Audition 3.0.1 Random Gaps of Silence

Hello, I am having a major problem with Adobe Audition 3.0.1.
When recording between 9 and 14 tracks at a time a few of the tracks, not all, will randomly have gaps of silence.
Some of the gaps are of different lengths. I have attached a screenshot of this. It only does this every once in a while, but of course ruins what I'm recording.
In this test example I was recording 14 audio tracks at once and my CPU usage never got over 46% and my RAM usage never got above 2.10 GB (out of 8GB).
System specs:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
AMD Phenom 9500 Quad Core CPU (2.2GHz x 4)
8 GB RAM
Tascam US-1641 USB Interface
Current Driver: 2.01
Current Firmware: 1.02
Sample Rate: 44.1
"Normal Latency" (Medium Setting)
Please let me know if you need to know any other specs and if you have any ideas on how to fix this. Thank you!

I have tried this in multiple situations recording to both internal SATA hard drives as well as USB external drives.
This particular test was to my main internal drive that is 7200 RPM. It has been defragged not long ago (a few weeks or so).

  • Gaps of silence in podcasts-HELP

All downloaded podcasts play fine in itunes but while listening on ipod, the podcast stops briefly and then resumes. The farther into the podcast, the longer the gap of silence - some up to 10 sec. in length. This is very annoying. Can anyone help?

Potentially this is a problem with iPod refilling buffer properly. As file plays the iPod might not be refilling buffer used to prevent skipping. In this case the sound would stop while buffer is filled again.
Just a guess but this would be more noticable on bigger files.

  • Ipod Classic, random gaps, 15-20 seconds, computer wont recognize??

It says, "An Ipod has been connected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect then reconnect the ipod, then try again".
Okay, i have done this several times, manually reset using the menu and center button. It has random gaps. It seems like everyone is having this problem, can an yone give me some info or answer this for me?

Hearing clicking noise in the iPod is bad, a sign that the Hardisk cant read the boot sector.
When iPod reach the Apple Logo, put it into Disk Diagnostic, read this excellent post by tt2.
it wont fix your problem, but help in troubleshooting, and save you a lot of time going on a wild goose chase.

  • How do I fill a gap with silence, at the beginning of a track, in multi-track mode?

    Hey everybody!
I have 2 tracks in multi-track mode ... one is Music and the other is Vocals. The music starts at the beginning and lasts 3 minutes. The vocals don't begin until 10 seconds into the music. I need to insert silence in the beginning of the Vocals, because I will be sending both tracks to a producer and I want the tracks to line up from the beginning. Otherwise, they will have to line up my vocals.
    Thanks for any help. :-)
    Joe

I would just line the vocal track up by sliding the appropriate amount and then right mouse click and bounce that track down to another track and send that one as it will have that 'silence' embedded into the start.

  • Video Stutters, Freezes, Gaps, and Silence (QT conversions)

I've been having trouble with some videos on my iPod and my computer. On certain files, so far on those more TV show length or more, about every 30 secs the video freezes for a bit, then continues but without audio. This has happened only on the iPod, in iTunes they might barely freeze but audio continues with video normally and mostly with non-iTunes videos, mostly encoded in QT. Another problem I've been having is that MPEGs and AVIs downloaded on computer have no audio track according to QT but when played the audio workes fine. Obviously the converted video doesn't have the audio either. Both these issues have a been a major concern and annoyance, though I'm not sure how much is the iPods fault or QT's. I'm thinking the stutter is due to coflicting format, maybe corruption, or inferior tech on the iPod. Thanks.

  • How to add or remove silence at the beging and at end of each audio file using batch process

    Hi all,
I am new to this forum. I have been using Audition 3 for the last couple of years and these days I have to coop with an extra difficult situation, which is; I have more than 2000 files that start and finish with a random length of silence, it varies 0 to 7 sec. My question is, how can I set the silent duration at the beginning and end of each file to a constant amount of 2 sec by using batch process?
    Kind regards,
    Pavlos

    >it's relatively easy to select an absolute time at the beginning of a file (we discovered how to do this a while back), the same technique simply doesn't work at all at the end of it
Indeed! I had a few trials last couple of days and noticed it.
Definitely we need help on Audition's scripting language from the people in Adobe. Why don't they produce a scripting language documentation?!

  • Kerberos audit failures, ~38-42 events PER MINUTE

We have a server running "Windows Server Standard FE" 64bit SP2 (I know, embarrassing). The issue is that our Security log is getting FLOODED with audit failures from Kerberos Service Ticket Operations. We will see 38 all with the EXACT same time-stamp,
then sometimes the next minute will have another 40, sometimes it's a 5 minute gap, sometimes it's a more random gap but regardless it never waits too long before another huge burst of failures. We actually have the issues on other machines running newer system
(2k3, 2k8) but this one is hands down the most troublesome.
Honestly I might be out of my depth here as I'm really not too keen on Kerberos ticket requests, but any information around this would be greatly appreciated to help me investigate the issue further. These errors haven't actually led to any problems or other
errors, just bug the heck out of me when checking audits.

