Authorization and moving to a new location

When I moved from my parents house to my boyfriends house Itunes said that my computer was not authorized even though it was the exact same computer. I was wondering if there's anyway to get around that? If I were to e-mail customer support and explain my situation would they be able to change it to only 1 computer authorized? The reason I'm asking is I have a desktop and I just bought a laptop. So according to Itunes I already have 2 computers authorized and I haven't done my laptop yet so that would be 3. My boyfriends getting a new desktop and I was wanting to authorize his so that would be 4 computers. What ***** is I'm moving out of state soon so if I had 4 computers authorized already when I move it's going to say they aren't authorized and I'll only have room for 1 more computer to be authorized. I wanted to authorize the computers I wanted authorized and deauthorize the 1 since it's the same computer before I move so I can listen to my music on my laptop or the desktop but I don't want to have it say they aren't authorized when I move. Also I'm not moving for another 2 months or so. Any ideas? Hopefully this wasn't too confusing lol.

ok I think I understand now lol. This stuff can be a bit confusing. So what you're saying is let's say I have 4 computers authorized I can deauthorize and then reauthorize them as many times as I want in a year but if I have 5 computers I can only deauthorize all and then reauthorize all once a year? Is that what you meant if so thank-you for answering my question it is solved.

Images I move from one folder into another are disappearing, at first it was occurring immediately and only if I did not copy and paste the images. Today however I found out that images I had been using for days just up and vanished from their new location. A few of these images had copies in another folder that remained and the ones I couldn't find may or may not have ever had copies. I had backed up my system with time machine recently as well, so I went into the backup to retreive the lost images. When I searched and found the backup copies I got the error "the file alias cannot be opened because the original cannot be located". The crazy thing is that the images that remained on my computer did not give me the same error and opened like they should.
In short images that I am creating, saving, and using are disapearing so epically that even time machine versions are affected when retrieval is attempted. Any suggestions as to what I could be doing wrong without realizing it? Or perhaps other people have had similar bugs that are software related and have a solution?

    Hi Kevin,
I understand what you tried to do but it doesn't work that way. Swapping drive names will just mess things up.
You should be able to reconnect the files though: in the Locate Referenced Files dialog make sure you click the Show Reconnect Options button — this will give you access to all the connected drives. Locate one of the files and hit Reconnect All. Should do the trick.

  • Moved G5 to new location, airport not working

I just moved my G5 downstairs to the same exact place where I typically use my laptop (powerbook G4). Never had an issue with the laptop recognizing airport and going online, but now my G5 won't show any networks at all and I can't get airport to work.
Is there something I should be changing in the settings or how can I get airport to work on my G5 in the new location?
    Thanks much!

    Hello BDAqua
No problem, I do quite a bit of experimenting with my Macs and find out some weird things, but some are working to my advantage, I always operate my Power Mac G5 without the side panel now, but of course keep the air deflector in place, unless theres company coming over, then I replace the side access panel. Also, there is an antenna inside the G5. It runs along the opposite side of the G5 case behind the logic board to the rear of the case, where the external antenna is connected. So by removing the side access panel, it allows for moderate reception. =) As mentioned earlier though, definitely not as good as the external antenna, but when used without the access panel in combination with the external antenna, it get better reception than my 1.25GHz iMac G4 did. And by the way, this also is true for Bluetooth as well, as I have a Bluetooth Board installed in my G5. =) I loaded my G5 once I bought it (Used).
    Regards again. =)

  • Recovering an iPhoto Library from damaged HD and moving it to new HD

    Dear Experts,
I am seeking directions on a procedure that might be straight forward but I must be do this correctly. I lost my iMac internal HD when it stopped booting. The System was 10.4.8 and iPhoto6. Booting from Norten showed 68 damaged blocks. Set up a PowerBook and connected via fire wire to iMac and ran in target mode. I Finder copied the entire contents of the dead HD to an external FW drive. Lost about 3 GB's of data from dead HD but don't know what is missing. The iPhoto Library from the dead HD has, among many files, a "Library.iPhoto" file as well as a "Library6.iPhoto" file. It also contains Original, Modified, and Recovered Photos folders.
I replaced the damaged internal HD drive with a new drive. Installed a clean version of Tiger on the new internal HD and did all software updates to get me current to 10.4.8. When I opened iPhoto6 from the new internal HD there were, naturally, no photos. When I opened iPhoto with "option-iPhoto open", I was instructed to select a Library. I directed iPhoto to the "iPhoto Library" from the external FW drive. Every thing appears to be normal, with the original organizational structure intact.
I now want to move the original AND modified photos from the external FW drive to my new internal HD, preserving roll names, ratings, keywords, i.e. the complete database. Afterwards, I want to erase the external FW drive, so I must be sure that I have the complete folder on the internal HD. I don't want iPhoto to be linked to the Library Folder on the FW.
    1) Should I trash the contents of the iPhoto Folder on the internal drive (which has no photos) and replace it with the contents of the iPhoto Folder on the external FW drive (the one from my original disk)?
    2) Should I simply replace the "Library6.iPhoto" on the internal HD with the "Library6.iPhoto" file on the FW?
    3) Must I use iPhoto Library Manager to move my old data?
    4) Would I have to use iPhoto dB Backup from Toad's Celler?
    5) When I commissioned the new internal HD, I used the option of transferring all my settings, preferences, etc. from the old computer (the contents of the damaged internal HD which I had copied to the external). Could this have corrupted anything in the iPhoto Library? Why do I have a "Library.iPhoto" file in the old iPhoto Library Folder and not in the new iPhoto Library Folder on the new internal HD?
    6) When I opened the original iPhoto Library from iPhoto application, my picture count was 2037. In that same folder, the total pictures were as follows:
    "Originals" Folder: 2149
    "Modified" Folder: 487
    "Recovered Photos" Folder: 37
    Why the discrepancy?
    Many thanks.
    iMac G4, 800 MHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I recommend you do number 1 from your list. Then open iPhoto with the option key so you can reselect the correct library folder on your new internal HD.
You shouldn't need to do any of the other things you mentioned.
As far as the numbers question 6, have you deleted photos without emptying the iPhoto trash? Try emptying the iPhoto trash and see if the numbers now match.

  • BO6.5 ORB error after moving server to new location

    Post Author: seetr
    CA Forum: Older Products
Our server was forklifted to a new location within our network, so the IP address changed but everything else remains the same.  Now we are unable to restart the BO server.  We found a location in the Configuration Tools > ORB setting where the IP was hardcoded.  We were able to change the IP after stopping all BO services running on the server, but we could not complete the setting change as we keep getting the following error - "Configuration script cannot be started (Error: CFT 06002)".  Any ideas?  Thanks!

    Hi,
What steps did you perform in the Configuration Tools to update the IP address?  Can you provide details?
You may have to Update the ORB or completely recreate it.
Note that if you recreate the ORB, you need to backup your Storage folder.
But before proceeding with the above, please check the following note:
1182500 - Error: "Configuration script cannot be started(Error: CFT 06002)" when customer trying to update the ORB
    Symptom
When trying to update the ORB the following error message appears: "Configuration script cannot be started(Error: CFT 06002)" You are then unable to ping the IP address for a server name.
    Cause
The "C:/Winnt" or "Windows/System32" value is missing for the System variable PATH.
    Resolution
    Perform the following steps:
    - Add C:/Winnt or Windows/System32 to the System variable PATH.
    - Reboot the server.
    - Update the ORB.
    Hope this help.

After moving I prepared the user and the role for this user he will be able to read infotype records for employes in the organizational assignment where they were moved.

I checked view of table V_T582A and there in infotype 0001, 0007, 0008 in detailes the field: Access auth was checked, so I executed tests and this field was unchecked. But this test wasn't successfule.

  • Moved desktop to new location in home, can't connect to internet

Quick bit of background- I was using a _PowerMac G4_ downstairs in my house with a _2Wire (wireless modem)_ connection. Upstairs, I had a PC also on the 2Wire. Both connected to the net just fine.
A couple of days ago, the PC died, so I moved the PowerMac upstairs to where the PC was. Now, I am unable to pick up the internet using the 2Wire attachement. The message that I get is: +"Safari could not log in because you are not connected to the internet."+
The other thing that I noticed is that I do not have the AIRPORT icon in the top right of my monitor. Instead of the three or four curved lines, one beneath the next, I am seeing an icon that looks like a telephone receiver. The impression that I get is that either AIRPORT is turned off or that the computer doesn't recognize that it has it installed.
I've tried all of the normal HELP routes:
    +- Restarting the modem+
+- Going to Apple icon -> System Preferences -> Network -> (when I get this far, AIRPORT is not listed in the left-hand column as an option, nor is it listed in the drop down for CONFIGURATION).+
+- I click on ASSISTANT but, although AIRPORT is listed, I can't select it as one of the options.+
I tried SBC Yahoo U-verse tech support but they don't have a lot of training with Apple products so I didn't get very far with them.
I recall, when I first placed the G4 in its original location, I had a similar problem. I was able to resolve it through U-verse tech support after a bit of time. I wish that I could remember the details, but I think that it had something to do with the version of OS X that I had not recognizing AIRPORT and having to perform some sort of cheat. (For the heck of it, I tried U-verse support a couple of times hoping that maybe the next tech that I got might know about this issue, but no luck so far).
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
    *PowerMac G4*
    *OS X 10.5.8*
*Wireless Connection through 2Wire Gateway 3800 HGV-B modem*

