Authorizing account on iTunes

I've apparently reached my limit for authorized computers for my account. Our old home computer crashed and we reformatted it - the one that crashed was authorized and I had no way to deauthorize it. I've authorized my laptop and my husband's laptop as well. At my work, we're allowed to use iTunes so I had authorized that computer when I first started - so it counted as my 4th. They switched out my work computer and copied all of my info over, so I didn't lose anything, but now that I've authorized my new work computer I'm at my maximum of 5 computers. Is there any way to increase the number of authorizations allowed or to somehow get the computers that are no longer in use deauthorized?

To deauthorize all computers associated with your account:
If you find you have reached 5 authorizations, you can reset your authorization count by clicking Deauthorize All in the Account Information screen.
1. Click iTunes Store in the menu on the left side of iTunes.
2. If you're not signed in to the store, click the Account button, then enter your account name and password.
3. Click the Account button again (your ID appears on the button), enter your password, and then click View Account.
4. In the Account Information window, click Deauthorize All.
Note: You may only use this feature once per year. The Deauthorize All button will not appear if you have fewer than 5 authorized computers, or if you have used this option within the last 12 months.

  • Is AppleTV an authorized account in iTunes?

Supposedly, only five computers can be authorized with iTunes for any purchased content. Does that include AppleTVs? If I have 3 computers and 3 AppleTVs, will they all be able to play purchased movies?
Failing that, is it possible to register the AppleTVs for movies only and the computers for music only? (I think the answer to that one is no.)
    Thanks,
    Steve

Steve, no the Apple TV does not fill an authorized computer slot. It simply extends the authorization of your synced computer.

  • I have 5 devices authorized to my itunes account. 2 of them crashed but I am unable to authorize my new pc. From what I can see it looks like I may have to "deauthorize all" and then re authorize my current devices? Please help!

I have 5 devices authorized to my itunes account. 2 of them crashed long ago.  Now that I have a new pc, I am unable to authorize it.  I think from what I've read that I should "deauthorize all" and then go back and authorize my current 3 devices.  Is this correct?  I have tons of music and need to make sure I won't lose anything.  I would sure appreciate the help!  Thanks!!!

    No that is not correct.
Devices do not count toward the 5.  Authorization is only for computers, not iphone/ipod/ipad/Apple tv.
You do not authorize or deauthorize devices at all.
If you have reached the limit of 5 authorized COMPUTERS, then deauthorize all and the authorize the active COMPUTERS.

  • How can I determine what computers are authorized on my iTunes account?

How can I determine what computers have been authorized on my iTunes account?  I've reached my limit and now I'd like to deauthorize one computer.
    Thanks,
    Jerry

    There is no list.
You can only deauthorize a single computer from that computer.
If you do not have access to the computers, then you would have to deauthorize all.

  • HT1420 how do I find out what computers are authorized on my itunes account?

How do I find out what computers are authorized on my itunes account? I want to add my MBP to my itunes account but I can't because I already have 5 computers authorized BUT I can't remember what computers I had authorized.  I'm assuming iPhones count as computers in this instance.
    Thanks

I'm not aware that you can see a list anywhere - and no, iPhones (nor iPads or iPods) count, only computers do (but a computer could count more than once e.g. if you've updated or reinstalled the OS without first deauthorising it).
If you've reached the 5 computer limit then you can log into your account and 'deauthorise all' (which you can do once every 12 months) and you can then authorise/reauthorise the computers that you still have and need : authorising and deauthorising.

  • HT1373 I have a MacBook Pro and newer PC. Both are authorized for my iTunes account. How do I copy or download all my library to the PC? Purchased through iTunes and loaded into my iTunes library from CDs I purchased?

I have a MBP and a newer PC .... Both are authorized for my iTunes acount and have current versions of iTunes. How do I copy all of my iTunes library (purchased and uploaded from CDs I purchased) onto the hard drives?

The best way is to copy the iTunes library from your Mac to the PC, so you will move everything, not only your songs. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1751 (You have to do the "Restoring your iTunes Library backup" step on the PC)

  • Authorizing Account(s)

    Hi..
I accidentaly changed my short user name.. and i dont know that after that my acount will wipe and create another one.. So it happened but now i have a problem with authorizing my accounts in iTunes store and it's a pretty big problem for me...
So problem looks like this when i try auhorize my account it ask me for password and after i type password in it tell me this:
"There was an error storing your authorization information on this computer."
"The required directory was not found or has a persmissions error. Correct this permissions problem and try again, or deauthorize this computer if the permission cannot be changed."
Well, i looked for the answer to sole this problem and i was unsuccesful.. Please help me solve it..
    Thanks...
P.S. If i try deauthorize computer it will tell me same thing i looked how many computers are authorized and its only 2 so i can't deauthorize all and try it again..

Several people seem to be experiencing this. It seems to be linked to a recent iTunes update. I posted the following on a similar post:
Good luck with this one. I am experiencing the same issue, and nearly all of the songs in my iTunes are purchased, so it really stinks (can't play any of them)! I've tried every laymen trick to fix this, but with no luck: reinstalling/uninstalling iTunes, cleaning/repairing registry, repairing iTunes, creating a new Apple ID, deauthorizing/authorizing...etc, etc, etc.
I should not have upgraded to the new version. What a joke.
My iPod Touch is completely usesless right now. I carried it everywhere, now, it is a worthless paper weight. Hundreds of songs gone to waste...

  • Playing songs downloaded on an authorized account from different comp?

I have a Powerbook G4 with all my Itunes songs on it but recently purchased an IMac for home. Is there a way that I can purchase songs on my new computer (which has already been made an authorized account) or old computer and then play them on the other? And, also burn them off of the opposite computer that it was downloaded on? I hope that doesn't sound too confusing. I can share the files however, my laptop has to be turned on in order for the IMac to find the files.... I can't seem to find any helpful info on this anywhere! And it's too much of a pain in the arse to burn all my old itunes and transfer them over.

I am assuming both computers are authorised to the same iTunes account? If so, then there is no problem at all - simply copy the tracks you want to share (if not networking the 2 computers) onto a USB memory stick and shuttle between the two machines.
This also applies to burning, playing, copying to iPod, etc etc.
And you can purchase / download from your iTunes account on EITHER machine (not both - just use the memory stick to carry them across if needed).

  • How do i get rid of authorized accounts?

I have an iMac and a Vista PC. I noticed that there are 4 machines authorized to my iTunes account. This is probably due to various PC upgrades and reinstallations etc. How do I get rid of these old authorized machines from my account?

De-authorizing Computers (contributed by user John Galt)
You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
      1. Open iTunes on a computer
      2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
      3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
      4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
      5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.
For more information on authorization and de-authorization: iTunes Store- About authorization and deauthorization.

Not going to happen the way you want it to.
When you add a gift card balance to the Apple ID, it's available for the Apple ID.
Probably best to create unique Apple ID's for each... this will also make things easier in the future as purchases are eternally tied to the Apple ID they were purchased with.
