  • Multiple listings for Shared Music

I have 2 users on an iMac both sharing their music library.
Both users appear several times in each others "Shared Music" list. It seems that every time the computer is put to sleep and then woken up again the user is added to the "Shared Music" again, so I end up with around 10 listings for the same user.
Only solution so far is quitting iTunes.
Any suggestions what might cause this? (iTunes 6.0.5. on 10.4.7)
      Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Not having that problem with 3.0 on my Touch (2G). Did you check the Album Artist field to make sure they're consistent for all albums by the artist? How about Disk number and Number of Disks?

  • Setting network name for shared music...

How do I set the name of my shared music so it doesn't say somenting stupid like "Joe Blow's Music"?

iTunes Preferences > General > look for Shared Name at the bottom of the page. Name it whatever you like.

  • Loss of authorization for music purchased on iPod

    Dear Experts,
I have a strange authorization problem for (only) music that purchased via itunes on my ipod. The problem does not (seem) to affect music that I purchased via itunes on my PC and synced to my ipod.
After purchasing music on my ipod, then next time that I sync my ipod with itunes, I lose authorization for all music purchased via my ipod. If I deauthorize itunes on my PC, restart itunes and re-authorize itunes I can then play the purchased music. However, the very next time that I sync my ipod, I get the same problem.
So at the moment, everytime I sync my ipod I have to go through a deauthorize/restart/authorize sequence before syncing to ensure I don't lose access to the music purchased on the ipod. Obviously this is pretty damned annoying.
    Any ideas?
    Regards,

  • ITunes does not show Shared Music and cannot listen to Radio

Hi, I would really appreciate some help on this issue - thanks!
In itunes, the 'Shared Music' folder on the left side panel simply does not exist no matter how many times I check/uncheck the 'Look for Shared Music' in configurations. In addition, I cannot connect to any radio stations listed.
I have no trouble accessing the itunes music store and other online features, so I do not think it is my internet. That said, I fear it maybe my norton internet security software thats causing these problems. Just to be safe, I have given total permission/access to anything itunes related: Itunes.exe, itunes music helper.exe, quicktimeplayer.exe, QTinfoapplication.exe and QTtask.exe. Also, I have (to no success), installed Bonjour services from apple and also Rendezvous Proxy. So yeah.. I am pretty much out of ideas.
I live in a college environment, so I'd really like to check out other people's music. My friends on both PCs and Macs do get this problem at all. In addition, before the itunes 4.7 upgrade, I was able to access most people's shared music. However, with additional upgrades, i noticed that my shared music list would dwindle from say 50 to 20 then 10, etc until it reached nill! Pretty scary, so your help is totally appreciated.
    Thanks for reading!

ok b noir I don't have much time but, idt it worked. But, let me explain. Some of the files I didn't see in the registry like the ipod manager. I deleted some of the ipod services and all of the other files I saw that had the word iPod. But, not all of them. There were also many files that were iTunes files. IDK if you wanted me to delete those too.
I did the whole thing restarted it and then opened iTunes and iPod updater. I hoped and hoped that it would work. When I plugged it in. THere were some "Pop" sounds. You know the sounds that usually come up when you add new hardware. But, nothin' came up as a bubble from the taskbar. Just a couple seconds later a message appeared. And this is it: "Windows has finished installing new devices. The Software that supports your device requires that you restart your computer. You must restart your computer before the new settings take effect. Do you want to restart your computer now?" and that's it. The iPod isn't recognized by iPod Updater or iTunes that I have opened.
So if you could tell me what I may have done wrong. Thanx and goodbye.
P.S. This was updated but I tried it again and I couldn't find the ones I needed like iPodmanager and all those. I have the thing that allows me to see hidden files but, I couldn't find them. So I deleted everything that had the name "iPod" and a few files that were iTunes files. I restarted it after downloading iTunes and iPod updater. I plugged it in, nothing. This little thing at the bottom popped up about the new software. That usually happens when it doesn't work. And it said that if I didn't restart it, it wouldn't work properly like it usually says. So I restarted it and when I got back I plugged it in again and the folder with the iPod stuff popped up, which also means that it didn't work. THen I thought about the format because it may have that same problem. So i formatted it in FAT 32 and it formatted. I also put it in disk mode before I formatted it. nothing happened and it still wasn't recognized. Please help.

  • Why can't I Share or see shared music???????

recently downloaded latest itunes version (7.1.1.5). I have the settings set to share music and look for shared music. I am on a network with hundreds of people and I can't see any folders but other people can see each other. Why can't I see anything? I checked and my firewall is not on either...

It could also be that no one else has their library opened up for sharing.
If that was the case then the other people couldn't see each other.