  • Patches of silence in tracks

For some reason there are random seconds of silence in the music playback on my iTouch. The music plays fine on iTunes but when syncd with the iTouch these periods of silence appear. I know there are gaps between the music tracks but this is random silence during the track. I've tried replacing the sync cable and using other headphones, but without any improvement.
Has anyone else experienced this and found a solution?

+So you know as much about this problem as I do..?+
Yep, personally that's the case, however, the benefit of these forums is to access the whole communities knowledge of problems and fixes and the idea is to hopefully reach that one person who can help your problem. That doesn't seem to be the case here, though since people don't seem to know a solution for you.
+I've already tried all the usual dummie tests, like restoring, restarting etc.. It is a problem with the iOS4, its not that I'm thick and I'm imagining a problem that doesnt exist.+
I totally believe you are having these problems .. but it seems you have done the things I might have suggested to try and help.
+If you have a 3rd gen iPod Touch, running the iOS4 and are not experiencing any of these problems then I will be very surprised, because my laptop is brand new, with windows 7 and so is the iPod Touch, bought within the last 3 months...+
I cannot see the problem being widespread due to the few responses to this thread .. were it something happening to most people there would be a lot more posts I'd imagine. Therefore I would say that whatever the bug is, it is something more specific to your ipod or itunes set up (I have seen people complaining about the compatibility of win 7 with itunes .. could be it, might not be it).
Is it possible to try sync-ing from another PC/Mac (ie one with another OS), and then at least you could work out if your ipod is damaged? (and try another cable in case it is that that's the problem? .. I notice the OP tried that, but it's something to try for the second poster if he hasn't already)
Otherwise I would say your best bet is to contact apple itself (via the forums contact info, or a genius in a store) and see if they can find out what might be the prob

    Thanks for the response.
I have checked though the Word documents that were used in the most recent merge. They don't have any spaces at these areas or strange formatting. I turned on the Show/Hide option to confirm if there was anything odd but I could not see anything. The formatting (Ctrl+D) shows the default font Arial, Regular, font 12.
The interesting thing is that if it occurs and attempt another file merge the gaps are no longer there. Which makes me think this is unlikely to be the documents and formatting being used and more likely to be a bug in Adobe Acrobat.
Is there anything else that might be of use to know?

  • Gaps inbetween letters of full words when Merging files to single PDF (Adobe Acrobat 9.0 Standard)

I've raised a Bug Report although it says that I may not be contacted so thought someone else might have encountered this issue and hopefully knows what causes it and how to fix. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Heres a copy of the Bug Report details...
    ******BUG******
    Concise problem statement:
An intermitent issue is occuring when merging multiple files into a single PDF in Adobe Acrobat 9.0 Standard, the resulting PDF file has gaps inbetween the letters of actual words. For example the word "document" may appear in part of the PDF as "doc ument". This seems to affect various parts of the final PDF file.
Setup: Windows XP SP2, Adobe Acrobat 9.0, Microsoft Office Standard Edition 2003
    Steps to reproduce bug:
I am currently unable to replicate the issue on demand but this has happened three times since installing Adobe Acrobat 9.0 a month ago. The most recent occurance happened when merging 6 Microsoft Word Documents. It is a real problem due to the fact that every PDF created needs to be carefully checked and in some cases these PDFs have hundreds of pages.
    The steps used are:
    1) Open Adobe Acrobat 9.0
    2) Click File
    3) Combine
    4) Merge Files into a single PDF
    5) Add Files (select the required files)

  • Design of gap-free invoice number or check number

Hi, i have this "old question" that i can't seems to find the answer that satisfy the following requirment
    - An audit requirement to have a gap free in the invoice number/check number
    - this is a high concurrent oltp in generating invoices/checks
    - the design should be able to scale well without serialization issue
    - the design should be working well in RAC environment.
Since sequence will not guarantee gap-free, or nocache suffer will have issue in RAC, thus i wondering what design approach i should use.
A note i saw was saying using a seq for the primary key and subsequent using a batch process to generate a gap-free number.

If you absolutely have to have something like, then it's going to have a serialising effect - although you can take steps to do damage limitations. I discussed one strategy in Practical Oracle 8i many years ago, which pointed out that basically you have to do your audit by looking at numbers which have been used, but also have a permanent record of numbers that have not been used.
There are several ways to do this, but here's an outline of one:
Populate a table with "the next 1000 available values".
A process that needs an Id updates and commits on the lowest available number.
Once a number has been marked as allocated, the process creates an invoice, which includes a step either to mark the id as used, or to delete it. (I prefer the latter, as this means on commit the value disappears from the source table and reappears as a value in the invoice table).
You end up with three possible states for an id:
    Available
    Allocated but not used
    Used
The audit has to check that the union of all three lists contains no gaps.

