Thanks, Tammy

Hi Tammy,
Thanks for the anouncement of 10.2.3.2.
We are currently using AV with EBS 11i and wanted to know if the new version has any new features through which we can audit EBS database . I know that AV can audit any database and EBS database falls under that category.
for example, we would like to know the application user who modified a system profle in EBS .
I was reading Steven Chan's blog (http://blogs.oracle.com/stevenChan/2009/11/data_protection_security_ebs_openworld.html) and this mentions about setting client identifer for EBS , but that is planned.
do you know when that would be available .
Also are there any specific patches planned for integrating AV with EBS.
Thanks So much in advance

  • Error while trying to start Audit Collector on the Audit Vault Server 10g

    Hi,
We are trying to build a demo environment for testing Oracle Audit Vault 10g but we are having some trouble.
Our environment is like this: Oracle Audit Vault Server is installed on Windows Server 2003 SP2, while the Audit Vault Agent is installed on an Oracle 10g Release 2 database which resided on Windows server 2003 SP1. This two Windows Server machines are both installed as virtual machines.
We have successfully created the Agent and the Collector on Audit Vault Server and the Agent starts successfully while when we try to start the collector we get an error which says " Http Communication error: Http Communication error: 500" and the collector does not start.
We are new to the Audit Vault Software so we would really appreciate some help on how to resolve this issue because we have got stuck here and can not go on with our work.
Thanks in advance for your time
    Best regards
    Engrid

    Hi,
Thanks again for all of your replies but now we are getting another error with the OSAUD collector. We are able to add the collector successfully by using the avorcldb all_collector command.
Source database is 10g R2 (10.2.1) and we configured it for collecting the audit records in the OS audit trail by using the following statement: ALTER SYSTEM SET AUDIT_TRAIL=OS SCOPE=SPFILE;, and the SHOW PARAMETER AUDIT command returns the following values :
    NAME TYPE VALUE
    audit_file_dest string C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.2.0\ADMIN
    \<db_name>\ADUMP
    audit_sys_operations boolean TRUE
    audit_trail string OS
We don't know if the values set for the audit_file_dest is correct but after we start working on the database and execute some statements Oracle is not creating any files on this destinations while for the same statements when the Audit_trail=DB, EXTENDED the audit values for these statements are written in the appropriate table.
So we do not know if this is the cause but when we try to start the OSAUD collector defined on the Audit Vault Server it can not start and gives us the follwing error: "could not start collector OSAUD_Collector for source <source name>, directory access error for C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.2.0\ADMIN\<db_name>\ADUMP".
Sorry for the message being so long but we really need some help with this issue.
    thanks in advance.

No they cannot send you a document that is available only to those with access to MOS.
That would violate the conditions of having such service contract credentials.
Asking someone to violate such privileges is a serious offense and could get that other person's organization banned from all support and all their support contracts cancelled.

  • Oracle Audit Vault installation fails on DVCA assistant + libpthread.so.0

Hello experts, I did this post at general forums but nobody noticed anything, I need your help
I am able to install the Oracle Audit Vault Server on the following features:
OS: Suse Linux 10 SP 2
    Clusterware version: 11.1.0 6
The Oracle Audit Vault server installation procces creates the database an starts the instances on each node and notice me the url for the Enterprise Manager but after that it fails at DVCA assistante because is not able to load the shared library libpthread.so.0.
I found in internet that some time there are files like srvctl, vipca, etc tha export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL ant we have to comment that line, but I do not found the line in those files. I just found in the crsctl file this line like
    LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=
    export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL
PD: The libpthread.so.0 library already exist
Should I comment this line at crsctl file?

  • Oracle Audit Vault and Database Firewall implementaion

    Dear All,
we are planning to implement Oracle Audit Vault and Database Firewall on 2 node 11g RAC/solaris10, please advise me to ahead in details
    Thanks

Recently purchased Audit Vault and Database Firewall
My question is with Audit Vault.
All of the documentation says that i need Oracle Linux 5.8 as part of the installation. We do not have any servers now that support 5.8 currently. When I check the HCL for Oracle Linux 5.8 i see only 4 Oracle servers that support this version
    Sun Server X2-4
    Sun Server X2-8
    Sunfire X2270 M2
    Sunfire X4470
The only two servers that are currently offer for purchase by Oracle are the X2-4 and X2-8 which are way overkill both in power and price for this application.
The X2270 M2 would fit nicely, but is no longer offered for sale. In it place is the X3-2 which would fit nicely, but it listed as supporting Oracle Linux 5.8. Oracle Linux 5.9 is supported on the X3-2.
My question is will Oracle Linux 5.9 or newer install to support Audit Vault? The documentation specifies Linux 5.8. Is this flexible or not?
    Thanks,

  • REG:Oracle Audit Vault Agent Installation fails at the last step .

