Australian CD Stuck in American iMac

An Australian CD of photographs is now stuck in my iMac. I tried to force eject it, and even though the iMac gave me the confirmation that the disc was effectively force ejected, the disc never popped out. How should I solve this problem?

How to Get a Jammed CD/DVD Out of an iMac Optical Drive:
Drag the CD icon to the Trash, reboot the Mac and hold down the mouse button, or the “Eject” button on your keyboard.
Launch Apple’s Disk Utility application, select the stuck CD and hit the “Eject” button.
Using the Terminal, enter the following command: drutil eject
If none of these solution works, there’s a good chance that there’s a hardware problem.  If you still have difficulty ejecting the disc from your iMac, the cause may be one of the following issues:
UNEVEN EDGE OF THE CD
There are two levers on a slot-loading CD/DVD drive that help center a CD/DVD disc. Some CDs and DVDs have an uneven edge which can cause enough friction to prevent the disc from ejecting.
If this happens follow these steps:
Take a large paperclip and grasp it with one hand so that about three quarters of an inch, or 18 millimeters, extends beyond your fingers. Insert the paperclip into the CD/DVD slot about 1.5 inches, or 36 millimeters, from the left edge of the slot. See below.
CD/DVD Slot
With the other hand, drag the disc icon on the desktop to the Trash to force the computer to eject the disc. When you hear the disc attempt to eject, slide the paperclip to the left edge of the slot and then remove the paperclip. You should feel a little resistance from the spring loaded centering lever. See below.
Paperclip Inserted into the Slot
Once the disc has been successfully ejected, wipe the outside edge of the CD/DVD with your hands. Cleaning the edge of the disc in this way will reduce the likelihood of the disc becoming stuck again.
BOTTOM COVER MISALIGNED
If the bottom plastic cover is misaligned it will prevent a CD or DVD from ejecting properly. You can usually tell whether the bottom cover is misaligned because the slot is distorted. If the top of the CD/DVD slot appears to be bowed downward then the bottom cover is probably misaligned. Contact your local Authorized Service Provider to correct the misaligned plastic cover.

    Hi Minchroadster
Open Disk Utility and select the DVD's image in the left column, then go up and hit the blue eject button. If for some unknown reason the DVD's image is not shown in Disk Utility, restart your Mac holding the mouse button to eject the DVD.

  • Is it possible to retrieve a CD which is physically stuck in an iMac without dismantling the iMac?

Is it possible to retrieve a CD which is physically stuck in an iMac without dismantling the iMac?

    Hello there,
The only way i can think is to press the button to eject, then normally what i do is push a thin card just over the top of the disc, and try get it out by pushing slightly down on the card to pull the disc out, otherwise you can try to hang the imac upside down where the disc will fall out, and give it a few shakes downwards to where the disc might slide out etc.
Here is other sources to fixes of stuck discs below.
    http://computers.tutsplus.com/tutorials/quick-tip-how-to-force-eject-a-stuck-dis c--mac-31662
A persons reply to his fix with imac "Wuce Brillis • 2 years ago A while ago i got a physically stuck disc in my iMac, after all the above methods it was still stuck. Eventually, after a lot of searching on the web, I got it out fairly easy with a business card which I slid in the tray. Maybe this will help someone"
the last thing you can do is end up opening up the imac and void warrenty, if you have apple care, use that and ask at a local apple store to see if they can get the disc out etc.

  • Mini disc stuck in my imac

How do I remove a mini disc that is stuck in my new intel imac? the eject button is useless. <Edited by Moderator>
    Thanks
    Steve

    Hi Steve
You could turn it on it's side and hope that it falls out, but you'll probably have to take the iMac to your local Apple Service Provider or Apple Store and have them extract the disc from it.
Have a look at your Intel iMac User's Guide:
*Chapter 2 page 21 say's:* +It can write music, documents, and other files to standard-size CD-R,+
    +CD-RW, DVD±R, DVD±RW, and DVD±R Double Layer (DL) discs.+
    and *Chapter 4 page 50 say's:* +Use only a _standard size_ disc.+

  • Cd stuck in drive, iMac doesn't even realise disc is there

I have a CD stuck in the drive of my 27" iMac (iMac10,1). Eject button does nothing, there's no disc icon on the desktop. I even tried opening the 'Disk Utility.app' and when I right-click on the CD/DVD drive and bring up the information window it says (amongst other things):
    Media is present :   No
I'm stumped, not sure what to do.
    Thanks for any help.

