Authorization nightmare

I bought the new intel iMac in February. Running iTunes 6.0.4, and it will not play my purchased music. I try to authorize my computer, and I get the same error for the past two weeks: "We could not complete your Music Store request. There is not enough memory available". I also authorized five computers to play music. I only have two computers and two iTunes accounts.
I have tried to authorize my account so many times, I have to have my authorizations wiped out TWICE now in the last TWO WEEKS. I have emailed for help, but it has not helpful. They only sent me links to the info I already new about authorizing my computer and they had to reset my authorizations to zero again.
I have run a disk utility to fix the permissions and that worked only once.
Can someone please help? I want to purchase more music, but will not give them any more money until the issue is resolved.

That's why I suggested to try to de-authorize all your computers one by one and after that authorize your 5 'favorite' computers again.
If you want to play the same purchased song on more than 5 computers, you could purchase it again, using another (new?) account.
I have no experience with this, but these are my thoughts about it:
When you buy a song, using account A, you can authorize up to 5 computers to play this song and all songs bought with account A.
Buying the same song with account B should allow you to play that song and all songs bought with account B to play on another 5 computers.
This method involves some bookkeeping, but allows you to play the same purchased song on more than 5 computers.
It's far from ideal and in your situation it would be nice to be able to purchase additional authorizations. The current deals between the right holders and the iTMS just don't allow that.

P.S. You can check which account was used when purchasing a song by 'Get Info'. The 'Summary' will show who purchased it and what account was used.

Upgraded to v7.0.1.8 and can no longer play or download purchased music

I upgraded my software from a later version of v6 (6.9, I think). Since then, I have been unable to access my purchased music. I had purchased the music with a previous email address, which I updated using the site instructions. My account in iTunes is the same as always, my number of authorized computers the same, this computer is authorized. However, when I try to play a purchased song, I get a warning that I cannot play it because my computer is not authorized. The login popup comes up with my old account information. I did try using that, but of course, as that account now exists under the new email address, it is not a valid id. I use the new email address and login and am told that I am now authorized. When I click the song again, I get the same thing. I've authorized myself to play this song (and several others, to see if I got a different result) at least 10 times now and it still won't play. All that happens is that I am taken through the authorization process over and over.
Additionally, I have purchased three albums that will not download. I get an error -50 and am beginning to believe that they are related to this authorization nightmare. Please explain what I can do to fix this.

It gets even better... thought I'd add another audible book to my iPod so I could continue on the series I'm listening to. As soon as syncronization started, all my content on the iPod started disappearing. At first, I didn't figure out what was happening. By the time I did, I only had 4GB left of the 35GB that had been on the iPod. Now, I'm really irritated with you and your half baked software!!!!!
I've dropped back to v7.0.0.70, and everything is working again. It's 2am and if I were billing you time, I'd be making out very well now. Whatever happened to software quality assurance? There is an obvious breakdown in the newest iteration of iTunes. My current 'fix' is to drop back to a previous version until you all get a working 'current' version...but that's not really a fix. Please let me know if you have a real solution or not.

Imovie and Idvd errors from Itunes

since the recent Itunes 7.3 update I have problems with using my songs in Imovie and Idvd - I get an error message that my machine is not authorized. I have re-authoriezed, etc , etc ever time and the icessant message comes up and my DVD has no sound

I have this same exact problem and applecare claims to not be able to help . .. referred me to email itunes. . . who said they only handle billing and such issues and said to come here.
Well that does little to help. I finished a great vacation imovie last week with music and all. Worked great as always. I did not burn the DVDs for family because I was waiting to add a few more pictures. Then there was an itunes update. I did it. . . got the pics added the next day . . . and all of the sudden. . . no music and the dang authorization nightmare.
I am just a bit relieved that it is not just me, but it's awful just the same. Had to be the update. My music plays fine on itunes and burns CDs. . . but no on the imovie and forget idvd then.
I am VERY frustrated and disppointed and looking everywhere for answers or resoluation.
Now I have a project with no music. itunes and imovie make mac for us.
Any help is greatly welcomed and will be appreciated.

Can I upgrade iOS and still retain *everything*, if I didn't authorize Apple ID and didn'nor had I performed a manual backup?