Three tips that may help out in your situation:
    • Your Airport card might have a loose connection; open your tower and make sure the card's properly connected; if the airport card itself is malfunctioning, replace it with a new one; otherwise, you won't be able to add a preferred network name in Apple pulldown/System Preferences/Network.
    • Consider getting a better modem/router (e.g., 7550 ADSL2+Gateway); from what I understand, the 2-WIRE routers are based on older, less reliable technology.
    • Make sure the security protocol's set to WEP; that's the only protocol that the Airport card in a PowerMac G4 can understand. If you try to set the security protocol to WPA, the handshaking between WPA and the Airport card will fail and your computer won't be able to join new networks. In short, WPA's not backwards-compatible with PowerMac G4s; it's only compatible with the newer Intel-based Macs, which, by the way, are more flexible than PowerMac G4s in that they can communicate with a broader range of security protocols, including WEP and WPA.
    Good luck.

  • Looking to point iTunes (playlists and all) to a new location

    Hello all,
I'm in a bit of a pickle of my own making, and I greatly appreciate any help anyone is able to offer on this one.
I've been using iTunes as a playlist jukebox much more than as a file organizer. Here is my normal mode and sequence of operation, largely because I came into using iTunes later than some other programs out there (like MusicMatch Jukebox or WMP).
    1. Rip tracks to my hard drive using another program.
    2. Add folders/files to iTunes, then create playlists, usually one CD=one playlist. If I have a multi-CD set, I will create a playlist of all the CDs together, instead of individual playlists for each CD.
    3. I do not have iTunes organizing files for me, and I do not create files when adding to the library, because they are already created on my hard drive.
Several months ago, my 80GB internal drive was running out of room, so I copied everything to a 100GB external drive and started ripping newer tracks out there as I acquired them, and creating new playlists for those newer tracks. I did not re-organize my iTunes library at that time, because I didn't know what to do to accomplish that. So, my current iTunes library has older playlists pointing to files still on my C: drive and newer ones (after the copy to the external drive) to my external drive.
I also have some music that was imported directly into iTunes, mostly acquisitions from the Music Store. Those files reside exclusively on my C: drive, no copies out on the external drive at this time, and if need be, they could stay on C:, but if I can also move them to the external drive and iTunes can still find them, that would be great.
I would like to retain all my playlists that are currently referencing files on C:, but still point iTunes to the external drive for every file and playlist reference, since copies of the files on older C: drive playlists are now on the external drive, except for the directly imported files already mentioned. And, if you didn't see this one coming, I'd really like to reclaim the music file space on my C: drive, only after iTunes doesn't look there anymore for files to satisfy the playlists. Well over 50GB stands to be gained here, once reclaimed.
Now the kicker - I have over 20,400 tracks and well into the hundreds of playlists.
So there you have it - I have dual copies of most of my music files until I can get iTunes to forget about the old copies entirely, and to not have to re-create those hundreds of playlists to reference files on the external drive.
I have thought about using an editor on my iTunes library XML file to change all references to C: to my external drive name (and top-level folder references to change as well), but no editor (XML or otherwise) I have in my arsenal will hold a file this big.
Again, many thanks in advance to anyone(s) of you kind readers who might be able to throw this old (53 YO) dog a bone of useful information.
With a little bit of hope and a whole lot of thanks,
    Gorgo
    Cincinnati OH
Dell Dimension 2400   Windows XP   External hard drives

Once more, thanks for responding, Mimico!
    Bad news here, I'm afraid.
The consolidation aborted because apparently a file name was too long for the copy, and there was only a puny generic message box notifying me of samesaid abort. No reference to what track(s) caused the problem. I could be all day chasing that one down. No can do.
Needless to say, I went back to the original library file on my C: drive. Then desperation set in. I felt I had no alternative but to delete 99 3/4% of my library entries manually, leaving only those tracks that I purchased through the iTunes Store. The plan being, to also kill all existing playlists and rely on the Browser instead, once I got my track references lined up, supposedly by the following step.
Then I did an import, pointing to the master folder on my external drive, thinking it would pick up everything underneath, per the directions in the Help file for mass imports of music.
The import managed to pick up only about 1/7 of my collection on the external drive, even though it is all there on that drive under that folder. There may be different layers of subfolders and files under the main folder, but the predominating structure is an artist subfolder, than a CD subfolder, then the associated MP3 track files at the lowest level. Some of those CDs with that structure got picked up, many others did not. Bad result.
Is there any alternative to manually searching for missed folders and importing them one folder at a time? That would be the biggest help to me at this stage, I'm afraid. Otherwise, I guess I have to do what needs to be done.
    Sitting in my doghouse,
    Gorgo

