Authorizing a computer to play my songs

can i authorize my friends laptop to play my itunes songs and can he sync them to his ipod as i sync to mine?

Yes, but once you authorize his computer he may find it easier to simply buy what he wants and charge it to your account.

  • My coputer is authorized, but will not play a song just purchased saying you need to authorize this computer

My computer is authorized, but will not play a song I just purchased. It says this computer need to be authorized. So, I type in my user name and ID, and it replies this computer is already authorized.

Delete and redownload it if doing so is free in your country.

and, what is even more strange...
I actually bought 2 Billy Joel songs NY State of Mind from Essential Billly Joel and Italian Restaurant from Greatist Hits vol 1.  Neither song would play.
I went back the Apple store and tried to re-download NYSOM.  It let me do it for free.  Before I checked I tried to re-dowload IR but inadvertantly selected same song but from The Stranger.  I had to pay for this one.  The re-downloaded NYSOM still didn't work but IR I bought from Stranger worked.  So, I bought NYSOM from Greatest Hits vol 1. Didn't work!!!  Tried again and bought from another album, Turnstiles, and that one worked.  So, I bought 5 songs, only 2 of which will work.
So, now I ask - is there any way to get my money back?

  • My computer is authorized to play purchases but for one of the songs I recently purchased I keep getting prompted to authorize the computer to play the song. How do I fix this?

I recently purchased a song on my iphone. When I synced my phone to my computer, I was prompted to authorize the computer to play the song, which I did. It did not compute and thus when I try to play the song in iTunes on my Macbook Pro, I keep getting prompted to authorize the computer. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can fix it? I also cannot play the song now from my iPhone. I even tried re-downloading it from the iTunes store and that did not help.

That suggests the track is damaged.
If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copy of the track and try redownloading a fresh one. See the following document for instructions:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the item, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.

  • How do i activate my computer to play purchased songs?

I have read the "activate" instructions and activated purchased music, but itunes keeps askiing me to activate when I try to play a song that I purchased on another computer.
I transfered my music from a PC to my new Mac using my iPod as a disk. I am updating my iPod on the Mac. iTunes says that songs purchased at the Music Store cannot be put on the iPod because I have not authorized my new Mac. I then click on the song, as though to play it, and a screen pops up to allow me to enter my apple ID and password. I enter my current ID, which is different than the email address I used to purchase the music (an ID that seems to no longer exist), and my current password. iTunes tells me that I have now authorized the computer to play the given song. However, when I click on that same song, I am told to authorize again.
What is happening? How can I fix this so I can play purchased songs on my new computer?
    Thanks!
    Nicole

Nicole, Welcome to the discussion area!
I don't know how you ended up here, but your question has absolutely nothing to do with the AirPort Extreme or wireless networking. Instead you should post your question in the iTunes discussion area.

  • Authorize this computer to play iTunes songs not working so well

I've downloaded a few of the "Free" songs from the iTunes Store and later when I go to listen to them I get a window to log in and authorize my computer to play the song. Problem is, I am logged in. And even if I log in again, I then get a message that says my computer is already authorized.
Now the fun part. Sometimes after I log in again the song will start playing. Other times, no luck.
I have tried restarting the computer and iTunes and neither seems to improve the problem. I also recently updated iTunes to version 8.0.1.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks,
    TJ

Several users have reported this issue since the release of iTunes 8. Some are able to sort out the problem temporarily by restarting iTunes, or by restarting the computer. I'd suggest the section of this document regarding removing the SC Info folder:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1389
Beyond that, it doesn't hurt to report the issue to iTunes Store customer service:

    Chef_206,
I think you might be experiencing something different, which is actually more or less expected behavior of iTunes. In your iTunes program, click your Store menu at the top and choose View my Account. Enter your account info, and when you get to the Apple Account Info page you should see a button that says "Deauthorize All." Click this button, which deauthorizes all computers (whether they be 5 tangible machines, or one machine taking up several authorizations) and then go back and see if you can authorize your desired computer(s).

  • My itunes doesn't have the options to authorized any computer to play with my Apple Id.

My itunes doesn't have the options to authorized any computer to play with my Apple Id. What should I do?

    Hey danielefrommill valley,
Thanks for the question. Here is the information on how to authorize your computer to play iTunes Store purchases:
iTunes 11 for Windows: Authorize a computer to play iTunes Store purchases
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12511
Authorize a computer to play iTunes Store purchases: Choose Store > Authorize This Computer.
If you do not see the Store menu you can enable the menubar:
iTunes: Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5610
    - To keep the iTunes menus active, change the setting by selecting the Menu icon in the upper-left, and then selecting Show Menu Bar. Alternatively, you can press Control-B.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Authorizing a computer to play songs

With the new iTunes allowing for iPods to be on more than one computer I was wondering if I authorize a computer to play songs will it allow them to be played and that is all? I just need the songs authorized to play on a computer but if I do will this be all it does? Just authorize them.....

I just bought a new Macbook, I have a Deejaying business with a partner, and I just recently copied our song list onto my computer but now those songs are locked, I understand that I need to authorize one of our computers so we can play our songs, but which one and more importantly, how do you do it? Someone told me we need to have both computers online at the same time, or something to that effect?

  • Computer not authorized error when I play a song a purchased?

I purchased a song and itunes keeps telling me my computer is not authorized to play it. When I type in the authorization information, it then tells me it's already authorized. Then when I try to play it, it tells me that the computer isn't authorized again?!?!

Doublechecking. In the course of your troubleshooting to date, have you worked through the following document?
iTunes repeatedly prompts to authorize computer to play iTunes Store purchases

  • What do you do about repeated requests to authorize the computer to play a song?

I purchased a song on iTunes 2 days ago and have been trying e-mail exchanges with iTunes Customer Support.  They haven't helped me at all.  Everything they suggest doesn't work and I still have the same problem.  When I try to play the song I purchased, I get a box that says this computer isn't authorized.  I then type in my ID and password and I get a box that says this computer is already authorized.  Then I try to play the song again and I get the box that says my computer isn't authorized.
Does anyone know what I can do to fix this problem.  I called the Apple Support and they want me to spend $49 to figure out why I can't play my $1.29 song.
    Thanks for any help.

That is the same reference that iTunes support gave me.  I tried the 2nd and 4th things suggested (the 3rd doesn't apply to a Mac), and I didn't try the first one because I don't know how to log in as an administrator.  They didn't offer to explain how to do that, but if you can walk me through it I will try that one as well.
The strange thing is that I have downloaded before from iTunes and never had any trouble.  I just upgraded to the newest version of iTunes over the weekend.  Do you think that might have something to do with the problem?
Thanks for the reply and hopefully this thing can get fixed.

  • Error when trying to authorize new computer to play a song

    Hello,
i just transferred all my songs from one computer to the next, as well as my husbands music. everytime we try to play a song that is associated with his apple id, i get the error "We could not complete your itunes store request. An unknown error ocurred (-50). There was an error in the itunes stores. Please try again later"
    Any ideas?

Not really, other than trying at a really inconvenient time when most people are asleep, such as 4AM USA Pacific when the Apple servers are probably not busy.
edit- tell me, are you able to go to the store and download a free single of the week?

  • HT1933 Says I need to authorize computer to play a song I purchased, I did and message keeps coming up.

I purchased a song on I tunes and when I try to play it message said need to authorize the computer,I did and message still appears.

You need to authorize the computer with that specific Apple ID. If that account's inaccessible, delete the song and then purchase it from your current Apple ID, or click here and ask the iTunes Store staff for assistance.