I am an IT guy here helping 10+ iPad and iPhone users upgrading to iOS 5. I have finished the first two devices, by the following steps:
Obtain the user's Apple ID and password
Get to a clean computer (precisely, logon to a clean profile)
Authorize the user's ID in iTunes
Transfer purchases (then it will download all installed apps)
Maannuly perform a backup (1), just in case.
Perform iOS5 update following the standard procedure.
Then during the process, iTunes backs up the device again (I am not sure if this backup (2) has any different from the one that I've done manually), but after everything is done, all apps with their data, account setting, camera roll, even the placing of app icons seemed to be restored to the updated device 100% successfully.
Deauthorize Apple ID. "Next one please."
THAT WAS VERY TIME CONSUMING!!
My question is, what will happen if I upgrade a device without doing step 1 through 5 first ? Will backup (2) still backs up everything and restore it,although the user's ID was not authorized in this copy of iTunes?
If this works then it wil save me a lot of time. I can't risk to test it because if it doesn't work, I won't have a good backup to restore the user's data.
(PS) If you asked me why don't I do this on each user's computer? The reason is because some of them do not have a computer, and for those who does have computer, most of them do not have iTunes installed.

In summary, there is no way, for me to fully restore all apps that my users had installed (purchased / free), without authorizing their Apple ID's to iTunes on the computer which I am using to perform the iOS upgrade for them ?
However, I found out it is possible that my nightmare will end after all devices get upgraded to iOS5. Through some tests that I did, I found an interesting fact:
- Backup to iTunes:
You need to authorize every single Apple ID on iTunes, so it can back up apps and restore for you.
- Backup to iCloud:
Since there is no action of authorizing, it will backup and restore all of your apps, whcih were installed by different Apple ID, or totally different than the ID of iCloud account.
*I tested this scenario by backing up a device with only 2 apps installed by 2 diffrent Apple ID's (of course, one of them is used as iCloud account to back up), this device has never been connected to iTunes on a computer, I performed a backup to cloud, wipe the device, restore from the cloud, and both apps, purchased by different Apple ID's, were restored!
But I need to run more tests and confirm that it works.

It wasn't every song, just a few of them. A nightmare to figure out what to do, but it was solved upon reboot.

Using Page Text Item in an Authorization Scheme

I will be having a text item is every page say, Px_RESP_ID (hidden and its value set in an earlier page), and want to use its value in an authorization scheme to verify if the user has an access to the page.
I'm using the following SQL in the authorization scheme -

AFAIK an application item, or maybe a page 0 item, is the only way to do this (as those items effectively exist across all pages of an application). Unfortunately since authorization schemes are application-level, you can't really effectively reference page items at runtime since you aren't necessarily on that page.
The other option is an ugly one. Instead of creating one auth scheme (e.g.: "user_has_whatever_authority"), create one for every page (e.g.: "user_has_whatever_authority_1", "user_has_whatever_authority_2", etc.) and attach each auth scheme to each page by matching up the number in the name with the page. But this is a maintenance nightmare and terrible style IMHO, but it'll work. Your colleagues will hate you for it when you're gone though.

(1) In one of your replies to my queries, you said that page authorization and permissions (the way it is available now in a file based security where one can go to Edit Authorization on each page and grant read/write) is not available in a J2EE Container managed Security with database schema table based security provider that used custom LoginModules till JDev 11. Till then, is there an alternative way?
(2) Is a tool of some sort in the works for page authorization that can be given to customers? Otherwise it will be nightmare if customers call in and say they want to change authorizations every second and one has to go to JDeveloper to manually check the checkboxes on the pages from "Edit Authorization" and deliver another release after changes.
(3) Lastly, from your replies, it looks like LoginModules are powerful. You mentioned that you can write one to access multiple database connections to access different tables in different schema etc. is there a link to a how-to that addresses this? (Something that may apply to accessing APPLICATION_USERS in one schema and APPLICATION_ROLES and all the SRDemo tables (as a test case)in another schema. I recall it being there somewhere. I want to get "very" familiar with it. By the way, your DBTableOraDataSourcesLoginModule is working very well with the tables in my Oracle JExpress database. Thanks...

My computer wants me to authorize even though it's authorized; can't play my music

I'm using a mac mini with Lion 7.1. Suddenly, tunes I've been playing for years won't play. They say to authorize my computer, I authorize it and they still won't play. It's not all songs, just some I bought years ago. Songs before and after play fine.
HELP.

