Authorized - Reformat

So I authorized my itunes account to my old computer before I got a new one. Now that I use my new one, I gave the one I authorized my account with to my brother, which I reformatted.  I authorized my itunes account to my mac and new computer, and it says 3 out of 5 authorizations used. I assume that the 3rd one is the one on my old computer. How do I unauthorize my account from my old computer if I reformatted it before then?

Nevermind guys, I found out how to deauthorize all.

  • XML Reformat whitespace

    Hi, I'm using JDeveloper 10.1.3.0.4
Is there anyway of configuring the IDE so that when reformating an XML document, whitepsace between elements is not artificially created when it doesnt exist in the firstplace.
    eg.
    <Author><FirstName>John</FirstName><LastName>Smith</LastName></Author>
    reformats to
    <Author>
    <FirstName>John</FirstName>
    <LastName>Smith</LastName>
    </Author>
If you read http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/wang-whitespace.html it points out that these structures are not equivilent.
My defenition of reformat would include having the finished product equivilent to what you started with - otherwise it provides little use.
    Thanks heaps.

    Formatting includes whitespace and indentation.

  • Reformat an iBook Author project

I began my iBook project in two column mode. I now realize that the best layout for this project is in full page one column. How can I reformat the pages without starting a new project from scratch? I have tried various approaches without any success.

I don't know of a single lever to pull to do this that you may not have already tried, sorry.
Copy/pasting into a new section with the updated style, etc.

  • In ibooks author how to make an existing page start a new section

I have imported a Pages document into ibook authors (version 2.1.1 in OS 10.9.1) using the Classic Text Template. The original Pages document was basically a book, with title and table of contents and forward and several sections. Now everything is one huge unit. During the import I can choose a layout, but only a chapter or a section. Then all of the document is regarded as having that layout -- every page is regarded as having the section layout, for example, though only the first page has the smaller text area and the large text as a header. I can see all the layout possibilities in the Layouts sidebar, and they include section and forward and 1 column. When I hover the cursor over a particular page the book sidebar I see the little triangle that has been mentioned, and it offers options for changing layout,  but it does not allow me to make that page a new section or a forward. I can only make the page 2 column or put a sidebar on it. I cannot see how I can import the book and be able to create chapters and sections with ibooks author. I can insert a new section layout, or a new page, but I do not see how to  to change a page, after it is imported and is considered to be the text of a chapter or section, into the start of a new chapter or section.  I do not find anything in the inspector or on the menubar or in the help center that makes this change. The "add a chapter title" does not change the layout to make the text box smaller, as it should for a layout.   Is it actually possible to convert a Pages book into an ibook authors book, or must I create the blank chapters and sections in ibook authors and then cut and paste each section from Pages?

The advice given for  iBA, is to preplan your book. Modify an exsiting template as your layout  suits you,  to present a quality book to your readers.
iBooks Author is really more "app"  than a book maker like inDesign or even Pages,  - and users should really  get to know how to use it before starting out on a serious project.
The insert options are clear - you can insert a Chapter from MS Word or Pages  in iBA  a "chapter" is a distinct "standalone" part of a book which can include sections and pages as required. Sections can  be  moved up or down within their chapter or can be copied from one chapter to another. The pages in any chapter are static and the only way to change content location is copy and paste.
From your post, its seems you decided to  create you book using Pages and in one chapter expecting iBA to reformat it.
I would suggest a solution is to count your  chapters and  add that number into an iBA  new book, then  copy your Pages chapters.  I would guess that the whole process would  take less than 30 minutes.
Apple recieves feedback and suggestions for improvements, however the last update made very few changes to  the application and none of  those seen in many posts - such as being able to move pages. This indicates that Apple at  least,  are satisfied that the version is functional enough for  how Apple see books being made for its store. 12 months ago this  forum was  taking  hundreds of posts  per day asking advice, its now a trickle- which I take to be in indicator that  as a group, iBA users have taught themselves how to use the application and its  many options and third party add on's. iBA is more suited to the interactive side of publications as Apple intended, creating a mainly text only "novel" seems to be considered by Apple as the easy part!

  • How do I get the book title and author to appear on all pages?

I'm trying to create a new layout, and I can't quite figure out some of the auto-text boxes.
I'd like the book title, and author to appear at the top of the pages.
Also, I'd like the chapter title to be at the top of the page for the subsequent chapter pages, but not in the same size as the chapter title at the beginning of the chapter.
I've tried copying the chapter text box in layouts, then applying it to the chapter pages.  However, when I reformat the copied box for text size and orientation, the reformat effects all instances of that text box.  Grr.
(I know this all sounds like too much text and garbage on each page, but it's for an instructional piece that people will likely print a page or two at a time)

    Hello Andy,
Have you looked at the Layout Section.
If it is not visible pull down the handle and the master pages are there down the list for you to add and change.
Just first duplicate any page that you may want to change and then add the name and author titles to that page and press "APPLY"
    I hope this helps…

I have purchased a new computer and authorized my iTunes with my Apple ID; however, my iPod Classic, which I have had for many years, will not sync hundreds of songs that I have purchased and says the device needs to be authorized.
I have searched high and low and there does not seem to be a way to authorize the iPod Classic.  What can I do to sync my purchases to my iPod?  I have tried reformatting/restoring it as suggested.  It continues to only allow me to sync non-icloud/itunes content.
    Help!

What exactly happens when you try to sync?
Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer?
Have you successfully synced from this iTunes library/computer before?
If so have you done anything like update iTunes on the computer since it last successfully synced?
Do the songs play in iTunes?
Does any media now sync to the iPod?

  • Reformatting computer- what will happen to iTunes?

So I have to reformat my hard drive, so I bought an external hard drive and I think I transferred my music to it. I just went through my iTunes and copied and pasted the songs that I don't have on CD onto my external hard drive...will that work? I couldn't find another way to do it.
So the dilemma I have now is when I reinstall iTunes onto my reformatted computer, what will I have to do to get those songs to play? Will authorizing my computer to play that music allow me to transfer it back into my computer, without having to keep my EHD plugged in?
Or is there a better way to transfer my music? There isn't an "iTunes folder" in "My Music".
    Can someone answer my question???
    Thanks.
      Windows XP

Just curious.....why do you think you have to take the drastic step of reformatting your system?
Assuming a valid need to reformat, an external hard drive (EHD) is a good backup solution for your situation -- also as an ongoing backup device. Copying your entire My Music folder to your EHD should do it. Just make sure that you really copied ALL your music files to the EHD. Also, you should verify that your iTunes folder is indeed inside of your My Music folder.
After reformatting and regenerating your WinXP system, just copy your My Music backup in its entirety to its former location on your system drive. Then, reload the iTunes software and you should be good from there. Several other experienced posters in this forum may have some good links to articles for further assistance. Gook Luck.

  • ITunes Unable to Retrieve Songs from iPod Shuffle on newly reformatted lapt

I just reformatted my computer - reinstalling the OS on my HP Laptop (uses XP)....and now, after trying to retrieve music files, which apparently I did not save correctly, iTunes will not allow me to import the songs from my iPod shuffle. I get a message that my computer is not authorized. I followed the instructions and "authorized" my computer, but to no avail - it will not recognize my shuffle - and I cannot even get the music I put onto my shuffle from my personal CD collection - which had been placed onto my music lists prior to my reinstalling the OS. HELP........!! Please.......anyone.....if you are an Apple employee and reading this - why is it so doggone hard to get help in understanding how to use this technology???? Can I get a little help here ????????
thank you anyone -- Robert Bond

Connect your iPod to your computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in iTunes enable it for disk use, this is required for most if not all the utilities listed below so they can access the files: Using your iPod as a storage drive
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and was written long before iTunes 7 so it requires a little adaptation: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and you need to check out that they work with the shuffle as well as the larger iPods. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

    iGadget Windows Only
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows

Once you have copied all the songs back to iTunes it will be safe to "Erase & Sync" the iPod on connection to link the shuffle to this new library

  • Authoring to DVD w playback monitor capable of HD, Sequence settings?

