Audition cs5.5 does not work

Question

I'm trying the audition demo cs5.5
When I start the app I get the message mme device internal error ; check your audio harware
When i choose the appropriate driver for my hardware - asio . i get the error again and audition resets the drive to mme
Then I have no plackback
After that i can't start audition no more  it crashes the audio driver and closes with windows error
When i delete the audtion 4.0 folder in appdata - roaming ,  i can start again but the process is repeated
other versions of audition i used work fine with my soundcard :
e-mu 1616pci
on windows 7 32-bit
can someone help ?

I can't give you details, as it's a Mac - but the chances are that if you have imported all of your Audition settings from a previous machine, that one of them is essentially wrong for the new machine. So even though the preference appear to be correct, they aren't.
To give you an idea though, the thing to do is to read this FAQ:
Restoring the default settings for Audition CS6
It's essentially the same as for 5.5, except that the final target directory may have a lower number (like 4...). I'd pay particular attention to the section at the end, just before Durin's extra comment - it's probably this file that's incorrect.
