Authentication Password Failure Step ?!
After updating to OSX Lion 10.7.2, I started "reparing disk permissions"... now it showing me this!
Repairing permissions for “SSD”
Permissions differ on “System/Library/CoreServices/NetworkDiagnostics.app/Contents/Resources/Diagnost ics.bundle/Contents/Resources/pl.lproj/AuthenticationPasswordFailureStep.nib”; should be -rw-r--r-- ; they are --w-r--r-- .
Repaired “System/Library/CoreServices/NetworkDiagnostics.app/Contents/Resources/Diagnost ics.bundle/Contents/Resources/pl.lproj/AuthenticationPasswordFailureStep.nib”
Permissions repair complete
What's AuthenticationPasswordFailureStep? What should I do?

Resetting authentication password
My authentication password does not work for some reason. So I searched on here and found directions to put in the installation disk, hold down "c" and restart the computer. Then select "reset password" from the installer menu. Well the "reset password" was grayed out. That didn't work. Then I read somewhere to disable the open firmware before doing all of the above. I have no idea how to disable the open firmware, where it even is, or what it even is.
Please help!*Well the "reset password" was grayed out.*
Features of Open Firmware Password Protection
Blocks the ability to use the "C" key to start up from an optical disc.
Since I understand that you were able to boot from the install cd/dvd, it would seem that you do not have a firmware password. There must be some other problem.
Here are some other ways of changing the password.
Changing password from single user mode:
You can also change the administrator's password from single user mode. These steps are more complicated.
You need to get into single use mode for steps one and two.
This page will tell you how to get into single user mode.
http://www.securemac.com/macosxsingleuser.php
Basically, you hold down the command-s key when powering on. The command key has a little apple symbol on the lower left. It is between the alt/option key and the space bar. On a PC keyboard, it will be the windows key, I think.
1) Get the Mac to set up a new administrative account. You can then change the password on your old account.

OK, restart your computer, hold down Command-s and type in the following:
/sbin/fsck -y [Enter]
/sbin/mount -uaw [Enter]
rm /var/db/.applesetupdone [Enter]
reboot [Enter]
Once you've done that the computer reboots and ask you to set up an admin password. From there you just change all other account passwords in the account preferences!!

You will need to scoll down to see this post. Search for applesetupdone
Once you have a new administrative account, you can change the password of your old administrative account
blue apple > System Preferences > Accounts
2) You can change the password on an account. ( Do you know Unix. You are in a Unix single user console. )
To find out the users on the system type:
ls /Users
Pick one of the users and type passwd a-user-name and enter the new user password. You need six characters. One of these account will be the administrator.
The root account isn't enabled by default. I am not sure if changing the password on root will enable it.
How to crack Mac OS X password
I recommend changing your password, but with a lot of computer work you can find out your current password.

.Mac multiple accounts password failures?
I have been looking for help on a password trouble I experienced starting Wednesday night.
I have a new .Mac account for my university teaching in addition to my personal .Mac account. Following methods in this forum, I have been using iWebSites to manage multiple sites on both .Mac accounts, using the .Mac Preference Panel trick, switching from one account to another when needed.
After I used Backup Wednesday evening of all my iWeb sites to my personal .Mac account, I cannot switch back to my university .Mac account.
It is password failure.
In addition, when I bought the new account last week, I deliberately entered a false day and month of birth. I usually just use Jan. 1 for that kind of thing, but not always. The password help for .Mac accounts requires either access to the email account in question OR a "secret question" and answer, which I know, but only if you authenicate the day and month of birth in the account. I cannot remember the phony day and month I entered last week!
So I am slightly hosed.
I have tried most of the tactics in the earlier thread,
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=949682&tstart=0
but to no avail.
Also, I have a trouble report through the .Mac support site, but have not talked directly to a human being about it.
Advice welcome.I used an alternate route to
(a) speak to a person at Apple
(b) about .Mac account re-set.
I went through the customer service branch on the 800 MY APPLE line, and then selected help with a previous purchase. This got me to a person. Then I used my invoice info to autheticate my request, and they pushed my help request over to the .Mac Help Guy through their internal network. Bingo.
One of the other Apple phone line people said that the .Mac Help Guy really is one guy running four computers! I do not want to believe that but who knows! -
I was recently given a previously used G4 from a family member that cant remember the authentication password and is having a hard time finding the original install disk. I have the new 10.5 cd and still need a password to download it. Until then I can't use my printer etc...Can you help?
I'm thinking that if the 10.5 Installer DVD doesn't work for you to reset the administrator password, you'll probably have to get ahold of a 10.3 installer DVD in order to reset it. Short of that, you may have to take it into an Apple Store or someplace that works on Macs and have them do it for you.
Did you try this procedure, taken from (10.4.x's) Finder Help using "reset admin password" as search terms, using the 10.5 installer DVD?
If you don't remember the password and automatic login is turned off, you can reset the administrator password using the Mac OS X User Install disc. To reset the administrator password using the Mac OS X disc:
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc and restart the computer.
2. When you hear the startup tone, hold down the "C" key until you see the spinning gear.
3. When the Installer appears, choose Utilities > Reset Password.
4. Follow the onscreen instructions to change the password.
5. Quit the Installer and restart your computer while holding down the mouse button to eject the disc.
BTW, is the G4 clock speed greater than 800 MHz? I'm just asking because I thought I heard that Leopard won't run on 800-MHz and slower machines.
PS - this probably wasn't the most appropriate forum for you to post in; so if what I say here doesn't work out for you and nobody else here posts a workable solution for you, try posting your question in this other forum instead. -

