Authorising computer itunes unavailable

I have a new computer and am trying to authorise iTunes so that I can transfer purchases etc.
Every time I try to authorise the computer it says 'iTunes is temporarily unavailable'. This has been going on for over a week now, anyone know what's going on?

Hello Caroline,
Congratulations on your new computer, and thank you for the details you provided for the issue you are experiencing when authorizing your computer in iTunes.
For an issue like this, I recommend troubleshooting your connection to the iTunes Store using the articles below:

  • I have always synced my Iphone 4 to a previous laptop but now want to use a new (already iTunes authorised) computer. I don't mind losing music but want to know if I will lose data such as photos or texts? Thanks,

    Hi,
I have an iphone 4, using IOS 5.0.1 and have always synced it to my laptop (windows vista, 32 bit). I have recently bought a new desktop computer (Windows 7, 64 bit) and after putting it off for a while, i've decided to bite the bullet and sync my iphone with my new computer. I have already authorised my itunes account on my new computer, and i don't mind loosing music. I am more concered though about the risk of loosing my text messages and photos on my phone.
Could anyone please tell me if i will loose the messages and photos from my phone when syncing to a new computer.
    Thanks alot,
    Chris.

When you connect the iPhone to sync with the new computer,  a number of things will happen. If the new computer/iTunes does not contain any music, then yes, you will receive a prompt saying this iPhone is synced to another library, and if you continue, you will lose your music. However, you risk losing a number of other things, such as apps, contacts and calendar data. When you ask about photos, any photos that you have on the iPhone that were synced from the previous computer would also be lost. You need to save the photo folder from the old laptop and transfer that to the new desktop. You also need to sync the contacts and calendar to the same supported application that you were using in the past, such as Outlook, unless you are using an outside web-based sync, such as Google. Also, when you first connect the iPhone, it will make a backup, or at least make sure that it does before you attempt to sync, or you will not have a backup of some of the other things, such as mail settings, SMS, and the contents of the Camera Roll. I would import the photos from the camera roll to the new computer before trying to do anything else in iTunes.

  • Where is the authorise computer in Itunes Store menu?

Hi ... can anyone advise where on Itunes Store is the menu showing authorise computer.  Am currently trying to sync my iphone 3GS to a new PC.........

I tried all of these without success then had a stroke of luck. I only downloaded itunes today and could not find the "store" menu item. I finally found a tiny icon in the very top left of the itunes screen (looks like a page of paper with the left half black and right half white) and a tiny triangle beside it. When I clicked on it, it gave a drop down menu. One item was "show menu bar". When I clicked this it opened a menu bar that had the "store" as an option and voila!!! there was "authorise this computer" as an option. Easy once you know how!!!!

You are looking at the drop-down menus at the top of iTunes e.g. on a Mac :
If you are on iTunes 11 on Windows then press Alt-S and the Store menu should appear at the top.

  • HT1848 where is the 'authorise computer' in itunes?

    Hi folks
When I charge my iphone through my imac, I get the message that there is an upgraded OS which I should download.
But when I say yes to that, the message is that I should transfer purchases from my phone to itunes.
The process for this is supposed to be:
    Open iTunes.
From the Store menu, choose Authorize Computer.
In the dialog that appears, the Apple ID button is selected by default.
Enter your Apple ID and password, then click the Authorize button.
But I can't find the 'authorise computer' command in itunes.
    Can anybody help?
    Thanks
    Pete

  • TS1389 iTunes repeatedly prompts to authorise computer even after the computer is already authorised

iTunes repeatedly prompts me to authorise computer before playing a particular song. The problem persists even after I've authorised my computer. When I try to authorise again, it acknowledges that my computer is alrady authorised but the song will still not play.

Bought a song off iTunes Store on my iphone, came home, synced with my computer, and had the same problem with being asked for authorization. I authorized and recieved messages telling me my computer was authorized, yet it kept asking for authorization repeatidly every time I attempted to play the song. The song no longer worked on my iphone as well once I synced with my computer.
I took newriii's advice, deleted the song off my iTunes, logged on the iTunes Store, viewed my purchases, downloaded the song once again, and it now works fine.
    Weird bug, yo.

  • How do I get my music and playlists from iphone to newly authorised computer (some songs are missing)

I have authorised a new comuter
when I plug in my iphone, not all the songs in the iphone show up in the music library on the computer - nor my playlists
How do I get all my songs and playlists from my iphone to my newly authorised computer?

