Audition edit causes Premiere to re-conform every file
I've recently used Audition 3.0 to edit audio clips via 'render-and-replace' in a few Premiere CS4 projects. The export to Audition works fine; I can edit/process my clips, save and go back to Premiere CS4 with no problem. But when I get back to Premiere, I find it re-conforming every file in my project. The last project was a 1.25hr concert shot with multiple cameras and had a few external extra audio tracks (like an 8 channel multi-track recording) and it took a long time to re-conform all the audio. I can render and replace with Soundbooth CS4 without incident. I don't like Soundbooth.
Has anyone else experienced this problem or know how to stop it? It's a big waste of time.

Following are the rules of comforming from adobe docs. Based on this I would say your audio should not have to conform. I dont have audition on my system at the moment, so I cant confirm, deny, or test it. Anyone else duplicate this?
These rules determine which types of audio get conformed:
Uncompressed audio
Adobe Premiere Pro does not conform audio in uncompressed clips that were recorded in one of the natively supported sample rates, when you use these clips in sequences with matching sample rates.
Adobe Premiere Pro does conform audio in uncompressed clips when you use them in sequences with non-matching sample rates. However no conforming is done until you export the sequences or create audio preview files.
Adobe Premiere Pro does conform audio in uncompressed formats that were not recorded in a natively supported sample rate. In most of these cases, it will upsample the audio either to the nearest supported sample rate, or to a supported sample rate that is an even multiple of the source audio sample rate. For example, it will upsample an 11024Hz source to 11025Hz, since that is the nearest supported rate, and there is no supported rate that is an even multiple of 11024.
Compressed audio
Adobe Premiere Pro does conform all compressed audio, such as audio found in mp3, WMA, MPEG, or compressed MOV files. It conforms this audio at the sample rate of its source file. For example it will conform a 44100Hz mp3 file at 44100Hz. However, if the conformed audio is used in a sequence with a non-matching sampling rate, as when a 44100Hz clip is used in a 44000Hz sequence, the audio will play back at the sample rate of the sequence without further conforming.

Must render every file first????
Hi,
From reading other posts this sounds like it may be a firewire/pci card/ external hard drive issue. I cannot import onto my external hd (which is set up for Mac OS extended) from FCP. I either have to import onto the G5's internal HD then copy onto the external hd or use iMovie to import clips directly to external hd. But now that they are there, when I bring them into a FCP project, they hiccup in the viewer and when I drag them into the timeline, they all have to be rendered first. I have never had that problem. It is already a hassle enough the way I have to get clips onto the external hd, am I stuck with rendering each clip or is there a setting that I must not have right.
Thanks
Dave
PS Each clip plays just fine as a standalone Quicktime File.Don't capture with iMovie. It saves as a different type of file that FCP does not like.
Make sure your sequence settings match the clips you are putting on there (which will be impossible for files captured in imovie). The biggest cause of having to render every file is sequence settings that don't match the video clips being put on the sequence.

I am using 4K Footages for editing in Premiere pro CC 2014, but its getting crash in between at every 15 to 20 mins. Kindly suggest how can it be solved, does any plugins or settings needed to edit 4K footages? Also would like to mention that footages frame rates are 29.97 and i have set timeline to 25 FPS is requirement by client. kindly revert. Thanks
Thanks Richarad ..It has solved the problem but still crashes some times .As the programme has the break (bumper)after every five minutes ,i hope it will not compress bumper time too after export.

I can edit on Premiere Pro 6 files, but after a dozen keystrokes, the space bar and cursor keys stop working while the save function, render workspace function, export file are still operational. How can I fix it so I may complete my assignment?
Besides DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Creative Suite 6 is the only software on the machine. I am using Windows 7 Professional 64-bit Operating System on AMD FX 6100 six-Core Processor at 3.31gHz and 32 GB RAM memory. There are two SLI-bridged GTX680 NVidia cards.
The software was very stable for the last six months, working with 720P proxy files from 2.5K masters (Blackmagic Design Camera). I am working on a feature-length project that exceeds 1000 edits. I have broken the file into 2 one hour segments.
I have deactivated the software before reinstalling the entire OS from scratch. PP6 was very stable for 48 hours. Then the freezing space bar returns. After a dozen strokes into the project, same problem. I have made cache files store next to originals, I have deleted preview files if they were corrupted and causing instability. Am I missing something?
I have Microsoft Security Essentials for virus protection. I double checked the memory for damage/defect. Nothing says that the motherboard or other components are damaged.
I am in film competition overseas and need to have deliverables in less than a month's time. I lost the last two weeks troubleshooting and this crisis came at an inopportune moment of the project.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.Still getting software freezes but found a way to mitigate for the mean time.
Upon launching Adobe Premiere Pro, hit CTRL-ALT-DEL to launch TaskManager as well.
You will want to highlight Adobe QT32 Server.exe
Right click and select "End Process Tree"
You will get considerable stability in the program, long enough to get timing of cuts done. Be sure to save often.
If the program freezes, do not hit Save. You definitely want to avoid saving the corruption into your TimeLine
CTRL-ALT-DEL to relaunch the TaskManager and highlight Adobe Premiere Pro.exe
Right-click to "End Process"
No need to reboot the whole system; just launch Premiere Pro again and continue with the session. Note that your work reverted to Last Save.
Hope this helps until the bug is fixed. -
Offline editing in Premiere CS6
Hi!
I'm thinking about to edit a feature film in Premiere putting together all the episodes of my webserie. It's an action webserie and has a lot of cuts. It is in H.264 from 7d so is very difficult to play in real time.
Are there any way to make proxies of the sequence for a more fluid edit and reconnect later with the original files (as you can do in Avid or FCPX)?Yes indeed!
But you will have to use the fonction "replace with" to files one by one. Then it will relink the low res files to HD files into your timeline.