  • Recording dropouts, silences and stops

Hi all. I'm really becoming crazy for a problem with my AA3. I would like to use my HP Notebook (Core 2 duo, 2 GB DDR2, Realtek HD Audio, Nvidia 8400M GS, Vista Home Premium 32 bit) for multitrack recording but i can't because the record contains lots of dropouts in the audio, random seconds of silence here and there. Sometimes the record completly stops, timeline goes on, and transport cursor too, but not the wave writing.
I have disabled all the unneccessary things like Aero, desktop composition, net cards (ethernet, wireless, modems) and in fact the DPC Latency Checker show me an acceptable value for a Vista system (always green, min 50 max 300 us, never red spikes). But problems don't stops.
Vista are costantly updated and the hardware too with latest drivers from the HP site. I try to install latest audio drivers from Realtek directly too, but without results.
If i record with another software (like Nero Wave Editor, or Sound Recorder of Windows) i can hear little clicks here and there, but not dropouts and entire seconds of silence like in AA3.. of course i have an issue in the hardware/operating system. But what?
So i'm looking for a hint, or something to investigate, a help of any kind...
    Hi.

Have you tried recording to an external hard drive, usb or firewire? Many laptops seem to have 'issues' with audio and on-board hard drive related firmware.
Also, I would be wary of some of the updated Realtek drivers, as it seems that laptop manufacturers rely on dedicated, tweaked versions. With my Acer machine, the Realtek-sourced drivers didn't integrate with the audio-related displays of things like loudness settings or the function keys. Some later drivers made things worse. A later "earlier version than the latest Realtek" driver from Acer helped.
Here I found that removing the Acer "helper" software made a huge improvement to the audio performance, but I gather from other forums that people with different Acer models actually had to do the opposite and install some Acer-specific software.
Maybe HP is struggling with all this as well and maybe the "Tools" would help?

  • Importing albums with no gaps

A lot of albums these days (particularly dance albums) run as one seamless track - I want to be able to import them as one track, not have gaps between them - How do I do this?

    hi Marcus!
here's the relevant itunes help documentation:
To remove the gap of silence that normally occurs between songs, make sure the songs on the CD are sorted by track number in ascending order (click the top of the first column so that it's blue and you see a triangle that points up), then select two or more adjacent songs and choose Advanced > Join CD Tracks.
iTunes imports any joined songs as one track. To change back to importing the songs separately, select the joined songs and choose Advanced > Unjoin CD Tracks.
and if you run into difficulties, this document might also be helpful:

  • Ever since OS4 on my 3GS, my songs have gaps, or skip to next song Arrrgh

Well, I put OS4 on my 3GS which WAS working fine.
Now 8 out of every 12 songs have random gaps in them for 10sec,
videos sometimes pause for a few seconds... and stuff I sync over
sometimes doesnt show or causes my iPod menus to be blank.
    Arrrgh!
What ***** is that I called into apple, and they are replacing my phone
    due to warranty/hardware.
I grabbed a spare phone we had at work, put my sim card it, synced up 3 cds
of songs off my computer that I know are fine.. and the same crap happens
    on a different phone.
I'm trying to find a rhyme or reason for this, but cant find one.
Whats interesting is that if I wipe all the songs, and put the 3 CDs worth of
songs back on, the breaks will be in differnet songs, in different parts of
    the songs, every time.
And it is permanent in the song until I delete it.
If I resync the ONE song, I have a good chance of getting a good copy on the phone, but I'm not going to sync thousands of songs, and test every single one and resync that one song if it doesnt work.
This is a pile of junk.
Wish I could go back to OS3.
I've factory defaulted my phone twice and started over thinking it would help, but it doesnt.

    it's the os 4.1...

  • Unwanted gaps between tracks on CD

I have cut up a live concert recording into individual WAV files. I assembled them in a single track of a Multitrack session. I overlapped the tracks and allowed auto fading to smooth out the transitions between selections and carefully placed the CD Track Markers where I wanted them near the overlap. It plays perfectly in the timeline. When I insert the tracks into the CD Layout I set all the pause values to zero and burn the disk. When I play the CD there is a very brief gap of silence between the tracks, not what I wanted in a live concert recording. I have no way of measuring it, but I suspect the gaps are the durations of the overlaps. The smooth transitions I hear in the timeline are gone. This sounds like a bug. Any ideas?
    Thanks

Well actually it should work... but if you have markers set on non-CD boundary times, the chances are that you'll end up with gaps where the track indication has been set at the next boundary. What I'd suggest initially is that you go back to your edited file, set the time scaling on the time line to CD, and then set the snapping so that it snaps at CD boundaries. Then, reset the markers to land on them, and try again.
If it doesn't work properly then, we'd like to know about it!
