Authorization Error ( -42408 ) for iTunes / iPod

suddenly, itunes invalidated purchased tunes on ipod at the time of sync due to the use of unauthorized computer, which i've been using past years and synced the same ipod almost everyday.
then, i tried to authorize my computer by typing in UserID and password for itunes store. Then a popup displays the failure of authorization due to the unknown error (-42408).
the process below was repeated for 4 times to eliminate any possibility of human error... i repreated itunes > store > authorize computer. the password and id were confirmed to be correct by logging onto itunes store account.
the only special condition would be that the last time, i used ipod until complete exhaustion of its battery charge. nothing changed other than this. ipod was manually rebooted during the attempt to correct the above-mentioned problem. i'm completely lost about why it's happening and how to fix this...

SOLVED !!
i found this article: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2339866&tstart=0
and followed this method: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1389
The trick was to log out and log in from the account. (i was using the admin account whole time so it's like re-log in. )
by doing that, iTunes didn't even prompt me to authorize at all.
thank you all for your hearted support.

Has anyone else received Error 42408 with Itunes 10.4.8?  If so, is there an easy, straightforward way to fix it?  All the answers I have found online so far sound very confusing.  I cannot connect to the store, or synch my Ipod Touch.  I noticed it was a common error for Itunes 9.0.3, but I just updated my Itunes a couple of days ago, and didn't have any problems before that.

Authorising and deauthorising is only for computers, iOS devices (iPads, iPhones and iPod Touches) don't needit. Are you getting an error message that implies that it needs authorising ?

This error occurs when the device unexpectedly loses its USB connection with iTunes. This can occur if the device is manually disconnected during the restore process. This issue can be resolved by performing USB troubleshooting, using a different USB dock-connector cable, trying another USB port, restoring on another computer, or by eliminating conflicts from third-party security software.

  • Which store do you go to, to authorize your computer for itunes!?!?!?!? o.O

Hi... look i am having SO much trouble! I can't figure which store you go to to authorize your computer for itunes purchases! Help please!

As you appear to be in Canada, you would want to log on to the Canadian iTunes Store. Do you already have an iTunes Store account? If you have purchases, I'm guessing you do.
I'm not entirely sure what your actual problem is. Is there a particular error message you're getting? What, exactly, is happening. The more details you give, the better the answers you'll get.
    Best of luck.

encountered error r6034, runtime error, window error 1114 for itune 11.1.4 update. Same error msgs for when I tried to uninstall and reinstall as suggested.
pls advise if you have another solution to it... thx

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

  • Unable to authorize This Computer for iTunes

About 8 months ago I installed iTunes on one of my desktops (Windows) and setup the store access and actually purchased the OS update for my iTouch. Yesterday I purchased an iPad for my wife and started to set it up on her laptop. I've installed iTunes 9.1 and attempted to "Authorize This Computer" for iTunes purchases, I also attempted to do this on my laptop (both are running Win7 x64). Per the iTunes screen an email was sent to my account but I never receive it. Prior to the attempt to authorize the two computers from my wife's laptop I issued a request to reset my password. This email I received and reset the password. I then received a confirmation email that the password was reset.
Why cannot I receive the emails to authorize my two laptops?

In the iTunes window click on Store > Authorize This Computer
In the "Authorize This Computer" I enter my email and password, click on the "Authorize" button.
A new window pops up title "You have not verified your account", Click OK to review the instructions on how to verify your account.
I click on the OK button and then the iTunes main window informs me that an email as been sent to my account and it displays my email address.
I never receive the email and I have zero idea what to do at this point.
The link you provided is about "Authorizing a computer allows you to manage which computers can play music, videos, audiobooks, or other content purchased from the iTunes Store" - This sounds like what I want to do but I cannot authorize either my computer or my wife's computer. At this point nether of us have or can purchase anything using my iTunes account.
At this point I'm totally confused and upset and very close to returning the **** iPad. I thought this was going to be a simple process but it is turning into a can of worms.
What I'm attempting to do is have one iTunes store account where either myself or my wife can purchase.