Hi, Use the below code to reset 42728298 Or generate one from the below link http://bios-pw.org/ 1. Use the unlock code you generated to enter the BIOS
2. Disable all passwords that are enabled in the BIOS's security menu.
3. If asked for current password - type the unlock code
4. For new password, just press ENTER key
5. Repeat the same for verify password column. -
Authentication password disabled
On both iPad and iPhone authentication password disabled each time I try to configure email settings.

*******************************************************************************Thanks for your response. I read the documents that you recommended. This looks like the same issue described in bug 6650342 which was fixed in v. 2.08 when 10g iAS was still being used. Could the same thing be happening with EPG? The MW account got locked after I retried the operation multiple times. The runtime details shows '$EOF_COMMON/buildftp.sh' as the script being run.
Here is the error message that I received:

Excessive Client Authentication/Association Failure's. What is going on!?
Hello Community,
Once again I am reaching out to you for help. I am hoping someone can help me. I have been noticing in my trap logs that there are an excessive amount of Client Association/Authentication Failures. I cannot figure out why. I have a Cisco 5508 WLC with 81 AP's (1131ag, 1142abgn, 1262N) models. The wireless devices are on a Windows Domain and use 802.1x EAP authentication, authenticating the user and computer info with a RADIUS Server. I look at the logs and all it can tell me is Reason:Unspecified ReasonCode:1. I read that the Reason Code is due to "Client associated but no longer authorized" but to be honest I am not sure what that means. It could mean many things, unfortunately it is too ambiguous to make heads or tails of. Can someone point me in the right direction? Things I can check? I posted below some of the Trap Logs, they go on and on like that. Thank you for any help you can provide.

I would love to run a debug on a problem client but the problem is that I have no way to tell where the client is or who the device belongs to. I can see what AP is refusing the connection by plugging in the base radio MAC, but also no way of telling what SSID they are trying to connect to either. I am assuming these clients are attemting to connect to the network but are failing, but do not know why. As far as the clients go, again no way to tell. We run laptops as well as iPads (I work at a private K-12 College Prep school) and any other wireless device they may be trying to connect to the network. The laptops run Windows 7 Pro and the WZC supplicant handles the WLAN adapter.
My concern is the inordinant amount of failures to connect. is someone trying to hack my network? Here is the output of the wlan (smesw) that I suspect it may be happening on as this is the only wlan that uses 802.1x authentication. All others require a password and are mac filtered.

Can you have multiple signon password failure limits on a same E-Bussiness?
Hi gentlemen,
I'm not the DBA of the company that I work for, but what I'm having is a problem that he's not helping me to solve. Another thing, I'm workin in an Oracle 12i E-Bussiness Suite.
The thing is that the users of multiple plants of a same holding are entering entering their information thru the same site of the Oracle E-Business Suite, because of the configuration of this site the profiles of the users have a SIGNON_PASSWORD_FAILURE_LIMIT of 5. This limit is fine with us if we are speaking of management users, but when we speak of users that work on the plant and are reporting to the ERP is another thing, they must be connected constantly to the Database.
The problem is that by the decision of the DBA and the Headquarters plenty of the operators that work on a same shift and equal machines share the same user/password on the system, therefore if any of them failes at least five times the password all of the other operators get locked to. This is becoming annoying for us in the plant because we are loosing time, information and efficiency. The fact is that most of the operators don't have full knowledge of the way a computer works, so we can't force on to them a politic of a maximum number of failures, we are trainning them and trying to change their culture but this is not a that comes around in the short term.
The other problem it's that putting the SIGNON_PASSWORD_FAILURE_LIMIT to 0 or unlimited is a high security risk and it would apply to all the users of the site.
So my question goes to the following: Is there a way in an E-Bussiness Site to have some users having a limit and others that don't? Can I create two sign on profiles, one with a limit of 5 and the other with a limit of 0, and I just assign some of the users to the first and some to the later? How would I do that? or is it true (as the DBA says) that since I'm working on a Site then I just have to work with one limit for all and I can't do any variations because it always will prevail the SIGNON_PASSWORD_FAILURE_LIMIT and I just can declare one for the hole site? Can I declare a SIGNON_PASSWORD_FAILURE_LIMIT of 0 but thru other privilege, responsability or user specification can I limit the number of failures for a group of users? Is the solution the creation of individual or specific users for each operator, so if one of them failes then the others could work without a problem?
I'd really appreciate your help.
Thanks,
CésarYou can run multiple instances of IDM with out a problem. Just point them at the same repository and resources etc.. You also have the ability to restrict certain types of processing to specific servers if you need to as well.

