Authorized macbook no longer authorized

Hi There:
I had to send in my Macbook for service and came back wiped out. I had backed up some important files and my music library on my ipod in an external HD mode type of thing. Now I put my music back on my computer and then tried to put it back on my ipod in playable mode. It says that several itunes boughten titles cannot be coped because the computer is not authorized to play them. When I try to authorize my laptop, it says that I have already authorized 5 computers. I do not even own 5 computers to authorize. Someone help...
Thanks

Hi
I'm having the same problem as above but when I try to deauthorize all computers it tells me that I can only do it once a year and i have to wait until august. Is There anyway to circumvent this because i currently can;t listen to any of my music or watch any of my videos.

  • Macbook no longer seeing external hard drive

I have an Intel Macbook running 10.6.7.  Yesterday I had two USB devices plugged in, one of them being my external hard drive.  I started to unplug the hard drive by accident and quickly plugged it back in.  However, I think this has now resulted in my Macbook no longer recognizing that device.  I have turned the computer off with the device unplugged then turned it back on and plugged it in again, but it still doesn't see that drive.  I've also tried changing ports, which didn't help, and the computer is able to see other devices using both ports.  Any help?

Unplugging the hard drive itself from its power source (it's one that needs to be plugged into a wall outlet) solved the issue.

  • MacBook no longer goes to sleep automatically

I asked the question in the Mac Pro forum by mistake.. Hopefully I can get some input here?
My MacBook no longer goes to sleep automatically after the 'Computer Sleep' period has elapsed and without me using it. I can however make the MacBook go to sleep by using a sleep command from the menu or the one on the logon screen, as well ask closing the lid.
I have tried hard to find out what the problem is, but to no avail
    1. I have reset the NVRam
    2. I have reset the SMC
    3. I have deleted the sleepimage cache
    A. I have turned off 'Wake for Network Access'
    B. I have a Magic Mouse, but have turned off 'allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer.
My MacBook won't sleep even if I close all programs beforehand.
These are the products that I have an start up:
    itunes helper
    radioshift helper
    colormunki
    media (mounted volume)
    skype
No one else uses my MacBook
I don't have any sharing services enabled that I am aware of. In any case no one would be accessing my MacBook from any other networked machine.
Time Machine is enabled and writes to a Netgear NV+
I have a similar problem with my Mac Mini. Can anyone help me analyse what is happening?
    Thanks for your help

Hi there, It's a very common problem. Some people seem to have solved the problem by checking Activity Monitor to see if there are any messages that may help identify if a piece of software is preventing the system from entering a sleep state. I did this and realised my external HD software was preventing the system from sleeping. Now my MBP 15" i5 predictably sleeps and my battery life is extended.
There is a lot of good advice here:--->>

  • Macbook no longer recognizes my midi keyboard

Hello folks. I'm having this problem where my macbook no longer recognizes my midi keyboard (M-Audio Radium 61.) I've had it working fine in the past through this midi to usb converter, and now the usb converter still lights up and shows data flowing when I have it plugged in, but for some reason the computer just doesn't seem to see it. The macbook also doesn't see this aggregate device I had working the other day too. But it sees other aggregate devices that are made up of the same outboard audio interfaces I have. Sunday was the first time I had my whole setup working with the keyboard running into Reason, out to Ardour via Jackpilot and out through my audio interface via the aggregate device (which is actually just made up of the inputs and outputs of my M-Audio FastTrack Pro because for some reason the computer sees them as separate devices... different point of contention...) Anyway, so now today was the first time I tried to set it all up the same way again since Sunday and I can't get them working. Any thoughts?

All of a sudden my macbook no longer sends anything through the built in optical output. Analog audio works just fine but it doesn't seem to recognize the optical cable anymore. It worked fine earlier this week, but now somehow it's dead. Theres no light from the cable and in the audio pref pane it says it's outputting through headphones and there obviously is no sound.
Does anybody know anything about this problem? I have never had problems with optical output before so I'm clueless.

