Authorize a Computer for Family Sharing - Is It Possible?

For the past seven years or so my family and I have been using the same AppleID for all of our purchases, and all of our computers are authorized with Home Sharing to one account. With the creation of the Family Sharing option - and issues we've been having with all of us using the same iCloud/AppleID - we're wanting to set it up, but my concern is with the content we've already downloaded. When I change the AppleID on my phone to my new one and then add myself to the Family Sharing Account, will I have to redownload all the music and apps I've already downloaded to my phone? Will I have to deauthorize my computer from the iTunes account that has all of the purchased content on it, and reauthorize it with my new account in order to get my content to sync to my phone? If I reauthorize my computer to an AppleID on the Family Sharing account, will all of the content available within the Family Sharing account be made available on my computer? I haven't been able to find the answer to any of these questions in the information archives Apple has posted. Has anyone done what I'm asking about and can let me know what happens?
For reference, I have an iPhone 6 running iOS 8, and an HP Notebook running Windows 8.1 and the latest version of iTunes.

At this point, this only works through Notifications on the Mac and iPad:
Request and make purchases with Ask to Buy - Apple Support
Maybe using the Notification Center on your Mac is a good alternative for using e-mail.

Yes, adding this new AppleID to family sharing will add this stuff to their devices.

  • I'm getting this error message  "This computer is no longer authorized to play purchased items that are on the iPod '___'s iPod.' Would you like to authorize this computer for items purchased from the iTunes Store?" I have authorized the computer.

I just purchased songs on itunes, I can play them on my windows 7, but when I try to sync the ipod, I get the error "This computer is no longer authorized to play purchased items on "Stephanie's ipod" Would you like to authorize this computer for purchases from the itunes store.  When I authorize it, it says it is already authorized. Then the process starts all over again. Help.

You can't change the Apple ID that the Authorize dialog comes up with by default. It's showing you that Apple ID for a reason: it means that the items you want to play were purchased using that Apple ID and therefore you need to authorize your computer with that Apple ID. Changing the Apple ID given completely defeats the entire purpose.
If you don't know the password to the given Apple ID, then you will no longer be able to play those items.

  • HT1386 Hello, When trying to sync, I get the following message.  This computer is no longer authorized for apps that are installed on the iPhone "Terri George's iPhone". Would you like to authorize this computer for items purchased from the iTunes Store?

while trying to sync with my iphone I recieve the message: This computer is no longer authorized for apps that are installed on the iPhone “Terri George’s iPhone”. Would you like to authorize this computer for items purchased from the iTunes Store?  When I put in my password and hit authorize, I get a message telling me there was an unknown error (-50).  Would love to sync today.  Any help would be appreciated.

The -50 error is documented in this article:
iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting
    Here is a synopsis:
    Error 13, 14, 35 and 50 (or -50)
These errors are typically resolved by performing one or more of the steps listed below:
Perform USB isolation troubleshooting, including trying a different USB port directly on the computer. See the advanced steps below for USB troubleshooting.
Put a USB 2.0 hub between the device and the computer.
    Try a different USB 30-pin dock-connector cable.
    Eliminate third-party security software conflicts.
There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting one or more TcpWindowSize entries into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause this error. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet-size modification for assistance. Or, follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to reset the packet size back to the default for Windows.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, bypassing any routers, hubs, or switches. You may need to restart your computer and modem to get online.
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.

Windows: How to Authorize or Deauthorize iTunes | PCWorld.
In iTunes you use the Authorize This Computer or De-authorize This Computer option under the Store menu in iTunes' menubar. For Windows use the ALT-S keys to access it. Or turn on Windows 7 and 8 iTunes menus: iTunes- Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7.
More On De-authorizing Computers (contributed by user John Galt)
You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
      1. Open iTunes on a computer
      2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
      3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
      4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
      5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.

  • Cannot Authorize My Computer for iTunes

Hello, I hope you are well.
I am running Windows 7 and have been using iTunes on this computer for about two years. About two weeks ago, all of the songs I have purchased from iTunes (a few hundred) could not be played because this computer is no longer authorized for some reason. When I check my account, there is only one computer authorized to play the songs, which is the computer I am on.
Whenever I start up iTunes, it says that "This computer is no longer authorized to play purchased items that are on the iPod "Victor's iPod". Would you like to authorize this computer for items purchased from the iTunes Store?" I, of course, try to authorize it, but after entering my username and password (both of which I am completely certain is correct), I get the message "We could not complete your iTunes store request. An unknown error occurred (-42408)."
I have tried every day for the last two weeks using four different Internet connections. Once, and only once, I actually didn't get that message, so I thought my problems had disappeared. However, the next time I plugged in my iPod and started up iTunes again, the same issue returned.
I have spent at least four hours searching for answers in this forum and on Google.com, and have tried approximately 14 suggestions, from minor ones to major ones. Unfortunately, it looks like there are thousands of people with this exact same issue, and although some suggestions have worked for some, a lot of people are still experiencing problems.
Any thoughts on what I can do? Thanks.

    Eject your ipod in itunes.
    Then uncheck this box
the itunes menu > Devices tab
"Prevent ipods and iphones from syncing automatically"
Restart itunes, connect your ipod, and press the sync button.
This helped someone else with the 42408 error:
