Authorization/Deauthorization Questions

Mine is a story of woe & bad computer luck. I have gone through several desktop/laptop computers in a relatively short time and have installed iTunes on each of these units. Some of these are no longer accessible to me due to issues of harddrive failure and so on. I would like to know if there is a way to deauthorize these inactive computers without actually accessing them and without deauthorizing my current computers; if this is not possible, is it then possible to select the "Deauthorize All" option and then reauthorize my current ones, or is it a one-time deal for authorization? Any help would be much appreciated!

There wouldn't be any way to de-authorize a computer you don't have access to anymore without choosing 'De-authorize All'
However, you will be able to authorize the computer again by either playing a purchased song and entering the username and password, or by going along the top of the screen in iTunes and choosing Store>Authorize Computer.

So, I bought a new Macbook Pro which i cannot authorize my itunes for. I don't even have the button indicated in the support section to authorize or deauthorize. I only have one device authorized to my account. I cant remember my security questions and cannot figure out how to change them; I think this might be the reason why i can't authorize my new device. The only way to access my itunes from my Mac is to have my iphone plugged in. Someone please help! I am a complete tard and would like to avoid a trip to the actual Apple store.

Call Apple Care for your country and request that they assist you in resetting the security questions.
To authorize/deauthorize a computer, go to the Store dropdown menu in the iTunes app.

  • Analysis Authorization Migration Question

    Analysis Authorization Migration Question
    This is detail Question
    1)     I am testing Analysis Authorization Migration in NW2004s SP9 and have applied all OSS notes that are relevant to SP09 and are coming in SP10.
    2)     We have 2 Info object flagged as Authorization relevant 0COMP_CODE and 0COSTCENTER
    3)     We have Object level security set-up in BW 3.x system and for a role we have specified values like 0COMP_CODE has value 1000, 1800. “:”. In the same role we have specified 0COSTCENTER value 130001 to 180001, “:”  and hierarchy node.
    4)     When we migrate to Analysis Authorizations, using RSEC_MIGRATION, this program creates 2 Authorizations ZCOCODE00 & ZCOSTCTRH00. Both of them have 0COMP_CODE and 0COST_CENTER Objects.
    5)     ZCOCODE00 authorization gets value 0COMP_CODE values 1000, 1800. “:” and 0COSTCENTER Value “:”.
    6)     On the same line ZCOSTCTRH00 gets value 130001 to 180001, “:”  and 0COMP_CODE “:”.
    1st Question:
    1)     Why does it create 2 Authorizations?
    2)     During Checking it does not pass the authorizations, because it seems to me that it fails in Optimization process.
    3)     I manually merge the authorizations in “ONE” object then authorization check passes.  In other word if I combine ZCOSTCTRH00 & ZCOCODE00 then Query authorization check passes.
Any one is struggling on this.
Please note, I am doing Migration so that it updates existing Profiles (Roles now from SP9).
Any comments will be very help full.

    Hello Pankaj
There are some basic misunderstandings on your side.
    Let me try to clarify:
First we should distinguish between migration of authorizations and of what a query does with them.
You had 2 auth objects before migration (in 3.x).
Of course, they must be migrated to 2 new analysis auths.
There is no general possibility to combine authorizations to a single one as the may appear in different roles and users. Moreover this would kill performance and finally, nobody would recognize the origin.
Only in very restricted cases one could think of a combination of auths which come out of migration. But, then people loose overview about what goes on.
Before the corrections in note "Migration IV" the : had not been inserted but now it is for good reasons.
Now, accept for the moment that you receive 2 auths.
Then, you cannnot (must not) combine the 2 resulting authorizations!
    <b>Authorization 1</b>
    COMP_CODE : 1000, 1300, “:”
    Cost Center : “:”
    <b>Authorizations 2</b>
    Comp_Code “:”
    Cost Center : 3100001-31999999; “:” plus a Hierarchy Node.
    This means that e.g. combination
    COMP_CODE 1000
    COST_CENTER 3100001-31999999
<u>is not allowed!!!</u> Therefore, they must not be combined!
Also, the query and its optimization is comepletely independent of the migration. And here, during query run time the auths cannot be combined. It is no failure!
Moreover, the merging optimization is just a performance optimizaiton and has nothing to do with whether the query result is authorized or not.
If you combine them manually you have authorized different combinations.
Well, now you may wonder why you get 2 auths at all which leads to a "no auth" result in the query execution.
The reason is, that in 3.x where you got a result with your 2 auth objects the modeling was wrong.
If you want to authorize any combination of characteristic values, you should combine these characteritics together in one auth object, not in 2!
(In BI7.0 it works like that but not in 3.x)
But you defined 2 which may be valid even in several other InfoProviders independently and not even at the same time. Moreover, the auth objects may come from different roles and may be assigend to different users which then have completely different auth content. In general it is not possible to combine different auth objects or to find out those special situations which nevertheless allow for such optimizations. If you re-do a migration with more objects and users you could even receive different results which is also not satisfying.
Therefore, instead, the mechanism was introduced to insert a : auth to those characteristics that are auth relevant (and checked now with 7.0) but not in the currently processed auth object.
In you special case it may have made sense to combine them but not in general. And a migration can only try to work as general as possible.
For your application you may combine the 2 auths manually if you want to allow also the crossover combinations
    COMP_CODE 1000
    COST_CENTER 3100001-31999999

