Authentication is required to set the network proxy used for downloading packages

hello all,
we bought a Sun X3-2 and our reseller installed OL6.5 and SRS 5.4.2. When user logs in, a window occurs regularly, displaying this message.
Authentication is required to set the network proxy used for downloading packages
After click on Cancel, the window re-appears then minutes after. It seems that it is related to polkit:
/usr/libexec/polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1
Can i stop this service? Are there any hints to tune Oracle Linux when using sunrays? users don't need to update packages because the server is managed.
thanks in advance for help,
gerard

i'm not fully agree with you, this problem arises because i'm using sunray. But you're right, i found the solution when searching on the net, not in oracle forums.
The solution is to create
.config/autostart/*.desktop
with:
X-GNOME-Autostart-enabled=false
it seems ok, even if i have other problems, for instance, firefox and thunderbird crashing regularly, even if i'm up to date with packages (uln too).
In the past, i used to use sunrays with solaris 10, it existed a document to tune gnome when using sunrays, i don't find the same thing with oracle linux.
thanks for your reply,
gerard

  • How to set the Certifcate to use for SSL when more than one available?

I apologise for bad wording of question.
We have a 11g Directory Server and when we created the directory instance it generated a self-signed certificate. very nice.
We have recently requested and installed a CA signed certifcate, so we now have TWO certificates in the directory certificate store. Default Certificate and the new Server-Cert (the CA signed one)
LDAP clients STILL seem to be presented with the self-sgned certificate though.
Simple question... how do I make my Server-Cert the 'default' certificate presented to LDAP clients ???
I would rather not delete the self-signed cert if possible.
I cant find any documented method to achieve this.

    # Listing Certificate
    $ /certutil -L -d <path>/slapd-abc/alias -P slapd-
    # Add Trust by adding CT
    $ certutil -M -n "GeoTrust DV SSL CA" -t CT,, -d <path>/slapd-abc/alias -P slapd-
    # Verify the setup.

On start-up, Firefox always tries to connect to a proxy even if I set the "network settings" to "no proxy". I have to manually go to "network settings" and set it to "no proxy" every time I start Firefox.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in <u>[[Safe mode]]</u>:

Step by Step to fix your Mac

  • Safari of my Macbook (on WiFi) suddenly fails to connect to the Internet.  A popup window message says another device on the network is using my computer's IP address.

But then there was still no Internet access even after I have disconnected all other home computers (a total of four including the Macbook and one iMac desktop.  For simplicity, I shall categorically called them Mac hereafter unless otherwise specified.  The Macs are operating on WiFi.).
The window message recommends changing the IP of either the Macs or the other device.  The latter of course does not apply because I don't think the other device is one of my computers.
    My questions:
    (1) Why did that happen suddenly since the Mac and other computers on the WiFi was working fine in the morning (as well as days before) and then all of a sudden an unknown device is using my computer's IP?  As far as I (we) can remember, we did not do any thing unusual this morning nor had we downloaded any special programs.
    (2) How do I change the IP since it requires Internet acess to do it and since I can't access the Internet on the Mac?
    (3) I am almost sure the problem is not caused by the Internet service because when I connected the Ethernet cable from the DSL modem to an old Windows PC, I got Internet via Internet Explorer.  [I am actually sending out this message via IE on my PC.]  However, when I cennected the Ethernet line from the modem to a WiFi router (Airport Extreme) and then connect the router and the old PC, I did not get Internet on either the Mac nor the PC.  Similarly, there was no Internet on both Mac and PC If I connect Ethernet only between the modem and the router but not between PC and router.  So, the question is whether a third unknown party has gotten hold of my Mac IP address and is trying to break into the Mac?  Can it steal my personal info?
    (4)  How can I repair the Mac now and prevent future recurrences?  Is changing the IP address the way to do it?  (But like I said before I had tried but could not change the IP because I did not have Internet access on the Mac.  Is there an alternative method?)
    (5) I wonder if a computer's IP address remains constant if you don't change it.  The reason I am asking this question is because the aforesaid window message on the Macbook--not sure about the iMac--shows a different IP address--a few numerical digits were changed--almost every time it pops up following every failure trial of mine to access the Internet.  Was the Macbook trying to change the IP for me or was there some thing not right?

Re: Another device on the network is using your computer's IP address.
This message/problem was occuring intermittently for me in a household with two MacBooks accessing one Airport extreme.  Rebooting the modem and router would only temporarily fix the issue for me, so I spoke with a friend who works for Apple and it seems that the Airport Extreme settings were at the root of our particular issue.
The router(Airport Extreme) recieves only one IP address from the modem and in order to allow it to share the IP address with two computers at once, the solution in my case was through:
    Applications>Utilities>Airport Utility>Manual Setup>Internet
under Internet Connection- Select "share a public IP address"
under NAT, check the box for "enable NAT Port Mapping Protocol"
(this will allow the sharing of one public IP address with multiple devices)
if this is a new setting, then click "Update" and the Airport Extreme should reboot itself with new settings applied.
When all else is working properly, this is a satisfactory solution in my case.

