Authorizing Macbook in iTunes

Hey.
I received a Macbook for a Congratulations present, and left the country for 6 months to work and travel. In my haste of packing, I do not remember ever registering my Macbook in any way, shape or form. I had only recently been introduced to Macs via a Christmas present 4 more prior.
When I go to sync songs from either of my iPods, I cannot add any songs (that have been paid for on iTunes, or added to my library from my personal CDs) to my Macbook. However, all the songs I bought (while using my iMac), work on both of my iPods and, of course, my iMac.
When I go to sync music or share music between my iMac and Macbook (using home sharing), an alert always comes up saying the Macbook is not authorized. Attempts to authorize it do not work. The prompt says "The required file was not found or has a permissions error. Correct this permissions problem and try again, or deauthorize this computer if the permissions cannot be changed." when I try to grant the Macbook authorizaton.
Can you help me out?

I have just today gotten my new Macbook Pro in the mail after my old one crashed and while setting up my iTunes, I realized that I have used up all my authorized computers on my account. I deactivated all of them and now when I try to authorize this computer, this -45054 error comes up. The best way is to copy the iTunes library from your Mac to the PC, so you will move everything, not only your songs. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1751 (You have to do the "Restoring your iTunes Library backup" step on the PC)

My macbook has also turned on home sharing, but the home computer does not show up. How exactly does home sharing work? Must you be in the same area to be able to use this feature or connected to the same network?

Trouble authorizing computer in iTunes and transferring apps from iPod

Every time I select "Transfer Purchases from iPod" from the File menu, it tells me I can't because my MacBook isn't authorized for the iTunes store. I only have one other computer authorized - my desktop - and I've deauthorized and reauthorized the laptop several times, supposedly successfully, but I still can't transfer my apps from the iPod.
I know that I can re-download apps to the laptop that I've previously purchased on the desktop or the iPod, but not only would that take a fair bit of time that I'd rather not spend (I have many pages of apps), but the couple times that I've tried it, I don't get the dialog box (offering to let me re-download for free the same apps that I've already bought) that it shows in the thread I found about the procedure.
So what do I do now?

Events created by iphone do not sync to my macbook through itunes

I have a problem with my IPhone and my MacBook. I use to work with my IPhone (photos, calendar, mail...) and then when I go home I sync it to my MacBook through ITunes as always. But two weeks ago I realize that the events I was creating in ICal by my IPhone doesn't pass to ICal in my MacBook.
I tried to fix it using iSync as someone told me, but it doesn't work.
Can someone tell me if he had the same problem and how to solve it?

The calendar that you are adding events to must be in the "iCloud" section of the Calendars app, not in something like "On my iPhone". Could this be the problem?
Otherwise be sure both mac and device are connected to the same icloud account. Check Settings>icloud and System Preferences>icloud, and be sure both those pages have Calendars turned on.
If these don't solve things, then to test whether it's the iphone or mac that's the problem, using the mac's safari, log into icloud.com with your account ID and look at the Calendars page. If the events are not listed, then the iphone is not set correctly. If they are there, then the mac is not set correctly.

Means they are going to mess up your iPhoto Library pictures database so it's unreadable by older versions of iPhoto on older OS X operating systems.
You have the choice to right click on the iPhoto Lbrary and inside is a folder called Origianls, use the Finder to Duplicate this folder, then move the OriginalsCopy out of the iPhoto Library folder and save it elsewhere.
I dont' think Apple will every intentionally touch the originals, however it's possible they could.

Since I dowloaded and installed iTunes' version 11.0.5 on my MacBook, it is behaving strangely:
- displaying an alert message asing if I want to delete tracks each time I press to play one
- not playing tracks in the order they're displayed in my library, sometimes jumping from one playlist to the other
I did check my settings and preferences for playing tracks and tried changing some parameters in them, however it still doesn't help.
It seems to be a bug in iTunes' version 11.0.5 — if you had a similar experience and found how to solve this discomfort, thanks for contacting me.

With windows you would go to : File/Add To Library, and iTunes would add all your selected files to your music library BUT WOULD NOT COPY THEM TO YOUR HARD DRIVE. In other words, if the external hard drive was connected, you could listen, drag/drop, and edit the files. When I tried the same thing with my new MacBook... it actually started coping the files to my MacBook harddrive. I don't want that, it's millions and millions of mp3's that I don't want to keep on my computer, only my external hard drive. Can anyone help? I'm sure it's something easy, I'm just so new to the Mac world. Being an iPhone owner for many many years I'm picking up things fast, but this is getting the best of me! Help !

Best way to setup 2 iPods, 1 MacBook, 1 iTunes store account?

I just got a iPod Nano (2nd Gen) for Christmas. My wife has a MacBook and a 30GB iPod Video as well as the iTunes account. We've been sharing her iPod but now she says I've got to get my stuff off since I've got my own. We have alot of CDs loaded into iTunes that we both like and also some stuff that only one of us likes (CDs, podcast, etc.). I want to just use her MacBook and iTunes Store account to manage my iPod (until we can afford to me a mac) but I'm not sure how's the best way to do that. I have my own user setup on the Macbook but don't have any access to the music at this time.
Suggestions?

There are actually a few methods for using more than one iPod on a single computer: How To Use Multiple iPods with One Computer
Just to summarise what's in the link above which is a little out of date:
Method one is to have individual Mac or Windows user accounts which by definition would give you completely separate iTunes Music folders and libraries.
Method two is to set your preferences so that any or all of iPods get updated with only certain playlists within one library:
Loading songs onto iPod automatically - Mac

Another option when using a single library is to set any or all of the iPods to manual update: Managing content manually on iPod
Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for each iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used by the other iPod. I have 5 devices authorized to my itunes account. 2 of them crashed but I am unable to authorize my new pc. From what I can see it looks like I may have to "deauthorize all" and then re authorize my current devices? Please help!

No that is not correct.
Devices do not count toward the 5. Authorization is only for computers, not iphone/ipod/ipad/Apple tv.
You do not authorize or deauthorize devices at all.
If you have reached the limit of 5 authorized COMPUTERS, then deauthorize all and the authorize the active COMPUTERS.

My Apple TV no longer sees my MacBook Pro / Itunes Library. Apple TV tells me to turn on Home Sharing on my computer, which I have.
Also:
1. All other ATV connections are working (Netflix, movie previews, etc.)
2. I have all the latest updates for ATV and Itunes
3. Home sharing is turned on for both ATV and MacBook Pro Itunes
4. I am correctly logged in to my Itunes account on both ATV, and Itunes on the MacBook Pro
5. Everything had been working perfectly for approximately one year until yesterday.
I'm not sure what to try next.

Thanks. I just closed Itunes, came back today to check it out and the pull down menu with "Computer" or "Apple TV" was inexplicably back again and everything now works. I had tried restarting Itunes, the modem, and router before with no luck. Anyway, it's magically working.

Of course iTunes is looking for the music on the external HDD. Enabling iTunes Match does not magically change the location of the iTunes library to the cloud.
To play the music either plug the external HDD back into your computer or create a new, empty library to use for streaming the iTM content. The latter can be accomplished by holding down the Option key when launching iTunes, choosing "create library" then enabling iTunes Match on the new library. DO NOT have iTunes scan your HDD for music.