  • Brand new MacBook no longer working

I just got my gf a brand new Macbook Pro w/ Retina about 2 weeks ago. She's barely been on it, but it's been working fine during the few times she has been on it.
Starting yesterday, she noticed that she couldn't even boot log in because it would keep bringing her to a screen where it shows a disk, and it would basically freeze on her there. The only few things that she's done since she had it was set up her Apple ID and browse the Internet for the most part. I've installed Microsoft Office and that's the only thing that's been installed thus far.
Here's where I'm at now though. I've tried rebooting the MacBook Pro into OS X Recovery, wiped the HD using Disk Utility, and tried reinstalling Mavericks. Now it's giving me the "Install Failed. OS X could not be installed on your computer" error.
Not sure where to go from here, and I really don't feel up to going to the one and only Apple Store nearby, considering it's always a little aggravating to get in and out of that area.
Some other people who experienced this issue talk about a default installation DVD that came with their MacBook, but I've just bought 2 MacBook Pros and neither one of them came with a DVD. I don't even know why it would, considering there's no DVD drive. So what the ****?

    Welcome.
    1) Apple Support Communities are user-to-user support forums, not official Apple Support. It's late on a Friday night/early on a Saturday morning in North America, where many of the most dedicated ASC patrons reside. Many are off-line, doing something else, or asleep. If no one viewing the forums reads your post and has any suggestions, then you won't get any answers.
    2) You've posted in the OS X Mavericks forum. That's not necessarily the best place for posting a request for help concerning what appears to me to be a hardware (hard drive/SSD) problem on your MacBook Pro Retina. MacBook Pro would be a better choice.
    3) Based upon your diagnosis and actions already, I doubt there is anything anyone here can do to fix your computer. Since it's relatively new, use the warranty. If you're in the US, and still within the first 14 days, you can even return the computer for a full refund. You're still covered under the initial 90-days of free phone support too, so try that first, if you're not near an Apple Store. http://www.apple.com/support/contact/ Or click on the Contact Us link at the bottom of any Apple Support Community page.  Or just take it to an Apple Store or other Apple-authorized repair facility.
    4)  I can't speak for everyone here, but I scan the forums for new unanswered posts, in an attempt to offer assistance, so I rarely bother to read the new messages that already have responses, especially multiple responses, unless it's a request where I might have specialized knowledge of the OS, the program,  or the specific hardware. Because you've self-replied several times in the same thread, I think some people (far better qualified to offer assistance on your specific issues) here would assume that you've already gotten several replies.

  • I'd love some help trying to figure out why my 2008 MacBook no longer recognizes my external drive and now is not downloading photos from my iphone....?

After many years of having no problems at all on my Macbook, I recently figured I should finally upgrade my OS. I did that about three weeks ago, updating to Snow Leopard (10.6.8). I used Time Machine at least once after the OS upgrade but now Time Machine no longer recognizes the external drive I have used for all these years to back up. The MacBook does not "see" it. (Disk Utility does however.) The computer then also stopped recognizing another La Cie back-up that I have and now... my iPhone cannot download photos? Yikes.
I have, of course, shut down numerous times, used different cables (that worked for some) and the two USB drives. I even used a firewire. Nothing worked. I also tried to "Repair disk" on Disk Utility. It didn't work either, giving me an error (that I didn't save, sorry).
I read many other discussions on the file format of the external drive and of course I'd be happy to reformat the external drives--however, it is obviously a tad nerve-wracking to reformat drives before having an accessible back-up. Suggestions? I do not remember what file format they have but am pretty sure it's not the Mac file system someone mentioned. The drives are a 2009 WD "My Passport Elite" and La Cie 2007 d2 Quadra,
In terms of other hardware available, we do have another MacBook Air but it has  started rejecting both drives as well (without the Snow Leopard upgrade). We have an old Dell but it wouldn't have the disk space to help out much.
Any thoughts on the process involved would be welcome.  Any ideas on the iPhone rejection would be helpful as well! It is a 30gig iPhone 4 that has 20 or so gigs free (not clear as iTunes says that there are abour 18 Gigs on the phone but 24 free gigs? I may be bad at math but that's 40 gigs...).
I am checking out iCloud but apparently there are only 55 gigs available?
Will be glad to hear any thoughts. Thanks!

