Audiobooks remembering position?

I'm considering replacing my aging Palm III and my old
click-wheel iPod withe an iPad. (The Palm desktop is
no longer supported, but still works - so far.)
The one gripe I have about the iPod is that it usually
"forgets" where I was when I last stopped listening to
an audiobook. (Discussions confirm that this is a known
bug and will not be fixed.) I have to keep a post-it with
the iPod and write down where I stopped.
Does anyone know if iPod for iPad has this problem?

The iPad has no problems with playing audiobooks or remembering last position. Hurrah!!

  • Audiobook playback does not remember position

I like to get audiobooks from the library and rip them to my ipod. I am very good about setting the "compilation", "remember position", and "skip when shuffling" flags to yes. I have never had a problem with my ipod. Now, on my iphone, it forgets where I was sometime after midnight, or the next day. During the same day, it remembers fine for example I like to listen while commuting. It remembers where I left off from the morning commute, but the next day, in the morning, I have to fast forward to the spot I left it at the day before. Please help.

I get CD books from the library. There are usually 10-15 in a typical unabridged novel. I put the CD in with the parameter to show CD only. I select ALL tracks, join them, and then import. After all CDs are on board, I have to edit the info for all of them, and this is where I set the remember position flag. I then have a Smart Playlist that looks for this title only, and for those tracks that have a playcount of zero. It works very nicely on my IPod. I can't figure why it loses position. This morning it was right where I left off.

  • Audiobooks don't remember position on my iPhone

It's nice that Apple has a box for "Remember Last Position" for tracks. Why anyone would want that for a three-minute song, I dunno. And why that option DOESN'T work for hours-long audiobook files is all the more frustrating.
For my iPod Classic, an audiobook's position is remembered properly. But my iPhone used to do this properly and now doesn't, ever since the upgrade to 3.0.
I'm getting fed up with this completely nonsensical glitch. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I got the same problem weeks ago, but solved lately. But this method cannot apply to a single audiobook file (the selection box just dim), only work with group selection, here's how.
Select the audiobook files with shift or command, choose "Get info". Now go to the "Options" and select "Media kind" to Audiobook and "Remember position" to Yes. It should working now.
This function purpose to be automatic in iphone.... anyway this's how computer works.

  • Transfer settings "do not shuffle" and "remember position"

All my audiobooks are marked with the 'do not shuffle' setting in iTunes. How do I get this to transfer to my nano (which thinks they are music) so I can play just music with 'shuffle all songs'?
I haven't tested this yet, but the "remember position" setting in iTunes does work on the nano, doesn't it?

I think it should just transfer and work. But if not, you can create a Smart Play list where the rule is anything that isn't an audiobook. Then on your Nano just play and shuffle that playlist which will be all your music and not your audiobooks.

  • Multi File AudioBook Remember chapter

Hey ok so I've got iTunes 11.4 on my mac. I have a couple of audiobooks a friend gave me in mp3 format. One file for each chapter. Ive gone through set them to be an audiobook and to remember position. However the remember position only seems to work on the individual files and not the whole audio book. Which means I have to remember which chapter I was up to when I go to continue. Is there a way to enable iTunes to remember what position of what chapter (file) the book was up to? Thanks for the help

Listening to audiobook then chapter changed to next
one but it resets my 30gb 5G Ipod. Did the 5R's, no
help. I noticed that the files that don't work are
MPEG-1, Layer 3, but the files that work are MPEG-2,
Layer 3. Could that be it? If so how do I convert?
If I hilite the bad file I don't have the convert to
    AAC option available.
    ELP!
I have had a previous issue with this problem but recently I tried to play an audio book file but it caused the Ipod to reset but instead of resetting to the main menu it just keeps resetting over and over and no matter if I plug it in to a power supply or a computer it keeps doing the same thing. Has anyone else had this problem and if so has anyone found a fix because I sure as heck don't want to return it.
    Thanks

  • On my ipod touch my songs start in random places and jump to different places as it plays, the remember position is not ticked can anyone please help?

On my ipod touch my songs start in random places and jump to different places as it plays, the remember position is not ticked can anyone please help?

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

  • Since upgrading to IOS 6.0 then 6.0.1 audiobooks don't remember position

Since I upgraded to IOS 6.0 (and recently 6.0.1) on my iPhone 4s my audiobooks no longer remember their position properly.
If I pause the book and use some other apps the position is remembered, but if I leave the book paused long enough and use enough other apps the posiiton in my audio book is lost. It forgets the track and the position in the track. Most of my books are in MP3 format ripped from books on CD, I haven't tested any of my Audible books yet.
This is VERY annoying. Plus with the difficulty of navigiating those books that are just a few multi-hour files to a percise spot it becomes a huge pain in the butt. The worst case is I have say a 10 hour file and get it to within 15 minutes with the slider control and can't get any closer with percision so have to hit the Advance 15 sec button around 60 times. Grrrr. (P.S. I do know how to use my vetical finger position to control the slider sensitivity but for huge book files it still doesn't let me get to an exact spot).
Please can someone help? Or Apple can you fix it.
I've tried rebooting and re-downloading several different books.

what exactly is going on with the keyboard.
you can try doing a reset, hold down the home/power button until you see the apple logo and then relesae, then wait for the phone to boot back up.

  • Audiobook playback position

I recently purchased a couple of audiobooks from itunes. I noticed that the iphone does not remember the position when you stopped listening if you play any audio file after you stopped listening. If i pause and quit go through my day and then listen again later it will remember its position. But if I open another audiobook, song, etc the music app will forget where it left off in the audiobook and start from the beginning every single time. This is very annoying and seems like something obvious so I dont think apple would overlook it. Can anyone replicate this problem?

