AUSOUG/OAUG 2006 Australian conference - JDeveloper content

The AUSOUG and OAUG committees are very excited to announce the 2006 conference series is less than three months away. While our American neighbours are focusing on Oracle OpenWorld in October, and our UKOUG friends on their (extended!) November conference, Australians will not miss out with the largest Oracle user group conference in Australia to date. This year we're condensing our content into two key conferences, in Melbourne and Perth, a East Coast to West Coast series of the best presentations by Australian and overseas Oracle talent.
The Melbourne and Perth schedules are now available at: http://www.ausoug.org.au/2020
In particular Australian JDeveloper users should be interested in the following presentations:
• Chris Schalk, JDeveloper Principal Product Manager at Oracle Corporation co-author of "JavaServer Faces: The Complete Reference" and Java evangelist for Oracle's Application Server and JDeveloper will be presenting exclusively in Perth on "JDeveloper 10.1.3", "Lockdown! Securing your ADF Applications" and "Developing JavaServer Faces applications with Oracle". Can anybody say AJAX? But don't worry Melbourne because Oracle has kindly agreed to fly in Lynn Munsinger from the USA, Principal Product Manager in the JDeveloper development team at Oracle, specializing in EJB, TopLink, ADF, and ADF Faces and author of Oracle University courses, including, "Oracle10g: Build J2EE Applications".
• Oracle Magazine Educator of the Year 2004 Penny Cookson, winner of best paper awards at 4 APAC OpenWorld will be presenting on "Old Forms programmers never die, they just switch to JDeveloper (a view of the ADF framework for Forms developers)"
• In turn two local members Brenden Anstey and Ray Tindall will be presenting on "ADF Development Best Practices – Starting out with a new technology" and "Active Directory Integration - OID & AD in Harmony".
That represents great support for Oracle and great JDeveloper content for developers.
There are plenty of other speakers too, so checkout out website for the latest info: http://www.ausoug.org.au/2020
We hope you will support the user group like it supports you, and we will see you at our conference in November!

I think this is a great opportunity to get face to face with my collegues in Oracle Product Management to get the inside track on the technologies and learn, not only how to use them, but where they are moving in the future...
Best of luck with the event Chris.

p.s. and of course there is a huge amount of JEE material being delivered at Oracle World as well if you can't make it to Australia.

Thierry,
I am curious to know about Fusion. I heard that Oracle Reports and Forms will not be used from R12 onwards. Is it so ?
And anything new that we need to improve ourselves against the Fusion Application ?
Any interesting new features for HRMS in Fusion ?

• Problems deploying a simple EJB on Weblogic 8.1 using JDeveloper

Hey guys,
Title says it all. First I had one problem in that I could not test the connection to the Weblogic server. I moved the weblogic.jar file into the lib/ext folder and that test worked then. After that I wrote the EJB...a very simple one...and I followed the http://dev2dev.bea.com/pub/a/2006/01/wls-jdeveloper.html?page=1 tutorial so far. But when it came time to deploy the ejb to the server, I am getting this funky error:
ERROR: ejbc found errors while processing the descriptor for C:\oracle\jdeveloper\jdev\mywork\WeblogicApp\EchoEJB\deploy\ejb1.jar:
ERROR: Error from ejbc: Error processing 'META-INF/ejb-jar.xml': XML document does not appear to contain a properly formed DOCTYPE header
Honestly I am confused now...any one encounter that error?
Thanks for all replies.
Cheers

So I added the DOCTYPE and now I get another error. And that is as follows:
ERROR: Error from ejbc: Error parsing file 'META-INF/ejb-jar.xml' at line: 5 column: 219. Attribute "xmlns:xsi" must be declared for element type "ejb-jar".
It seems that when the EJB is created, then it automatically creates the appropriate ejb-jar.xml and for some reason I guess the one it is creating this time is not good enough for Weblogic because first the DOCTYPE was missing and then after inserting the DOCTYPE I am getting the above error. Any help would be appreciated. This is the first time I am using Weblogic and this is a rather disheartening amount of progress I have made since last night! ;(
Thanks in advance for any help. If I am doing something silly please point it out so I can learn!
Cheers,
Surya

• Problem jdeveloper 10g with jboss4

how can I debug project in jdeveloper 10g with jboss4.
do enyone have some documentation, or some advise to help me.

In JBoss run batch file specify
set JAVA_OPTS= -Xdebug-Xnoagent-Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,address=8787,server=y,suspend=n
Also refer to Remote debugging with WebLogic, which is similar to JBoss.

• Elke's Intro

I am quite honored to share in the ranks of such intelligent Oracle Applications Technologists. And, I like, Debra and Floyd before me find this intro a bit embarrassing. So, anyway, here’s the part about me…..
I have worked with Oracle Technology since I started my IT career in 1993 after graduating from the University of Oklahoma (Go Sooners :-). My first job was as an Oracle Database Administrator/UNIX System Administrator and it has been a great career fit for me. In 1999, I moved to Louisville, KY and started work for Humana (Health Ins Provider), which was when my Oracle Applications career began. In 2004, my knowledge sharing and networking began with the OAUG Connection Point conference in Orlando – since then, I have started a Special Interest Group (Oracle EBIZ Applications Technology SIG). I n addition to the SIG sessions at conferences, I also present (primarily advanced Oracle EBS Infrastructure and HA infrastructure) and am fortunate enough to be asked to participate in panels (Linux Migraiton, Women in Technology, and Cloning). In 2006, I co-authored a book titled Oracle Applications DBA Field Guide (Apress). When I’m not having fun with you at conferences, I’m managing a staff of 8 DBAs for Humana supporting their Oracle Applications environment.
I enjoy teaching others and sharing knowledge about Oracle Applications and Technology. I look forward to interacting more with this group of great, talented people in the future.
Best Regards,
Elke

If you'd prefer the Leopard intro movie files as they exist on your HDD, rather than a YouTube video (.flv), copy the following text (don't include the space at the end!):
/System/Library/CoreServices/Setup Assistant.app/Contents/Resources/TransitionSection.bundle/Contents/Resources/
...then select Finder > Go menu > Go to Folder box, and paste. In the folder that opens you'll find intro.mov, which is the video, and intro-sound.mp3, which is the audio. The audio is separate from the movie because it's longer (55 seconds vs. 34 seconds). You can recombine them in iMovie, if you're so inclined.

}The questions i have are really simple.
1) I am trying to get a specific value from the xml.
for example the
after
but i want only this title not the others as well. I can all the titles but i cant get it right for returning only the first. What am i doing wrong?
2) i also want to parse the same values that are in the
for all 3 items but when i am using the
if(node.getNodeName().equals("link")){
Node fc = node.getFirstChild();
System.out.println("the link: "+ fc.getNodeValue());}i get a nullPointerException because the first link is empty under the
. If i change it to
it works fine.
The fact is that i dont know how to point it to look a specific tags like only in

I have some comments in there of the different things i tried...
Any suggestions??? Pleaseeeee.... :)
Thx in advance...

thx for the replay
1) i thought of using xpath but wanted to know how to do it over DOM
2) i mean that the 3
have other element inside like that:

Implementing Service-Oriented Architectures (SOA) with the Java EE 5 SDK

This article presents concepts and language constructs needed to develop a Service-Oriented Architecture composite application in Java EE 5. It then describes an example application designed to solve a business problem.

<date />

and all of them have
,
etc. I want to get the same values(eg.
) from all the 3
and not including the
in the begining of xml
3) i am a professional child.....joke....
try to get to your sensitive side...thats way.

• FLINT60

Has anyone heard of the FLINT60 utility and where to get details on it?
It is apparently used to convert Forms 4.5 to 6.0/6i.
Any help gladly received.
David

Hi Sandeep,
It is showing the same content of the dev115g developer guide. The Metalink note referenced above also explains the same, so do not expect to find much detail about it
Just i wanted t know , utility automatically add the apps standard objects to non apps form.It does not. This utility provides enhancements and applications coding standards verification to custom forms previously developed for Oracle Applications 10.7SC/NCA and 11.0.x releases. So, do not expect the utility to covert a standard form to Oracle Apps form.
One more thing , can you please explain in which scenarios we will make an custom schema in apps.
If there is any practical example will be appreciate.
Why we need to make custom schema for application like GL etc.Whenever you need to have your own application/module and you want to integrate it with Oracle Applications. In order to create a new schema, you have to consider the customization standards (which are explained in the Developer Guide). You cannot simply change the code of any standard module as Oracle will not support this, and instead you should create new (forms/reports/packages/tables ..etc) and integrate it with Oracle Applications.
Since you do not have a Metalink access, you can search this forum and Oracle Apps blogs and search for more details about customization. Few links are referenced below:

• Wirless Atheros Card Hack

In the news, at the Blackhat 2006 security conference, someone demonstrated that computers with the Atheros wireless card (the one that comes built-in with my MacBook) are vulnerable to being hacked. Is there any way to protect my computer from this despite disabling my wireless card whenever I'm not using my computer?

The jury is still out on this one. The "hack" shown on a blog on the Washington Post website, purportedly showed a MacBook being "exploited" through a third party wireless card. While the so called researchers claimed that the built-in card is vulnerable, they never proved this in their demo.
The demo involved using a Dell laptop as the attacking vehicle. In the video, they claimed that the target machine did not need to be 'associated' with an Access Point (AP); it only needed to be searching for a wireless AP. But they then proceeded to use the MacBook to connect (using an open Terminal shell) to the Dell (the attacking PC) as an open AP!
They then demonstrated connecting to the shell, and creating and then deleting several files, one of which was named 'password', with content of "This is a secret password!" as a "demo" of further vulnerability - an unencrypted text file! None of these activities was anything that would have required either admin or root privileges, which they never claim to have elevated the shell to, anyway.
At no time did they prove or demonstrate that they had the ability to connect to the target computer:
- without using a created shell on the target
- without creating the connection from the target
- if the target was already connected to a wireless network
- while the target's network settings were in default mode
While it is possible that there may be some vulnerability in the third party drivers, the demo gave no indication that the drivers included in the Mac OS for the built-in Airport Extreme card are open to the same issue, in spite of a spurious claim that they "may be". In fact, the demo really did not prove that the third party drivers were vulnerable at all without an existing connection being present first.
My advice to anybody that is worried is to calm down and stop listening to FUD from reporters that have no technical expertise and "researchers" that from their comments in the article, have an axe to grind about Apple and its users.
As always, understand that wireless communication is inherently insecure, simply due to physics. Take reasonable precautions, such as turning your card off when not using wireless, turning your firewall on and not opening unnecessary ports. Use strong passwords and backup your stuff to a safe location. Turn on Filevault, as it will protect your data on a mobile computer.
Above all, step back, take a deep breath, and don't believe everything you read in the newspaper.

Yes it is IBM Http Server, but it works fine from Windows accessing the same weblogic server I'm trying to connect from Solaris.
I see 500 error in the apache access log file.
I've also tried with by setting "MaxRequestsPerChild" to 0 in the apache config file but no good.
Please find below httpd.conf file content.
==============httpd.conf===============
ServerName eus0000168.eu.verio.net
# Based upon the NCSA server configuration files originally by Rob McCool.
# This is the main Apache server configuration file. It contains the
# configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
# See <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs-2.0/> for detailed information about
# the directives.
# Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
# what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure
# consult the online docs. You have been warned.
# The configuration directives are grouped into three basic sections:
# 1. Directives that control the operation of the Apache server process as a
# whole (the 'global environment').
# 2. Directives that define the parameters of the 'main' or 'default' server,
# which responds to requests that aren't handled by a virtual host.
# These directives also provide default values for the settings
# of all virtual hosts.
# 3. Settings for virtual hosts, which allow Web requests to be sent to
# different IP addresses or hostnames and have them handled by the
# same Apache server process.
# Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
# of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
# server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do not begin
# with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "logs/foo.log"
# with ServerRoot set to "/opt/IBMIHS" will be interpreted by the
# server as "/opt/IBMIHS/logs/foo.log".
### Section 1: Global Environment
# The directives in this section affect the overall operation of Apache,
# such as the number of concurrent requests it can handle or where it
# can find its configuration files.
# ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
# configuration, error, and log files are kept.
# NOTE! If you intend to place this on an NFS (or otherwise network)
# mounted filesystem then please read the LockFile documentation (available
# at <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs-2.0/mod/mpm_common.html#lockfile>);
# you will save yourself a lot of trouble.
# Do NOT add a slash at the end of the directory path.
ServerRoot "/opt/IBMIHS"
# The accept serialization lock file MUST BE STORED ON A LOCAL DISK.
#LockFile logs/accept.lock
# PidFile: The file in which the server should record its process
# identification number when it starts.
PidFile logs/httpd.pid
# Timeout: The number of seconds before receives and sends time out.
Timeout 300
# KeepAlive: Whether or not to allow persistent connections (more than
# one request per connection). Set to "Off" to deactivate.
KeepAlive On
# MaxKeepAliveRequests: The maximum number of requests to allow
# during a persistent connection. Set to 0 to allow an unlimited amount.
# We recommend you leave this number high, for maximum performance.
MaxKeepAliveRequests 100
# KeepAliveTimeout: Number of seconds to wait for the next request from the
# same client on the same connection.
KeepAliveTimeout 10
## Server-Pool Size Regulation (MPM specific)
# worker MPM
# ThreadLimit: maximum setting of ThreadsPerChild

# The directives in this section set up the values used by the 'main'
# server, which responds to any requests that aren't handled by a
# <VirtualHost> definition. These values also provide defaults for
# any <VirtualHost> containers you may define later in the file.
# All of these directives may appear inside <VirtualHost> containers,
# in which case these default settings will be overridden for the
# virtual host being defined.
# If you wish httpd to run as a different user or group, you must run

# . On HPUX you may not be able to use shared memory as nobody, and the
# suggested workaround is to create a user www and use that user.
# NOTE that some kernels refuse to setgid(Group) or semctl(IPC_SET)