    Hello Macaroonies,
As the subject line reads, I'm working on a project w a final output for playback on DVD hooked up to a HDTV ready 16:9 monitor.
I'm working in the sequence setting preset NTSC 3:2 (720x480) and plan on converting the finished edit to progressive as a last step. The theory here is to maintain a less-renders-required workflow in standard Ntsc (ie 480i) and convert to progessive just before output.
Is this the highest quality setting possibility in this case? Are there better ways to author to DVD and take advantage of the monitors capabilities?
The monitor itself is reformatting the image from 4:3 to 16:9 and it looks good. As an option, should I have the anamorphic setting activated within FCP sequence settings?
    Thanks, Mac ain't cheeze
    Drew

    Alright, that helps a lot.
This is something of a gray area, but if you're ultimately going to be playing back on this monitor - and only this monitor - you can forgo the Anamorphic thing because you can simply use the LCD monitor's in-built menu to fill the frame (as, I believe, you said you're doing currently).
Of course, in the off chance that this project needs to be played on any other monitor (or a 4:3 monitor), you're backed into a corner.
Personally, I would favor going Anamorphic - and adjusting your monitor appropriately - but the distortion issues confuse/annoy many people.
Now, if you're looking to make a progressive (as in 480p) DVD, I would suggest trying out the DV NTSC 48kHz - 23.98 sequence preset. Or it's anamorphic sibling. (How where you thinking of going progressive?)

  • IBooks Author, PhoneGap, or Baker Framework? - That is the question

We've developing an interactive picture book in iBooks Author that primarily uses iBA as the shell, with most of the content and interactivity done in the HTML widget. I'm using Hype (http://tumultco.com/hype) to create the HTML5 & CSS, and the book looks great ... in Safari on my Mac. The book works fairly welll in iBooks on the iPad, but there are glitches and some images break up during animation sequences. Reading through these forums and elsewhere, it appears that iBA is inconsistent in how well it handles HTML5 animations, transitions, and audio.
We're keeping images optimized (total iBA file will wind up being only about 25MB), re-using graphics when possible, and trying not to do too many things at once on the screen, but I'm starting to wonder if iBA is the best solution for publishing a picture book. Perhaps having a large HTML widget causes iBA to choke?
The point of all this is that I've been pondering other solutions: i.e., PhoneGap (http://phonegap.com/) and the Baker Framework (http://bakerframework.com/). These allow development in HTML and publishing on the iPad. PhoneGap and Baker Framework both use Apple's X-Code tool to create an application shell, which is then submitted through Apple's Developer Program (not iBooks' iTunes Producer / iTunes Connect method). Although these tools create "apps," some of the apps are being published as books in the iBooks store.
My inquiring mind wants to know:
== Anyone have any experiences, pro or con, with PhoneGap or the Baker Framework?
== Any caveats to know if using iBooks Author with HTML to publish a picture book?
== Does Apple decide if something submitted as an "app" is really a "book" and therefore gets sold via the iBooks store? Or, vice versa?
== Is there any way to submit an X-Code built app to the iBooks store without going through the Developer Program?
== Does Apple allow selling an app in the iTunes store and the iBooks store?
Just trying to pick your brains about the best, easiest, most appropriate route to get our picture book published successfully.
Thanks for reading this far... JP

