Authorization loop

Hello all,
I recently purchased a new iMac with iTunes 7. I moved my iTunes library via burned disc, to my new iMac. So far so good. Attempt to play an iTunes store purchased tune. Asks for authorization. Enter in my .mac user id and password. Authorization is completed as successful. Attempt to play the same iTunes purchased tune. Again...Asks for authorization. Enter in my .mac user id and password. Authorization is completed as successful. Attempt to play the same iTunes purchased tune. Again...Asks for authorization. Enter in my .mac user id and password. Authorization is completed as successful. Attempt to play the same iTunes purchased tune. Again...
Ok, you get the idea. I also attempted to authorize the entire library. Same results. I currently have two computers authorized: my older iMac and my Windows laptop. When I check my account, it shows "2" for number of computers authorized. For some reason, the systeme tells me authorization for this computer is complete and successful but in reality, it isn't picking up on my new machine.
Ick.
Anyone else have this problem? If so, how did you solve it?
J

Hi Jim,
Perhaps you've solved this problem by now, if so, please let us know how.
I ran into the same loop today. It turns out that I had forgotten that I purchased a song or two with another Apple ID that I had before I signed up for .Mac. I got exactly the same loop behavior you describe when I tried to authorize through my .Mac Apple ID. But, as soon as I remembered and authorized with my old Apple ID, authorization succeeded and my music played!
Does anyone know how to "consolidate" accounts so that I don't have to keep track of my old Apple ID?
Best Cheers,
Chris.

  • Never Ending Authorize loop

I'm now running into the never ending authorization loop.
I've found the KB Article and have followed all of the steps, but am still not able to get passed it.
I am noticing however that there are some discrepancies, even when I attempt to login to this site.
My Apple ID doesn't follow an e-mail address format [email protected] When I go to authorize however, by default, the system puts in the @xxx.com extension. I remove it and the system tells me that the computer is already authorized.
    I'm using Windows7 x64 with iTunes 9.0.2.25 and a 3rd Generation Nano.
I've sent an e-mail in to Apple for guidance, but am looking for any other ideas.

Here is some additional information that I find questionable / lead me to believe that this is a bug in the system.
As I continue to look through the list of files that are "Not Authorized" I find that some of them are files, I didn't purchase through the iTunes store, but rather music that was imported via a CD from my collection.
    What's going on Apple?!?!

  • Stuck in an endless authorization loop...

Just downloaded DEATH RACE 2000 -- a personal favorite -- using iTunes 7. When I try to watch the movie, I get a gray screen and a dialog telling me that this computer is not authorized to play the M4V file... although this Mac IS authorized. OK, no big deal, I'll just play along... eventually, a dialog appears informing me that my Mac is now authorized. However, there's STILL no audio or video, although the progress bar is moving so the movie is supposedly playing.
Close iTunes, open it again, same story.  Even tried running it from the iTunes Movie folder, and the same error occurs.
Is anyone having this same problem with movie downloads?

I am having the same problem...Authorized music plays fine, but no purchased video will play, I go into the endless authorization loop that you speak of.
    Anyone have any ideas?

  • New Computer Stuck in Authorization Loop

I recently bought a new PC and I seem to be stuck in an authorization loop.  I successfully authorized the PC but some purchased songs from my library won't import or play on the new PC.  When I try and play from the shared library I get a pop up to authorize the computer even though it is already authorized.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

imported files and settings from my old Macbook using its hard drive
    Therein lies the glitch.
Reformat your Mac using Lion Recovery
There's a file or setting that was imported that's causing the problem. Better to use your new Mac for a few days to make sure it's stable before importing data from another Mac.

  • TS1389 Stuck in Authorize Loop/  Tried ALL actions in the support docs

There ISNT any SC info folder
But I tried all the other steps.
I am stuck trying to authorize this MBP
Says it IS authorized  2 of 5  then loops back again and wont sync, threatneing to delete my apps
    So I authorize it AGAIN
And Loop it forgets 2 seconds later.
I cant sync and I sure as **** aint gonna delete all these aps
Apple Support on the phone was ******** and didint even send me the right link for help. I found this on google.
    Still NOT helping

Just solved it, at least my loop issue.
Make sure under itunes preferences and store tab that the box that says something like "Show Cloud I tunes purchases" is checked.
Then delete the title, empty trash, and the cloud symbol should come on showing it is available for download.
    Redownload.

