Authorize This Computer - old purchase
I bought the audio book Harry Potter: Sorcerer's Stone (Book 1) back in 2009. I wanted to listen to it again and now getting a new message:
This computer is not authorized to play "Happy Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Part 1 of 4." Would you like to authorize it?
OK I've tried to authorize computer. which states computer is already authorized.
Then I've de-authorized all computers from my account and authorized just this one computer since this is my only computer I use with my iTunes ID
After all this, I'm still getting the same message. What do I do now? Fingers crossed this purchase isn't lost since it's no longer available in the iTunes Store.
Oh I've bought the whole books series from the store (except book#7) and all the others work just not the first one....

iTunes application window (not Finder or a browser) > menus at top > Store menu > drag down to Authorize This Computer. (In earlier versions of iTunes access this option from the Advanced menu). Step-by-step instructions - https://discussions.apple.com/message/16569470

TS1389 Need to authorize this computer already purchased songs
Need an authorization for this computer already purchased songs?
You can authorise your account via the Store > Authorise This Computer menu option - if you are using a PC and the menus aren't showing at the top of iTunes then control-B should get them to show.

I just purchased songs on itunes, I can play them on my windows 7, but when I try to sync the ipod, I get the error "This computer is no longer authorized to play purchased items on "Stephanie's ipod" Would you like to authorize this computer for purchases from the itunes store. When I authorize it, it says it is already authorized. Then the process starts all over again. Help.
You can't change the Apple ID that the Authorize dialog comes up with by default. It's showing you that Apple ID for a reason: it means that the items you want to play were purchased using that Apple ID and therefore you need to authorize your computer with that Apple ID. Changing the Apple ID given completely defeats the entire purpose.
If you don't know the password to the given Apple ID, then you will no longer be able to play those items. -
When I try to play an itunes purchased movie it says I have to authorize this computer. When I put in my log in information it says this computer is already authorized and will still not play the move. I have tried to deauthorize and reauthorize this computer, delete and reinstall itunes and Quicktime and nothing works; the purchased movies still will not play
I'm having the same problem on my new iMac. First it tells me it's not authorized to play the songs, then when I enter my password, it tells me it's already authorized, but still won't play them. I tried deleting a song and going to the store to redownload it and got charged for it! I've got hundreds of songs, so that's not going to be an option.
In addition, I have quite a few songs from a very old Apple ID, one I forgot I even had, I have no idea what the password was and no way to have the system send me a new password because I no longer have access to that email account.
The Mac I just "retired" could play all the songs in my catalog just fine. This new one won't play the majority of them.

I just downloaded iTunes on my new PC and all the music that I have purchased through ITunes that was backed up on the cloud won't play. It is telling me I must authorize this computer before it can play pre purchased music. how do I authorize my computer to play this music?
Thank you for any assistance.Tigon's already got you covered here. But I'll chime in with some English localisation advice.
There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Then you'll find the control in the Store menu:
Alternatively, if you don't want to bring up the menu bar, it's still possible to get into the authorise controls via nested menus accessible from the wee boxy icon. Here's a screenshot of where to find them: -
I am trying to downloadapps onto the iPad we just purchased, and it keeps telling me that I need to authorize my computer. I go ahead and authorize by going into iTunes/store/authorize computer, I verify the information that is given. I go back and try to redownload the apps and I get the same exact message, this computer is not authorized for this device. What am I doing wrong?
I have been trying to work through this problem by myself and have so far downloaded the most current version of iTunes. Frome there when it tells me I have to authorize this computer, I had to not put in the iPad information, I had to authorize with my current iTunes information, and any iPad or iPod, iPhone information. I have several people in the family that have different accounts, so I had to authorize each and every individual account because I didnt know which apps or music was purchased under which user. Hope this helps others.... Good luck!!

I just downloaded itunes onto my new laptop and I am trying to burn songs onto a cd that I had purchased previously and I am getting an error message that states I must authorize this computer. What does that mean?
If the computer's running Mac OS X, move the cursor to the very top of the computer's screen, click on Store, and choose Authorize this Computer.
If the computer's running Windows, press the Alt and S keys and choose Authorize this Computer, or click here, follow the instructions, click on Store in the menu bar, and choose Authorize this Computer.

while trying to sync with my iphone I recieve the message: This computer is no longer authorized for apps that are installed on the iPhone “Terri George’s iPhone”. Would you like to authorize this computer for items purchased from the iTunes Store? When I put in my password and hit authorize, I get a message telling me there was an unknown error (-50). Would love to sync today. Any help would be appreciated.
The -50 error is documented in this article:
iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting
Here is a synopsis:
Error 13, 14, 35 and 50 (or -50)
These errors are typically resolved by performing one or more of the steps listed below:
Perform USB isolation troubleshooting, including trying a different USB port directly on the computer. See the advanced steps below for USB troubleshooting.
Put a USB 2.0 hub between the device and the computer.
Try a different USB 30-pin dock-connector cable.
Eliminate third-party security software conflicts.
There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting one or more TcpWindowSize entries into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause this error. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet-size modification for assistance. Or, follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to reset the packet size back to the default for Windows.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, bypassing any routers, hubs, or switches. You may need to restart your computer and modem to get online.
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network. -

If you do not authorize this computer, 117 songs, including “Der Kommissar”, will be removed from the iPod.

I purchased songs that are now labeled as "not authorized on this computer" and won't be sync'd to my iPod. I then go to the store icon, click on authorize this computer and am told that it is already authorized. I have another 169 or so songs I have purchased and have no problem with those. Anyone know what might be happening? I'm not really a "technocrat" so I hope there is an easy answer.
philfrompittsboroRead the various Knowledge Base Articles on deauthorization & authorization. One of them should solve your problem.
