you import separate audiobooks from one CD as one audiobook?

Is it possible to import a group of separate audiobooks from the same CD as one audiobook? How?

  • Deleting song from nano second generation

I can not seem to delete a song(s) from my nano. I tryed to follow the instructions in Itunes but could not figure them out.
Also I wanted to install an Audio Book that I own in the Audio Book Catagory but all I could seem to do was get it to install in the Music Catagory.
    Any help would be great!!!!

There are several methods of deleting songs from the iPod and/or iTunes, and the method you choose depends on the settings you have selected for your iPod.
If you have the iPod set to automatically transfer songs, and you no longer want a copy of those songs on either the iPod or in iTunes, simply delete the songs in iTunes. Highlight the songs you no longer want then right click and select "clear", or from the edit menu select "clear". Next time you connect the iPod, the songs will be deleted from there also.
Only do this if you no longer want the songs on both the iPod and your computer.
You can also use the "only update checked songs" method in the iPod options (right click on the iPod in the source list in iTunes and select options, then select "only update checked songs"). With this preference checked, you can remove the check mark from the songs in iTunes that you no longer want on the iPod. The next time you connect the iPod, those unchecked songs will be removed from the iPod whilst still being retained in iTunes. You can check and uncheck songs as you change your mind about what songs you want to put on the iPod.
If you have the iPod set to manually manage your songs, and you want to delete the song from the iPod only, then select the iPod in the source list of iTunes, or click on the "music" option underneath it to show all your songs. Highlight the song(s) you no longer want on the iPod, right click and select "clear", or use the edit menu as previously mentioned.
This method only deletes the songs from the iPod, so if you no longer want the song in iTunes also, you'll need to delete it from there separately using the method above.
If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, all these settings can be found in the summary screen.
If you want to delete everything from the iPod and completely erase the hard drive and start from scratch, then you can restore the iPod to factory settings.
Only do this if you have the songs in your iTunes library, or a back up somewhere other than the iPod itself.
Don't know the answer to your audiobook question. I don't use them.

  • Tried to use home sharing to transfer itunes library from old pc to new -- however it only brings over the music, did not bring audiobooks- My question is do I need to delete itunes from my new pc when I redo using external hard drive

Trying to transfer iTunes library from old windows 7 pc to new windows 8.1.  Used home sharing, but not what I wanted, I want everything on the new so I can discard the old pc -  so now all I have is my music library on new pc thru the cloud none of my Audible audiobooks came over - My question is do I need to delete iTunes off my new pc before I load it in from a external hard drive?

You might need to make sure neither is going to sleep (System Prefs > Energy Saver)
Also check your settings under System Prefs > Security. My sisters new laptop kept logging off due to some setting there.

  • Question about long audiobook files before I buy Zen Mi

I am in the market to buy a hard dri've MP3 player for the purpose of playing audio books. Specifically, I want to download audio books from my local library's netlibrary account and listen to them on the go (these files are 32kbps DRM WMAs). These files have caused problems for two different players I have tried, due to their long length (most files are over 00MB, and play for 8+ hours). I have an old iRi'ver flash player, which will play these files fine, until you get about 4 hours into the file. Then, when you turn off the player, the time elapsed jumps from where you were to 2 hours or so. What this means is that you can't listen to the entire book unless you play the book for its entire duration without stopping it or turning it off. I next tried a Rio Carbon, but it has a different problem. Every time you turn off the Carbon and turn it back on, it will lose it's place in the file by 0min-hour, depending on how long the track is and how much you have listened to. The only ways around this is to either never turn the player off, or write down the time elapsed before you turn off the player, and then fast forward to that time when you turn the Carbon back on. After fighting with it for a week, I returned the Carbon.
So my question is, has anyone actually used a Zen Micro to listen to a very long audiobook, and does it have any weird issues like I have experienced with other players? All I want the thing to do is remember where I left off when I power off the device, within a few seconds.
    Thanks

Lots of people have audio books on their micros and i havent head of anyone complaining about them. one good feature the micro has that i believe other dont is the ability to place book marks in a song/audio book at a set time so you can automatically go to where you want without searching.so you could save the book marks for each chapter or something.