    ....PhoneGap or the Baker Framework?
Haven't and wouldn't waste time w/PG. Both mean working with Xcode in the end. I prefer Baker FWIW.
== Any caveats to know if using iBooks Author with HTML to publish a picture book?
HTML would need to be stripped and reformatted/styled for use w/iBA. iBA is iPad distribution only, so you won't be reaching iPhone or touch owners.
== Does Apple decide if something submitted as an "app" is really a "book" and therefore gets sold via the iBooks store? Or, vice versa?
Apps are apps....books are books - two different programs. You decide which to take your chances with. I have 'books' in both.
== Is there any way to submit an X-Code built app to the iBooks store without going through the Developer Program?
Totally different programs. You can't submit an 'app' as a book unless you make it into a book and then you need to use either the free or paid books programs having nothing to do with a developer account.
== Does Apple allow selling an app in the iTunes store and the iBooks store?
Again, two different programs, registrations and processes. If you can make the same subject matter apply to, and work with/thru both, go for it with two efforts, but it won't be one thing in two stores.
For me, you haven't really made it clear what you want to do in the end, so these responses are primarily cached in my guessing what that may be, exactly.
Your skills, budget, timeline, resources and content-in-hand may well define only one option regardless...or none - who knows.

  • Portrait followed by Landscape content in iBooks Author

Preparing to ePublish, using the Contemporary template (I think is how it started), and since modified (only) the chapter layout for my heading preferences.  Started in Portrait mode and imported all my text (cut and paste from a Word doc, because I didn't want to save each chapter individually).  Then, I didn't like the mess it created after I previewed it on my iPad in Landscape. So I discovered (I think) how to format for Landscape in iBA, and reimported all the text and reformatted for Landscape.  Now it looks great in Landscape, but when I flip my iPad to Portrait, it looks good until I get to the bottom of the page... and then the content is repeated with the Landscape formatting.  This does not happen in Landscape mode, they both look good (as I formatted them) with the exception of the extra (duplicate) content at the bottom of each chapter when I flip to Portrait.
    Any ideas????
I have Two issues, but I know better than to ask two questions in the same Post/eMail/Text (yes, voice of experience). I will post the next issue soon.
    Thank You All!

  • Authorized and Deauthorized

I just installed iTunes on my work computer, cause I just can't work without my music. When I installed and try to play my music, iTunes states that I have 5 Authorized computers and that I need to deauthorized a computer to do this. I don't have that many computers. I have one here at work and one at home. Now the one at home is my hobby computer I had that computer crash on me so many times that it wasn't possible to recover the information and deauthorized the computer. Could this be the problem?

Yes. Each time you reformat a computer, change the hard drive, reinstall the operating system, reinstall iTunes, etc. if you didn't de-authorize it first, the authorization is still tied to that installation. iTunes has no way to know a hard drive crashed, etc.
You should see an option to de-authorize ALL five accounts. Use that (you can only do it once per year) and then reauthorize the two computers you use.
    Cheers,
    Patrick

  • 5th generation not recognized after reformat

I recently reformatted my hard drive. Before I did so, I deauthorized the computer for iTunes, backed up my music, etc. I have reinstalled iTunes, authorized the computer, and restored my music and videos. All seems good with iTunes.
However, when I plug my 5th generation Nano in, iTunes is saying it cannot read the content and needs to restore the factory defaults, which would erase all the content. Before I go through the hassle of recreating all my playlists and whatnot, I was trying to find if there may be a workaround or "fix" for this. Any suggestions? I did save the complete My Document\My Music\iTunes directory, so if there is a config file or something that identifies devices, I could restore it. Thanks for any help.

    See these.
    iPod won't turn on.
    iPod battery doesn't charge.
Your Windows PC doesn't recognize the iPod is connected.
iPod only shows an Apple logo and doesn't start up.
Restoring using disk mode is often the key.
    Putting iPod into disk mode.