  • Bought song won't play, stuck in re-authorization loop

I've tried everything I can think to try. I bought a song on iTunes through my iPhone. It played totally fine, up until when I synced my phone last night (I think that was the moment things changed). Once I did that, if I played it on my phone, it would show it for a second and then skip immediately to the next song. In iTunes on my computer, it said I needed to authorize my computer to play the song. Which it was already authorized to do. Once I entered my password, it would skip the song again and go to the next one on the playlist. I tried the first suggestions in this support topic and nothing changed. I don't seem to have an SC Info folder, so I can't delete that. I deauthorized all computers, then reauthorized this one, and it still won't work. I've restarted, signed out, signed in, even deleted the song completely. When I deleted it, I was annoyed to find it's not in my "Purchased" folder in the iTunes store, as if I never bought it to begin with. Luckily I had a copy on my email and redownloaded it from there, but I'm running into the exact same issues as before with my computer being "not authorized" to play it, even though it is and always has been.
Two weird things: the track is listed as an AAC audio file, whereas songs I've bought on other days in the same manner are listed as Purchased AAC audio files. And weirdest of all... if I preview the track in Finder, I can PLAY it there! ***? How do I get this track to play in iTunes?!

I had this happen when I bought my new computer this December.   After a *lot* of work, I finally got ahold of the correct Apple Support which re-authorized 4 of my protected songs again.    And that appeared to work for a few weeks.
Now they don't play and give errors when I synchronize with my iPad.
If I click on them, to play within iTunes, I get a window saying 'This computer is not authorized to play "House of the Rising Sun".  Would you like to authorize it?'.    I enter my password and am told 'This computer is already authorized.   Including this one, you have authorized 3 out of your available 5.'.
Same problem I had a month ago, which I thought they fixed after talking to a *bunch* of apple support people, and making two fruitless genius bar appointments.

  • Itunes 9.2 serious bug Video purchases  authorization loop and gray screen

I just downloaded 9.2 and now all my seasons pass videos that are being downloaded after the download keep asking for authorization even though the computer is authorized and the message even says your computer is already authorized and then gives me a gray screen I can play these videos on my iphone but no longer on itunes, this is absurd I've alredy called iunes support about this and have not given me any useufl solutions does anyone else have this problem, how can I fix it or did I just lose $100+ of videos for good, I am royally ******.

I lost sleep last night and I am still obsessed with the fact that I downloaded Dexter after a prompt asked me if I wanted the latest I tunes update, 9.2. Beginning of nightmare...Nothing I have done or attempt to do allows me to view my purchase that I Tunes and Apple seems to have no problem authorizing purchase. I have called Apple care with a gent hanging up on me due to me being somewhat flabber-ghasted that no knew about this and after I have dumped the SC in the garbage, changed my password, checked standard box, tried Quick Time and updating that, going in to my original screen name, checking my purchase to make sure purchase name and authorization name match, yada yada yada, this dude was having me re-boot my system, logging out and re-booting, really, no seriously?? That is what I paid $300 for, you gotta be kidding me. He went on to tell me that I would now have to send an email, only way to get in touch with I tunes, no peeps. And they will get back to me in 48 hours. The weekend is gone, gotta go back to work and this is bull that this update has not been cleared of gliches and now my system seems to be corrupted with this update that btw I cannot uninstall, it is a modification, not an installation.
My guess is that this has something to do with Mac Book, Mac OSX 10.5.8 model. Notice that is in common and also has to do with the HD versus Standard purchasing. Notice this wasn't happening before this distinction and price differences. It is so new that when I spoke to a supervisor to get the dude in trouble for hanging up on me, he said it is brand spanking new and he hadn't heard anything yet. I said get ready cuz they are a coming.
I give up, not really, another night of trouble shooting, I hate to give up. But I need my beauty rest. I want my money back and guess next step is the One on one. Back to the store.

  • IPhone/iTunes Authorization Loop

i use my iPhone 3G to make 90% of my iTunes purchases, after loosing everything once i decided to upgrade to the latest version of iTunes-9.1.1(<<< kinda ironic 911...hah) before backing up my iPhone-everything was going well so I plugged the phone in to sync, and I get an error message advising some songs and apps cannot be sent to iTunes because this computer is not authorized-
I authorize the machine, only to have it tell me it is in fact already authorized...
the super terrific part about this- it will not import/sync/back up only a few songs from the past two weeks I bought three more earlier this evening which loaded just fine.
I bought them all using the same iTunes account and I have tried uninstalling and re installing the new version of iTunes, I have trashed the SC Info folder and followed all applicable suggestions from the KB article http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1389
I just want the libraries to match and not have all kinds of warnings fly around when I sync...I have been reading others' questions but none seem to be exactly my same issue....anyone else out there having the same problem....any suggestions?

I was going round and round with the authorization thing. Please authorize, already authorized.... Pulling hair out.. What I found was that I had used multiple accounts in the past for my itunes purchases. I went to Apple password retrieval, https://iforgot.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/DSiForgot.woa/wa, and got new passwords for all my previous itunes accounts. I authorized for each one of them each time it came up, then my iphone synced correctly and uploaded the songs I had purchased through my iphone from itunes to my synced computer.