It comes and goes.  The last audiobook I listened to (finished just today) it had no problem.  When it quits working it seems to be soon after an update, I've never figured out what makes it start working again.

  • Mini Player Not Remembering Position

I like to keep the iTunes mini-player in the lower right-hand corner of my screen, and until today it would always remember that position when I clicked the zoom button. Now, every time I click the zoom to go to the mini-player, it centers it on the screen. I have not done anything to update my system since yesterday. All the latest updates and fixes are applied. Any ideas?

Moved it to a new location a couple times and that fixed it.

  • External Discs; Wndows not Remembering Positions/Size...

    Hi all,
OK, this is driving me nuts: for some reason, my Mac won't remember the position/size of a window after I close one and open the app back up again, nor will things like external discs, ipods, etc. show up on my desktop when they are connected (ipods show up for an instant, then disappear.) It worked fine for a while then, one day, both things just gave up the ghost--any ideas what might be causing this?
Note: Yes, I have Prefs in Finder set to display extrenal drives, ipods, etc.

As far as I can tell this problem was never fixed and it goes back years:

  • Blue Dot, and stop remembering position?

    I have 2 questions-
1st, does anyone know why there is a blue dot next to some of my iPhone's videos/movies?
2nd, some people are having issues with not remembering playhead position, but I'd like to know, is there any way to turn OFF remembering playhead position? I'd like my video/ movies to play from the beginning, no matter where I left off last time I played them.
    Thanks in advance.

To make a particular video forget playback position, right click or control click on the video and choose get info.
Click on the options tab, and there is a check box to remember playback position. Uncheck and click ok.
To make a selection of songs forget playback position, click on the top video and hold down the shift key and click on the las video. This will highlight everything in-between.
Now you can right click or control click on the selection and choose get info.
A different window will come up, but there is a drop down at the bottom for remembering playback position.

  • Audiobook playback position sync to iPhone

I've been listening to audiobooks via my iPhone, and I just purchased a little nano to use while exercising. I synced my iPhone to iTunes to get the latest playback position for my audiobook, then synced my new nano to iTunes and added the audiobook, which started playing at the proper position. Nice.
I finished my exercise, synced my nano, and iTunes now has the updated position (I played the book in iTunes to be sure). Then I synced my iPhone to get the latest position on that unit, and it didn't work. It was still way back where it was. Not nice.
How do I get the iPhone to pick up the new playback position of my audiobook?
    Mac OS 10.7.2
    iTunes 10.5.1
    iPhone 4, iOS 5.0.1

So I was having the hardest time getting my audible books onto my iPhone and iPad with iTunes 11 and iOS 7.  I dragged them into a play list and synced them, but when I looked on the iPhone they did not import.
So what I did to get it to work was to chose the book (Highlight) I wanted to import, then get the information (command + I), then choose Options tab, then change the Media Kind from Audiobook to Music.
Then sync again and it will import to the device.

  • How To Get Spry Slide Function To Remember Position?

    Hello,
I'm building a site with a horizontal bar that has dynamically loaded thumbnails of images, and the user can click on the left arrow or right arrow to "slide" the images left and right (a bit like the most recent Netflix interface, if you've seen that). In an effort to do it quick 'n' easy, I employed the Spry Effects (SpryEffects.js)--specifically, the slide function ( MM_effectSlide(), or Spry.Effect.DoSlide() ).
I would like the user to click on the right arrow and see the next, say, 10 images, and then the next 10 and so on. To achieve this, I created a long DIV inside another "masking" DIV and told Spry to slide the inside DIV. This all works well.
However, I'm having trouble getting the Spry to start from the CURRENT position and slide to a new position. If I leave the "from" option as null, it still starts from a position other than the current position.
Does anyone have any tips/pointers/suggestions? I'd rather not recreate the entire Javascript functionality, but rather hack the existing Spry functions.
    Thanks in advance!
    JP

It sounds to me as though you're using the wrong Spry feature. To do what you want, you need Spry Sliding Panels.
Unfortunately, Spry Sliding Panels are not incorporated into Dreamweaver, you need to code everything yourself. The documentation is here:
http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/samples/slidingpanels/SlidingPanelsSample.html. You'll also need to download the Spry framework from Adobe Labs to get the relevant external JavaScript files.

  • Get iTunes to remember position in Playlist

Hi, does anyone know how to get iTunes to remember where it was in a Playlist when you shut down your computer so that it starts up at the same place again instead of at the top of the Playlist? It seems capable of remembering which Playlist you were using and also how the Playlist was sorted, so why can't it remember where it was playing?
    This is really annoying...
*Apple guys/galls* - if you read this and the above is not possible then please add this feature to the Preferences in your next iTunes update - I'm sure you will please a lot of folks if you do.

I don't think you can do this in iTunes.
You can feedback your suggestion to Apple using this form:

  • Finder not remembering position within folder

I have my Finder set up to automatically open the Applications folder in Icon view. If I scroll down to the Utilities folder (or anywhere else) open it and then click back, I'm back at the top of Applications folder. It's a small, but frustrating problem. I thought 10.5.1 would fix it, but it didn't.

This, and the inability to remember your preferred type of view for each folder (without manually setting it on a folder by folder basis), are apparently designed in behaviors.
Apple's Finder UI team have officially "jumped the shark".
    Sigh....
