  • Does Audition Support Mackie HUI Protocol (Presonus Faderport)

Hi, im considering to buy Presonus Faderport but i have heard that Audition doesn't support Mackie HUI nor native FaderPort.. I want to know if is it for old versions (1.5 and 2.0) or all versions (if it does work with 3.0) and if there's news about upcoming Adobe version working with Faderport (native)? Thanks..

Hmmm... Didn't know there was another Mackie HUI control device.  Seems
kinda strange that Mackie would sign on with something that that wasn't
universal in this type of equiment.  I've had mine for a couple of years and
if memory serves me right I had to download a firmware update for it to talk
to Audition (2.0 at the time).  I updated the  firmware and away it went.  I
use it with both Audition and Cubase software and am quite pleased with it.
Sometimes I guess it would nice to just be like the Russians - we'd only
have one of something that way.  It might not work, but we'd all have the
    same thing.

  • How To Extend Adobe Audition CS5.5

I've received a number of questions on how to extend Adobe Audition with questions similar to:
How do I import file format X?
How do I import a project from application Y?
Will there be an SDK available?
How do I add plug-ins to Audition?
I had made a post similar to this in the public beta of Audition for Mac, but I can no longer find the thread. So I'll reiterate some stuff here:
    Area
    Info
    Adding VST Plug-Ins
Most of you have found this already, but the best place to start is in the Audio Plug-In Manager
If you want to "write" new plug-ins for Audition, writing a VST plug-in will be the best option as it will allow you to write something that will work on Windows as well as OSX.  Info on writing a VST plug-in may be found here (http://www.steinberg.net/en/company/developer.html)
Adding Audio Unit Plug-Ins (Mac OSX)
Same as Above.   Note that OSX ships with some built-in AU plug-ins that Audition can utilize for free if you just scan at least once.   We don't scan on startup because there's several plug-ins out there in the world that don't behave well.  Info on Audio Unit plug-in development can be found here (http://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#documentation/MusicAudio/Conceptual/AudioUnitProgr ammingGuide/TheAudioUnit/TheAudioUnit.html)
Adding more import formats via libsndfile
libsndfile is an open-source C library for reading and writing audio files (http://www.mega-nerd.com/libsndfile/)   Ambitious people could download the source, write support for another format, and create their own custom-rolled library of libsndfile.  You would then replace the version of libsndfile with which Audition CS5.5 ships, with the one you rolled.   Due to the way we use libsndfile, any format you add would show up in Audition.   This is also true if there's an official update to libsndfile that comes out in the future, you could just plop it in and it should work.
If you're interested in exporting or writing formats that libnsdfile supports, please tell us which formats are the most important to you and in what way you use them in your workflow.
Adding more import formats via QuickTime components
QuickTime has the ability to be extended via QuickTime Components.   There's several examples out there, but here are some websites to check out:
    QuickTime Components (http://www.apple.com/quicktime/resources/components.html)
Learn about even more QuickTime capabilities (http://www.apple.com/quicktime/extending/components.html)
Flip4Mac for Windows Media support on OSX (http://www.telestream.net/flip4mac-wmv/overview.htm)
Perian -- the swiss-army knife for QuickTime (http://perian.org/)
    Calibrated Software (http://www.calibratedsoftware.com/products.asp)
In most cases, just adding the various QuickTime components will automatically add the import functionality to Audition.
Importing project formats from other applications
As seen on other threads in this forum, Ses2sesx (http://www.aatranslator.com.au/ses2sesx.html) and AATranslator (http://www.aatranslator.com.au/) seem to add quite a bit of support.
    SDK
At this time, we haven't released an SDK for Audition.   If you're interested in one, however, please tell us what you would want from an SDK for Audition and we'll take it into consideration.

    Charles,
could you please also advise what PC users can do to make common avi files useable in AA CS5.5? The obvious problem is, no matter how many exotic video formats a PC can play by way of video-for-windows codecs, these are useless for Quicktime, because Quicktime on the PC needs codecs specifically written for "Quicktime for Windows", which are, as I've come to find, EXTREMELY rare. So far I've only found ONE, sold by 3ivx, but this costs as much as the AA CS5.5 update itself. Without them, Quicktime on the PC will only handle mov files, which are not too popular on the PC. Is there any other way out of this?

  • Open / save .mp2 files in Audition CS5.5? [Not .mp3]

Anyone know how to open / save .mp2 files in Audition CS5.5? [Not .mp3]

    a) costly for Adobe to implement
To make the CS5.5 deadline, and with the cross-platform rewrite, we simply weren't able to get to some things on our list (not that we ditched the features or anything).   However, MPEG 1 Layer II, and MPEG 2 Layer II have their own royalty issues that we have to pay for.
Wild_Duck wrote:b) they thought not many people needed it.
Not the case at all, we know many of our loyal radio customers need this functionality on a daily basis.   I do, however, have to admit that we saw this as less prevelant than .mp3 (when looking at our total customer base).