  • Authorization error message in iTunes when transferring music to iPod

This has been driving me nuts. I have a 30GB iPod w/ the color display and a brand new Intel MacBook with the latest version of iTunes (iPod's been updated as well). My previous computer, a Powerbook G4, fell off a counter and died on the spot, so my only back up for all the music I have is what's on my iPod.
First, I couldn't transfer all of my music from my iPod to the MacBook because of an authorization problem with iTunes. So, I authorized my computer, which still didn't solve the problem. I resorted to using iPodRip which successfully got all the music off the iPod and onto the MacBook. No harm, no foul.
The problem now is that I can't transfer music from the MacBook to the iPod for the exact same reason: I get the error message saying that some songs are not authorized to play.
I have tried the following things:
    1) Deauthorizing and re-authorizing my computer on iTunes = No luck. iTunes informs me that I am now authorized and that I have 1 out of 5 authorizations in use, but the songs still won't transfer.
    2) Playing an "unauthorized" song in iTunes. Again, I get a message asking me to enter my account info and then thanking me for authorizing. However, the song won't play in iTunes, nor will it transfer to the iPod.
    3) Restoring my iPod to the factory settings. Not sure why I tried this, but it didn't work and is the reason why I no longer have all my songs on my iPod and am trying so desperately to get them back.
    4) Used iPodRip to try to reverse the process, but again, no dice.
I have a feeling that the answer to this is stupidly simple and I'm somehow missing some crucial step somewhere. Can someone help me out?
Intel MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Alright, I think I solved the problem on my own. For what it is worth, restarting the computer seemed to solve all of my issues. After restarting, iTunes accepted my authorization (alerting me that I now have 2 of 5 machines authorized) but my iPod kept disconnecting after syncing. So, I reset the iPod, downloaded iTunes 7 and reinstalled it, and whaddya know- It works! I have all of my music on both my computer and the iPod.
    It was stupidly simple, too.

  • ITunes Error 3194 for my iPod Touch?

So I repeatedly tried to update my 4th Gen iPod to iOS 5 to no avail so I started searching ways to do it because every time I tried to update I would get iTunes Error 3194 "iPod could not be restored". I put my device into DFU mode like the guide suggested and then tried to hit restore on iTunes to automatically update it, however, it keeps giving me the same error! Now my iPod won't do anything and I have no idea how do fix it. I do have the latest verison of iTunes Advice? Thanks

Error 3194: Resolve error 3194 by updating to the latest version of iTunes. "This device is not eligible for the requested build" in the updater logs confirms this is the root of the issue. For more Error 3194 steps see: This device is not eligible for the requested build above.

  • Error -42408 at iTunes store

iTunes is telling me my computer is not authorized; when I try to re-authorize, I get an error message (-42408) from the Apple iTunes store. Is this a problem a the store, with my computer, or my iPod?

I've been having this -42408 error problem for weeks. Unable to authorise computer with iTunes store..."try again later". I wasn't able to sync my iPod or do anything, and songs were removed from my iPod (about 100 songs). I tried restoring my iPod and it worked for a day then the problem came back. Talked to a very helpful Japanese guy at Apple who told me to do this...AND IT WORKED!! Evidently my iTunes program was uploaded with a glitch, and had to reload it. He said you have to be extremely careful and follow the exact order deleting and reloading. My music files all reinstalled themselves and everything plays, no errors. (at least not for yet!) this workes for XP but there is a link for other Windows programs. Good luck. (BTW I am not a computer expert so am pleased that this turned out so well.) HUGE SIGH OF RELIEF!

  • Cannot Authorize My Computer for iTunes

Hello, I hope you are well.
I am running Windows 7 and have been using iTunes on this computer for about two years. About two weeks ago, all of the songs I have purchased from iTunes (a few hundred) could not be played because this computer is no longer authorized for some reason. When I check my account, there is only one computer authorized to play the songs, which is the computer I am on.
Whenever I start up iTunes, it says that "This computer is no longer authorized to play purchased items that are on the iPod "Victor's iPod". Would you like to authorize this computer for items purchased from the iTunes Store?" I, of course, try to authorize it, but after entering my username and password (both of which I am completely certain is correct), I get the message "We could not complete your iTunes store request. An unknown error occurred (-42408)."
I have tried every day for the last two weeks using four different Internet connections. Once, and only once, I actually didn't get that message, so I thought my problems had disappeared. However, the next time I plugged in my iPod and started up iTunes again, the same issue returned.
I have spent at least four hours searching for answers in this forum and on Google.com, and have tried approximately 14 suggestions, from minor ones to major ones. Unfortunately, it looks like there are thousands of people with this exact same issue, and although some suggestions have worked for some, a lot of people are still experiencing problems.
Any thoughts on what I can do? Thanks.

    Eject your ipod in itunes.
    Then uncheck this box
the itunes menu > Devices tab
"Prevent ipods and iphones from syncing automatically"
Restart itunes, connect your ipod, and press the sync button.
This helped someone else with the 42408 error:
