Augmented records disappear

I am trying to integrate Lion Server Open Directory with Active Directory.
I can create augmented records in /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1/Augments, either directly using dscl or through Server.app's function to import users from another directory.
However, after I reboot the server, all augmented records disappear.
I've been going after this simple goal for many hours, without success. I've gone so far as to do a clean reinstall of Lion Server. But nothing I have been able to do will change the fact that augment records do not persist through reboots.
I wonder if this is a bug in my procedure, or in Lion Server. Can anyone confirm that persistent augmented records can be created in Lion Server?

I too have experienced disappearing augments, with 10.7.2. On my last attempt however, I made a brand new NetInstall of 10.7.2 (as outlined here) and the augments seemed to persist.
However, augments, although still supported by Apple, seem to work very differently in Lion.
The scenario we have is that we need to log in with AD credentials, and if you're on a Mac, the home folder is mounted from a Lion Server via AFP (we leave the original AD home folder in their profile in Windows untouched, so they can happily go back to Windows) Essentially two home folders.
This was all fine under 10.6 but the "merge" that used to happen on Snow Leopard (i.e. seeing your augments from a dscl search on a boound client) doesn't work as intended, at least not yet.
From Apple's official documentation you can create an augment on a server and connect to that server with credentials on the "master" server. This has to be done now in order to become a member server in an AD domain. Simple example would be... I have a Windows AD user called "bobjones" if I try to access an AFP share on a Lion server using bobjones, it doesn't work, even if the server is bound to AD. You have to create the augment first, then you can access the AFP share.
What I was expecting from augments is a way to "bolt on" various attributes, which would allow me to access my Lion server with AD credentials, this is essentially what Apple say in the on-line guides. First thing I want to do is "bolt on" a Mac home folder, like we did in 10.6 server... that worked great.
Anyway sorry to hijack your thread slightly, but I seemed to have solved the disappearing augments problem by doing a clean install, but I wish to expand upon this to create proper augments which would be great when integrating your Macs into large Windows systems...

    This article: Mavericks Server Admin: Integrate with existing directory domains clearly indicates that you can "Integrate with augmented records."  I have found instructions on how to import augmented users from Active Directory into 10.6 Server, but I'm using a 10.9 Server and can't figure out how this is done.  Advice please?

    You can do that easily from workgroup manager by going to server > new augmented user records,
    if you want to add all users choose the group option and search for "domain users" this way you can add all users from specific AD group.

  • DNS - A Record Disappears while AAAA Record for Host is registered

    Hi,
    I have a strange issue.  Recently we have noticed dynamically registered IPv4 addresses disappearing from our internal Windows DNS forward lookup zones.
    I don't run our very large DNS environment, so unfortunately, I can't examine the configuration.  The problem seems to be tied to Windows servers with IPv6 enabled (windows 2008 and Windows 2008 R2 servers).
    In our Windows server configuration, we allow the check mark for "Allow this connection to be registered in DNS" to be selected in the TCP/IP settings of the production IP address for the server.
    Periodically, we have noticed that the IPv4 A records disappears from DNS while the AAAA IPv6 address for the server remains in tact. 
    I have been troubleshooting this problem from the server side (DNS client side).  It appears that if I disable 6TO4 IPv6 addresses from the server and then restart the server, the problem goes away (IPv4 address comes back in DNS after the reboot). 
    To disable IPv6 transition technologies, we implement DISABLECOMPONENTS = 1.
    Although, this work around seems to solve all of our problems, I don't understand why the IPv4 address gets removed in the first place?  I suspect a misconfiguration on the DNS server.

    Overall IPv6 Problem: By default, the 6to4 tunneling protocol is enabled in Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows Server 2008 when an interface is assigned a public IPv4 address (that is, an IPv4 address that is not in the ranges
    10.0.0.0/8, 172.16.0.0/12, or 192.168.0.0/16). 6to4 will automatically assign an IPv6 address to the 6to4 tunneling interface for each such address that is assigned, and 6to4 will dynamically register these IPv6 addresses on the assigned DNS server. If this
    behavior is not desired, we recommend disabling IPv6 tunnel interfaces on the affected hosts. In the company network, it also appears that IPv6 registration sometimes causes IPv4 A records to be removed in DNS. Microsoft has informed us that this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2782438

    new technologies like DirectAccess etc, which needs IPv6."
    Microsoft recommends that we use DisabledComponents = 1 for all Windows 2008 and Windows 2008 R2 servers that are problematic: This will disable IPv6 transition technologies and Servers will not get IPv6 address
    It has also been asked that instead of disabling IPv6 on all of our Windows servers can we just disable IPv6 on the DNS servers: Microsoft Answer: disabling IPv6 only on DNS Servers will not help, as it will not stop clients from registering their IPv6 address.
    Disabling IPv6 will impact applications that require IPv6. The known application services are: HomeGroup and DirectAccess -- we do not believe our company is currently using these technologies.

