Audition saves to unknown font?

I had to install Audition (3.0) to my laptop while the desktop computer's problems are dealt with. I'm extracting tracks from my audio CDs and saving the resulting WAV files to mp3's to save room on the iPod. (Books on CD have such astonishingly awful sound that there's, for all practical purposes, no loss!)
When I drag the .mp3 files to the iPod, and also when I play them in Windows Media Player, the filenames show up as outline box characters and tildes. A little snooping discovered that the titles of the files (properties/summary) have the same number and kind of characters, presumably representing the same unreadable characters. iPod and Windows Media evidently use these titles as their track names.
Have I inadvertently done something odd to the program or am I just missing a font? (but why wouldn't this information be in a system font...)
More detail below, for anyone who needs it.
TIA
molly
The summary window simple view for the mp3 files has editable spaces for title and comments -- the other lines are greyed out. Nothing is editable in the summary window for the WAV files.
Here's the procedure: I extract all the tracks to one file, trim the ends ("change the CD" etc) and save as a Windows PCM WAV file (which I've always done). I select about a third of the tracks (using the 'snap' function so tracks are exact) at a time and save each selection to an mp3 file named something like Book01_01 (.mp3 added by program).
This computer is running XP with service pack 2 plus updates. I'm saving to an external -- always did that with the desktop too -- tried saving to the laptop's C: drive -- made no difference. The damaged computer was much fancier and was running Vista, while it worked. I never had the problem. I was given Premiere Pro (CS3) with the computer (couldn't stomach Soundbooth so bought Audition) so it had Bridge and probably a bunch of fonts and I can't guess what else installed.
Since this is a temporary installation and I only have dialup, I haven't upgraded Audition.

Yep.
<In Edit View, go to File>File Info and in the Text Field Names box, select the MP3 ID3 tag
Changing to to Mp3 did the trick -- no further input needed as I name files so that they can be sorted in sequence (as they were arranged on the CD). Windows Media and iTunes then read the filenames.
But I wonder why I hadn't had the problem before -- if RIFF was the default when saving to WAV, as it seem it must have been.
Another thing I learned while fooling around -- the convenience of extracting a CD to a single waveform with the tracks marked is a function of "save extra non-audio information!" I'd thought it was in the .pk files saved with WAV files.
Anyway, thanks a lot.

Reply's a bit late as I had opportunity to test it by extracting the files from discs 2 to 7 of a set, of which I'd extracted disc 1 before I came to my wits' end and this forum. Both Windows Media and iTunes displayed the filenames -- I'd guess from that that any player would.

Could you explain what you want to do a little bit better? CMYK and fonts aren't really related to each other.
Also, are you using Photoshop or InDesign?

  • FOP: unknown font ... problems whith multiple threads

I know that FOP (0.20.5) is not fully threadsafe, so I followed the suggested actions to minimze problems and even serialized the core FOP processing in my report threads:
/** Semaphore to synchronize FOP processing. */
    static private final Object fopSerializer = new Object();
    private File createPDF(...) {
        synchronized (fopSerializer) {
}so each concurrent thread that wants to create a PDF via FOP should be serialized and therefore, only 1 thread is using FOP at a time. However, if I run lots of those threads, sometimes I still get those "unknown font ..." error message once in a while that I don't get when running all such threads in sequence.

Please try your test with latest ODP.NET patch 9202100.

If you're getting that one on iTunes 7.3.0.54, try an upgrade to iTunes 7.3.1.3. (Note that Michael, who replied to you earlier in the thread, is reporting that here: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=4923385#4923385 )

  • Illustrator CC 2014 file unable to save when live fonts are included.

Illustrator CC 2014 file will not save when there is any kind of font included that IS NOT outlined / converted to paths.
Does not matter what font. I have tried saving as .PDF / .EPS and I still experience the error ("An unknown error has occurred").
If I copy and paste that live font into another .AI file I have open, then that file will also not save and I get the exact same "unknown error" box when trying to do so.
I'm on an iMac and not using any font management software.
    Anyone experience this issue yet?

    masonicstyle,
I believe the first guess is corrupted font(s)/font caches, see Items 1) and 11) in  Other options (follow the link with that name).
It could be any (number of) font(s) in the fonts folder, not just the one(s) in the document.

  • Open and Save Dialog Box Font Size

Greetings. Does anyone know how to change the font and icon sizes in Open and Save Dialog boxes in OSX 10.8? Back in Snow Leopard days, the parameters were stored in the users .GlobalPreferences.plist. But they do not appear to be there - or at least I don't recognize them in OSX 10.8. I recently started using a 27 inch Cinema Display, and the fonts are a bit small for me.
I appreciate any help anyone can offer.

Good question!  Do submit feedback to Apple.  Maybe if enough of us complain about this fundamental issue, they'll finally listen!

  • Open, save and then fonts are missing

I am receiving InDesign 5.5 files from clients. I can open them, make changes, do a save-as and close. When I immediately re-open the file, I get an error that most of the fonts are missing. I am using Linotype Font Explorer X, v 1.2.3 and I understand it is the latest version. Can someone tell me why this is happening?

Umm. I will have to check. I may be saving just outside of their job folder in the our enclosing job folder. We put client files/folders into a job folder with that job number on it. When doing the "save as", normal procedure is to save just outside the original file folder, leaving original client files untouched and our files separate from theirs. I may have tried saving into the client folder, but will go back and try that.

  • Unknown font name appearing in some styles

After importing xml and applying fonts with XML rules, there are some places in my document - typically, lines with nothing but an insertion point from a \r above - that have [No Paragraph Style] or an existing style applied, however, the Font and Font Style are [Times] and [Roman] respectively. I don't know where these come from, and do not know how to get rid of them.
So, when I save and reopen the document, I get a missing font dialog.
At first I thought it was only with [No Paragraph Style] instances, so I could solve by replacing those. However, it seems to be wherever an carriage return is added in the text at the end of existing styles. So, replacing all of a specific style with an existing will not work.
I need to find and replace all instance of the Font - and yet, I see from other posts that in InDesign CS 3 5.0 I cannot find missing fonts with a script.
Does anyone know of a solution?
    Thanks for your help.

Perhaps it's some sort of incompatibility with Quicktime, which is the foundation of the iLife apps.
A workaround might be to create your menu background in Photoshop, using your new font, and export a jpg version. You'll be able to drop this onto iDVD's background (not into a drop box) and it will replace the existing theme background.

  • Will Audition save to a VOX Mu-law 8-bit file?

We are using a really old software called Aardvark right now because it saves our IVR (phone queue recordings) into this format. Aardvard no longer exists and won't work on XP or higher so we are trying to find something else that will work. I see that Audition can play vox files but can it record in this format as well. I'm just an IT guy here in my company so I apologize for the ignorance of this post. Any help I can get would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure it will record in that exact format, but it can record in 8-bit.
You can save files in Audition as 8-bit mu-Law, so my suggestion is to record in a better resolution (at least 16-bit, 44.1kHz), do any editing that needs to be done, then save the file as an 8-bit mu-Law.

  • Save svg with font-weight:bold rather than a bold font?

Illustrator is changing the font in my svgs to Arial-BoldMT, which causes it to publish incorrectly (doesn't show up bold).
When I change the svg code to ArialMT; font-weight:bold, it publishes correctly. Any idea how to have Illustrator save the svgs with the font-weight:bold attribute so I don't have to change it in the code?
    Thanks for your help.

Out of curiosity may I ask why you are using svg, is this for mobile devices.
Try uninstalling Arial-BoldMT on your system.

Searched, really? This time search for "unknown error". There are plenty of threads related to this problem. Also search for "Zune", also a known problem for "unknown error".
The short answer is reset (delete) your preferences. This is in the FAQs here:

thank you! and sorry for my english.

Copyright means Krontiris owns them.  An owner gives or sells a license for others to use them.  So, yes, you have to ask for the license before you distribute them.
Most of the references I found, searching with ' "Spiros Krontiris" fonts' were from Russian web-sites.  I actually did mean Cyrillic was hampering my search but wasn't clear enough with what I wrote.  My mistake.
You may have better search results using "Σπύρου Κροντήρη" than I do.
