All indications are that the RIM Blackberry 8703e does not support the Bluetooth DUN profile required to enable dial up networking, or what some refer to as 'tethering' by Bluetooth. • Using 6300 as Wireless Modem

Heya guys, I own a Nokia 6300 with a working GPRS contract with TPG.
I want to somehow use my Nokia 6300 as a wireless modem so that my iPod Touch can use its internet so I can surf the web on a larger and better screen. Using bluetooth perhaps?
Is there any way I can do this?
    Regards,
    Josh

You can use the supplied USB cable to use your phone as a modem to connect your desktop or laptop to internet. There is an app for symbian devices called 'joikuspot' through which you can do wireless tethering. I haven't come across an application like, or itself, for non-symbian devices. So if you want wireless tethering better buy any latest symbian smartphone.

  • Wireless modem and multiple monitors

I just bought a mini for my office, which does not support Macs. I was told I could not hook it up to the network, so I did not get the Airport option, though I did get bluetooth for the mouse and keyboard. Now they tell me that, while I can't hook up to the local network, I can connect wirelessly (and only wirelessly) to the university network. Is there a way to do this without having to take the mini in to get an internal wireless modem installed? I don't need the perfect solution because what I am mostly concerned with is being able to email stuff to my Windows PC for printing and backup.
Second, I often use two or more documents at the same time, and my 19" screen is just not enough. I'd like to hook up two 17" screens simultaneously, where each screen shows half of the total desktop and the mouse will move seamless across them. Can this be done with the mini?

Sorry if this upsets you, but you indicate you are at a university? Are you faculty? I have yet to run across a u that totally restricted the use of Macs on their network. In fact that is usually the one place, as a result of academic freedom, that you can have the machine of your choice. This especially true if you are faculty. When I was at Illinois we had one professor with a Mac on the network. In my wife's Economics department at UCF, in a business school, there are two faculty with Macs on the network. While at UF, the IT guys in our department discouraged using a Mac on the network, but it could be done. My point on this is that academic freedom overrides IT guys that have fear of something different. I could understand this if you were in a corporate setting where they heavily restrict what is put on the machines, as the place I am now, but in a university setting, I truly find it hard to believe that they could restrict you like that. If that is truly the case, let me know the university, and I will be sure not to ever apply for a position there since it appears that academic freedom does not exist there.
Btw, I would be curious to find out about other departments on the campus. I am sure there are Macs out there somewhere, there might be a department that is nothing but Macs, unless you are only a business school.

  • Using your Palm as a wireless Modem. :) (Rogers AT&T)

I have read a couple of times that it was possible to use the my treo us a wireless modem for my laptop..
Since Rogers recently started selling the Iphone, their $30 dataplan is now 6 gigs!! (up from the just 200 mb)..
I REALLY REALLY wanted to see if I could do this.. (surf the internet on my laptop wirelessly).
first I purchased a USB Bluetooth adapter. the Dlink DBT-122..
It took me hours to finally find out the secret on how to use the "dial up networking"..
"pairing" the laptop and my treo 680 worked fine.. the rest I had to guess and find on the internet.
1.) The phone number to dial was   *999***1#
2.) the username was :"wapuser1".. (which I took from my palm in the PREFERENCES::NETWORK)
    a password wasnt needed,

  • Wireless modem and Airport Express.. one at a time

Recently my internet provider upgraded my old plug in modem to a newer wireless model. Now it seems that the current setting allow communication with only one or the other at the same time. If I want to be online with the wireless modem and send my iTunes music via Airport Express to my sound system, no dice. I have to either click on the modem up in the Airport choices to be online and listen to iTunes through the computer speakers, or go offline to listen to music through the sound system and Airport Express.
I'm sure I'm just missing something in preferences or settings somewhere.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks, and Happy New Year!

  • How to set up email, add apps, use web through wireless modem?

    Hi,
Have a new 8310. OS is v4.5.0.37 Platform 2.7.0.55I'm in Australia, currently with Telstra but in the process of changing.
I have not purchased a data plan for the phone. I have a wireless modem for my desktop & wondering if I can use this to connect my phone to the web without purchasing data?
Do I need a data plan to send emails? Can I use my existing online email acct(yahoo), or do I need to set up a special one for the phone? If so, please explain where/how? If not, what other info do I need to configure the existing one? It seems I need a PIN as well as e-addy & password(& assuming it's the yahoo password?)
    TIA

Yes. Basically, to do anything other than use the phone, you need a data plan. Period.

    Yes...see the above reading material.

    No...not required.

PIN...hmmm...there are many definitions for that acronym in the BB world. The most usual one is a unique identifier, much like an IP address or phone number, that is assigned at the factory to your BB. It is used to register your BB for various services (yes, via a data plan) so as to identify your BB on the network.
    I hope that helps.

  • Lose wireless connection when not in same room as wireless modem.