And now, the Apple Support person who said he was going to call me, didn't. He won't return my emails. I'm out a couple of hundred dollars of purchased music I was able to play until recently.
I've authorized, unauthorized … sent in every computer serial number I used to purchase music and the music gets stuck in a loop that asks me to authorize something that's already authorized. This is obviously an Apple CRM nightmare that iTunes simply refuses to fix.
I also have hours of my valuable time gone dealing with Apple's mess. I really need help and Apple is turning a blind eye.
Why would I ever buy any music from iTunes again? I've never had this issue with Amazon or CD Baby.
Can someone help me, or will I just get ignored.

HR Authorizations-Country specific

Hi All,
Can you please let me know the best way to restrict HR users to process or view data specfic to a country. A HR user or manager in US should only be able to see data of US employees, and similaryly for all other countries.
I know I can use the Personnel Areas (which are country specific) in P_ORGIN to do this restriction, but this will end up in creating huge number of roles (approx 75 countries). If we have 10 roles and each role has to be country specific then we will end up with 750 roles which is a maintenance nightmare.
Can you please suggest any alternate approaches?

I feel you will have to create the desired no. of roles.
Only thing you can do is to create a global(GL) role., e.g. ZtestGL role which contains all the authorizations which have to be present with other 75 roles. Only difference can be the org level values which can be '*' for this role.
Create rest of the other country's role(affiliate roles) by deriving from this GL role. Only thing you need to change is org level values in the country's role keeping the other authorizations common.
In all you may have to create 10 GL roles, and it won't take too much of time in creating other roles by deriving them from the GL role.
Don't give GL role to any country. Keep it for reference and for further creation of other country roles(in future).

Variable Authorizations for Cost elements (K_REPO_CCA)

I have a doubt regarding the posible options for an authorization on object K_REPO_CCA. Our system is R/3 version 5.0. Is it possible to create a variable, "$COST_ELEMENT" for example, and fill the values dinamically by a user_exit or maybe a z-program that reads in a Z-table??
Did you know if this is possible?? If yes, do you know the user-exit??

This sounds like exactly what we need at our organisation. We are a large company with around 40000 staff and have the following business requirement.
- Cost centre reporting is expected to be hierarchical in nature but current Cost Centre structure in Australia is flat in structure.[/li]
- Natural hierarchies already exist within the NAB by organisational structure: Total Company, Business, Zone, Region, Area and Branch.
- As a high level requirement, cost centre data should only be available to the manager of the organisational unit that they are managing and any lower level organisational units. Managers should only be able to view their organisational unit costs or lower organisational unit costs. They should not be able to view cost centre data across structures (peer organisational units) or higher levels of responsibilities (parent organisational units).
- The ability to access cost centre reporting data should take into account HR delegations and substitution processes. This also needs to take into account the granting of the correct authority to the delegated person to run reports.
- One possible option is to utilise the A250 Cost Centre Manager relationship in SAP to facilitate the security for cost centre reports.
I will be handling these requirements from a security perspective and would liike to achieve this without creating hundreds of roles and a maintenance nightmare.
A finance version of structural authorisations would be good

Authorization -- Roles

We are moving our applicaiton from Oracle Forms to Apex. I am basically a forms developer and I didnt understand the authorization/roles in Apex.
For eg in our database we have 2 roles app_lookup ( privs - insert,update, delete, select) and app_guest( privs select) . And we use the database authentication for forms. If we have 2 end users Super with role app_lookup and operator with role app_guest, and if I want to implement the database role, how can it be done in Apex.
End user Super ( with all privs) need to update/delete/insert/select in apex
End user Operator( with only priv select) need to select particular table/pages in apex.
Could someone throw lights on how this can be done in Apex.

Why do I think Database Authentication is a dying trend?
- LDAP directories were designed from the ground-up to store information like Authentication and Authorization data.
- Almost every technology out there can use LDAP as an Authentication source.
- There are only a few technologies that can use the DB for an authentication source. What if your users don't want to have a separate username / password for their APEX apps than their email account? You're out of luck.
- Databases were never designed as user repositories. It's a square peg in a round hole.
- Mixing data schemas and user accounts in a database is mess to maintain. It's often difficult to tell them apart. Which ones contain sensitive data, which ones are just users?
- There are only a few attributes that you can store in a database "user". If you want to store phone, email, certificate, etc, you have to create your tables for it.
- If end users have accounts in a database, it's that much easier for them to connect with third-party tools and start poking around.
- There is no concept of delegated administration with a database. How do you give someone the ability to manage all users in a particular group?
- Managing roles and privs for thousands of database user accounts is a nightmare. It's much easier in a web environment to assign select / execute privs to the account used by the web application, vs all of the users accessing the application.
- Onboarding / off-boarding / auditing accounts scattered throughout a bunch of databases is impossible vs creating / deleting / auditing all accounts and groups (roles) in a single LDAP directory.
I'm probably missing a lot of points here, so I may ask someone one the Identity Management side of things to chime-in.