    Disappearing DNS records may point to duplicate AD zones, so the first thing to do, is let's eliminate if there are any duplicate AD zones.

  • DNS Host(A) records disappear after a while

    Hi all,
    a few weeks ago we started to change the TCP/IP configuration of our printers from "static" to DHCP with reservations. The DHCP server is configured to register forward Host(A) and reverse PTR record on DNS on behalf of (all) clients, both are W2K3 with SP2.
    This works well for all our Toshiba printers/copiers and most of our HP printers. However, on a handful of HP printers the Host(A) record in the DNS zone get lost / disappeard after some time, leading into a non working name resolution. But only the Host(A) record, the reverse PTR record is still there. Currently we have this issue with  Business InkJet 2800 attached via a JetDirect J3258G to our network.
    In the past we noticed, that on another printer the Host(A) record re-appears after some hours, only to disappear after a while again. These intervals last some hours up to one day, but seem to follow no period or schedule, like DHCP lease time, DNS scavening etc.
    I have intentionally not "listed" all the technical details in this first post. However, if you need specific details I will be happy to share them.

  • Static DNS records disappearing

    Hi all,
    Three of our static DNS entries keep disappearing and we have to keep adding them back in.  Sometimes they stay in for 1-2 weeks, sometimes only a few hours.  We have many static entries but it is always these same three that give us issues.  We
    are running four Windows 2008 (non-R2) Domain Controllers.  Two of these machines are Server Core and the other two are full versions.
    I have followed Ace's blog (thanks btw!) about looking for a duplicate zone but I don't think this is the case.  So I have turned on DNS auditing.  When the record gets deleted it logs EventID 5136 sixteen times:
    <REMOVED LOG FOR READABILITY>
    From these logs it appears that DC-SERVER3$ is what is deleting these items.  Is that a correct assumption?  DC-SERVER3 is one of the four domain controllers and is one of two running server core.
    I am unsure where to go from here.  Any help would be MUCH appreciated.  Thanks!

  • SM30 Records disappearing

    Hello all,
    We encountered an issue with a Z* table with history records. When we open the table maintenance dialog via SM30 (without any restrictions), we assume that the table is collapsed, so it should display one record per key (endda excluded from the key). However, some records are already expanded at this time.
    When we select all and expand, some records have disappeared. Certain records are simply no longer showing in the table maintenance dialog. This is a standard table maintenance dialog. There are no events programmed or anything...
    Has anyone else encountered this kind of strange behavior before? Because I can't seem to figure out why this is happening.

                               Try re-generating the table maintenance screens properly again and let us now your results.
    Make sure in the attributes / properties of the table select the correct restriction options before regenerate the screens.

  • Record disappear on the form, but not in the table

    Hi,
    I have a main form which ties to table tab1 and subform which ties to table
    tab2
    User entered a record in the main form and not completely finished and go to another form and try to setup something else. And click "Refresh All"
    When the user went back to the main form, the record is lost on the form, but the record in tab1, I think information of the subform is not entered, and maybe because it is an inner join, that's it is not shown on the form?
    Please advice how I can fix this or how we can prevent this in the future.

    I think you are right about the inner join causing the problem. Can you post the SQL of the query you are using as the main form's record source? Usually, when you have a main form/sub form setup, each form has a table (not a query) as its record source.
    If you set up the master/child links between the two it becomes an implied outer join.

  • Record disappears if two requests are activated together

    Hello
    Ods with key K is updared from ds1 and ds2 with addition mode. DS1 doesnt bring any records with key K. DS2 brings record with key K.
    The record disapear if two requests are activated together.
    The record is visible if requestes are activated separately.
    Is it a normal behavior of SAP BI?

  • PrintDataGrid: Last line per record disappears

    printing in Flex seems to be some kind of rocket science!
    Unfortunately, I haven't found any solution to this specfic
    problem:
    I have a printdatagrid with variable row height. It spans
    over multiple pages, and I'm using the documentation's code to
    print. That's all fine, however, if the text in a row contains more
    than one line, then the last line disappears in that row. This not
    only happens at the last row of a page, but in every row!
    Has anyone experienced this and found a solution for this
    problem?