I downloaded a season pass but I have a popup telling me that I need to authorize my pc. After I authorize it, it tells me that its already authorized. I have deleted the SC folder, deauthorized all other computers, turned off user account controls and even deleted the show and re-downloaded the season. Nothing. Please help.

You said it appears sometimes. Possibly when you play some heavy games and the notebook gets hot???
As feliks said you should use the Toshiba graphic driver because I have heard that this driver was a little bit modified and supports an graphic overheating protection

  • Authorize computer in a loop after upgrading to 7.7.1.11

We have been working with iTunes Store Support for a week, but have not been able to resolve the following issue.
We upgraded to 7.7.1.11 on 8/3, since the upgrade none of the hundreds of songs videos and TVShows purchased and downloaded prior to Sunday 8/3 will play in Itunes or the iPod touch (16Gb with 2.0 software update installed).
When we click on a song, movie or show, we receive the message "This computer is not authorized ...."
We than put in the password and receive the message: "Machine Authorization was Successful", but the songs/videos/shows still don't play. When you click on it again it asked again for authorization.
We were allowed to download a purchase from the weekend again and that works fine with the same account/password information, but previous purchases don't work at all.
We have followed multiple set of instructions received from iTunes Store support and the support website, including:
    1) De-authorizing, re-authorizing
    2) Re-installing iTunes
    3) Removing the SC folder
    4) Re-building the iTunes Library
    5) Re-building iTunes Preferences
    6) Creating a new user acount and installing iTunes
    7) Installing iTunes on a different computer with a different operating system (Windows 2000 instead of XP SP 3)
    8) Re-installed songs from a backup ...
    9) Updating iTunes Store Account Information, as instructed by support.
    10) Scanned for viruses ...
    11) Updated Windows XP ...
    12) Restored iPod Touch software
We have been loyal shareholders and customers to Apple and iTunes and were in the process of purchasing iPhones for the family, but this is becoming very aggravating.
I have never allowed my son to download music from other sources and been giving him an allowance to buy ftom iTunes. We have a lot of money invested in it and would like to see this resolved as soon as possible, but don't know were to turn from here.
    Any suggestions are welcome.

We have this very same problem.
Our family have used iTunes and Apple TV almost exclusively now for at least 6 months buying online media.
We have invested well over $1,200 including an Apple TV, and as of the last update ALL of our content has been locked out.
We can not play any of our Apple TV Content - movies we have purchased, box sets we have downloaded (and only watched half of).
Music we have paid for and downloaded.
All of it is now locked up in this Authorization Loop error.
We have emailed support, and received the "We want your iTunes experience to be the best possible" lip service only and a promise that they are investigating. This is also the THIRD time we have had this problem.
    We have tried the install/re-install;
    The deauthorization/re-authorization;
    Deleting library files;
    Installing iTunes on ANOTHER computer;
    None of it has worked.
Not to mention every time we try one of these crazy time consuming "fixes" the Apple TV deletes all the files and has to re-sync which takes several hours as we have a lot of content.
As of last night we have decided as a family to no longer use any of Apple's online media services.
There are countless other vendors and on demand media services now that it seems pointless and almost diabolical to continue with a company that has so many technical problems - yet pretends it does not.
We were in the process of looking at buying a couple of iPhones and even a Mac laptop. But there is no way we can bury ourselves in deeper with a company that at a whim, can LOCK down all of our content and offer no explanation for it other than they hope we enjoy our iTunes experience.
Well this is a notice that we are most certainly NOT enjoying our iTunes experience and Apple, you have received our very last dollar.
    Regards,

  • Authorization Error Loop

I am now stuck in this loop:
This started after I upgraded to Lion the iphone backs up and syncs contacts, mail, etc. then when it gets to the music and apps, I get this message:
"this computer is no longer authorized to play purchased items that are on the iPhone "Babylon". would you like to authorize this computer for items purchased from the iTunes store? if you do not authorize this computer, 110 items, inlcuding. "xxxx: will be removed from the iPhone."
I click the authorize button and the account dialogue box opens. interestingly, it defaults to a .earthlink account that I havent used in YEARS, and I forgot my password and that email account has been deleted. So I change it to my current itunes account info and enter the correct password. I then get this dialogue:
"this computer is already authorized. including this one, you have authorized 3 computers out of your available 5."
I click ok...and then I am faced with the exact same dialogue box starting with "this computer is no longer authorized to play purchased items that are on the iPhone "Babylon". and the cycle repeats again.
all my music plays on my iphone and my apps work fine. All my music plays on my computer just fine. I haven't synced my iphone in weeks. I did contact apple tech and fro 2 hrs we couldn't get my sync to work. I realize that itunes is looking for me to authorize my .earthlink account but that info is no longer at hand. I did delete the SC folder and still having the problem. I also tried this... http://menoob.com/iphone/itunes-authorization-looping-problem-when-syncing-iphon e. still having the sync issue! Apple for the love of God HELP!!! PLEASE!!!!

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copy of the track and try redownloading a fresh one. See the following document for instructions:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the item, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.

  • ITunes stuck in authorization/payment endless loop

I'm trying to buy stuff on iTunes.  I have a $25 card that I redeemed, and the amount of credit shows up in the upper right hand corner like it's supposed to.  However, when I try to buy a song, iTunes keeps running me through a payment authorization window.  It wants me to charge it to a credit card, and when I click on the option to redeem a card it wants me to put in a new one.
It keeps having me type in my password over and over.  I had this trouble trying to buy an app until I finally gave it a credit card number, and then it finally allowed me to buy an app, even though I had plenty of credit using the gift-type cards.  I still have plenty of credit with the iTunes and App Store cards, why does it want a credit card?  And why isn't it working now?  This is driving me nuts.  -J

    Hello and Wow,
Anyone have any luck with this? I've tried re-installing itunes, de-authorizing and authorizing computer, and finally trying to configure every setting on both my iphone and itunes. Over and over I get the authorization loop. Computer is authorized. When I sync, computer is not authorized. Both Itunes and iphone are up to date. The weird thing about this is it worked fine in December-08. I try to sync and backup once a month but January is all about the loop - out of the blue. The only thing I've done since the last successful sync/backup was to buy a couple of apps in the app store over my iphone which I do all the time. Very frustrated. Not sure I'm a itunes fan anymore. I'm an IT guy and very careful with my equipment/software/hardware and for this to start happening out of the blue points to unstable software/updates/technical group issues. I've searched the internet high and low, is this an issue that Mac needs to publicly come clean on? Wow, I guess I'll just have to be careful until they release a fix. Scary situation to be in.

  • AUTHORIZATION

I have a problem with the authorization of my computer:
I'm signed in in the itunes store, buy a song, but when i want to play it I have to again enter my password. everytime i open and close itunes i have to enter my pasword for every song! don't know how to save my password so my compueter doesn't keep asking for it....does anyone know....

This is happening more and more since iTunes 7, so you're not alone.
That authorization loop is annoying, isn't it?
Here are some steps to try.
    1. Deauthorize, then reauthorize your PC
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1420
    2. Delete the *SC Info folder*. The entire folder, not just the file. It will get rebuilt the next time you start iTunes. Don't forget to restart your PC, as the article says.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1389
    3. Get a free single of the week, which has the latest DRM on it, and play a few seconds of it.
Something else that has been suggested, is to delete one of these problem tracks but DO NOT SEND IT TO THE RECYCLE bin. Then re-add it to Itunes and see if it will play. Just do one track to check this out. Nobody has ever posted back to tell me whether this works.
If you still can't get purchases to play, contact iTS support. Apple needs to get this fixed, and the more people who report it the more notice it will get.

  • Authorization issue - repeating error message

I'd just like to mention that I recently experienced the dreaded authorization loop where iTunes continuously asks for authorization to play certain songs. After exhausting different possibilities to resolve the problem, I tried something different. When iTunes asked for my ID and Password, I reset my password through the "forgot password" button - and then answering the secret question I used when I made my ID. Once that was done, I clicked on the song that activated the authorization error, and entered my new password. This worked for me.
I should note that the ID that was displayed by the authorization error message (before resolving my issue) did not follow the '[email protected]'. The ID field only displayed everything prior to the '@' symbol. I don't know what to make of this, but as I looked at the songs that I wanted to play, and by utilizing the command+i (get info) function for the songs, I noticed that the purchaser ID did not follow the '[email protected]' format either (though all other music I was able to play DID follow this format).
So, I would suggest checking the songs that activate the authorization error, and taking note of the user ID that purchase the song. I suggest putting that ID into the ID field of the error message, resetting the password, and seeing where that leads.
It was a weird situation but I figured it out. Hope this helps someone!

repeating error message: "acl found but not expected" during permissions repair
My iMac is running slow. Processor running all the time. I was told to do permissions repair, so I did that. I get 100's and 100's of "ACL found but not expected" while doing a permissions repair in 'utilities'. It says 1 minute to complete but runs for a half hour. When it finally completes, I can restart the permissions repair again and it starts all over with same endless messages. Even though its says 'repaired', these ACL issues keep coming.
ACLs are just junk left over from previously installed OSXs. Just ignore. They have no impact.
Describe your exact issue and computer specs and Linc may run you through a series of tests which may well help you find the problem to your issues. I agree, Permissions repair is rarely required.