correct, it doesn't. you would see a photos tab if you connect an iPod Touch or iPhone in the summary tab of those devices.
    and the authorize/deauthorize button
it's not a button, it's a menu entry. click on the store menu in iTunes.

  • Authorize-deauthorize circle

Another member of my household recently purchased a 15" MacBook Pro POST mid-2010, that is, a laptop whose mini displayport outputs audio as well as video. I would like to display the videos purchased in iTunes from his laptop to our HDTV. We have the right cable for mini displayport to HDMI, and it works just fine. HOWEVER, I cannot authorize his computer on my iTunes account.
When I try to authorize his computer, the error message is like Cannot find the required file or its permissions may be bad, either find the file and fix the permissions or deauthorize the computer.
When I try to deauthorize his computer, the SAME message displays. Hence, I cannot deauthorize his computer. There is no indication of what the file is that it needs, where it is, or what its permissions should be.
Thus, I seem to be in an endless circle. The deauthorization keeps telling me to deauthorize but will not let me do it.
My account has only 3 computers authorized.
How do I fix this problem?
    Thanks.

Then it is time to learn to deauthorize computers as they are taken out of use.

  • Authorization check question

Hi all, I have a question regarding authority-check.
I have a program with some custom buttons, these buttons will show a small window where the user has to enter some data. This data then will be shown in an ALV grid, and also be saved in a custom table.
There are two buttoms, and I have to check is the user has authorization for each one of them. How do I do that? what would be the authorization object? and what would be the activity?. does the authorization object needs to be created somewhere? if so, can you give me the transaction?.
    TIA Mauro.

    Hello,
You can create your own authorization object using Tcode SU21. Use the authorization object when he clicks on the button.

  • Authorization/Deauthorization Issues!!

I just finished transferring my songs from my 2nd Gen. iPod Nano and tried to play one of the songs.  It told me that I had to authorize my computer so when I went in to authorize it, it says that I reached my limit (5).  When I tried to unauthorize my computer, it says it was never authorized in the first place.  Any way I can get around this issue??  I have any clue who I authorized... It was years ago!!!!

    Hello mellew09,
If you have reached the limit of 5 authorized computers, you can always use the Deauthorize All option. For more information, see this article.

  • Sudden authorization / deauthorization issues

I await the lavish apology due to me and countless others for the fact that something - almost certainly the recent "Security Update" - has caused iTunes to have some kind of hemorrhage. It says my computer is not authorized to play all the music I have paid good money to download, but when I try to authorize my machine iTunes tells me "This computer is already authorized". Color me unimpressed.
And while we're at it, as others have written elsewhere on the web, what part of "DO NOT ASK ME THIS QUESTION AGAIN" does iTunes not understand?
Basically, can a tiny fraction of Apple's marketing budget please be plowed into funding some better coding? Thanks.

I agree 100%. I too have many songs that I spent money on and I can no longer play them. I have sent numerous emails to Apple and keep getting the same instruction on how to fix it! This is completely wrong and they need to do something about this.

  • Error when trying to authorize/deauthorize itunes

I have searched and searched for help. I found some useful information, but none answered my problems 100%. The problem is: earlier today all of my itunes songs worked just fine then I downloaded 3 albums and now all of a sudden I get the following error message when trying to play any of my downloaded songs: "this computer is not authorized to play "xxxxxx" would you like to authorize it?" I then type in my ID and Password and it gives me this error message: "There was an error storing your authorization information on this computer....the required directory was not found or has a permissions error." I store my songs on an external drive so I go and check to see if the albums/songs I downloaded were saved correctly, which they were. I then go to the 'store' and I try to deauthorize, but I am unable to and it gives me the same error message 'there was an error storing your information'...I am stumped. I have tried just about everything. what am I doing wrong? I am beyond angry.