  • Since moving to a new location Foxfire is very slow

I have recently moved and since that time Foxfire is very slow and hesitant. I have rebooted and everything I know to do. Can you please help me?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • Selling and moving to a new computer

    Hello,
I am selling my computer and then I will buy a new one to replace it. I have Photoshop Elements 6 on hte current computer, and I want to be able to install it on the new computer. I could not find an answer after a search.
What is the process for this? I don't see a deactivate button in the help menu.
Also, I am going to buy a new laptop. Does anyone know how many computes I can install Elements 6 (for Mac) on?
    Many thanks.
    Joe.

Unless you bought a serial number for the trial via the Buy It Now button within the trial itself, PSE has no activation, so if you bought a boxed version the retail download version, or have a bundled version that came with something like a scanner, just remove it from the computer you're selling and install it again on the new machine.

  • IMovie Theatre -- Moving to a New Location

Is there a way to move the location of iMovie Theater to a external drive?  I set up a iMovie Library (using iMovie 10.0) on my external, but no iMovie Theater was set up on the external, and was only found on my local drive.  Whenever I export a clip or finished project to iMovie Theater, the created file goes to the iMovie Theater on my local drive?
Anyone find a way to move the iMovie Theater location to the external drive?

    Hi Frank,
I am just too stupid to do it as I don't play with terminal commands very often. If I want to move the iMovie Theatre to the Volume "Archive" what do I have to do?
    ln -s (Archive)/iMovie\ Theater.theater ~/Movies/iMovie\ Theater.theater
    ex: ln -s /Volumes/External\ Drive/iMovie\ Theater.theater ~/Movies/iMovie\ Theater.theater
Do I have to copy the entire thing in one line or do I have to hit return twice? Sorry for asking but I just can't handle it. I don't even get what "ex:" means.
    Thanks in advance

  • Changing internal hard disc on MBP and moving data into new one

I have recently taken my MBP into service.
    The mother board is dead.
My hard drive is ok (thank God!)
I have taken the drive out and backing it up while my MBP is in service.
I wish to buy a replacement 500GB drive for the MBP and give this to Apple when they have replaced my motherboard.
Can I copy all the data from my current 250GB into the new drive?
Even Apps, library and Snow Leopard system etc, like clone the 250 to the 500?
Will everything from Snow Leopard system to Apps work?
If so, how do I do this given that the new 500GB drive will be installed into the MBP?
My 250GB has in a new external shell with USB port.
If this is doable, this will save me a lot of time and I can start work again.
Also I get an extra 250gb of free space from the new 500gb drive which will be my virtual space for Photoshop.
    Cal

    Dear friend,
There is (or there was) also a solution (I don't know exactly what is your situation)
wich is to make a complete Time Machine backup of your disk to an external drive,
and then, after installing your hard drive, to start with Apple Install DVD and choose
(NOT to install) the "Restore from Time Machine backup" in the Utilities.
You will *not loose* any byte, any preference, nor anything else. It works very well.
But perhaps can't you do that. Good luck !
    Kind regards
    Olivier Herrbach

Just bought a 2tb external hard drive with the intention of moving my iPhoto data files to it. I have so much of my 500 gigs being used up by images and video. Questions: Will this foul up my iPhoto app?
Do I need to point iPhoto to this new location?
    Thanks!

Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.
    Assuming a Managed Library:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

  • Moved library to new hard drive, iPod no longer communicates

Ok, I am computer savy but know next to nothing about iTunes as I don't use it, but my wife does use it. However, my wife is not computer savy.
My wife's old hard drive started dying (on a Dell laptop), so we bought a new one and moved all her files over. However, she now has 2 problems:
    (1) She cannot use any of the old music files. I read around online, and I have discovered that we need to consolidate the old files from the old HD into a flash drive using the iTunes consolidate library function. Then they can be imported to the new library on the new computer. This is doable as the old drive is not yet completely dead.
    (2) However, she has since purchased/downloaded new songs out of the iTunes store onto the new HD, and thus I need to keep the new HD's library intact or we'll lose the files. *Now the big problem: her iPod will not connect to the new iTunes library.* I assume this is because iPods sync with a particular library, not a particular computer, and the library of the old computer was not properly transferred. Thus there is a new library, that contains songs we don't want to lose, but we can't connect the iPod.
Please help! How do we transfer the old "library" settings that allow the iPod to be synced without completely deleting the existing library on the new hard drive?
    Thanks.
OS is Windows 7 and new HD's iTunes version is 10.0.0.68.

How did you go about this move?
The correct way to do it is
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
If you still have the original library it might be worth trying again.
