Authorizing a computer to play songs

With the new iTunes allowing for iPods to be on more than one computer I was wondering if I authorize a computer to play songs will it allow them to be played and that is all? I just need the songs authorized to play on a computer but if I do will this be all it does? Just authorize them.....

I just bought a new Macbook, I have a Deejaying business with a partner, and I just recently copied our song list onto my computer but now those songs are locked, I understand that I need to authorize one of our computers so we can play our songs, but which one and more importantly, how do you do it? Someone told me we need to have both computers online at the same time, or something to that effect?

  • ITunes says computer not authorized. When I try to authorize computer it says it is already authorized but will not play song

iTunes says computer not authorized. When I try to authorize computer it says it is already authorized but will not play song. Note. Library was moved from PC to MAC. I am signed in to Itunes with the Apple ID created on the old computer which is different than the Apple ID used to set up the MAC.

I'm experiencing the same thing under iTunes 11.1.1:
iTunes says the computer is not authorized, prompts me to authorize
I enter my credentials, iTunes says computer is already authorized
When I attempt to play song, iTunes starts at bullet point 1 above over again.
    My attempted fixes:
I tried everything in this support document, to no avail: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1389 (Note: I cannot find a SC Info folder on my Mac)
    Deauthorize and then reauthorize computer
Delete song and try to redownload from iTunes store - there's only a button that says 'purchased' with no option to redownload it
Note: I am using only one iTunes account, and I double checked the song info - I'm authorizing the correct account - 12 songs from the same album purchased at the same time play fine. As does the song in question - from the finder. Only iTunes stubbornly refuses to play it.
The most odd thing is that iTunes music is DRM free - the song in question was purchased only a few months ago. Thus there's no need to authorize the computer to play it.
I was hoping that iTunes 11.1.1 would cure it - no dice.

  • My itunes doesn't have the options to authorized any computer to play with my Apple Id.

My itunes doesn't have the options to authorized any computer to play with my Apple Id. What should I do?

    Hey danielefrommill valley,
Thanks for the question. Here is the information on how to authorize your computer to play iTunes Store purchases:
iTunes 11 for Windows: Authorize a computer to play iTunes Store purchases
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12511
Authorize a computer to play iTunes Store purchases: Choose Store > Authorize This Computer.
If you do not see the Store menu you can enable the menubar:
iTunes: Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5610
    - To keep the iTunes menus active, change the setting by selecting the Menu icon in the upper-left, and then selecting Show Menu Bar. Alternatively, you can press Control-B.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • How can I authorize my computer to play songs that were initially downloaded under a different email address and computer

How can I authorize my computer to play songs that were initially downloaded under a different Apple ID (email address) on a different computer?

You need to either authorize it from that Apple ID or delete those songs and buy them from your current one.

  • TS4036 New Computer cannot play songs

I have bought a new computer and tried to upload my albums and songs from ICloud.  I can see them in my itunes app. but cannot play them as it says "cannot be loctated".  How do i sort this?

    Greetings mantarunner,
Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities.
I know it can be frustrating to be asked repeatedly to authorize your computer when it is already authorized. Deauthorizing all computers, and then reauthorizing the one computer was a good step.
You can find some additional tips to help resolve this situation in this article:

  • Authorizing a computer to play my songs

can i authorize my friends laptop to play my itunes songs and can he sync them to his ipod as i sync to mine?

Yes, but once you authorize his computer he may find it easier to simply buy what he wants and charge it to your account.

  • HT1420 How do I authorise my computer to play songs purchased with an old apple id for which I no longer have the password?

I recently purchased a mac for my daughter. On transfering some songs to her machine from my computer, I was asked for authorisation which I provided.
Some songs however, although they play with no problems on my other two machines, on HER computer asked me to authorise the songs with an apple ID and Password that I no longer have and haven't used in about 5 years. The e-mail ID is closed down now, and I can't remember the password.
    What do I do?

All downloads from the store are tied to the account that downloaded them, so if those songs were bought by that old account then only that old account will be able to authorise them. If you can't remember the password but you know it's security info then you could try getting the password reset via this page : http://iforgot.apple.com - if you can then you can change the primary email address on it by logging into the account : http://appleid.apple.com
If you can't get the password reset that way then you could try contacting iTunes Support : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page
    Or maybe Apple : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699

  • Authorizing my computer to play music

i moved a bunch of musci from my external to my lap top since i just had t cleaned out and now it wont let me play a lot of my music because my cimouter isnt authorized and i cant figure out how. i need help! please

I had several symptoms on this "keeps asking to authorize computer" issue including showing a grey sreen when ask to play music videos or TV shows. This seemed to have happen some 5 weeks after I cahnged my itunes account ID, even if it was working perfectly fine ofter such change. Worst, it keeps prompting the old account ID every once in a while. It looks like the iStore account ID and/or the iStore authorization registry mechanism or database is out of control. The only way I was able to resolve this was to de-authorize my computer several times (up to 3) even if the message kept coming back with the message that your computer is not authorize, some how it appears that doing it several times seems to clear an outstanding registry inside the istore database. That I can say, so far it seems to work . . . enjoy. One comments is that I am really not impressed with Apple support or their inability to correct the situation since all of you may have notice that this is a problem that seems to be there for several weeks. I have spent way too many hours fugging the dog on this problem

  • Authorized new computer. Most songs are gone

Last night I authorized a new computer. Everything went fine. All my purchased songs were there.
Today when I signed on, every single song has vanished except for the few I added to a playlist last night.  Where did all the rest of my songs go? How can I get them back?
    Thank you.

See this migrate iTunes library post. Back up your library and other personal data on a regular basis. Then you will be ready to move it over to your next computer when the time comes.

  • Authorizing a computer to play music

    Hi,
I had 4 computers stolen from my house, so I got new ones to replace them.
Now none of the new computers are 'Authorized' to play music. Since I can't 'deauthorize' the old ones, what do I do? Can I never use iTunes Music Store Again?

For more information about Authorization and Deauthorization in the iTMS you may want to look at Knowledge Base Document #93014 About Music Store Authorization and Deauthorization.

  • How can play songs when I keep getting asked to authorize a computer which is already authroised?

I am using iTunes on my PC and it is an authorized computer, as is my husbands iPhone.
lately, I have been purchasing songs but some of them (not all) are prompting me to authorized my computer to play.  I put my password in etc and it says my computer is already authorized but it still wont let me play.
The songs seem to download perfectly on my husbands iPhone.
Subsequently, I have paid for songs I cannot listen to!
I have downloaded the updated software for itunes but that does not seem to have made any difference.
    Any advice and help appreciated.
    Thanks

lately, I have been purchasing songs but some of them (not all) are prompting me to authorized my computer to play.
That suggests the tracks are damaged.
If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.

  • How do i activate my computer to play purchased songs?

I have read the "activate" instructions and activated purchased music, but itunes keeps askiing me to activate when I try to play a song that I purchased on another computer.
I transfered my music from a PC to my new Mac using my iPod as a disk. I am updating my iPod on the Mac. iTunes says that songs purchased at the Music Store cannot be put on the iPod because I have not authorized my new Mac. I then click on the song, as though to play it, and a screen pops up to allow me to enter my apple ID and password. I enter my current ID, which is different than the email address I used to purchase the music (an ID that seems to no longer exist), and my current password. iTunes tells me that I have now authorized the computer to play the given song. However, when I click on that same song, I am told to authorize again.
What is happening? How can I fix this so I can play purchased songs on my new computer?
    Thanks!
    Nicole

Nicole, Welcome to the discussion area!
I don't know how you ended up here, but your question has absolutely nothing to do with the AirPort Extreme or wireless networking. Instead you should post your question in the iTunes discussion area.
