Authorizing and Deauthorizing Computer

hi,
i just purchased a new laptop and went to transfer some files from itunes and it stated that i have 5 computers authorized and i must deauthorize a computer to be able to authorize this one. well one computer crashed is no longer in our house and when i went into itunes on the other computers they all say this computer is not authorized to authorize play a song that you purchased. there are no songs on the other computers so therefore i have no computers to deauthorize and cannot authorize the new computer.

you need to *deauthorize all* computers (note: this option is available once a year only), then reauhorize those you use/have access to. click here for more information.

  • Problems authorizing and deauthorizing computer?

I cannot view all the computers that I have authorized. When accessing my account it indicates that I have one computer authorized. I attempt to transfer a book onto my ipod, it asks for my ID which I provide, then it indicates that I have 5 computers and must deauthorize one before I can proceed.

try deauthorizing all computers in ur 'view account' section under 'store' in ur menu bar. then reauthorize the computer u r on and see if it will let u after that.

  • Authorized and Deauthorized

I just installed iTunes on my work computer, cause I just can't work without my music. When I installed and try to play my music, iTunes states that I have 5 Authorized computers and that I need to deauthorized a computer to do this. I don't have that many computers. I have one here at work and one at home. Now the one at home is my hobby computer I had that computer crash on me so many times that it wasn't possible to recover the information and deauthorized the computer. Could this be the problem?

Yes. Each time you reformat a computer, change the hard drive, reinstall the operating system, reinstall iTunes, etc. if you didn't de-authorize it first, the authorization is still tied to that installation. iTunes has no way to know a hard drive crashed, etc.
You should see an option to de-authorize ALL five accounts. Use that (you can only do it once per year) and then reauthorize the two computers you use.
    Cheers,
    Patrick

  • Authorizing and deauthorizing help

My Powerbook needed service, and when I got it back purchased iTunes were no longer authorized for this computer. However, my five computer authorization quota are used up. One of those authorizations is this computer in its old incarnation, before it was repaired; that computer no longer exists.
So i cannot go in with this computer and deauthorize it, because this is the very computer I want to authorize. If I use music store, it only gives me the option of deauthorizing all five. So how do I deauthorize the phantom computer this computer used to be so I can authorize this computer in its post-repair identity?
    Thanks.

Your only option at this point is to deauthorize all five computers and then authorize each of the computers again. This "mass deauthorization" can only be done once every 12 months, so if you get a computer serviced again, it's always safest to deauthorize it first, in case the hard drive is formatted or parts are changed, as these types of changes will cause the situation you describe - one computer using multiple authorizations.

  • Authorizing and deauthorizing on computers

I recently had three different computers break in the last several months and had them all authorized on my itunes account. I have had my itunes accout for 5 or 6 years now and have had more than the normal 5 you can have, so I deauthorized them all earlier this year. Now with my three computers going to crap I just got a new one and had to authorize my gfs computer to get my new one authorized. Is there a way in which apple/itunes will let me deauthorize the 5 again? And also if you deauthorize a computer can you reauthorize it to upload purchases? I appreciate all the feedback and for your time to help

Is there a way in which apple/itunes will let me deauthorize the 5 again?
And also if you deauthorize a computer can you reauthorize it to upload purchases?
Yes. If you or the iTunes Store staff used the Deauthorize All command for your account and you haven't synced anything from that computer to an Apple TV, leave it as is. Otherwise, it needs to be reauthorized individually.

  • Authorizing and Deauthorizing for apps?? (Not music.. there seems to be a difference- I've already de and reauthorized for music)

I recently got a new macbook Pro and am having trouble syncing my apps. My last computer has been reset.
I have already deauthorized my 5 computers going to account info and selecing that... This seems to only apply to music. I still get a message when trying to sync apps that the apps that the computer is not authorize for many of my apps and then get the error telling me I "cannot authorize more than 5 computers". I am not going to be able to do this and it looks like what works for the music in this case (deauthorizing all 5) does not apply to apps.
    Now what???
These are not all cheap apps.. some are $10 so there is no way I am buying them again. This is kind of rediculous.
    Thanks for any help!!
    Jim
This is with OS 10.7 and iPhone software 4.3.5

I emailed with support and this is basically the deal. My iPhone also has my "me" account on it... [email protected]
So some of the apps purchased from the phone went with that account that I really didn't know existed. To fix it I had to also authorize this iTunes with my me.com account (Store->Authorize This Computer) and it all worked out and is now syncing those apps back to my iPhone.
I got that email from mac support at the same as the last message and like you said, when right-clicking the app and selecting "Get Info" it showed the me.com account. So this was a good lesson for a few things. Thanks for the help.

  • Authorizing and deauthorizing

question: we purchased an ipod shuffle for our daughter while she was home on her college winter break. it was frustrating to set it up to say the least, some of that is our issue as we are not very tech-y people. she has a windows laptop, we have a powerbook laptop.
somewhere in the process of setting her up, and i still am confused as to how this occurred, she was prompted with my .mac login, it seemed like for us to help her set up her ipod and get her set up with itunes so she could use her itunes gift card that we gave her, that i had to login. when we tried not doing that, we are not successful with setting her up, i have no idea how it even prompted us for that since her laptop is not related to mine. so i logged in since that seemed to be our only option.
now it turns out that her computer is authorized to play our songs! i find that so confusing because we did not physically transfer our itunes library to her laptop.
in any event, i want to deauthorize her laptop but she is not here as she is back at school. (i don't mind her having access to our songs, but i mind if her college buddies take over and use our songs without her knowledge or ours). so how do i accomplish this?
the apple support webpage that explains how to deauthorize a computer is not explicit in how to select a "specific" computer to deauth. when i click the link "deauthorize computer", it only gives two options, to deauth a computer for music store account or deauth computer for audible account (what is that, by the way?). i am afraid to click "deauthorize for music store account" fearing that then i would not have access to the tunes on my laptop which is our only computer.
anyone out there have any thoughts as to how we can resolve our dilemma? thanks!

hmmm...the reason i thought she would have to login is because somehow, as we were helping her set up her shuffle and itunes it prompted for my .mac. so i just figured that was how she had access to my tunes was on my .mac, therefore i figured she would need to login. so how did my tunes actually get on her laptop? i know she didn't do it because she knows even less than i do about computers and that is not saying alot. thanks again.