The iphone is not a storage/backup device.  The sync is one way - computer to iphone. The only ex eption is itunes purchases: File>Deviecs>Transfer Purchases
Copy everything from your old computer or your backup cop of your old computer.

    Hello swethachavali,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Make sure that you are authorizing your computer with the same Apple ID that you used to purchase those apps.  Please review the following article for more information:

  • HT1420 Can I download a movie onto my authorised computer and then copy if onto USB stick to put in the TV?

Can I download a movie onto my authorised computer and then copy if onto a USB to plug into our TV?

If you mean a movie purchased from the iTunes Store then the answer is no. Movies purchased from the iTunes Store are protected by DRM (Digital Rights Management) in this case using Apple's 'FairPlay' scheme and this prevents you simply copying and playing the file.
You can however purchase a movie from the iTunes Store and either play it via iTunes on a Mac or PC which could be connected to your TV, or you can use an Apple TV device which is specifically made for this purpose.
    See http://www.apple.com/appletv/
If on the otherhand you mean just a movie you have downloaded from a website which is nothing to do with Apple's iTunes Store then it very much depends on the format of the movie. Some 'Smart' TVs can play some movie file formats from USB memory sticks. You will need to check the specs of your TV to see what formats it supports.

  • Can't Authorise Computer :(

While I was trying to install an application from my iTunes to iPad, it said that I could not install it as "this" computer was not "authorized".
I went to Store>Authorize this Computer, and then entered my ID and password. The authorisation process was successful, and it was my first authorised computer out of 5 allowed. Striaght after this I again selected the app, and clicked Apply. It again came with a window saying that this computer was NOT authorised. I repeated the procedure and I was told that this computer was already authorised.
I re-started iTunes, re-connected iPad, but again I could not transfer (install) ANY application on iPad. However, I've observed that I can uninstall any application without authorisation. wierd !!
Any clue what's going on here? Thanks in advance
PS. I hated iTunes, and now I hate it more I just can't believe this is Apple's own software!

When selecting the program iTunes from your start menu, right click the program name and click on "Run as Administrator".
    Worked for me.

  • Memory upgrade de-authorised computer

    Hi All,
Upgraded my Mac Mini RAM yesterday to 10GB (8+2), even though the upgrade seems to have cured the sluggishness of the system (2.5 GHz Intel Core i5) one side affect is that the computer is no longer authorised to iTunes.
Worse thing is I "deauthorised all" november this year when I bought my Daughters macbook pros for christmas, and iTunes store now suggests i need to wait till 6 nov 2015 to reset.
    Any suggestions please?

Nice support letter from Apple that reset my Authorisations and explain the hardware change "counting" dilemma
    Hello Ian,
    Greetings from iTunes Store Support.
My name is xxxx. First of all, I apologize for the delay in response from us. I know it must have been difficult for you to wait for a response from us and I deeply regret that. I understand that you are unable to de authorize your computer as you already used "deauthorised all" option. I can certainly understand wanting to deauthorize computers that no longer require access to your account and I will certainly look into this for you today.
Ian, I have deauthorized all computers associated with your iTunes Store account. You can now reauthorize the computers that you intend to use. For specific instructions on how to authorize and deauthorize a computer to play your iTunes Store purchases, please read the following technical support article:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1420  If you repair or upgrade certain components on your computer, one computer may use up multiple authorizations.
If possible be sure to deauthorize your computer before you repair or upgrade it to avoid this. If you find that you have computers you would like to deauthorize, you can deauthorize each computer individually by following the steps outlined in the following article:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1206  Alternatively, if you have two or more computers authorized, you can reset your authorization count by clicking Deauthorize All on the Edit Account Information page. Keep in mind that you can only use this feature once a year. The button will not appear if you have less than two computers authorized. I hope I was able to help you today. Here in Apple, we make sure that our customers feel that they are important to us, so I hope you take this as my sincere gesture to help you out.

I would like to be able to download software updates on my Iphone and Ipad at work without erasing my music.  My home computer/Itunes has all of my music saved.  is there a way to use two computers w/o erasing information?  Or can i transfer the music from my Iphone to my work computer?

    - An iPod can only sync with one iTunes library. Yu can however manage music and videos among different computers by:
Using iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers
    - To change syncing computer, move all the media to compute r#2
    - Connect the iPod to #2 and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup
Note tha the iPod backup the iTunes makes does not include synced media like apps and music.