  • Setting the number of consumers for a topic

    Hi,
I have a topic connection factory from which I can creating 2 topic connections and setting different clientids for each connection to one topic. But I get a error com.sun.messaging.jms.ResourceAllocationException: [C4073]: A JMS destination limit was reached. Too many Subscribers/Receivers for Topic : usmTopic user=guest, broker=localhost:7676(4227).Is there a limit on the number of subscribers I can have for a topic?..I could not find any configuration for this?..Or can I have only 1 connection to a topic?
Not sure I understand what is happening?
    Thanks
    Reshma

Yes, using multiple connections is more resource consuming. And from the description below, it looks like it wouldn't help. A small info first. The Client ID in topics is used to keep the messages for the consumers when they are disconnected (hence durable subscribers). For this, if consumers were to be able to share the same clientid, the broker wouldn't know which consumer has consumed the messages and which has not. So for this, each consumer has to have a distinct client id. Usually, I provided the client id programmatically, but because of your problem, I saw that there is another solution. Read on...
From the 3.6 admin guide (must still apply with 4.1):
If multiple clients obtain connections from the same connection factory object, set ClientID for a connection factory. Message Queue can then provide a unique ClientID for each connection obtained from that factory.
So, this is what you have done. Here is the rest of the instructions....
+To ensure a unique ClientID value, set the imqConfiguredClientID attribute using the following format: imqConfiguredClientID=$string. The ${u} must be the first four characters of the attribute value. If anything other than u is encountered, a JMS exception occurs upon connection creation.+
Sounds like what you are seeing no?
+The value for string is any value that you want to associate with a connection produced by this connection factory, such as Xconn. During the user authentication stage, Message Queue substitutes u:userName for u. For example, if the user associated with the connection is Athena and the string specified for the connection is ${u}Xconn, the ClientID will be u:AthenaXconn. This scheme ensures that each connection produced by a connection factory, although identical in every other way, will contain a unique ClientID.+
The following may also apply to you, based on the exception you provided...
+There is one case in which this scheme will not work: If two clients obtain a connection using a default user name such as guest, each will have a ClientID with the same ${u} component. At runtime, the first client to request the connection will get it; the second will not because MQ cannot create a connection with a non-unique ClientID.+
    So from this:
    1. Use the {u} in your connection id.
    2. Use different users than the default. Unless you are using an external ldap provider, you probably need to use iqmusermgr. This will be in the bin directory of the Sun MQ installation.

  • How do I resolve, "Another device on the network is using your computer's IP address?"

Another device on the network is using my computer's IP address

This error message can be seen under several different circumstances. I've seen it after rebooting my router or after an unintended reboot of my computer (like a force quit). If your devices are still able to access the Internet, ignore it. If one of them can't access the Internet then there's an issue with your network that requires resolving.

  • I have lost the correct proxy settings for the ethernet connection using Safari.  How do I get back to the original ethernet proxy settings?

I changed the ethernet proxy settings for Safari on my Mac Pro, when I was in a particular place that required extra security.  Now I cannot get the ethernet connection to work when back home.  The wireless connection works fine.  What are the original ethernet proxy settings.  How do I make the changes?
    Thanks

From your Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Advanced tab. Click Change Settings next to Proxies. Select Automatically from the Configure pop up menu.
You may also have to select the Proxies tab. If any of the boxes are selected, deselect then click OK.

  • Another device on the network is using your IP address.

We have several iOS and OSX devices, plus one Windows one, regularly utilizing our home wireless network, based in a Time Capsule.  Occasionally -- like every few months -- we find this error message on one of our computers:  Another device on the network is using your IP address.  Often just waiting and trying again seems to solve this problem, but I wonder if we should be doing something differently.  Some of our devices do remain on, in sleep mode, overnight, and we do sometimes shut down the Time Capsule (only when all devices are off or asleep) at night.  Otherwise I think we are pretty normal users.
Please share any insights you can!
Note:  I have found this article, which suggests this might be a problem which could be solved by Apple, but it is over 2 years old:  http://osxdaily.com/2010/09/19/another-device-on-the-network-is-using-your-compu ters-ip-address/

Yes.. it is all done in the airport utility.
DHCP lease time by default you can see is one day.. simply change that to 20min..
Fixed ip is via the DHCP reservations.. click the + and connect an IP to MAC address or name ?? of the client.. sorry my TC is offline.. I will get back shortly.
There is no disadvantage as long as the device is setup via the TC.. if you use static IP setting on the device that can often cause issues with the TC forgetting how to reach it. So if possible fix ip via the TC.