Have you solved this problem yet? This is the EXACT problem I am having!!! This just started after I upgraded to 10.5.2. Please Help!!!

  • HT1420 Authorization/Deauthorization

I have reached the limit on how many computers I can authorize, but some of the computers are duplicates. If I deauthorize all of my computers will I lose my library, and can I then reauthorize said computers?

    1. If a computer is using multiple authorizations, try deauthorizing it once for each authorization it uses, and then reauthorizing it one time.
    2. You won't lose the library. Back it up anyway.
    3. Yes.

  • Computer authorization / deauthorization

I've just installed Mountain Lion on my iMac - previously i've been using home sharing, but after the upgrade iTunes ask for computer authorization. When I'm trying to authorize - i get the message that "either my credentials are wrong or I do not have the correct permissions on the shared folded" this is a translation from Danish - but You'll probably get the messages.....
I get the same message no matter if I try to authorize or deauthorize....

Okay. On some rarer occasions, the message might also be caused by damage to the SC Info folder. If you remove your SC Info folder, does that allow you to authorise? For instructions see the following document:

  • Authorization/Deauthorization Problems

I have an HP laptop which was continually crashing. I had to reinstall Windows multiple times and every time reloading my music on through itunes and authorizing it. Every time the comptuer crashed, I wasn't able to deauthorize it so relatively quickly I reached the maximum number of authorized computers.
Now I just bought a new computer and I installed itunes and move my music to it. I can not authorize any of the songs because the limit has been reached, but last time I called Apple they said to deauthorize the computer. I can not do that this time because it says one of two things, either:
"This computer was not authorized. To authorize this computer, play a song you have purchased using this account" (obviously I can't play a song because I can't authorize it)
    or
"Could not remove this audible account because an error occured (-44119)"
    Any suggestions?
      Windows XP

Your Limit Is %. Once you reach 5 you can go into your iTUnes account and hit a "Deauthorize all" button. this button only appears when you reach the limit of 5 AND you can only use it once a year, so the first time you use it, it will not appear on your account again til the next year. So if you have not used the button yet, you can do that just remeber it will not come back til (If you do it now) May 2007.
You can email the music store about this here http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/musicstore/authorization/

  • Another Deauthorization Question

I installed the Vista beta dual-booting with XP on my computer, and authorized iTunes in both XP and Vista. Now, my Vista beta crashed, and I'd like to deauthorize it. I've searched through the support site and this forum. I have 4/5 computers authorized, and I'd like to deauthorize all if I can't just deauthorize the defunct Vista account. Is this possible if all five authorizations are not used?
    Tom

If the iTMS treated your Vista installation as a separate system, then there's probably no way to deauthorize it until you reach the five-system limit at which point a button will appear in your iTunes account that will allow you to deauthorize all your systems. You can try just doing the "deauthorize" from your XP partition and see if it still shows "deauthorize" (which would indicate multiple authorizations tied to your one computer), and if it does do it again until it gets to "authorize". If not, though, then you're stuck until you reach five authorizations.
BTW, iTunes and QuickTime are not Vista-compatible at the present time, so if you decide to reinstall Vista again, don't install iTunes in Vista, or at least don't use it to access the iTMS, or you may be right back in the same soup.

  • Deauthorization Question

I had my old PC authorized on iTunes. My HD crashed and I purchased a new PC (it was time to upgrade anyway). Since old PC crashed, no opportunity to deauthorize old PC. Installed iTunes on new PC. Itunes thinks I have 2 PCs authorized. How do I authorize old since I cannot access that PC?

You can't de-authorise a 'dead' computer. Once you reach the limit of 5 authorisations you have the option once a year deauthorise all computers in one go. Until that happens this one stays authorised: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation

  • HT1420 Can't authorize/deauthorize

I am caught in a very frustrating revolving door.  iTunes tells me I can't play a song because my computer is not authorized, because I have used all 5 of the allowed authorizations (must be some still authorized dead old computers, as I only have 2 and an ipod).  So I deauthorize all, but when I try to then authorize receive the same message about no more authorizations available...help!

    Use the Deauthorize All function.