When I try to use my z60t laptop in another room in the house I cannot connect to the internet.  The signal strength is either very good or low.  When I am in the office where the wireless modem is located, my signal strength is excellent and there is no problem.  My husband does not have this same problem with his HP laptop.  I also get a good signal with my iphone all over the house.  After calling Verizon it was determined that it is a computer problem.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Lisa

100% certain that I am connecting to my modem. And yes the password is a good one too. As I said, I have no troubles connecting when outside a 5metre or 15feet (for those of us who aren't metric) radius of the modem. When closer then that, the connection will usually drop out.

  • How do I set up a Apple TC with a Verizon FIOS wireless modem model  Actiontec 424wi F series.  Does the wifi in the modem have to be shut off and will it effect the FIOS tv?

How do I set up an Apple TC with a Verizon FIOS wireless modem model MI424wr F.  Does the wifi have to be turned off in the modem and then bridge it to the TC?  Will FIOS tv be effected?

Your first call should be to Verizon support to ask them if you turn off the wireless on the Actiontec router....will it affect any of the features/functions of the FIOS system?
If yes, then it would be best to leave the Actiontec router "as is" and connect the Time Capsule using Ethernet in Bridge Mode as a back up device only (wireless is turned off on the Time Capsule).
If you want to use the dual band (and likely much faster) wireless capability of the Time Capsule, then you should turn off the wireless on the Actiontec device to help prevent wireless interference effects that will likely occur when two wireless routers are in close proximity to each other.
Again, the Time Capsule would be connected to the Actiontec router using an Ethernet connection from one of the LAN <-> ports on the Actiontec router to the WAN port (circle icon) on the Time Capsule. Configure the Time Capsule in Bridge Mode as well in this type of configuration.
Bottom line....what Verizon says will pretty much dictate how you can set up the TIme Capsule.

  • Can I use an airport extreme to extend the range of my wireless modem

Can I use an Airport Extreme to extend the range of my wireless modem?
At one end of my house I have a dual band wireless ADSL modem which provides my internet connection and I want to extend (improve) the wireless coverage to the other of the hosue where my Apple TV (2nd gen) is located. I have being trying to extend my wireless network with an Airport Extreme but so far without success. I can get the Airport to join the wireless network, but I suspect that it is only acting as another client and not actually extending the wireless range. There is a setting in the Airport configuration to "extend and existing network", however when I choose this option the Airport no longer connects to my existing wireless network and I am beginning to suspect that this fuction only works with another Apple device (Airport Extreme or Express).
Has anyone been able to extend the range of a third party wireless router / modem with an AirPort Extreme? If so, any advice that you can offer wold be appreciated.
    Regards
    Michael

    Thanks Tesserax,
Your answer has confirmed my suspicions.
Option 1 from your suggested solutions is not a goer because the modem and Airport Extreme are in different parts of the house making it impractical to run a cable between the two devices.
I did try option 2 and bought a Netgear range extender, which according to Netgear it would work with my D-Link modem - not.
However I have managed to work around the problem (sort of) by using the Airport Extreme to create a wireless network between my iMac 27 and my Apple TV. The idea is that the iMac will act as a router between ethernet connected ADSL modem and the wirelessly connected Apple TV.
The good news is that I am now able to play the content from my iTunes library on my Apple TV without interruptions due to a poor wireless connection . Although the connection from the Apple TV to the internet is not working I think this is most likely just a configuration issue and for me it is not really a show stopper.

    Hi,
You may not have a wireless network adapter.
If it is not in Network Adapters and you have no Device Manager errors or disabled devices under Network Adapters then that would be the case.

  • Wireless Modem and Airport Express USB Printer

I am already connected to the internet via a wireless modem provided by my ISP. The connection uses Airport. I just purchased an Airport Express to connect my computer to a printer through the USB port. However, I can't get the airport utility to connect to the Airport Express solely for the purpose of connecting to the printer. I have tried to make the new aiport express both a new network and part of an existing wireless network with no sucess. I sitll have a flashing yellow light on my Airport Express. I have not connected the wireless modem to the Airport Express. Do I have to connect the airport express to the modem? Help!

    Hi Andrew Otis:
    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
You'll need to configure your AE via the Airport Admin Utility to Join an Existing Wireless Network, then select the name of your network in the drop down box or enter it EXACTLY as the SSID is broadcasting your network Name. You may also have to configure wireless security if you wireless modem has that enabled.
    I hope this helps!

I am familiar with how to add hardware and point to a .msi file under XP, but less so on Windows 7.  I ran the add hardware tool, but it finds no new hardware to add.  There is no point installing a driver when the hardware can't be found.  Besides, I didn't do anything that would have changed or removed the old driver.  My WiFi was working perfectly until Sunday.
I also tried rolling back windows to an earlier restore point.  Unfortunately, it reports that it is unable to apply any of the prior restore points (even after I temporarily disabled Norton AntiVirus).
How to I initiate getting a replacement WiFi card under warranty?