  • Zen Vision 30 Gb Audiobook Bookmarking and Resume Questions/Probl

Hi and thanks to everyone in advance for your responses.
I have spent some time searching the message board concerning my situation, which I will explain in a minute, but first I wanted to let everyone know that I have tried to do some research, but I am interested in the way in which these problems apply to my situation, and if anyone has suggestions or fixes. (Whew! quite a runon)
I spent a significant amount of time (~ 2 years) saving for a MP3 player, and after much debate decided that the most important feature was the ability to bookmark audio books. I have a 30 minute dri've to work, and have access to large amount of audio books and lectures in my profession. I therefore like to listen, depending on my mood to ) my music, 2) one of my audio books, or 3) one of the many audio lectures I have in my collection. Some times I may go for a week and stay with one thing, or I may switch things around and listen to one thing in the morning and a different thing in the evening. Since most of my time I am in my car when I listen, I had considered buying a MP3 capable CD player only, but Creative assured me that their product would meet all of my needs, and be portable.
The first part of my experience was just a promised. It was summer and I was also in the yard a lot, so I used the player constantly as a book and loved it. As my schedule has increased and as fall has approached I am now doing what I had initially intended and listen mainly in my car. So as you can imagine here is what happens:
)? I get in the car in the morning and turn on the player.........player loads...........and starts at the last track I was currently listening to. Except that I listen to audio books, and depending on the books some have 6 minute tracks and others have 45-50 minute tracks. As some of you know the track has reset. I now have to start fast forwarding through the track to find my previous spot. I know what some of you are thinking. You bought this player for the bookmarking feature that you spent considerable time talking with creative reps on the phone about and if you use that then you won?t have this problem. (Hold your horses; I will get to that in a sec.)? So you can really imagine my frustration when I get to work....come back after working 9-2 hours and turn on my player to discover....you guessed it. Player remembers the track but not the spot. So repeat the process above OR....
2)? Well as we all know, the main reason I was told that other players such as an Ipod and many other brands would not meet my need was because what I needed was a bookmarking feature. So let's run thru this scenario. Now in the morning I get in my car and find that the track has reset. I have "hot keyed" my short cut button for bookmark feature so that in a short click I can now reach my books that I have saved. I can now choose:? last listened to ) music? 2) chapter in book 3) lecture. This is great
!!! So let's start with the 45 minute chapter in a book. I restart in the chapter I was in (approximately 20 minutes into the chapter) and begin driving. Now in the middle of rush hour traffic 5-0 minutes from work I reach the end of the chapter and BOOM. Track dies and I am enjoying the sweet sound of silence. I can now just enjoy the relaxing silence until I get to work, or I can pick up my player and go back through my "now playing" tab to find the playlist, then locate the next track. This works GREAT!?
After explaining what happens above you can imagine that my original intention of listening to a lecture in the morning, and then relaxing by listening to a book in the evening has completely gone out the window. I now listen to my audio book only, and spend a great deal of time fast forwarding to find my last spot. Some of you might say "What's the big deal?"? Well, first I asked creative about the bookmarking feature, and I promise you that if you call a rep they will not tell you about it working this way even under considerable questioning, and secondly I think if I pay the amount of money I have for this product a software update should be available.
I'm wondering how many people have this problem, and if there are any fixes (including third party).
Thanks for reading this exceptionally long post,
    ?Michael

  • A question about Lyrics of Audiobook

The Lyrics of a MP3 song works fine.
But the Lyrics of audiobook has never worked well since I got my Nano3 8G.
In the iTunes, I right-click on a *.m4b file (It is a audiobook format file),
Then click GetInfo-->Lyrics, fill some words, press OK to save it.
But when I play it, using the same method like for MP3, the Lyrics words cannt be displayed.
Anybody is encountered by this issue?
Or, Nano does not support the Lyrics for Audiobook? Only support Lyrics for MP3?
    Thanks.

  • Question about audiobook syncing

I downloaded an audiobook on my iPhone and thought it would sync with my ipad but can't find it anywhere! If I go on my ipad and try to download it again it says I've already purchased it!

Audiobooks are currently a one-time only download from the store, they won't appear in the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app on your iPad nor will they automatically download on other devices. You will need to copy it from your phone to your computer's iTunes via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases (it should copy over to the Books part of your computer's iTunes) and you can then sync it to your iPad