I keep meaning to make a list of things that use mp2 like radio playout systems, the Nagra field recorder, DAB files and so on so as to make more of a case. Any examples of mp2 need should be flagged up to Adobe.
Best thing to do would be to amass a set of test files such that if/when we support this, it can be more thoroughly tested in-house before we put it out the door.   I have a good set from various places, but we always get our best and trickiest test files from customers.

  • I have not found any answers yet to solve this problem. Smooth Scroll Auditions CS5

I used to used Audition 3 and when recording or playing back the recorded wave form would be smooth and when it reaches the right hand edge of the screen it just smoothly continues. I have updated to Auditions CS5 and I cannot get it to do the same. It seem to jump back to leave more room instead on continually scrolling. In the preference option there is no option I can see to change this. The only option shows Playback but this seen to also just jump back to leave more room.   Any idea where the setting it so make is smooth?   Thanks in advance

Hello Ryclark..     The playback is the same as record.  Unlike AD3, when the waveform gets to the right had side of the time line it JUMPS back to make room for the continuing recording where the recording is longer than the width of the screen.  After an online chat with Adobe support ( who do not seem to know how their software works) , in the end they said that the new feature was for the Cursor and Waveform to Jump back to leave room for the continuation of the recording....unlike AD3 which smoothly scrolled the waveform.  It is a step backwards and looks like a novice attempt...  So if anyone wants to know if there is a solution to this backward step the Answer it NO. It is a new Jumpy flow layout.    Seems like Adobe are getting like Microsoft,,,

  • Audition CS5.5 (OSX) + RME HDSPe MADI Soundcard Problem

There is a big problem here with Audition CS5.5 and the RME HDSPe MADI soundcard.
Stereo playback is no problem but surround playback is. This is a 64in/64out soundcard and Audition
seems to have problems with the amount of outputs. With surround playback and the output channels
set to 1/2/3/4/5/6 for 5.1 playback, the output starts at channel 57! Then one channel is left out - the next
playback channel is 59 and so on. Please make Audition CS5.5 aware of more I/O channels.
When I switch to the additional RME HDSPe PCIe card which only has 26 I/O Audition works normal and addresses
all I/Os correctly as far as I could check.
I even have the two soundcards aggregated to a 90in/90out CoreAudio device. It would be great to have the possibility
to use this aggregated device too. RME allows on driver level to combine different/multiple soundcards for ASIO and CroeAudio.
It would be great if Audition can support all audio interface combinations.
The RME soundcards work absolutely flawless on the same machine with Nuendo 5, PT HD9 and Logic 9 so I can exlude
    any driver or setup problem.
Manyn thanks in advance for any effort to solve this.

I have to say that I'm a bit surprised no official seems to take this serious enough to answer to this problem.
Audition CS5.5 is surprisingly good and mainly layed out very ergonomically. Therefore I think a lot more
professionals will be interested in this software. But things like problems with sound card environments with I/O cpability
above, let's say, 32 channels is a major show stopper.
I'm very confident that the problems lies in Auditions channel handling with CoreAudio, because any other (professional) software
runs perfectly with 128 or 180 channels I/O combined.
I read in another post that no patches are planned until CS6. This would be a real drag ... to use Audition with surround files and
higher channel count I have to do work arounds that aren't funny at all.

  • Audition CS5.5 - How to go over 100% in Volume Envelope

So I'm trying to do a simple amplify envelope, with smooth louden and quieting, and the only envelope I can find is the Volume Envelope. But when I try using it, the maximum volume is 100% which is the original volume. The only tool I can find to make it actually louder is Amplify, which just makes the whole selection larger in decibels, with no volume curvature. I just want to smoothly lift the volume from 100% to something around 500%, and then smoothly let it back down to 100%.
    How do I manage this?

What you did not explicate is that Audition CS5.5 does not support the feature - which is quite ridiculous since the earlier version CS4 does.
Anyhow, it still doesn't work; none of the options in the Normalization dialog allow me to lift the volume above 100%.
The only way I found to raise the volume is, as I already stated, is Amplify, which I already knew.
So, if the feature is not supported, then the issue has changed:
If I use Amplify, which is in decibels, then apply a Volume Envelope, which is in %, how do I confirm that the rest of the audio is being restored to its original volume?

  • Presonus Faderport in Logic 10.1 - Mac forgets device after some time

I've been using a Presonus Faderport with my Mac and Logic X for a while now. I found the appropriate Presonus 64 bit driver and how-to on installing it. It's all good - as long as it is recognized.
Since the latest revision 10.1 however, somehow Logic forgets the Faderport after a few hours. By now I've figured out that I need to reset all sorts of Midi and device settings a few times and then it goes back to normal (even after restarting the program) - until the next day or so when the whole things starts over again.
Any thoughts what could cause this? Are there any plans to update drivers or firmware for the otherwise great and extremely useful device?
    Thanks

I can get OS utilities up using CMD R or holding the shift key (eventually), but if I simply then reinstall the OS will it not loose everything on my drive?
Reinstalling 10.10.x should not lose any user data or files.
I agree that 10.10 is a terrible downgrade for an OS, but not sure if you can restore 10.6.x from TM...'
Have you looked through Pondini's extensive TM help site?