  • Shared Music Folder

I live in a dorm and do not have a "Shared Music" folder. Everyone else on my hall has this folder and is able to listen to each other's music. I installed the latest update for iTunes, and have also switched my preferences to allow for shared music, but I am still having no luck. Any insights would be appreciated.

You shoud try resetting permissions using BatChmod. This is a utility essential for those with multiple logins on the same Mac.

  • ITunes 5 and shared music folder

After upgrading to iTunes 5 i was no longer able to see others in my network who have music to share. I went to another computer on the network with an older version and Shared Music was showing that I was connected. I made sure that my options were set to Search for Shared Music. So, something should show up, but nothing is displayed under the Shared Music file in the sidebar.

Itunes 5.0 will see shares from older versions I'll state that anything older than 4.5 might be a problem though. At this time there is a known bug with sharing and Itunes 5.0 that Apple as yet to address. Just wait for Itunes 5.1 to fix a lot of bugs.

  • Itunes and sharing music

Before I upgraded my iTunes, I was able to share music with other computers that are on the same network... but after I upgraded to the iTunes 5.0.1.4 version, iTunes states that there are no users connected under the preferences in tab, "Sharing"-- but I know for a fact there are... what should I do?

how do you enable your radio?
good point. not sure, don't use my radio much. maybe try putting in a post to that thread to check in with the boys on how to do this?
just checking on something else ... do you have "look for shared music" checked in your sharing preferences?
    love, b

  • No "Shared Music"

"Shared Music" is not appearing in my library, and none of the other postings have helped me.
    Yes I have 5.0.1.4 (pc)
yes I have "show radio" checked.
yes I am on a college network wireless.
yes I have "share my music" checked," and
yes I have "look for shared music" checked.
dont understand how firewall may affect this problem.
    any ideas? thank you!

find a friend that is able to share his music and right click on my computer go to properties, and then computer name. This will display a computer name box, a full computer name label, and then below that it will tell you the work group. Remember that workgroup name.
On your computer, the easiest way for a non "tech-savy" person would be to go to the Control Panel (Start > Control Panel usually). then click on the "Network Setup Wizard." Walk through this wizard and it will ask you the work group you want to join. Type in the name you friend has for his or her workgroup. Finish the wizard and I believe it will ask you to restart.
This may fix the problem with the sharing, but it is hard to say with iTunes v5.0.x. Another option, mainly to check if it's just iTunes or if it is your computer. Download the program myTunes Redux (search on google) and see if that recognizes other people's music. If it does, it's iTunes, if not, it is your computer.
If you have any questions on this process, feel free to ask. I think you can figure out most of the setup wizards and things.

I have old email address's I used for iTune music purchases and cannot change password on several old accounts. Now some of the music I purchased I can not download and authorize it on my device. What can I do password security does not match my birthdate on two of the accounts. Apple can not send me email with a password authorization on several current accounts that I have with them. How can I contact Apple with this annoying problem I can not fix.

settings - app/iTunes store - sign out and sign back in with your new id.
Note - if your older apps needs an update it will use your old apple id and password, as Apps are tied to the apple id that was used to purchase it.
    You can't merge apple id.

  • I need to deauthorize three computers I no longer own, but keep my computer authorization for my current computer and add a new laptop. Is there a way of doing this without having to unauthorize my current desktop which is my main music storage devic

I just purchased a new Win 8.1 laptop and want to authorize it for my iTunes library. I operate this library on a Win 7 desktop. I have three other Windows computers that I no longer own which were authorized under my iTunes account, but I can't unauthorized them because they are broken or sold. I want to have Computer Authorization for just my current desktop running Win 7 and my new laptop operating Win 8.1. How can I selectively unauthorize a computer if I no longer have it in my possession, and if I have to unauthorize all of my computers, how do I get my iTunes library of music back onto my current desktop system?

Deauthorizing the computer will not remove the content from your library. You deauthorize all, then authorize the ones you want. See this support document. Deauthorize your computer using iTunes - Apple Support

  • How can I combine itunes libraries for a shared music setup?

I wanted multiple users on my computer to share the same itunes music folder and library. I put an itunes folder (with an itunes music folder and library data file inside the itunes folder) into the computer's shared folder. I set each users preferences to use the new shared music folder and copy their music to the new folder.I also used the option key on startup of itunes to point each user's itunes to the new shared library.
I'm stumped on how to do one final thing: Is there a way for me to combine everyone's existing library data into the new shared library? In other words, I want all the folders that each user already created to be combined into the new library that everyone sees.

I tried that first, but then you are just replacing one library data file with another, you're not combining them. But I just figured it out myself so my apologies for posting prematurely -- There is an 'add to library' choice under the file menu. You navigate to your original itunes music folder, choose it, and the library information associated with those songs was added to the new shared itunes music folder that my itunes app is now set up to use. Fortunately, I hadn't trashed the original music folder yet.