    check out Kappy's user tip:
Five ways to eject a stuck CD or DVD from the optical drive
Ejecting the stuck disc can usually be done in one of the following ways:
    1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the left mouse button until the disc ejects.
    2. Press the Eject button on your keyboard.
    3. Click on the Eject button in the menubar.
    4. Press COMMAND-E.
    5. If none of the above work try this:
Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following: /usr/bin/drutil eject.
If this fails then try this:
Boot the computer into single-user mode. At the prompt enter the same command as used above.
To restart the computer enter "reboot" at the prompt without quotes.

  • Disc Stuck in Intel iMac... STILL After Trying Literally EVERYTHING!

It's been almost a month now and I still have a standard CD-R stuck in my disk drive. While my iMac is still useable, the disk drive cycles and taunts me every 4-5 seconds as it attempts to once again eject the disk. The battle has been fierce and I have literally tried EVERYTHING mentioned online up to the current day (5/16/2009). Here are couple key-points worth noting:
    • When the computer boots up and I first log in, the disk actually shows up on the desktop as well as in iTunes. One quick tap on the eject button (or any other standard disk eject method) and the drama begins again as the disk drive comes to life and begins its relentless, endless cycle of ejection attempts.
    • I have tried the plastic/laminated card method, the hold down the mouse-button and reboot method, the various key-combination methods, the terminal methods, the tipping the monitor methods, the trying to insert a second disk methods, the tweeze methods, the press the case together methods, the double-stick tape methods, and even the lay hands on it and pray method... ALL with no avail!
So, now what's left? Taking my iMac in to a professional Apple technician is not an option as I am past the warranty period and am literally broke financially!

    Hey Jaber,
I've had the same issue with mine as well, and tried all the suggestions to no avail.
I think it's a Drive issue , because I've read several other post in reference to this.
I could not eject mine, even though I could see the icon, and click eject it, however, it would try to eject the CD but would not come out. The drive was running al the time in sleep mode. I finally got the CD out, but you are going to have to use some tools to do it and take it apart somewhat. This is at the point where you decide to find a replacement Drive and install it yourself, (some what skilled labor involved) or do what I did, which was to to pull the 4 screws off the bottom of the imac, slide the Bezel off slightly so you can now actually see the side of the drive. In my case, there was a small metal latch (to hold the CD in while it spins?) in the middle of the drive preventing the CD from ejecting. Once I took a small screwdriver and pressed this latch back, I was able to take a pair of tweezers and pull out my CD. At this point I closed everything up, and put a piece of scotch tape across the drive slot, (so no one would accidently stick another CD in) and purchased a $69 external F/W drive. My take was this..., it was more cost & time effective to purchase a external CD/DVD drive (plug & Play) as opposed to time and effort putting in a new drive in the iMac.
    Hope this helps.

  • 2 cd's stuck in intel iMac.. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thats what my friend in Australia said to me (I am in New Zealand so 4 hours on a plane away! so cant go look)
Itunes was copying a cd and was about to burn it evidently and asked her to insert a blank disk so she stuck it gently in the slot and it sucked it in!!! now she thinks there are 2 cd disks in there ! there are 2 CD images on the desktop 1 for the music cd and 1 for the blank disk
This is what she recons happened though I cannot see how anyone could even with a great deal of force put 2 cd's in a slot drive at once !! and she used no force the drive grabbed it and sucked it in but now there seems no way to eject it/them
I am assuming there is one disk in there and suggested the eject button and dragging and reboot hold mouse idea and none of that works . The drive makes a few noises but nothing comes out
So whats the story with intel iMacs.. is there no physical way like paper clips or others to eject it/.. I also heard you could boot to open firmware and type in something to eject it that way but it doesnt seem to respond to the commands to start in open firmware.. maybe intel Imacs dont have open firmware ?
is there some command line way at boot up to do this ?
    or some other way ?
Yes she is blonde but i cant believe this is her fault..

