Authorized versus Associated.....trying to share content

What is the difference between a computer being AUTHORIZED to play content from an iTunes account versus a computer being ASSOCIATED with a device so it can be synced and play the content? It seems multiple computers can be AUTHORIZED to play content from multiple iTunes account but each device can only be ASSOCIATED with one iTunes account (or is it one computer) at a time. Is that correct?
If so, can all the AUTHORIZED content on a computer (even if from multiple iTunes accounts) be synced to one ASSOCIATED iPad?
I have a Work Computer (PC), Associated Work iPad and Work iTunes Account and a separate Home Computer (iMac), Associated Home iPad and Home iTunes account. I am trying to figure out how to share content? Currently all my content is in my Home iTunes Account / Computer. My Work iPad, Work iTunes Account are both new and I want to share some of my Home iTunes content on my Work iPad.
I am concerned when I read that once a device is ASSOCIATED with an iTunes account it can not be ASSOCIATED with a different account for 90 days. I can't risk ASSOCIATING my Work iPad with my Personal iTunes Account and being locked out from syncing my Work iTunes account on my Work iPad for 90 days.

Okay, I figured it out myself and will document it here so others may benefit.
A computer can be AUTHORIZED to play/use content purchsed from multiple iTunes Accounts. There is a limit to the number of computers that can be AUTHORIZED per account (5 total) but no limit as to how many accounts a computer can be AUTHORIZED to play. Once you have AUTHORIZED all the accounts AND downloaded all the purchased content from each account to a computer, this content can be also be played on any device ASSOCIATED with the computer. A device can only be ASSOCIATED to one computer but one computer can have many devices ASSOCIATED to it. As an example, you can use apps purchased on from multiple iTunes accounts on an iPad as long as the computer the iPad is ASSOCIATED with is AUTHORIZED to use/play the content for each of the accounts. Another example: if you also purchased music from all the iTunes accounts, you could listen to it on an iPad, iPhone and iPod as long as all three were ASSOCIATED with the computer where all the accounts were AUTHORIZED.
Hope this helps.

  • Distribution Points not appearing when trying to distribute content

    Hello,
When I try to distribute content for a OS task sequence to a distribution point to my 2 distribution points using distribute content wizard, my distribution points are never shown. When I click Add distribution points, the available distribution points are
empty.  Just this morning I distributed the content for boot images, packages, applications, Operating system images, and operating system installers.
how can it work for these and not for Task sequence, if it is rights related. I tried to delete and recreate the task sequence, but still the DP don't show up in the list.
I understand that once the content is distributed to a DP, the DP won't show up in the list of DP when trying to distribute content. I don't see the task sequence listed on the DPs under content, but see the other boot images, etc.
•Site Status and Component Status are all green under Monitoring.
•The distribution Point configuration Status is a green Arrow.
12 successful, 0 in progress and 0 error
•Drive Settings for these DPs are set to 15,000 mb
•I have rebooted the DP, SQL and PS Server.
    Thanks,
    Mark

  • Messages app crashes while trying to share photo

Messages app freezes and crashes after trying to share a photo by tapping the camera button... I'd like to add that I've quite literally tried everything to fix this is issue and have searched this entire forum for answers, even called apple 2-3 times and they ran out of ideas as well...  I've reset all settings and content, I've wiped my iPhone and started fresh and manually started adding content back onto my device and the photo share option worked!! Unfortunately it only worked for a day then went right back to freezing and crashing without showing any photos to share.  I can still share photos thru the photos app but that is such a nuisance to use regularly... Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated!!  And im not holding my breath that 8.1 will fix anything because 8.0.2 didn't fix squat... Actually 8.0.1 ruined landscape mode in safari for me and I'm not able to select anything on any website while in landscape

Problem is now known by Apple. See http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303604

  • I am at work and someone is trying to share my itunes library. Is there a way to put a password or lock on it somehow?

i am at work and someone is trying to share my itunes library. Is there a way to put a password or lock on it somehow?

Select Edit > Preferences > Sharing (press Ctrl-B to enable the menu bar if it is not visible).  Then either:
Uncheck the Share my library on my local network box so that no-one has access to it. or
Check the Require password box and enter a password value if you want to share the content of your library (either the whole library or a selection of playlists) with selected users.

  • I was trying to share some photos and my i photo app is frozen.  i can't access it or get it to work.

I was trying to share some photos and my i photo app is totally frozen on the desktop  I can no longer access i photo or the photos I was trying to share.  Help!

How were you sharing the photos?
Try to backup your iPhoto library and hold down the option and command keys while  launching iPhoto - key the keys down until the first aid window appears - rebuild your database

  • I am trying to share calendars with my husband (using Google calendars). He can see my calendars, but I am having trouble seeing his. We both use iPhones.

I am trying to share calendars with my husband (using Google calendars). He can see my calendars, but I am having trouble seeing his. We both use iPhones. We both have company email addresses. I have had to install and uninstall my gmail info on my iPhone multiple times due to errors sending and receiving emails from my company email address on my phone. For some reason, all of my emails are getting stuck in my outbox when my gmail account is installed on my phone. When I delete it, my emails get sent automatically. This is really annoying! I would do without the gmail account, but I need to share calendars with my husband. How do I fix this?

If you have two-step verification turned on in your email account, you'll have to log in with a browser and turn it off.

  • In trying to share music with multiple user accounts on one comp, I quit itunes, located my itunes media folder, moved it to a publicly accessible location. Problem is it didn't work and now I can't get it all back to the way it was.

In trying to share music with multiple users on one computer, I followed the directions on "iTunes:How to share music between different accounts on a single computer" (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1203). I did something wrong because i lost iTunes
Tried to put files back, but it is not the same. Plugged in my ipod and it is not recognizing my computer.
Can someone tell me where iTunes should be, and what sub files should be included with it. Thanks!