    Good afternoon Lyssa,
Phew. First of all, thanks in advance...these blogs are always comforting help!
So, to answer your questions: For the age of the hard drive.Well, I added memory a couple of years ago (RAM and hard drive). Being a mom leads me to eat up a fair amount of gigs with photos of my kids and, in fact, I think I entirely replaced the original drive, so it is a couple years younger than 2008 since I did that in March 2010. If there is some way to verify that (whether or not I replaced the entire drive), I'm all ears. I have 311 Gigs free, so it is not a space issue. I verified the startup disk on Disk Utilityand nothing showed up.
    Question 1- What formats...
The La Cie is format Windows NT Filesystem 3G ....At the time that I bought it I was still using a PC as well as a Mac and was told by afriend to use this format...
The WD is Mac OS Extended (Journaled). I again tried to repair the WD last night and this is the error message: "Error: DiskUtility can’t repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files."
Also, Time Machine tried again to back-up and gave  me this error: "Files can't becopied onto the backup disk because it appears to be 'read only'. You may needto repair or reformat the disk using Disk Utility. If the disk can't berepaired, you must use a different disk for backups. Open Time Machinepreferences to select a different backup disk."
    Question 2. Other cables...
I used two other cables with the WD and that didn't change anything.
Question 3... Fire Wire from the La Cie
Yes, I used the Firewire cable from the La Cie and it is indeed present, though still not visible in Finder. Since it is not Mac OSExtended I know that I can't use Time Machine with it.
    So, in summary...
I can plug in the La Cie and it is functional on the MacBook, visible on Disk Utility but not visible in Finder. The WD drive is not visible and not functional. So we can think it is indeed the WD that is not working.... Also, the iphone photos did, in the end, get downloaded, so it is not something more general.
    Causes...
I forgot to mention that there is a "lost+found" file on the WD which apparently points to a UNIX /OS issue?
    Some kind of "insurance"?....
I'm curious about how people avoid this kind of issue. You just regularly replace back-up drives and hard drives before problems come up? Time Machine is great and saves many of us from disasters, however, knowing that your Time Machine back-ups are vulnerable makes the whole system insecure. No way to have alarms ring before the drive goes out?
    As for ways ahead...
It seems that I ought to be able to copy off of the WD to the MacBook then erase it and reformat it and start over again. However, I haven’t been able to see its contents except on random occasions. If you have any ideas on how to copy the Time Machineback-ups from the WD, again, I'm all ears!

  • Macbook no longer boots

    Hi,
This past Tuesday night I downloaded the new software updates for my macbook. There was an error during the installation and the updates did not complete. A screen popped up on my macbook which told me that I needed to re-start my macbook. I clicked ok and re-started. After the re-start my macbook will not boot, and remains stuck on the screen which reads "Starting Mac OS X..." I have tried resetting the PRAM and SMC, as well as using the Disk Utility to repair the disk. So far nothing has worked and the macbook remains stuck in boot-limbo...
Has anyone experienced anything similar after installing apple updates? Any help would be appreciated. Bought my macbook in June 2006 and my applecare just expired this past june.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
i'm following the disscussion since i've notice that my problem is very similar to UptownTopRanking. My macbook freezed when i was uptading (4 uptade at the time including Mac OS X). I shut it down by pressing the power button for few seconds.
And after the computer no longer boots and freeze on the grey screen.
I've tried the solutions proposed on the apple support page but it still not working.
When i saw this topic, i tried to do the same, archive and install the Mac OS X program with my original CD.
The problem is that everytime I'm trying to install it, the program stop after few minutes an ask me to reboot because and error occured. The Error message says : (i'm translating from french)
The installation program didn't succeed to install some files in the "/Volumes/MacintoshHD". Contact the editor of the program to have some help.
And then they ask me to restart the computer, and when i'm trying to intall again, the installation process is still crashing..
Is there anything i can do?

  • MacBook no longer able to print wirelessly?