Keeps asking for password at step 8
Hi,
I just bought a Linksys WRT54G wireless router and am having some trouble getting it setup. I have gone through the setup disc until step 8 where it just keeps asking me for a password. I have tried using the default password, but it still just brings me back to step 8, it then says checking computer settings and gets to 99% and then seems to stop for a few seconds. Then that small screen goes away and I'm stuck back at step 8. I have tried resetting the router and the computer, but has not changed anything. I hope I explained this atleast somewhat clearly.
Thanks in advance for any help,Don't know if this will help others, but I pressed the reset button and held it for 30 seconds...Then updated the firmware. All works fine now, but still having fits with the WII wireless connection

Is there away to stop the port from reauthenticating when a device fails to open. I am trying to set up low-impact mode on a wired network. And I have some WYSE terminals that I don't want to authenticate to the network so I would like them to fail open with an ACL limiting their access. However the switch continues to try and authenticate the device even after it has failed authentication. This is causing my logs on ISE to be full of bogus authentication failures. Is there a way to limit thoses errors or the the switchport from trying to reauthenticate? Below is the switchport config.
switchport access vlan 33
switchport mode access
switchport voice vlan 233
ip access-group ACL-DEFAULT in
authentication event fail retry 1 action next-method
authentication event server dead action authorize vlan 33
authentication event server alive action reinitialize
authentication host-mode multi-auth
authentication open
authentication order dot1x mab
authentication priority dot1x mab
authentication port-control auto
authentication timer reauthenticate server
authentication violation restrict
mab
dot1x pae authenticator
dot1x timeout tx-period 10
spanning-tree portfastHi Nicolas,
You can configure a Restricted VLAN using the command "authentication event fail action authorize vlan (number)" and limit the access for that vlan using ACLs.
You can refer to
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3750/software/release/12.2_58_se/configuration/guide/sw8021x.html#wp1179086 for more info.

802.1x Machine Based Authentication - Password expired
Hi,
I would like to ask 1 question about machine based authentication on 802.1x.
1.We are deploying 802.1x on wired user.
2.Some user are using machine based authentication in order to authenticate their port.
3.However, after the user password expired, the user need to change their password and then the machine are unable to authenticate. The error i got is "External DB user invalid or bad password". Then switch assign the user to Guest Vlan
4.But, once i plug out the cable and plug in back the UTP cable after the user login, the switch will assigned the user to proper VLAN.
5.User wont be able to access their share drive n etc since the guest vlan only have access to the internet.
5.Anyone have any idea what is happening? It seems that the machine is sending the old password during authentication process to the ACS.
Anybody can shed a light to me. Thanks. This should certainly work with that rev. On your passed (or failed) auth log, you should see the username of the session authenticating. If you see the FQDN of the machine, this is a machine auth. Also, machine-auth typically executes before the GINA is displayed to the user. It sounds like machine-auth is failing and we need to determine why. Has this machine been away from the domain for long?

PDF calling webservice - handling an incorrect authentication password
Hi All,
I have a PDF, connected to a webservice.
Connecting to this webservice requires authentication (username & password).
In the event that the user enters an incorrect password, how do I handle this on the PDF form?
I noticed in LC server logs, it logs that an incorrect password was attempted on a WSDL, however I dont seem to be getting anything back.
I have put a try catch around the connection in the PDF, but I recieve nothing.
Surely, I am missing something here about handling Webservice responses when calling from a PDF.
Thanks in advance.Hi Gerben,
Thanks for hint. I created a new credential for SOAP. But there is a new issue. While calling the webservice, parameters are not passed properly. Service provider considers those values as null and returns an exception. Am I missing any other setting here?
I have checked Admin guide already. But not much of help.
Thanks

Where are the authentication passwords stored in Firefox?
I created a web site which was set up with a password and I have forgotten it.
When using the URL it requires authentication the field has dots so password must be stored somewhere in Firefox but where?
PeterIt is quite possible that this website displays those dots (bullets) as some default place holder if they appear in the password field.
Does Firefox fill a user name as well?
You can inspect and manage the saved passwords here:
*Tools > Options > Security: Passwords: "Saved Passwords" > "Show Passwords"