    Hi ,
I am installing Audit vault agent 10.3 and it is failing at the last on solarisis 10 sparc 64 bit .
    The error is
OUI-25031:Some of the configuration assistants failed/cancelled. It is strongly recommended that you retry the configuration assistants at this time. Not successfully running any "Recommended" assistants means your system will not be correctly configured.
I have tried the Doc ID 1058184.1 but it fails at the end saying cannot update av.properties , If we create the the directories manually and create the av.properties file then the agent will start but it is not stopping until you kill the agent .
Moreover if i am continuing with this agent after registering the collectors i am not able to start them as i am facing the http 404 error .
So i think i need to install the audit agent successfully first .
can anybody help me please as we are on client side and it is critical deliverable .

In case you're still dealing with this issue:
I hit this problem when the OS user I was installing with was not in the proper OS group. I don't have the documentation in front of me right now, but make sure your user is in the DBA and/or OINSTALL group.

  • Audit Vault 10.3 Console - Internal Error on Pages/Tabs Accessing Port 1158

    Hello Audit Vaulters!
I wonder if any one has encountered this problem we are having right now.
We are using the default port 1158 for the AV console. It looks like it has stopped working properly. This port is accessed by the "Audit Policy" tab when you log in as auditor and also by all the tabs when you log in as administrator in the console. When you go to these tabs the first time, you will get "internal error" but when you "refresh" the page by entering the URL (https://<hostname>:1158/av) again on the same page, it works - the page is displayed.
There were no changes applied to the AV server or even to the collection agent. The only update done was patch 1 for AV 10.3.
I changed the port from the default 1158 to something else to make sure it's not a port issue. It did not work either.
    Any ideas are welcome.
    Thank you.

For those who encounter this error in the future, please refer to the update below. I have fixed this problem.
The issue was that the "administrator" and "auditor" passwords will expire soon . It looks like the the console checks the expiry date of these accounts prior to loading the page. After resetting the passwords for these AV user accounts, we no longer get the "internal error" during the initial load of the page.
I have asked Oracle to update their documents on AV user account management and how it affects the AV components such as the console. I also asked them if they can improve the console. When the admin and auditor accounts are expiring, the console should just load the page without throwing the "internal error"? Or maybe display a page, warning that the account is expiring so the customers have a clue on what the problem is. Even the log files did not leave any informational messages regarding the expiring accounts so I guess logging the error will be helpful to the users of Audit Vault.

  • Audit Vault  adding  RAC database for OSAUD collector.

    Hello,
I am configuring Audit Vault 10.2.3 for some AIX databases.
Can anyone tell me what exactly is the method for adding OSAUD collector on both nodes of a RAC database.
    I have below configuration.
    Database Name TEST
instance name on node 1 TEST1
instance name on node 2 TEST2
    cluster name clusterbloc
agent name on node 1 agenttest1
agent name on node 2 agenttest2
I have run the below commands.
    For first node,
avorcldb add_source  -src clusterbloc:1521:TEST   -desc 'Test Database'  -agentname agenttest1
    Enter Source user name: srcuser1
    Enter Source password:
    Adding source...
    Source added successfully.
source successfully added to Audit Vault
While trying to run for second node, below output was received.
avorcldb add_source  -src clusterbloc:1521:TEST   -desc 'Test Database'  -agentname agenttest2
    Enter Source user name: srcuser1
    Enter Source password:
    source TEST already exists
    Storing user credentials in wallet...
    Create credential Modify credential
    Modify 3
    done.
    Mapping Source to Agent...
avorcldb add_collector -srcname TEST    -agentname agenttest2   -colltype OSAUD  -instname  TEST2   -orclhome
    */u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0.2/dbhome_1*
source TEST  verified for OS File Audit Collector collector
    Adding collector...
    Collector added successfully.
collector successfully added to Audit Vault
remember the following information for use in avctl
    Collector name (collname): OSAUD_Collector_TEST2
avorcldb add_collector -srcname TEST   -agentname agenttest1   -colltype OSAUD  -instname   TEST1   -orclhome /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0.2/dbhome_1
source TEST verified for OS File Audit Collector collector
    Adding collector...
    Collector added successfully.
collector successfully added to Audit Vault
remember the following information for use in avctl
    Collector name (collname): OSAUD_Collector_TEST1
Now which command should be run for setup ? Or any changes need to be made on earlier commands, especially on add_source ?
    avorcldb setup -srcname TEST
    Or
    these two ?
    avorcldb setup -srcname TEST1
    avorcldb setup -srcname TEST2