    Oh, just in case somebody has the same problem: It was
    actually a lot easier to solve than I first thought.
    All you have to do is use a function that adds two newline
    characters, for example:

  • Purchase record disappears in Purchases page of App Store

    I upgraded my OS to Lion early this year and appeared in the Purchases page of App Store before.  Recently, I would like to upgrade my MBA and opened the Purchase page of App Store.  The purchase disappeared so I could not do the upgrade.  Where should I report this and get it resume on my purchase page?  Thanks!

    Once your purchases are available ..
    How to re download apps from the Mac App Store:
    Open the App Store. From the menu bar click Store > Sign In
    Click Purchases from the top of the App Store window.
    Select which apps you want to re download. Then right or control click where you see Installed  then click Install.
    Make sure and use the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.

  • Arm for record disappears

    I use to be able to begin a new multi-track session and select arm for record.
    Now, when I would open a new multi-track, the "R" was grayed out. I can add a new track to record into, but if I save and close the session to come back to later, I can no longer arm the track.
    I'm on a Mac. I've checked Audition > Preferences > Audio Hardware to make sure the microphone is selected. And still I cannot arm the track to record.
    What am I missing?

    ...and is the microphone showing up as the default input on your Windows audio control panel and, if so, is the sample rate/bit depth (on the Advanced panel of Windows audio) set to the same settings as your existing session?

  • Cycle recording

    Cycle recording on Garageband.
    I want to change a small section of the recording.
    It records the new recorded section but doesn't attach to the rest of the old recording.
    If I choose the new recorded section the rest of the original recording disappears.
    What am I doing wrong?

    This is on a Real Instrument track. It's a vocal.
    I get the impression that I'm able to re-record a section that I want to improve by putting the cycle section exactly where I want to replace, and it is replaced in the original recording.
    However I can't do it.
    What is happening is that it records the new improved version but I can't work out how to incorporate it into the original recording.
    If the new one is 2 and the original is 1.
    How do I incorporate 2 into 1?
    When I play 2 it is only the new revised section. The rest of the song I want to keep is not there.
    When I play 1 it is the old version, still with the bit I don't want and want to replace.
    Without splitting and copying and pasting..... how do I add the new improved bit to the original recording using the cycle section?

  • Best approach to delete records that are not in the source table anymore.

    I have a situation where I need to remove records from dimensions that are not in the source data anymore. Right now we are not maintaing history, i.e. not using SCD but planning for the next release. If we did that it would be easy to figure the latest records. The load is nightly and records are updated and new added.
    The approach that I am considering is to join the dimension tables the the sources on keys and delete what doesn't join. However, is there perhaps some function in OWB that would allow to do this automatically on import so it can be also in place for the future?

    Bear in mind that deleting dimension records becomes problematic if you have facts attached to them. Just because this record is no longer in the active set doesn't mean that it wasn't used historically, and so have foreign key constraints on it in your database. IF this is the case, a short-term solution would be to add an expiry_date field to the dimension and update the load to set this value when the record disappears rather than to delete it.
    And to do that, use the target dimension as a source table, outer join it to the actual source table on the natural key, and so your update will set expiry_date=nvl(expiry_date,sysdate) to set to sysdate if this record has not already been expired on all records where the outer join fails.
    Further consideration: what do you do if the record is re-inserted into the source table? create a new dimension key? Or remove the expiry date?
    But I will say that I am not a fan of deleting records in most circumstances. What do you do if you discover a calculation error and need to fix that and republish historical cubes? Without the historical data, you lose the ability to do things like that.

  • Vanishing records in deferred-write database

    Upon upgrading to 3.2.43, one of our project's unit tests revealed an issue with records disappearing 'spontaneously' from a deferred-write database (a few seconds after a reinsertion at a previous key value). I was able to boil it down to a small test case:

    }As you'll see, about 5 seconds after a record is put back at a previously-deleted key, it disappears -- as if some delayed background cleanup from the previous delete has affected the new insert.
    It only happens with deferred-write enabled, and does not happen in 3.2.23.

  • Record Streaming Video from Computer

    I need to "capture" streaming video that plays on a computer.
    I can't seperate out the file, just need to record as it plays. If
    Captivate can't do it, does anyone know of another program that
    can?

    I have had this problem with TechSmith's software as well.
    Try turning off video hardware acceleration.
    Also, make sure you don't move anything once you've begun.
    Oddly, even screen recordings made with TechSmith's Morae recording .NET 3 applicaitons can lose the content and present a black screen.
    Here's the drill:
        Record a software interaction.
        Edit and export video. (If you move the editing window, the recorded image seems to stay where it was, but becomes invisible. Sort of like sliding a cropping guide off a picture and onto a table.)
        Launch video player and play recording
        Move video player.
        Recording disappears until you put player back where it was.
    I've had similar problems with Camtasia and SnagIt.

Maybe you are looking for