Itunes 9.2 serious bug Video purchases authorization loop and gray screen

I just downloaded 9.2 and now all my seasons pass videos that are being downloaded after the download keep asking for authorization even though the computer is authorized and the message even says your computer is already authorized and then gives me a gray screen I can play these videos on my iphone but no longer on itunes, this is absurd I've alredy called iunes support about this and have not given me any useufl solutions does anyone else have this problem, how can I fix it or did I just lose $100+ of videos for good, I am royally ******.

I lost sleep last night and I am still obsessed with the fact that I downloaded Dexter after a prompt asked me if I wanted the latest I tunes update, 9.2. Beginning of nightmare...Nothing I have done or attempt to do allows me to view my purchase that I Tunes and Apple seems to have no problem authorizing purchase. I have called Apple care with a gent hanging up on me due to me being somewhat flabber-ghasted that no knew about this and after I have dumped the SC in the garbage, changed my password, checked standard box, tried Quick Time and updating that, going in to my original screen name, checking my purchase to make sure purchase name and authorization name match, yada yada yada, this dude was having me re-boot my system, logging out and re-booting, really, no seriously?? That is what I paid $300 for, you gotta be kidding me. He went on to tell me that I would now have to send an email, only way to get in touch with I tunes, no peeps. And they will get back to me in 48 hours. The weekend is gone, gotta go back to work and this is bull that this update has not been cleared of gliches and now my system seems to be corrupted with this update that btw I cannot uninstall, it is a modification, not an installation.
My guess is that this has something to do with Mac Book, Mac OSX 10.5.8 model. Notice that is in common and also has to do with the HD versus Standard purchasing. Notice this wasn't happening before this distinction and price differences. It is so new that when I spoke to a supervisor to get the dude in trouble for hanging up on me, he said it is brand spanking new and he hadn't heard anything yet. I said get ready cuz they are a coming.
I give up, not really, another night of trouble shooting, I hate to give up. But I need my beauty rest. I want my money back and guess next step is the One on one. Back to the store.

I can not find in iTunes where to choose "Authorize This Computer"?

My computer crashed. Technical guys rescued most of content including iTunes library. I had 4 computers authorized. I can pull up my library of music but can't add to the library because I cannot have my new computer authorized by following the instruction given by iTunes. My computer: PC Windows 8.
Windows 8 has been a nightmare, but I'm learning.

In iTunes you use the Authorize This Computer or De-authorize This Computer option under the Store menu in iTunes' menubar.
For Windows use the ALT-S keys to access it. Or turn on Windows 7 and 8 iTunes menus: iTunes- Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7.

EEEgads, I have used ITUNES for my Ipod Shuffle for years and now it is a nightmare with 11.0, I can't find my Ipod when I connect to Itunes, it is a new Win 7 PC. It used to show up on left side and I would slide podcasts right over to it for years,

You need to "authorize" the Mac.
Launch iTunes on the Mac then from the iTunes menu bar top of your screen click Store > Authorize This Computer.
Now, using the same Apple ID as you used to purchased iTunes media originally, you should be able to sync all your content.

CHANGING ITUNES AUTHORIZATION DETAILS

Forgive me if this has been answered elsewhere - I have looked but cant seem to find a solution.
I have a load of music that was purchased on our itunes business account by mistake.
I had logged in to the account to purchase some music for business and forgotten to change back to my personal account.
I then merrily went ahead buying music for personal use for a few months before realising it was all on the wrong account.
Now here's the issue -
I have now changed my personal Mac.
I can't play the music that was authorized on the other account.
I don't want to authorize my home machine as one of the 5 computers allowed on the business account.
I am very happy to remove access to these tracks from the business account so they only play on my home computer.
But I cant find any way to switch the track authorization to another account.
Please understand - this is NOT about authorizing my home machine on the business account. This is about allowing these tracks to play from my personal account.
Does anyone have a solution to this?

Its all crazy to me - never had this problem with CD's
Problem I have now is - thousands of tracks - no idea which ones work.
So I have to go through manually and find out which ones work.....