Can't imagine something not being covered there.
As to your current problem, it's likely some incompatible 3rd party App or kext causing the problem...
Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions. Does that work?
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive & clear caches.)
What all 3rd party extentions are you running?

  • PreSonus Faderport - LE 7 Compatibility??

A while back II upgraded from GB4 to LE7, and my first thought was that now that I have logic I will be able to purchase this particular control surface I had my eye on - the PreSonus Faderport. Having tactile controls is important to me, and the Faderport is much cheaper than a full controlling mixer. HOWEVER, I am dissapointed to read on the PreSonus website that "Logic Express and Garage Band are NOT currently supported"!
I'd LOVE to hear from someone here that this is just bullshi*t from PreSonus because they have not official tested it in LE.
If not, it's the last straw - I'm putting out for Logic Studio.
    thanks,

One of the 4 things that LP8 has that LE8, LE7, and GB don't have is high-end control surface support.

  • Visual C++ runtime error on startup audition cs5.5 win8.1

After reinstalling Audition cs5.5, I get a visual C++ runtime error at startup.  I have never had a problem before on a reinstallation.  I have tried uninstall and reinstall without any success.  Is their a version of Visual C++ that is needed here?  Is this an incompatibility problem with Win 8.1?  Has anyone else had this problem?  I haven't had any luck in the FAQ section.

The only issues I've ever heard about involving this appear to have been caused by having too many versions of the run-time on a machine. I'm not entirely sure what the situation with software only running properly with the version it was intended to is, but apparently clearing out older versions (you can check this out and remove them if you want using the normal uninstall routine) has fixed this particular problem on at least one occasion. It's worth investigating, anyway.

  • Adobe Audition CS5.5 with Premiere Pro CS5

    Hello everybody.
I am considering downgrading from Master Collection CS5 to Adobe Production Premium CS5.5
But quite frankly it's just because of one application.
Though, i am in doubt if i'll actually going to make the downgrade.
And as you could and might have guessed it is the Adobe Audition CS5.5 Application.
Though really the whole pack has a GREAT improvement overall, I just actaully want to mix SEAMLESSLY with Premiere Pro and sound editing application (Audition).
Which leads me to my next question.
Now with Adobe Soundbooth CS5 closed off (by April 24th), and an UPGRADE for Soundbooth CS5 users to Audition CS5. Does this mean that Audition CS5.5 works SEAMLESSLY with Premiere Pro CS5?
Is there a dynamic link between the two applications? (Audition CS5.5 and Premiere Pro CS5)
AM i able to send mixes between the two? I really don't want to loose any Audio data, such as 5.1 channel mapping, volume mixing, denoising, general mixing etc.
All i really need is some good quality sound editing which works seamless, as After Effects and Premiere Pro has proved to me can be done.
Just want to know if it is possible. Or if I REALLY have to upgrade in order to get the sweet apples.
    Best
    Lucas

    Hi _durin_
    Thanks for your quick response.
But I didn't quite understand your answer.
I have seen Jason Levine's video earlier, as CS5.5 was announced and it looks natively good. I understand the mixdown attributes etc.
Please correct me if im wrong HOWEVER this workflow and settings applies still to ONLY the new CS5.5 Version?
Im currently using Master Collection CS5.
Instead of getting either the Production Premium, or Master Collection I am strongly considering updating Soundbooth CS5 to Audition CS5.5 (the option is there as i can tell by SoundBooth's website, though i get a weird error message when I click the update link...)
However I need to know, IF Audition CS5.5 works well with the PREVIOUS version (that'll be CS5 not 5.5), of Premiere Pro.
Are there an option to render the reference video, and generate a interchange session from WITHIN Premiere Pro CS5 to Audition CS5.5?
Im sorry if I either sound harsh or "willingly" misunderstanding. But I have only documentation on how the integration works between the current versions (meaning 5.5).
Im as you can guess VERY confused over the move from Adobe to make a .5 version instead of a full-fledged CS6 solution. It causes a stir, cause I then don't know much of the integration between the previous applications.
I have seen as an example that Photoshop CS5 have gotten the update to receive paintings/files made with their new touch API. So I wonder whether integrational features will be a part of the CS5 pack since, as i've mentioned, an application like Soundbooth gets replaced with Audition, with an upgrade option for the Soundbooth owners.
Im confused and hope you can help me clear my mind up, whether to upgrade or not. I will download the trial eventually, but not onto my current CS5 system since I already use this in my daily video work and want to AVOID confusion.
    Best
    Lucas