Hi Denis, thanks for your help.
Yes, right now I have one of the last MacBook Pro (no retina) but only with 4Gb of RAM. But I originally edit the series in my Macpro (with 24Gb and quadro 4000) and the action sequences still had problem to play well in H.264.
My problem is that I have every episode already edit, although I'll probably change it when I mix all together.
So, I think in this solution following your advice:
•Make a Project manager of the sequences to one folder.
•Batch transcode the resulting clips to a proxy version in another folder, with different name but maintaining the original name of the clips
•Relink the sequences to the new ones
In this way I can easily switch from offline to online version, right?

I'm a professional video editor (using Premiere and After Effects) looking to buy a new MacBook Pro and am deciding between two models. The slightly older model has a 2.8GHZ i7 (3rd generation) Quad Core processor with a 1GB SDRAM of NVIDIA GE FORCE GT 650M Graphics Card. Then newer model has a 2.3GHZ i7 (4th generation) Quad Core preocessor with 2GB SDRAM of NVIDIA GE FORCE 750M/Intel Iris Pro Graphics Card.
Which makes the most difference (processor speed vs. graphics card) with editing with Premiere and After Effects?
Any help/guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

You recon? If he get's the 17", he would have up to 8x more RAM, 4 x more GPU,, and a bit faster CPU;.
2. Be aware of the advantages and disadvantages of extra RAM. Loading up the slot will make juggling multiple applications easier, like Photoshop, VLC, and Safari. However, more than 4gigs of RAM will make loading your MBP on startup twice as slow - at least a minute, probably longer. That's why a MBP user with extra RAM should sleep their machine nearly always when not in use, rather than powering off.
I did not know this, I just upgraded from 4gb to 8gb the other day. Have not noticed it being slower, but I don't often shut it down. It's nice to not even have to bother with ifreemem.
3. Additional storage and RAM will maximize the basic capabilities of your MBP, but you won't be able to make a 2.3ghz machine any faster than it already is.
SSD
4. I still feel that your iMac will be faster than your prospective MBP. The only way to dramatically increase the speed would be the installation of a SSD drive (like the lauded OWC series). But they're not cheap.
I don't want to rain on your parade, but want you to get a more realistic idea of your performance.
I chose a macbook pro, 17" of cause. I use it for gaming. Yes a iMac is better for gaming. But, it's nice to be able to move around. Set up a man cave in the lounge 1 week, or in the bedroom, the next. But you fork out a lot more dosh for that luxury. And yes, not as much power as Poikkeus has said. -
The new Import Sequence feature causes Premiere Pro CC to CRASH!
*** This was happening before the update, and the update to 7.01 has not fixed this issue.***
I have a series of intros and end slates for a YouTube series. I (kind of) love the new Import Sequence from Project feature, new in PPr CC. But more often than not, trying to import a sequence from another project using the Media Browser causes Premiere to crash. Can anyone else report whether this is NOT working for you, too. I can imagine scenarios where you either don't use this feature, or haven't gotten around to it since the launch of CC.
Thanks in advance for anyone who is willing to test and verify whether this is a bug.
Win7 64-bit
ASUS g75vx Laptop
i7-3630qm
NVIDIA GTX-670mx, 3GB GDDR5
16GB RAMWell, certainly one of my sequences (let's call it "A") always causes a crash. Sequence B was NOT causing a crash last week. Today sequence B started crashing (in 7.0). So I updated to 7.01 and tried again. Still crashing (always, now). So I set out to create a new sequence C.
To create sequence C, I opened a successfully completed project from last week. I Saved As... "New Opening Sequences". Next, I cut away every sequence except for the sequence that holds the intro. I did a Project > Remove Unused to get rid of all the footage, titles, etc. Now I had a project that only contained Sequence C and it's linked media. Nothing is offline. Everything is in tact.
Finally, I open the project I need to finish today. I need to add the bumper to the front of the video. So I navigate within the Media Browser to find the "New Opening Sequences" project. I double click. I get the yellow, dynamic link-like loading bar. When the project media, bins and sequences appear, I double-click the sequence I want to impor.... KKKKKEHEHHE!!! Crash.
I'll restart to get you the exact error message...
WOW!!! I just left this window open to go get the exact error message for you. I went through the same steps above. It worked this time. So to answer your question, Sequence C is also hit or miss. This is the first successful attempt today (about 10 previous tries, restarts, etc).
Definitely seems like a bug. Can anyone else reproduce this crash?
P.S. - Perhaps it's significant, perhaps not: In all cases, A, B and C, these sequences have Dynamic Linked footage from After Effects (animations). While they do have some live-action, they are primarily AE animations. This may help you reproduce the crash.
I'm also not running anything unusual. Mainly the OS, a browser, Webroot SecureAnywhere (Anti-virus), Premiere. -
Canon XF Import Causes Premiere CS6 to Crash. Help!
I purchased a Canon XF300 to work specifically with Premiere CS6 as Adobe claims native support for MXF files.