  • Update causes loss of authority for i pod

I installed the latest up date, and now itunes has removed all my purchased music from my ipod because it says it is not authorized. I have done nothing to any of the hard ware just installed the up date now all I have is imported CDs on the ipod but the purchases are still listed on itunes. but I can't play them there either because my computer is not authorized.
This is the second time this has happened to me, last time I just authorized my computer again, but you can only do that 5 times.
How do I actually get hold of some geek at apple to put this right, as it should not be down to an other users forum to fix a problem they have caused.

    </SCRIPT>

I solved this well sort of.
    Short answer,
Deauthorise the computer, as many times as it takes for itunes to say no authorised computers, reauthorise you computer and it works again. If like mine did your ipod refuses to sync all the tracks first try just keep hitting the sync button untill they all copy over.
    Long rant.
I copied the itunes libary to a different partition on my hard disc, I thought about copying it to a removable hard disc just in case I managed to wipe it out completly. I then checked how many computers apple thought were authorised, it thought 2, once from my first instalation of i-tunes and the second when I had to re authorise the same machine last time this happened.
I then went to the store tab and deauthorised this computer I-tunes then belived I only had one computer authorised this one and i-tunes still said it was not authorised and would not copy purchases to the i-pod. So I went back to the store tab and deauthorised the same computer a second time. I-tunes then said no authorised computers, i-tunes still showed all purchased music but wouldn't let it play as the computer was not authorised, so copying the itunes libary was actually an unesersary precaution. I then authorised the computer again. Partial succsess purchase would now play on the computer through itunes.
I then tried to sync my ipod, 40 songs of 200+ copied before I got a windows error message telling me the remote disc could not be read or written to. I tried twice more to sync my ipod with the same result, I re booted the pc and tried again no difference, so reluctantly I hit the restore button and reformatted the ipod. BAD move on trying to resync the ipod 400 of almost 3000 tracks copied over (most are under 10 seconds of langauge learning material)I tried to sync a second time and a further 40 tracks copied over, between 20 to 150 tracks copied over at each sucsesive attempt it took a long time to restore.

  • Apple iBooks Author is not a print production tool-

I was really impressed with Apple's release of iBooks Author App and I'm sure I will get a secondary drive to be bootable with Lion so that I can install this new free app, that only runs in Mac OS X Lion.  But, as long as I am producing books for the printing press, before they go to eReader, InDesign will have to be my tool of choise so that all of my work that was put into the book production can be repurposed to the e-reader version.
Sorry that I'm not posting an InDesign question.  I'm just sharing some thoughts with my community.
I'm getting ready to upgrade from InDesing CS 4 to InDesign CS5.5.

iWeb is template based and Dreamweaver is a WYSIWYG graphical web editor. iWeb is the fry cook of the web world with Dreamweaver the fast food middle manager of the web world. In most cases you aren't going to get haute cuisine out of Dreamweaver, that's where your IDE's and scripting languages shine.
iBooks author is essential the same thing as Microsoft Publisher, but built exclusively for getting content into Apple's iBooks2 and iTunes U applications. One can build a bunch of equity in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, PDF, images and spit them into Publisher or iBooks Author with minimum reformatting and maintain the magic that those applications have.
InDesign allows you to leverage graphical equity from existing print layouts and publish to a few more output directions. Getting existing Powerpoints, Excel documents, Word Documents misused as layouts and the like is not something one can easily accomplish in InDesign. You can get your InDesign documents wrapped into Adobe's viewer and push out to Android, iOS and other platforms provided you pay Adobe either a grip of cash or a small amount of cash every time you want the document updated.
For the everyday student, professor, office worker or anybody who doesn't already have a strong investment in Adobe and InDesign it is a no brainer to go the iBooks Author route. Apple's iPad and iOS have a commanding lead in marketshare and a staggering lead in revenue spent on content per device. Many people aren't putting effort forth on Android or other devices still (though the Kindle Fire may change that). For the purpose of taking something that is free, publishing for free to the over 40 million devices out there iBooks is a much more attractive route for many than Zinio, Woodwing, DPS, paying a developer.