    Yes thanks
    it was only 1 cd
I thoguht she may have been confused with the 2 icons
evidently it was a Karaoke CD and it comes up as 2 disks
    1 audio content
    1 video content
I am glad no one can force 2 cd's in their iMac
thanks a bunch she was killer herself laughing

  • System Spell Checker 'stuck' on American English

    Hi,
    Running OS X 10.8.3.
I have my language settings set to Australian English. How ever, when typing in system applications such as Mail, or Notes, the OS X System Spell checker is spell checking based on American English.
    For example;
when typing an email, it picks up the word "colour" as being spelt incorrectly (with the squiggly red line under the word).
    Amerian English = Color
    Australian English = Colour
Please see attached pics where i have Australian English set.
    Trouble Shooting I have tried;
    • verifying & repairing priveliges
    • resetting P-RAM
    • change language to American English, restarting, setting to Australian English, restarting
Spoke to AppleCare, they basically ended up telling me to re-install the OS.
Any input or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Getting an American iMac in Taiwan

Hi there. I'm an American. Like most Americans, I speak English, and I speak very little, if any Mandarin.
I'm a Ph.D. student, and I'm trying to buy an English-language iMac with a student discount.
    There are two slight problems.
    1) I'm in Taiwan, and my name is Yi, so everyone assumes that I speak fluent Mandarin. I can barely navigate the Taiwan Apple web store, much less figure out how to request English.
    2) I had been basing my budget plans on the US prices. In Taiwan, iMacs seem to be several hundred US dollars more expensive!
Possibility A: I get the USA Apple Store to recognize that I'm a real student, even though my university is in Taiwan, and they airmail me to iMac at US prices.
Possibility B: I get the Taiwan Apple Store to recognize my university (the easy part), get them to install an English OS X, and pay several hundred US dollars more for an equivalent product.
Are there other possibilities? Can anyone recommend the best way to navigate the customer service structure?
    Thanks in advance,
    Yi Fu Xi

I think I understand your problem!
I believe I would contact the Apple store via E-mail and explain your issue and see if they will work with you at getting the computer at the best possible price. I do not know the electric infrastructure in Taiwan, so be sure - if you get a computer from the USA - that it meets the local requirements.
Your other option seems to be viable as well (the local Apple store). With the dollar so weak internationally, I am surprised that you would not be able to actually do better in Taiwan.

    what else do change/check?

What reports are these for? I.e Deski/ Webi/ Crystal. Also, what version of BOE XI 3.x are you using ? What SP/FP level are you on?
I am able to change the change the date format to Australian by setting the Preferred Viewing Local to 'English (Australia)' . If you're in Australia, using the browser locale should work.
Note: I tested with Webi reports.

  • My cursor is stuck on new Imac

I am using an Imac, and i turned it on this morning, and my cursor is stuck... i move it, and it jumps back to the original spot. so i can't turn on applications... or work for that matter.
Does anyone have a solution? i have unplugged and plugged... i have restarted w/force quit...

Try another mouse, another USB port for the same mouse - any mouse will work. If wireless use a wired mouse. Narrow down the mouse vs. software this way.

  • One other cd stuck in the Imac

    Hi everybody,
I have a cd stuck in the computer (iSight IMAc G5).
i tried to open the firmware and every solution posted here.
I can hear the Cd moving to eject, but it went back each time.
It seems to me that something is obstructing the output.
    Could somebody help meeee ?

    To Apple Discussions!
"i tried to open the firmware and every solution posted here."
If that's the case & you also tried the following:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106752 Macintosh: How to Eject a Disc When Other Options Do Not Work
Then you already know you have no other alternative but to take your computer to your nearest AASP. Hopefully, your computer is still under its one year warranty and/or you have AppleCare.
    Good luck!

  • Tip of headphone plug stuck in my iMac headphone jack...PLEASE HELP

Stupid of me...I was there listening to music on my imac then decided to get a drink of water, forgetting the headphones was on my ears I got up...Then all of a sudden i heard some kind of snap then I saw the tip of my headphone plug was stuck in my headphone jack. I can still hear the music from my internal speakers but cant use any headphones or external speakers PLEASE HELP IN GETTING THIS OUT OF THE HEADPHONE JACK as soon as possible...
    Thanks

You have confused me, because you are posting in the iMac G5 PPC area, and you have an intel. I think that opening the case is quite difficult, you have to take the front of the bezel off, and the screen is taped down and is not easy to remove without damaging it. You probably will have to pack it up and send it to the nearest Apple repair center to be fixed.
    Sorry,