If you are seeing the "Connect to iTunes" logo, then your device is in Recovery Mode, and you will need to restore it:
If you can't update or restore your iOS device
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes

  • IPhoto 9.5.1 - Trying to share 1 libary

Using iPhoto 9.5.1.... Trying to share one libary on a home network between 2 imacs, a mini mac server and a laptop (and two iphones) - I am organised and my husband is not - It would be great if we could share our family photos in one great master area on our home network - Sadly I hear this has been discontinued? If not please help

That is not really a feature of iPhoto - it can be done - sort of - using an external disk with ownership ignored - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1198

  • Have a company based itunes account, trying to share itunes on bank owned devices. can't get all devices to keep our shared password on them without requesting user to enter password (which i am not giving them)

i am an IT manager for a bank.  we have several company owned iphones. WE have also implemented a mobile device management system to manage our iphones.
We setup acompany based itunes account, trying to share itunes on bank owned devices.  This way i can add bank approved apps to the devices through our itunes account and push out to the iphones, and no one can download any other non bank approved apps.
it has been working ok. but recently i had one user who came in.  He went to enter in his itunes account on the phone and didn't work. So then came back and my staff and myself have (as much as we can see) removed his email account itunes login from all sections in settings. and entered in our itunes account information, but when you go to the app store, and hit upgrade, it still shows his email account for itunes.  I feel like i can't get all devices to keep our shared password on them without requesting user to enter password (which i am not giving them)
How can i troubleshoot his device. i tried changing password 5 times today, rebooted device, and no change.
    Jenn McGlynn

i have an MDM application, and i push out the apps i want them to have with our IT apple id account. for some reason when two approved apps needed updating last week, they prompted him for our password. (which i told him to bring phone in and i would enter password).
but somehow he went to try to enter his personal to make it work (don't know why)
somewhere it's keeping his personal email. i went into itunes/apps and our apple id is in there.
there is nothing in icloud b/c we do not allow icloud, so that's clear.

  • How do i share content with my family without becoming responsible for payment of everybody's purchases? with familysharing i mean, not home sharing

how do i share content with my family without becoming responsible for payment of everybody's purchases?
with familysharing i mean, not home sharing
i have set up a familyshare for my parents and 3 siblings, all mid twenties. everybody is used to paying their own way. how do i make that continue to be the case and still keep the sharing facility open?
e.g I don't want to pay for my sisters' music purchases - half of it i don't like - but would like access to it now and then.

-> Home Sharing is different than logging into the iTunes store.
You enable Home Sharing using one AppleID. Doesn't matter which you use but all devices must use the same AppleID for Home Sharing.

  • How do i get rid of "homecomputer" that is trying to share with me?

I think someone may be trying to share something with my computer, but I have no idea who would do this and do not wish to share. In Finder, on the left, underneath SHARED, there is an icon of an old looking computer that says "homecomputer." Every once in a while the eject symbol shows up next to it, but when I click it nothing happens, and the eject button disappears. Clicking the "homecomputer" once, a file shows up on the right that says "SharedDocs." On the top it says Connected as: Guest. The file contains several other files such as AOL Downloads, some songs, sample pictures, etc. Its possible a neighbor accidentally connected, but I wish to delete this for security reasons. However, I can't delete it. Please help me get rid of this!

If you have a Network listed under Devices or Shared in the Finder's sidebar, then click on it to open the Network window. If you see an icon for "homecomputer" displayed, then CTRL- or RIGHT-click on it and select Eject from the contextual menu or simply drag it to the Trash.
If no Network is listed, then select Preferences from the Finder menu, click on the Advanced icon in the toolbar, then check the topmost box, Computer. Now in the Finder's sidebar you should see an entry under Devices labeled Computer or your computer name. Select it, and you should now see a Network icon displayed.
If this doesn't work, then check your settings in the File Sharing panels in System Preferences. It may be helpful to turn off file sharing, wait for it to stop, then restart it.
If your wireless network is not protected, then I suggest you configure your router to turn on WPA2 security and assign a password to access your network.

  • Trying to share a printer attached to a PPC Mac Mini

    Hi all.
I'm reinsterting an old Mac Mini running OS X 10.5.8 as a headless print server. I can interact with it via other computers to share the screen, so my network protocol with the computer is sound. My problem is, I can't seem to print to any printer attached to this computer--this is obviously a problem, as that's the whole reason I've revived this device.
Sharing setup for all computers is complete and the client computers don't seem to have any trouble seeing the printer. But when I print to it, the job is sent VERY quickly (suspiciously so) from my clients (a Mac Mini Intel in the living room and a MacBook), and the PPC mini shows no indication a print job was ever delivered.
Any brilliant ideas? I'm sure it's something really basic I'm not remembering or thinking about, and I'm sure someone has already asked this question; feel free to direct me to that solution, as my searching efforts didn't produce anything that I felt was helpful--but I've been wrong before.
    Thanks!

OK then, please post a brand new question in the OS X 10.5.8 "Leopard" forum:
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/mac_os/mac_os_x_v10.5_leopard
I no longer have a Leopard system to test and I used my one brilliant idea for today.
A new question should solicit more interest. Hopefully one of the old guard can think of something. Reference this thread so they can read what you did so far: Trying to share a printer attached to a PPC Mac Mini
Edit: Before you go, can you print to this printer while directly attached to the other computers too? Make sure it's not a simple driver problem. Good luck!

    Hi dprette,
When setting up iTunes to share a single music library between multiple user accounts on one computer you should follow the steps in this article -

I have checked the J2EE_ADMIN password and is working fine when accessing from the ABAP end and Java is up and running fine.
If you can suggest me the solution ASAP, that would be great.
    Thanks & regards,
