Authorizing Adobe Digital Editions

Just bought new laptop. Downloaded Adobe Digital Editions. Tried to authorize. Received error message that same Adobe ID cannot be used on diff computer.
Not had this issue before since used ADE on both desktop and old laptop. Only have the one eMail address to use as Adobe ID.

              The one thing with Adobe Digital Edition is, it is for limited devices.
              When you tried to authorize your device with your adobe id of digital edition, it would have not worked.
              Not to worry, you can just through the de-authorize and re-authorize steps to keep your email address working for the device.
              In Adobe Digital Edition (ADE), if you press Ctrl+Shift+D (Windows) or Cmd+Shift+D (Mac) will remove the activation on your computer, and allow you to reactivate with a different ID or the same ID when you launch ADE again.
              Press "Ctrl+Shift+E", this will bring up the "Device Deactivation" dialog.
              Select your Reader and deactivate it.
              Unplug and replug your Reader
              The Device Authorization dialog should show up, and you can authorize again with your Adobe ID.
               In case if the above steps do not work, you can surely approach Adobe trained agents on adobe.com Monday to Friday on working hours and you will come out with smiling face.

De-authorizing Adobe Digital Editions

I know the command+shift+D trick and this works on my Intel based Mac, but not on the software version for my old PowerBook G4. I know it's the most updated version of the software for non-Intel based Macs because I uninstalled and reinstalled it in an attempt to reset the authorization. This didn't work.

There are a lot of users on this forum currently with this exact same problem, some who've even left screenshots of the issue. Definitely is a problem. I've found that for me, the best thing to do was to just manually deactivate using the steps to remove the info from the registry. I linked to the article above, but in case the article moves, here are the steps.

Previewing epub in adobe digital editions, it says "author unknown"

I filled in all the metadata in InDesign (CS5.5), exported to epub, opened to preview in Adobe Digital Editions. All looks good, except it says "author unknown." Does anyone know about this? How to get "author name" to show up?

Thanks, Steve. Since I'd naively applied styles after having created the indd book, I'd had to apply styles to each doc. in the epub files, so now I've put the metadata into each of those files, and lo and behold, now the author name shows up in ADE. Much thanks for the tip.

I have several books listed as Author: Unknown in my Adobe Digital Editions. After removing these titles from Digital Edition's library, I have added the authors names to a file with these books, and then added them into Digital Editions, but it still shows Author: Unknown.

I suspect you need to change the author somewhere in the metadata.
Are these DRM books or non-DRM?
If they are DRM, it may be difficult to change.
If they are non-DRM, try using the free Calibre ( http://calibre-ebook.com/ ) instead of ADE;
it has more editing features and is generally a better written program.

Since Re-activation as suggested by the link above is not working for you, Can you please confirm the following:
The OperatorURL is reachable. ( you can find the operatorURL from the acsm file by opening it in notepad,etc)
And Book is still available on the book-store for purchase.
(If any of first two are not available, you might have to talk to distributor for next action item to get the book. Since you will have record of purchasing the book, (in my opinion) they should provide you the new token for downloading the book)
And please confirm this that you used the same userID for downloading that you used when you first fulfilled/downloaded the book.
(If it is the case, then you have to use the correct userID)

Authorizing a Kobo e-reader for Adobe Digital Editions

I am having trouble authorizing my Kobo e-reader for Adobe Digital Editions. As a result, I am unable to drag and drop epub files from my computer to my Kobo device. Stop using the account.
You need do nothing more.
You will need to authorize your computer for both accounts as you have purchased from both accounts.

Trouble Authorizing Computer with Adobe Digital Editions

I'm unable to authorize my computer with Adobe Digital Editions. It just gets 'stuck' on the authorizing computer page, it tells me to wait whilst the green bar moves backwards and forwards for hours. I've tried reinstalling the software but it didn't help.
I searched for help and there was mention of reducing my security settings, which would these be? I'm using Windows 7, I've tried switching off all firewalls and I'm using the administrator account.
I'm not very tech savy so any advise in simple terms would be appreciated! Many thanks

I have the same problem. I am also running Windows 7, however, within VirtualBox. I hope this makes no difference.
I switched off firewall and reduced security settings to the lowest level. I installed and afterwards started the software having admin rights.
The problem occurs with ADE 2, 3 and 4.
The authorizations does not have an end. The green bar is moving for hours with the message "authorization running".
Can anyone help??

In order to fix the problem you may follow steps as given below.
Solution 1) 1) Open Digital Editions.
                    2) Connect the Reader
                    5) There you will find a new drive created similar to C or D drive under "My computer".
                    6) Open the Readers Drive and you will find a folder with name "adobe.digital.editions".
                    7) Delete this folder and plug off and re plug in the Reader.
                    8) Authorize Reader from the same Adobe ID which you used to Authorize Adobe Digital Editions.
..                  9) Now try to transfer books to your Reader
Solution 2) Modify the manifest.xml file located in C:\Usres\Username\My Documents\My Digital Editions:
1) Quit Digital Editions
2) Make a backup copy of the manifest.xml (call it something like manifest.good)
3) Open manifest.xml in notepad
4) It will appears as one big long line of xml, and you are looking for a tag called start at the begginning of this
    and select until you the end of the tag that looks called </de:deviceID>
5) If you have attached more than one Reader there may be multiple of these. Delete all of them to make sure.
6) Save the file (manifest.xml) and quit out of notepad
7) Ensure you have the Reader plugged in
8) Launch Digital Editions
9) The Device Setup Assitant should come up.
a) Do NOT click on the "Don't ask again for this device" checkbox.
b) Do click on the "Authorize Device" button.

Problems with authorizing on Adobe Digital Edition

I can't get Adobe Digital Edition to Authorize on my new computer so that I can download books from Kobo Store to my Sony ereader. Each time I try it comes up with and error message.

I have an Adobe ID and I can use it to log on my account online, but I have been trying to authorize my Adobe Digital editions with that ID and cannot do so. I downloaded this Adobe Digital Editions software from online library.

For this problem, you need to deauthorize and authorize ADE again.
Launch ADE
Help -> Erase authorization.
ADE will be deauhorized.
Now again AUTHORIZE ADE
Help-> authorize computer.
Error will be fixed !!

Adobe Digital Editions won't prompt to authorize e-reader.

I want to authorize my new Nook WIFI (and my WIFI is down). I downloaded and installed Adobe Digital Editions, created an Adobe ID and authorized my computer. I have downloaded books to my computer. With ADE open, I plugged in my Nook. ADE detects it but DOES NOT ask to activate. I pressed Ctrl +shift+E. Unplugged the nook and replugged it. Under J drive I opened the Nook drive and deleted the file entitled adobe.digital.editions. I closed it, plugged off, plugged in the nook. (As customer service instructed) It still does not prompt to authorize. I have dragged books to the Nook in ADE. I can see the book titles on my reader but when I try to open it: User not activated. Can anyone help me?