  • Authorizing and Deauthorizing my iTunes

Hi, for what I understand, I can only use my purchased songs and videos in 5 computers, if I want to use them in another computer then I have to deauthorize one of those computers. This I understand.
This is what happened, my computer screwed up, I had to format and restore everything, luckily I had a backup of all my library. So I just restored that. When I tried to play the one of the songs it told me I needed to authorize this computer. This is weird because it is the same machine but because I formated and reinstalled windows, does it now think it is a different machine?
If so, if I authorize this machine again to play those songs, will it count as if I had 2 machines using my songs? therefore only have 3 machines in which I can share this music with?
This ***** because I didnt know I had to deauthorize the machine, if I didn't deauthorize the machine before I formated it, does this mean I will never get that authorization back?
Also what is weird is that when I authorized again, it told me I had 1 machine using music and could share to 4 other machines, so that sounds good but it bugs me to know that maybe apple/itunes thinks I am sharing my music with 2 machines when really it is the same machine only before and after a full format. Since the other machine is before I formated, I can never go back and deauthorize it...
So whats going on here? do I lose that machine forever?

If your account info shows 1 machine, then the reformat didn't "take" an authorization.
And anyway, it would have been pretty easy to get back - just deauthorize twice on the same PC.
And there is a deal where if you have used all 5, once per year you can deauthorize all.

    Hello Lakesidetom,
It sounds as though you are experiencing an issue with an Apple ID and authorizations. Based on your post, it sounds like you are familiar with the authorizing and deauthorizing process. The Apple ID in question (your wife's email) may be originating from the iPhone you are attempting to update. Is it possible that your wife created an Apple ID or iCloud account which is signed in on that iPhone? Below, I have included links to some resources that may help you determine if your wife has created an Apple ID:

  • Itunes is telling me my computer is not authorized and not accepting apple ID

Recently, I've had problems with itunes popping up a message saying that the song I am trying to play (on my mac) is not accessible because this computer is not authorized.  Then, the apple id that pops up has a misspelling in it and entering the correct password and correction to the misspelling, it still does not work.  Then, I tried deauthorizing the entire computer and reauthorizing it.  Says it is authorized, however, still no access to that song.  Oddly, the help menu that pops up tells you about deauthorizing/authorizing and such, but if you click on any other area of the help menu it is "not currently available".  Makes me suspicious that I have some malware thing.  Paranoid?  Can anyone help?

Sorry, I don't have a response. I just wanted to say that I have the exact same problem. It started about a week ago and a number of songs that I've purchased have been deleted from my ipod when I sync.
    It's very frustrating.

  • My iTunes said that my computer no longer was authorized and I had to renew it, what happened?

Idk what happened to my pc, but it said that i was no longer authorized and I to reauthorize it, so now i have 4 pc's that are authorized how can i fix this it just happened after i updated by BIOS, but other than that i have no other way of removing all accounts for authorized my pc, so what do i do now that i unauthorized all my pc a a few months ago and now i have to wait a year? can someone assist me?

Updating your BIOS probably caused iTunes to conclude you are using a completely different computer. This would occur if you were to replace your motherboard, for example.
It is best to do nothing at all about this until you reach the maximum number of authorized computers, since you can only "deauthorize all" once per twelve calendar months.
Here is the procedure. In your case you should consider the second procedure first.
For computers: You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. Otherwise you can "deauthorize all" from your iTunes account.
    Open iTunes on a computer
From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
Under "Computer Authorizations" select "Deauthorize All".
Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year. After you "deauthorize all" your previously authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
It is also possible to have mistakenly authorized a computer more than once. To fix that:
    Open iTunes.
From the Store menu, choose "Deauthorize This Computer…"
Enter your account name and password.
Click OK. A message appears reading "This computer has been successfully deauthorized."
    Click OK.
Repeat steps 2 through 5 above. If you see the same message reading: "This computer has been successfully deauthorized," then your computer was using multiple authorizations.
Repeat steps 2 through 5 above until you see a message reading "This computer was not authorized. To authorize this computer, play a song or video you have purchased using this account."

  • Authorizing/Deauthorizing Computer

I have recently gotten a few DVDs with Digital Copies of movies to download. I downlaod them and have them on my iTunes. Everytime I open and want to watch them I have to authorize my computer. The computer I have is already authorized, so it should not be having this issue. Also, I can only verify that it is authorized if I am connected to the internet, so if I am travelling I cannot watch any of these movies. iTunes has been frustrating me with a number of issues and this is just one. See my other threads for my other issues, PLEASE HELP!!!

Thanks, there is a link on that page to instructions on deauthorizing a computer several times until a message displays saying the computer was -not- authorized and then to re-authorize it. Of course it also says you should do this before doing a repair, hopefully I'll remember this the next time.
    Thanks again,
    John

Are you using the same ID for homesharing on all devices.
By the way shared libraries don't show up under either 'Music' or 'Libraries'.