    Hello
I have an issue that I can't seem to come up with a reason for or a resolution. I apologize in advance for the length of this posting.
We have a Dell Laptop that is connected wirelessly to a Brother MFC-420CN printer. We have a Linksys Router. Previously, we'd also had been connected wirelessly to the same printer and our MacBook. The Mac was connected to the printer through an Internet/IPP connection, using the IP address. We had no trouble printing from the Mac.
On Christmas, the Mac stopped printing wirelessly to the printer. We got the message "Failed to connect to device." We tried re-installing, etc, and finally went out and bought a USB/printer cable and connected hardwire Mac to printer, and after that, it again printed wirelessly.
    Problem solved, right?
Now, its happened again, but we cannot get the Mac and the printer to talk to each other. Each time we try, we get the same message "Failed to connect to device" but nothing has changed! This has happened literally overnight, one night it prints wirelessly, the next day it doesn't. Even connecting hardwire between the Mac & printer does not help this time. We've tried everything we can think of.
No issues w/the PC and printer at all.
Additional info: The PC and the Mac are NOT networked w/each other. Also, when we enter in the original IP address under the Mac printer installation, it immediately identifies the printer as the MFC-420CN, however, this is NOT the same IP address as on the Linksys router, but if we put in the IP address on the router, it no longer recognizes the printer.Printer sharing is enabled on the PC, although it wasn't previously. We can print hardwire from the Mac. Finally, the router and the Mac work fine wirelessly for the internet.
We're literally at a loss. It worked fine, then overnight, it doesn't.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated! I am a new Mac user so please bear with me!

    Hello
We weren't using that method to add the printer, however, we did try using both the original IP address as well as the one we see when we open the router properties, and still no luck.
Does the printer have its on IP address? Separate from the router IP address? If so, how would we find it?
    Thanks

  • MacBook no longer connects to T.V. after Thunderbolt 1.2 update

I recieved a 13 inch, mid 2012 MacBook Pro for my birthday on Dec. 20th 2013. A few days later I bought a Nexxtech Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adaptor which was working fantastically for a couple weeks when connecting my MacBook to my Insignia TV. After installing the Thunderbolt 1.2 update, my MacBook and TV no longer connect. The screen on my MacBook will flash for a second like it is detecting the TV, but that's it. I get a "no signal" sign on the TV. I've tried everything I could find on the internet. Resetting the PRAM and SMC, detecting through command + F2, turning off "displays have seperate spaces", and all the little rituals some people have to go through to get it to work. Nothing. I've even tried it on my parents LG TV. Nothing. I'm so ****** off. This was a huge reason I got a MacBook. Seeing that this update came out in May 2013 and people have been having the same issue since then, I'm not hopeful that Apple will be fixing this any time soon.

I also can't get the media sync to connect after the update. I can get the mass storage to work with no issue, but media sync is having issues.
Every time I connect with media sync, Windows 7 pops up a message stating that the driver failed to load and to contact Samsung. So I contacted Samsung support, which was completely useless.
I need the media sync to work because that's the only way I've found to get DRM-protected media files to transfer properly to my Charge. If I copy them to my phone while in mass storage mode, I can't play them because there is a licensing error.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Macbook no longer detects TV as display.

I have a Macbook, purchased around late April this year, I usually connect it to my Samsung 32" LCD TV using an Apple mini display port to DVI adapter and a fairly long DVI to HDMI cable that runs under my mattress to the TV. It used to connect immediately and display on the TV as soon as I plugged it in. Recently, it stopped connnecting so promptly, and a restart of the Macbook and unplugging and plugging the cable back into the back of the TV to make it work. This has since ceased to resolve the problem. The detect displays button does not detect the TV either. Why could it have suddenly deteriorated? How could I resolve this?

    John Vargo wrote:
When I hook my computer up in my home office I connect an external display using the Apple VGA dongle.
Previously, when I inserted the dongle the display would blank out for a moment while detecting the display, then reappear with the VGA output enabled. This is no longer the case. When I insert the dongle, my screen doesn't blank out, and the VGA output will not enable. Its like it doesn't even know I'm inserting the dongle.
I have inspected the dongle for broken pins and dirt, but it appears to be making a good connection.
Is there something wrong with my Mac, or is it the dongle? Is it worth taking this to a genius bar in hopes they can try a different dongle, or shed some light on the situation? Thanks in advance.
My usual question for things like this is what was the very last thing you did with the computer before this issue began?
I would guess the dongle is kaput, but you might check your logs, the console and even the activity monitor as you plug the dongle in.
Other than that, your Genius bar sounds good to me.