  • Airport Express: error code another device on the network is using your computer's IP address

I have set up the airport express now I get an error reading 'another device on the network is using your computer’s IP address 192.168.1.64. ' and I am unable to access the internet. Any suggestions?

The modem is fine, it's just not designed to work with a router without some re-configuration.
Connect the modem directly to your computer using an Ethernet cable
Pull up your browser and enter 192.168.1.254 into the address bar and press enter. That should pull up the modem configuration pages
Look for an Advanced tab on the left. You may need to enter the modem access code when you do this. It is on the bottom of the modem
    Click the PPP Location Tab
Change this setting to "PPP is on the computer (or router)..... or, if you do not see this setting, there should be a setting for Bridge Mode.
Make your selection and click Save or similar and modem will restart with the new settings
Important....if you need to get back to the original modem settings again, you will need to first hold the reset button in on the back of the modem for 10 seconds, then let it restart. That will get it back to original factory settings if you need to get back to those settings.
With the AirPort Express powered up, hold in the reset button on the device for 10-12 seccnds and then release the reset button. Allow 40-45 seconds for the Express to restart at which time it will slowly blink amber
Connect the Ethernet cable from the modem to the AirPort Express
Make sure you are logged onto the wireless signal for the AirPort Express. It provides a temporary network with a name like Apple Network xxxxxx. Log on to that network. There is no password.
Open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup
Click the Base Station tab/label located just under the row of icons to assign a name to the Express, a device password (write that down) and adjust Time Zone settings
Click the Wireless tab next to the Base Station tab
Wireless Mode = Create a wireless network
Wireless Network Name = Your choice
Check mark next to Allow network to be extended
    Radio Mode = 802.11n 802.11b/g compatible
    Channel = Automatic
    Security = WPA2 Personal
    Password = Your choice
    Confirm Password
    Click the Internet icon
    Connect Using = PPPoE
User Name = probably your email address with your provider
Password = password with your provider
    Verify Password
    Service Name....Leave this completely blank
    Connection = Always On
    Disconnect if Idle = Never
Click Update at the lower right and allow 40-45 seconds to restart. You may see a message about "setup over WAN".  Click to ignore.
As soon as you see the message in AirPort Utility that the settings have been stored...Close AirPort Utility.
Wait for a green light on the AirPort Express and then click the fan shaped AirPort icon at the top of the computer screen to look for the new network that you just named. Log on and enter the password.
You should have an Internet connection.
If not, power everything down. Start the modem first, then the Express, then your computers

  • HT201184 What does this mean? How do I fix it?  "Another device on the Network is using your computer IP address (then it gives current IP address)"

"Another device on the Network is using your computer IP address" is plaguing me.  What can I do to correct this?  It seems to come on after it has been inactive for some time.

    Hi Delores,
What Encrytion does your Router/Modem use?
This might mean your Mac is set to a Static/Manual IP instead of using DHCP to request an IP, or another device is starting up with a Static IP & kicking your Mac off the Router.
If this is Wifi/Airport with little or no encryption,it could be somebody outside causing it.
How many things are connecting there?

"Another device on the network is using your computer's IP address (10.0.1.198)."
Does anyone have any suggestions as to why I have begun to get this message?
That's an odd address for such a conflict. IP addresses are normally allocated from the low end of the range, so a value such as 10.0.1.3 would be more likely.
I believe the IP addresses for the network are allocated by the AEBS. Is this correct?
In general, yes. Is your computer configured to obtain its IP address via DHCP or is it declared statically?
You might try this: Launch AirPort Utility, enter "manual setup" mode for your AirPort unit, select the "Advanced" pane, then click on the "Logs and Statistics" button. In the resulting window select the "DHCP Clients" tab. If the offending computer is using DHCP, you should see it there. If it's only identified by MAC address, you'll have to do a little research to determine which device has that MAC address.
In which case, that would make sense, as my AEBS is acting oddly at the moment. It crashes and requires regular restarting - I've posted regarding this, but no suggestions so far.
Could the two issues be related?
    I'm not sure.

    Hi Experts,
How can i set the same general settings for all users e.g. marking the checkbox "Display header" to true for all users? General settings are possible under User Settings Button.

    Hi Arti!
You can default user settings in a PFCG role, in the "personalization" tab.
If you have a PFCG role that is common to all your users, you can set the default values here.
However it does not prevent them to change these settings later, except if you modify the "user settings" fields properties in cProjects application.