Unfortunately, whenever I import footage from the XF300 into Premiere, it causes Premiere to crash.
This happens no matter what method I use to import the files... using XF Ultility, using Prelude, clicking on import in the Premiere CS6 media browser, opening the files in the media browser and dragging and dropping into a bin. It doesn't matter. The crash still happens.
This is not an issue with spanned clips as it happens even without spanned clips.
After importing the clips into a bin, the bin has trouble drawing thumbnails for all the clips, usually but not always the ones not initially visible in the bin window. The thumbnails don't appear, just gray boxes. Scrolling down and clicking on the gray boxes, even after waiting several minutes for the system to "catch up," causes a crash.
This is a repeatable problem that *only* happens when using Canon MXF footage. Every other codec I've tried works just fine. The Canon footage never works.
I am on a Mid-2012 Mac Pro 2x 3.06 GHz 6-Core Inten Xeon computer running 64GB of Ram on OSX 10.8.3, using Premiere 6.0.2 Creative Cloud. I use a Matrox MX02 for I/O and a NVIDIA Quadro 4000 with CUDA Driver 5.0.59.
I've troubleshot this problem to death, stripping everything from the machine down to its original factory state (no extra RAM, no NVIDIA card, no Matrox I/O etc.) and the system still crashes every single time I try to import the MXF footage, no matter what method I use. The only workaround is to transcode to ProRes and that's not acceptable.
Am I the only one having this issue? Is there something glaringly obvious I'm overlooking? Thanks in advance for any assistance or perspective. I am growing increasingly frustrated as I feel Adobe has a software problem here they're not addressing. That's the thing. The system drive has plenty of space... 762Gb out of 1TB available. All the HDs have a ton of space on them. This has happened since Day 1 when the entire system was brand new.
And only with Canon XF files. No other codec produces behavior even remotely similar on my system. It's baffling because everyhting is up to spec as far as I can determine and yet the problem persists.
Limiting the number of clips in a bin is unworkable because of the type of work I'm doing. Transcoding is the only answer at this point but I really would like to know what's causing this.
I really wish Adobe could try to recreate the problem. Does anyone else out there using Mac OSX and CS6 have trouble with XF files? Is it a known issue? -
Why does my footage have to conform every time that I open my project?
Working on my senior thesis film, and I am using my university's Mac Lab. Whenever I open the project, Premiere has to conform all of my footage, which takes about an hour for the size of this project.
I thought it had something to do with the Media Cache Files and Media Cache Databases being stored locally on the computer you were working on. Does anyone know if that is the case for sure?
Does anyone know a solution for preventing my project from having to conform each time I open it?The project does occassionally move from one machine to another. The project file and all of the video files are located on an external hard drive.
At our university, they wipe all of the user accounts at midnight on schedule. This means we can't store all 200GB+ of our footage on the local machine.
As I wrote in my other thread, I had come to the conclusion that Premiere was doing this because it generates all of the peak files and render files to the local machine. These files either get wiped by the school (because they're stored in
/Users/USERNAME/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Media Cache Files
and
/Users/USERNAME/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Media Cache
which are local, username-based directories) or they are written and changed (for example: I edit on computer A (where the project conforms all the footage), later, I go edit some on computer B (where it conforms all of the footage again probably because it's on a new computer), and then if I go back to computer A, it notices changes have been made to some of the generated files.)
Potential Solution(?):
I thought about trying to go to these directories and copying the folders and their contents to the external hard drive, and then copying and pasting them to the proper directory on a computer before I start editing, but that will require me to do a lot of copying and pasting.
My other idea was to try and change the location of where Premiere saves the Media Cache Files and Media Cache Database to their location on the hard drive (after I copy those folders from a machine once they've conformed), but I do not know how to change the default location for these fiels in Premiere before I open the project.
Thoughts?? -
Computer CONSTANTLY restarts while editing with premiere and after effects
Whenever i edit in premiere or after effects, my computer will always just randomly restart. It normally does it more in after effects than premiere, but lately, it has been doing it a lot in premiere, sometimes as much as every 15 minutes. Here are my specs:
Windows 7 64 Bit
i7 Processor
12GB Ram
4tb Raid system
NVIDA GEFORCE video card
800 watt power supply
3ghz speed
Does anyone know what the problem could be? I have been told that it could be the video card before, but I highly doubt that my video card is not sufficient enough for basic video editing on premiere, as I know many people who have worse video cards that edit with no problem. Please help! Here is all the information about my computer:

Sony HDD Handycam video editing in Premiere Pro CS3
Is PPCS3 Software compatible with MPEG2 Camcorder recordings?
Based on reading a LOT of problem reports, importing files from a DVD or hard drive camcorder or other MPEG device (including digital STILL cameras that create MJPEG files) or trying to edit divx, or Ripping DVD files rarely results in success in Premiere... do not be fooled by movie industry advertising into thinking that "DVD Quality Video" is suitable for EDITING... it is not... a DVD is designed to be for PLAYBACK only... and that includes trying to edit a Standard Def MPEG or VOB file!
You should also use WAV sound files, not the compressed MP3 format
The only SD (Standard Def) files that Premiere really likes are DV AVI type 2 (be sure you have type 2 and not DV AVI type 1 files)
HD (High Definition) files are a completely different issue... I don't use HD, so can't say anything about editing those files
Go to my notes page http://www.pacifier.com/~jtsmith/ADOBE.HTM
Click the internal link for editing compressed files... read, there are some ideas & links there, including some links to other programs that have been mentioned in the Premiere forum as being better suited to editing MPG files... if you want to edit a divx file, start at http://www.divx.com/
If you only have DVD type files, you should convert to DV AVI type 2 or use different software... go to the VideoHelp link in my notes and look for a program to convert... but do be aware that converting from a HIGHLY compressed viewing format back to an editing format is going to cause a drop in quality

To work with AC3 sound files in Premiere CS3, copy the ad2ac3dec.dll file from the Encore CS3 directory into the Premiere directory
For a Firewire DV Camera - look at Panasonic PV-GS320 or GS500 (Note that I have not used either, but they have good reviews)

Media encoder cc pauses while I edit in premiere cc!
If I try editing in premiere cc while encoding in media encoder cc, the encode pauses. what gives?
If you'll notice your encoding in AME, it normally maxes out all your CPU cores. It does mine. This is awesome!
But, if you want to edit, you need those cores, especially with Long-GOP footage that relies on CPU for real-time decompression. So, in effect, you're telling your computer to let Pr take over the CPU when you start editing in Pr.
It's a pretty smart way that Adobe enabled this behavior, if you ask me. -
i have acrobat standard and it will not allow me to edit.. every file i go to open it says "there is a active file open and must close in acrobat" other times it says account cannot be validated after I have already paid for it.. please advise
Hi Timothy,
The account cannot be validated error was due to a glitch on our activation server that has been fixed now.
Please try using acrobat now and check if you are still facing the problem.

Why does Premiere Pro CS5 eat up space on my C drive when it conforms video files?
Hey everyone. I have Premiere Pro CS5 with the latest update installed. I am running Windows 7 64-bit on a 120GB Corsair SSD drive. I have set my scratch disk video and audio previews to a different hard drive (F: drive). I have three questions:
1. Why does Premiere eat up space on my C drive whenever it conforms the video files I import into my project?
2. Where on my C drive can I find the folder that holds all these conformed video files that are taking up space on my C drive?
3. How do I prevent Premiere from eating up space on my hard drive when it conforms the video files I import into my project? Is there some way to move whatever folder is eating up space on my hard drive when Premiere conforms the video files and tell Premiere to conform the video files on another hard disk so I don't lose precious space on my C drive?
Okay, that's four questions but, can some please help me on this? Thanks.
Okay, that's five questions.hello,
i think you need to relocate you media cache files to a separate drive other than your c: drive.
in the hardware forum, Harm has done a wonderful job at advising on HDD setup, i think it mentions relocation
of swap file, media cache, etc. all which are defaulted to your c: in your user profile
after relocating to different physical drives (all without partitions) performance usually increases
Generic Guideline for Disk Setup by harm
hope this helps til someone else answers more
good luck...