OS collector should be configure for both node in RAC.
and avorcldb setup -srcname command is run on the Audit Vault Collection Agent with source database name.
so please run avorcldb setup -srcname TEST from both agent host.

  • Audit Vault  Agent sizing (harware requirements)

Hi, I need to provide my customer an estimation of the disk space needed for the Audit Vault Agent, size of archivelog files of the source database so that REDO collector could work without problems, and other demands of source side (audit vault agent) versus audit vault server?
Is there any document like "audit vault configuration best practice" related with hardware requirements (size of disk space, size of archivelog files, aud records...)???
    Thank you all in advance..

    Hi Elmin,
I was doing implementation on Audit Vault with around twenty source databases. These were hardware requirements:
    Server:
    HP-UX 11.31, 2 CPUs, 16 GB RAM, 1TB of storage for database
Agent (these are from the installation guide):
    - At least 512 MB of available physical memory (RAM)
    - Swap space of 1024 MB or twice the size of RAM
    - 400 MB of disk space in the /tmp directory
    - 1.6 GB of disk space for the Oracle Audit Vault collection agent software (but if you apply patches you need actually more than this).

  • Installation audit vault agent with RAC configuration

    Hi at all,
I have a question about the installation of the agent on the RAC configuration. Where must I install the Audit vault agent, on all RAC nodes or is there a properly configuration?
    Thanks
    Vincenzo

By default when you install the agent on any single node the installation recognizes that it is a cluster and presents you with a list of available nodes from which to select.
With a RAC cluster you have one database and multiple instances. All instances will write to one, and only one AUD$ and FGA_LOG$ table so if you are using database auditing one node will suffice. Which node that is though depends on knowing which node is up at any one time so you could potentially choose a node that is dropped from the cluster or is down for patching and maintenance while the cluster is still running. With respect to REDO collection each node has its own redo thread so you definitely need to be collecting from every node.
Audit Vault has not been out long enough that I can tell you from experience what might be defined as "best practice" and often what we really need to study is "worst practice" to know what not to do. But in the case of RAC my instinct would be to first determine the collection type(s) and then decide. Erring on the side of collecting from all nodes makes a lot of sense.

  • In house Management Plugin for Audit Vault Collector Status

I've developed a plug in to collect the status of the many Audit Vault Collectors we have.
For the moment I just want the collector as a new target with just a response/status metric.
I have created a ttd and dc xml file together with a .ksh script.
I tested the XML using ilint and created a jar file using emctl. I successfully imported and deployed the plug in to the necessary agent and then created one of the new targets.
The status appeared as up in the console but I then shutdown the collector but the status remains as up.
I have tested the .ksh script from the command line and it correctly outputs em_status=Up or Down as required but the Down status is not getting to the console.
I have the collection as 5 minutes.
Does anyone have any pointers as to what I need to look at please?
    Thanks,
    Mike

You can enable the Agent metric browser as described in section 2.2.1.2 of the EM Extensibility Guide (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B16240_01/doc/em.102/b40007.pdf) and see what the gets back for each of your metrics.
    Also, from the Extensibility Guide:
"For target availability to show up correctly on the default target home page, Oracle requires the target metadata file to define a metric with NAME="Response" that contains a column with NAME="Status" and the default collection file must define a critical condition on the "Status" column that represents the target being up or down."
Presumably, since your target shows as up initially, you have already defined a critical condition on the "Status" column of your "Response" metric. You may want to follow up with the EM extensibility product manager [email protected] to get some help from the Agent team on this issue.
